FlyAware: Inertia-Aware Aerial Manipulation via Vision-Based Estimation and Post-Grasp Adaptation

Aerial manipulators (AMs) are gaining increasing attention in automated transportation and emergency services due to their superior dexterity compared to conventional multirotor drones. However, their practical deployment is challenged by the complexity of time-varying inertial parameters, which are highly sensitive to payload variations and manipulator configurations. Inspired by human strategies for interacting with unknown objects, this letter presents a novel onboard framework for robust aerial manipulation. The proposed system integrates a vision-based pre-grasp inertia estimation module with a post-grasp adaptation mechanism, enabling real-time estimation and adaptation of inertial dynamics. For control, we develop an inertia-aware adaptive control strategy based on gain scheduling, and assess its robustness via frequency-domain system identification. Our study provides new insights into post-grasp control for AMs, and real-world experiments validate the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed framework.

NDOB-Based Control of a UAV with Delta-Arm Considering Manipulator Dynamics

Aerial Manipulators (AMs) provide a versatile platform for various applications, including 3D printing, architecture, and aerial grasping missions. However, their operational speed is often sacrificed to uphold precision. Existing control strategies for AMs often regard the manipulator as a disturbance and employ robust control methods to mitigate its influence. This research focuses on elevating the precision of the end-effector and enhancing the agility of aerial manipulator movements. We present a composite control scheme to address these challenges. Initially, a Nonlinear Disturbance Observer (NDOB) is utilized to compensate for internal coupling effects and external disturbances. Subsequently, manipulator dynamics are processed through a high pass filter to facilitate agile movements. By integrating the proposed control method into a fully autonomous delta-arm-based AM system, we substantiate the controller's efficacy through extensive real-world experiments. The outcomes illustrate that the end-effector can achieve accuracy at the millimeter level.

Whole-Body Integrated Motion Planning for Aerial Manipulators

Expressive motion planning for Aerial Manipulators (AMs) is essential for tackling complex manipulation tasks, yet achieving coupled trajectory planning adaptive to various tasks remains challenging, especially for those requiring aggressive maneuvers. In this work, we propose a novel whole-body integrated motion planning framework for quadrotor-based AMs that leverages flexible waypoint constraints to achieve versatile manipulation capabilities. These waypoint constraints enable the specification of individual position requirements for either the quadrotor or end-effector, while also accommodating higher-order velocity and orientation constraints for complex manipulation tasks. To implement our framework, we exploit spatio-temporal trajectory characteristics and formulate an optimization problem to generate feasible trajectories for both the quadrotor and manipulator while ensuring collision avoidance considering varying robot configurations, dynamic feasibility, and kinematic feasibility. Furthermore, to enhance the maneuverability for specific tasks, we employ Imitation Learning (IL) to facilitate the optimization process to avoid poor local optima. The effectiveness of our framework is validated through comprehensive simulations and real-world experiments, where we successfully demonstrate nine fundamental manipulation skills across various environments.

RoboTwin 2.0: A Scalable Data Generator and Benchmark with Strong Domain Randomization for Robust Bimanual Robotic Manipulation

Simulation-based data synthesis has emerged as a powerful paradigm for advancing real-world robotic manipulation. Yet existing datasets remain insufficient for robust bimanual manipulation due to (1) the lack of scalable task generation methods and (2) oversimplified simulation environments. We present RoboTwin 2.0, a scalable framework for automated, large-scale generation of diverse and realistic data, together with unified evaluation protocols for dual-arm manipulation. At its core is RoboTwin-OD, an object library of 731 instances across 147 categories with semantic and manipulation-relevant annotations. Building on this, we design an expert data synthesis pipeline that leverages multimodal language models (MLLMs) and simulation-in-the-loop refinement to automatically generate task-level execution code. To improve sim-to-real transfer, RoboTwin 2.0 applies structured domain randomization along five axes: clutter, lighting, background, tabletop height, and language, enhancing data diversity and policy robustness. The framework is instantiated across 50 dual-arm tasks and five robot embodiments. Empirically, it yields a 10.9% gain in code generation success rate. For downstream policy learning, a VLA model trained with synthetic data plus only 10 real demonstrations achieves a 367% relative improvement over the 10-demo baseline, while zero-shot models trained solely on synthetic data obtain a 228% gain. These results highlight the effectiveness of RoboTwin 2.0 in strengthening sim-to-real transfer and robustness to environmental variations. We release the data generator, benchmark, dataset, and code to support scalable research in robust bimanual manipulation. Aerial Grasping via Maximizing Delta-Arm Workspace Utilization

The workspace limits the operational capabilities and range of motion for the systems with robotic arms. Maximizing workspace utilization has the potential to provide more optimal solutions for aerial manipulation tasks, increasing the system's flexibility and operational efficiency. In this paper, we introduce a novel planning framework for aerial grasping that maximizes workspace utilization. We formulate an optimization problem to optimize the aerial manipulator's trajectory, incorporating task constraints to achieve efficient manipulation. To address the challenge of incorporating the delta arm's non-convex workspace into optimization constraints, we leverage a Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) to map position points to feasibility probabilities.Furthermore, we employ Reversible Residual Networks (RevNet) to approximate the complex forward kinematics of the delta arm, utilizing efficient model gradients to eliminate workspace constraints. We validate our methods in simulations and real-world experiments to demonstrate their effectiveness.

Benchmarking Generalizable Bimanual Manipulation: RoboTwin Dual-Arm Collaboration Challenge at CVPR 2025 MEIS Workshop

Embodied Artificial Intelligence (Embodied AI) is an emerging frontier in robotics, driven by the need for autonomous systems that can perceive, reason, and act in complex physical environments. While single-arm systems have shown strong task performance, collaborative dual-arm systems are essential for handling more intricate tasks involving rigid, deformable, and tactile-sensitive objects. To advance this goal, we launched the RoboTwin Dual-Arm Collaboration Challenge at the 2nd MEIS Workshop, CVPR 2025. Built on the RoboTwin Simulation platform (1.0 and 2.0) and the AgileX COBOT-Magic Robot platform, the competition consisted of three stages: Simulation Round 1, Simulation Round 2, and a final Real-World Round. Participants totally tackled 17 dual-arm manipulation tasks, covering rigid, deformable, and tactile-based scenarios. The challenge attracted 64 global teams and over 400 participants, producing top-performing solutions like SEM and AnchorDP3 and generating valuable insights into generalizable bimanual policy learning. This report outlines the competition setup, task design, evaluation methodology, key findings and future direction, aiming to support future research on robust and generalizable bimanual manipulation policies. The Challenge Webpage is available at https://robotwin-benchmark.github.io/cvpr-2025-challenge/.
