Deep Learning-Enhanced Real-Time Wi-Fi Sensing Through Single Transceiver Pair

The advancement of next-generation Wi-Fi technology heavily relies on sensing capabilities, which play a pivotal role in enabling sophisticated applications. In response to the growing demand for large-scale deployments, contemporary Wi-Fi sensing systems strive to achieve high-precision perception while maintaining minimal bandwidth consumption and antenna count requirements. Remarkably, various deep learning-driven perception technologies have demonstrated the ability to surpass conventional resolution limits. However, the theoretical underpinnings of this phenomenon have not been thoroughly investigated in existing research. We find that under hardware-constrained conditions, the performance gains of deep learning in Wi-Fi sensing primarily originate from two aspects: prior information and temporal correlation, which act as specific forms of side information that reduce the estimation error bound. We construct a deep learning-based Wi-Fi sensing system using only a single transceiver pair and design experiments to validate these gains. The system achieves an average human pose estimation error of 0.2189 m and an average localization error of 0.6124 m, while operating in real time at 42 fps on commodity hardware.

MUSA-PINN: Multi-scale Weak-form Physics-Informed Neural Networks for Fluid Flow in Complex Geometries

While Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINNs) offer a mesh-free approach to solving fluid-flow PDEs, standard point-wise residual minimization suffers from convergence pathologies in topologically complex domains like Triply Periodic Minimal Surfaces (TPMS). The locality bias of point-wise constraints fails to propagate global information through tortuous channels, causing unstable gradients and conservation violations. To address this, we propose the Multi-scale Weak-form PINN (MUSA-PINN), which reformulates Navier-Stokes equation constraints as integral conservation laws over hierarchical spherical control volumes. We enforce continuity and momentum conservation via flux-balance residuals on control surfaces. Our method utilizes a three-scale subdomain strategy-comprising large volumes for long-range coupling, skeleton-aware meso-scale volumes aligned with transport pathways, and small volumes for local refinement-alongside a two-stage training schedule prioritizing continuity. Experiments on steady incompressible flow in TPMS geometries show MUSA-PINN outperforms state-of-the-art baselines, reducing relative errors by up to 93% and preserving mass conservation.

Update Strategy for Channel Knowledge Map in Complex Environments

The Channel Knowledge Map (CKM) maps position information to channel state information, leveraging environmental knowledge to reduce signaling overhead in sixth-generation networks. However, constructing a reliable CKM demands substantial data and computation, and in dynamic environments, a pre-built CKM becomes outdated, degrading performance. Frequent retraining restores accuracy but incurs significant waste, creating a fundamental trade-off between CKM efficacy and update overhead. To address this, we introduce a Map Efficacy Function (MEF) capturing both gradual aging and abrupt environmental transitions, and formulate the update scheduling problem as fractional programming. We develop two Dinkelbach-based algorithms: Delta-P guarantees global optimality, while Delta-L achieves near-optimal performance with near-linear complexity. For unpredictable environments, we derive a threshold-based policy: immediate updates are optimal when the environmental degradation rate exceeds the resource consumption acceleration; otherwise, delay is preferable. For predictable environments, long-term strategies strategically relax these myopic rules to maximize global performance. Across this regime, the policy reveals that stronger entry loss and faster decay favor immediate updates, while weaker entry loss and slower decay favor delayed updates.

Beam Squint Assisted Joint Angle-Distance Localization for Near-Field Communications

With the advent of extremely large-scale MIMO (XL-MIMO), mmWave/THz bands and ultra-wideband transmission, future 6G systems demand real-time positioning with centimeter or even millimeter level accuracy. This paper addresses the pronounced near-field beam squint problem caused by phase shifter based beamforming in wideband near-field scenarios and proposes a beam squint assisted joint angle-distance localization scheme. The key idea is to employ true-time-delay (TTD) units together with phase shifters (PS) to synthesize a controllable joint angle-distance (JAD) trajectory that establishes a unique mapping between subcarriers and spatial locations, enabling single scan acquisition of target angle and range. To implement this paradigm efficiently, we design a coarse to fine two stage estimator: a low complexity coarse stage based on subcarrier power peaks for user separation and candidate region selection, followed by a local high resolution refinement stage that applies spatial smoothing and near-field multiple signal classification (MUSIC) over multiple subcarriers and fuses the resulting spectra by geometric averaging to suppress spurious peaks. We theoretically prove the correctness and uniqueness of the MUSIC spatial spectrum peak under the proposed near-field steering model, and derive the Cramér-Rao lower bound (CRLB) for joint angle-distance estimation. Simulation results in single and multi-user scenarios validate that the proposed method achieves very high accuracy and robustness, significantly outperforming conventional two-step approaches, and is promising for practical 6G sensing and localization deployments.

DualMS: Implicit Dual-Channel Minimal Surface Optimization for Heat Exchanger Design

Heat exchangers are critical components in a wide range of engineering applications, from energy systems to chemical processing, where efficient thermal management is essential. The design objectives for heat exchangers include maximizing the heat exchange rate while minimizing the pressure drop, requiring both a large interface area and a smooth internal structure. State-of-the-art designs, such as triply periodic minimal surfaces (TPMS), have proven effective in optimizing heat exchange efficiency. However, TPMS designs are constrained by predefined mathematical equations, limiting their adaptability to freeform boundary shapes. Additionally, TPMS structures do not inherently control flow directions, which can lead to flow stagnation and undesirable pressure drops. This paper presents DualMS, a novel computational framework for optimizing dual-channel minimal surfaces specifically for heat exchanger designs in freeform shapes. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first attempt to directly optimize minimal surfaces for two-fluid heat exchangers, rather than relying on TPMS. Our approach formulates the heat exchange maximization problem as a constrained connected maximum cut problem on a graph, with flow constraints guiding the optimization process. To address undesirable pressure drops, we model the minimal surface as a classification boundary separating the two fluids, incorporating an additional regularization term for area minimization. We employ a neural network that maps spatial points to binary flow types, enabling it to classify flow skeletons and automatically determine the surface boundary. DualMS demonstrates greater flexibility in surface topology compared to TPMS and achieves superior thermal performance, with lower pressure drops while maintaining a similar heat exchange rate under the same material cost.

Beam Training and Alignment for RIS-Assisted Millimeter Wave Systems:State of the Art and Beyond

Reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) has recently emerged as a promising paradigm for future cellular networks. Specifically, due to its capability in reshaping the propagation environment, RIS was introduced to address the blockage issue in millimeter Wave (mmWave) or even Terahertz (THz) communications. The deployment of RIS, however, complicates the system architecture and poses a significant challenge for beam training (BT)/ beam alignment (BA), a process that is required to establish a reliable link between the transmitter and the receiver. In this article, we first review several state-of-the-art beam training solutions for RIS-assisted mmWave systems and discuss their respective advantages and limitations. We also present a new multi-directional BT method, which can achieve a decent BA performance with only a small amount of training overhead. Finally, we outline several important open issues in BT for RIS-assisted mmWave systems.
