Average Sensitivity of Hierarchical $k$-Median Clustering

Hierarchical clustering is a widely used method for unsupervised learning with numerous applications. However, in the application of modern algorithms, the datasets studied are usually large and dynamic. If the hierarchical clustering is sensitive to small perturbations of the dataset, the usability of the algorithm will be greatly reduced. In this paper, we focus on the hierarchical $k$ -median clustering problem, which bridges hierarchical and centroid-based clustering while offering theoretical appeal, practical utility, and improved interpretability. We analyze the average sensitivity of algorithms for this problem by measuring the expected change in the output when a random data point is deleted. We propose an efficient algorithm for hierarchical $k$-median clustering and theoretically prove its low average sensitivity and high clustering quality. Additionally, we show that single linkage clustering and a deterministic variant of the CLNSS algorithm exhibit high average sensitivity, making them less stable. Finally, we validate the robustness and effectiveness of our algorithm through experiments.

Cluster algebras and quantum cohomology rings: A-type

We construct a cluster algebra structure within the quantum cohomology ring of a quiver variety associated with an $A$-type quiver. Specifically, let $Fl:=Fl(N_1,\ldots,N_{n+1})$ denote a partial flag variety of length $n$, and $QH_S^*(Fl)[t]:=QH_S^*(Fl)\otimes \mathbb C[t]$ be its equivariant quantum cohomology ring extended by a formal variable $t$, regarded as a $\mathbb Q$-algebra. We establish an injective $\mathbb Q$-algebra homomorphism from the $A_n$-type cluster algebra to the algebra $QH_S^*(Fl)[t]$. Furthermore, for a general quiver with potential, we propose a framework for constructing a homomorphism from the associated cluster algebra to the quantum cohomology ring of the corresponding quiver variety. The second main result addresses the conjecture of all-genus Seiberg duality for $A_n$-type quivers. For any quiver with potential mutation-equivalent to an $A_n$-type quiver, we consider the associated variety defined as the critical locus of the potential function. We prove that all-genus Gromov-Witten invariants of such a variety coincide with those of the flag variety.

Deep Learning Meets OBIA: Tasks, Challenges, Strategies, and Perspectives

Deep learning has gained significant attention in remote sensing, especially in pixel- or patch-level applications. Despite initial attempts to integrate deep learning into object-based image analysis (OBIA), its full potential remains largely unexplored. In this article, as OBIA usage becomes more widespread, we conducted a comprehensive review and expansion of its task subdomains, with or without the integration of deep learning. Furthermore, we have identified and summarized five prevailing strategies to address the challenge of deep learning's limitations in directly processing unstructured object data within OBIA, and this review also recommends some important future research directions. Our goal with these endeavors is to inspire more exploration in this fascinating yet overlooked area and facilitate the integration of deep learning into OBIA processing workflows.

A Differentially Private Clustering Algorithm for Well-Clustered Graphs

We study differentially private (DP) algorithms for recovering clusters in well-clustered graphs, which are graphs whose vertex set can be partitioned into a small number of sets, each inducing a subgraph of high inner conductance and small outer conductance. Such graphs have widespread application as a benchmark in the theoretical analysis of spectral clustering. We provide an efficient ($ε$,$δ$)-DP algorithm tailored specifically for such graphs. Our algorithm draws inspiration from the recent work of Chen et al., who developed DP algorithms for recovery of stochastic block models in cases where the graph comprises exactly two nearly-balanced clusters. Our algorithm works for well-clustered graphs with $k$ nearly-balanced clusters, and the misclassification ratio almost matches the one of the best-known non-private algorithms. We conduct experimental evaluations on datasets with known ground truth clusters to substantiate the prowess of our algorithm. We also show that any (pure) $ε$-DP algorithm would result in substantial error.

Quantization of the minimal nilpotent orbits and the quantum Hikita conjecture

We show that the specialized quantum D-module of the equivariant quantum cohomology ring of the minimal resolution of an ADE singularity is isomorphic to the D-module of graded traces on the minimal nilpotent orbit in the Lie algebra of the same type. This generalizes a recent result of Shlykov [Hikita conjecture for the minimal nilpotent orbit, to appear in Proc. AMS, https://doi.org/10.1090/proc/15281] and hence verifies in this case the quantum version of Hikita's conjecture, proposed by Kamnitzer, McBreen and Proudfoot [The quantum Hikita conjecture, Advances in Mathematics 390 (2021) 107947]. We also show analogous isomorphisms for singularities of BCFG type.

Semisimple FJRW theory of polynomials with two variables

We study the Dubrovin-Frobenius manifold in the Fan-Jarvis-Ruan-Witten theory of Landau-Ginzburg pairs $(W, \ )$, where $W$ is an invertible nondegenerate quasihomogeneous polynomial with two variables and $\ $ is the minimal admissible group of $W$. We conjecture that the Dubrovin-Frobenius manifolds from these FJRW theory are semisimple. We show the conjecture holds true for simple singularities and almost all Brieskorn-Pham polynomials. For Brieskorn-Pham polynomials, the result follows from the calculation of a quantum Euler class in the FJRW theory. As a consequence, our result shows that for the FJRW theory of these Landau-Ginzburg pairs, both a Dubrovin type conjecture and a Virasoro conjecture hold true.

Seiberg Duality conjecture for star-shaped quivers and finiteness of Gromov-Witten thoery for D-type quivers

This is the second work on Seiberg Duality. This work proves that the Seiberg duality conjecture holds for star-shaped quivers: the Gromov-Witten theories for two mutation-related varieties are equivalent. In particular, it is known that a $D$-type quiver goes back to itself after finite times quiver mutations, and we further prove that Gromov-Witten theory together with k\"ahler variables of a $D_3$-type quiver variety return to the original ones after finite times quiver mutations.

A Landau-Ginzburg mirror theorem via matrix factorizations

For an in invertible quasihomogeneous singularity $w$ we prove an all-genus mirror theorem establishing an isomorphism between two cohomological field theories. On the $B$-side it is the Saito-Givental theory given by a certain choice of a primitive form. On the $A$-side, it is the reduced matrix factorization CohFT for the dual singularity $w^T$ with the maximal diagonal symmetry group.

Virasoro constraints in quantum singularity theories

We introduce Virasoro operators for any Landau-Ginzburg pair (W, G) where W is a non-degenerate quasi-homogeneous polynomial and G is a certain group of diagonal symmetries. We propose a conjecture that the total ancestor potential of the FJRW theory of the pair (W,G) is annihilated by these Virasoro operators. We prove the conjecture in various cases, including: (1) invertible polynomials with the maximal group, (2) some two-variable polynomials with the minimal group, (3) certain Calabi-Yau polynomials with groups. We also discuss the connections among Virasoro constraints, mirror symmetry of Landau-Ginzburg models, and Landau-Ginzburg/Calabi-Yau correspondence.

Landau-Ginzburg Mirror Symmetry Conjecture

We prove the Landau-Ginzburg mirror symmetry conjecture between invertible quasi-homogeneous polynomial singularities at all genera. That is, we show that the FJRW theory (LG A-model) of such a polynomial is equivalent to the Saito-Givental theory (LG B-model) of the mirror polynomial.

Dispersionless Integrable Hierarchy via Kodaira-Spencer Gravity

We explain how dispersionless integrable hierarchy in 2d topological field theory arises from the Kodaira-Spencer gravity (BCOV theory). The infinitely many commuting Hamiltonians are given by the current observables associated to the infinite abelian symmetries of the Kodaira-Spencer gravity. We describe a BV framework of effective field theories that leads to the B-model interpretation of dispersionless integrable hierarchy.

Unfolding of Orbifold LG B-Models: A Case Study

In this note we explore the variation of Hodge structures associated to the orbifold Landau-Ginzburg B-model whose superpotential has two variables. We extend the Getzler-Gauss-Manin connection to Hochschild chains twisted by group action. As an application, we provide explicit computations for the Getzler-Gauss-Manin connection on the universal (noncommutative) unfolding of $\mathbb{Z}_2$-orbifolding of A-type singularities. The result verifies an example of deformed version of Mckay correspondence.

Blow-up formulae of high genus Gromov-Witten invariants in dimensional six

Using the degeneration formula and absolute/relative correspondence, one studied the change of Gromov-Witten invariants under blow-up for six dimensional symplectic manifolds and obtained closed blow-up formulae for high genus Gromov-Witten invariants. Our formulae also imply some relations among generalized BPS numbers introduced by Pandharipande.
