Questioning whether seasonal advance of intense tropical cyclones since the 1980s truly exists

Shan et al. (2023) recently reported significant seasonal advances of intense tropical cyclones (TCs) in both the Northern Hemisphere (NH) and Southern Hemisphere (SH) since the 1980s, and emphasized the data insensitivity of this conclusion, based on the Advanced Dvorak Technique-Hurricane Satellite (ADT-HURSAT) and the International Best Track Archive for Climate Stewardship (IBTrACS) datasets. However, this conclusion contradicts our recent findings. Following the procedures outlined in Shan et al., our analysis reveals that the seasonal advancing trend of intense TCs does not pass the significance test in the SH. Meanwhile, for the NH, the trend is statistically significant only when using the ADT-HURSAT, but not when using the IBTrACS. These discrepancies may be due to flaws in the calculations performed by Shan et al. The above findings raise doubts about the reproducibility and validity of Shan et al.'s conclusions regarding the global seasonal advance of intense TCs. We argue that the reported seasonal advance of intense TCs since the 1980s is inconclusive, and further investigations are needed.

Entanglement properties of random invariant quantum states

Entanglement properties of random multipartite quantum states which are invariant under global SU($d$) action are investigated. The random states live in the tensor power of an irreducible representation of SU($d$). We calculate and analyze the expectation and fluctuation of the second-order Rényi entanglement measure of the random invariant and near-invariant states in high dimension, and reveal the phenomenon of concentration of measure the random states exhibit. We show that with high probability a random SU($d$)-invariant state is close to being maximally entangled with respect to any bipartite cut as the dimension of individual system goes to infinity. We also show that this generic entanglement property of random SU(2)-invariant state is robust to arbitrarily finite disturbation.

Measurement and completely decoherence

By virtue of quantum coherence resource measure, we show that the dephasing measurement on a coherence basis can transfer the coherence contained in system into environment totally, which gives a quantification of decoherence.

Monotonicity of skew information and its applications in quantum resource theory

We give an alternative proof of skew information via operator algebra approach and show its strong monotonicity under particular quantum TPCP maps. We then formulate a family of new resource measure if the resource can be characterized by a resource destroying map and the free operation should be also modified. Our measure is easy-calculating and applicable to the coherence resource theory as well as quantum asymmetry theory. The operational interpretation needs to be further investigated.

Geometric measures of discordlike quantum correlations based on Tsallis relative entropy

In this paper we formulate a kind of new geometric measure of quantum correlations. This new measure is in terms of the quantum Tsallis relative entropy and can be viewed as a one-parameter extension quantum discordlike measure that satisfies all requirements of a good measure of quantum correlations. It is of an elegant analytic expression and contains several existing good quantum correlation measures as special cases.
