Quantum droplets in one-dimensional mixtures of quasi Bose-Einstein condensates and Tonks-Girardeau gases

While binary atomic Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) are typically prone to collapse under strong interspecies attraction, it has been shown that higher-order fluctuation corrections, known as Lee-Huang-Yang corrections, can stabilize the mixture. In this work we demonstrate an alternative stabilization mechanism based on kinetic energy. Specifically, we consider a one-dimensional mixture of a quasi-BEC and a Tonks-Girardeau(TG) gas and show that the kinetic energy of the TG component can counteract the interspecies attraction, thereby preventing collapse. This balance leads to the formation of a self-bound quantum droplet, which exhibits two distinct regimes: a low-density droplet and a high-density droplet. We argue that these regimes are smoothly connected by a crossover. Furthermore, an analysis of the derivatives of the ground-state energy and bulk modulus reveals that the transition from a miscible mixture to the droplet phase is of third order. Our findings extend the theoretical understanding of quantum droplets in low-dimensional quantum gases, and the proposed system may be experimentally accessible within current ultracold-atom platforms.

Emergent topological properties in spatially modulated sub-wavelength barrier lattices

We investigate topological phenomena in a spatially modulated Dirac-$δ$ lattice, where the scattering potential varies periodically in space. Changing the potential modulation frequency leads to Hofstadter's butterfly-like energy spectrum and enables the emergence of topological transport regimes characterized by non-trivial Chern numbers. We show how the considered modulated system is connected to the Hofstadter model via the Harper equation. By adiabatically varying spatial modulation parameters, we demonstrate controllable quantum transport and verify the topological nature of these effects through Wannier center displacement and bulk invariant calculations. We also propose an experimentally feasible realization of such a system using optically controlled three-level atoms. Our findings showcase spatially engineered Kronig-Penney-type systems as versatile platforms for investigating and exploiting different topological quantum transport regimes.

Quench dynamics in topologically non-trivial quantum many-body systems

We investigate the nonequilibrium dynamics of a groundstate fermionic many body gas subjected to a quench between parameter regimes of a topologically nontrivial Hamiltonian. By focusing on the role of the chiral edge states inherent to the system, we calculate the many body overlap and show that the characteristic monotonic decay of the orthogonality catastrophe with increasing system size is notably altered. Specifically, we demonstrate that the dynamics are governed not solely by the total particle number but rather by the number of occupied single particle edge states. This behavior is further explained through an analysis of the full work probability distribution, providing a deeper understanding of the system's dynamics.

The Lieb excitations and topological flat mode of spectral function of Tonks-Girardeau gas in Kronig-Penney potential

Lieb excitations are fundamental to the understanding of the low energy behaviour of many-body quantum gases. Here we study the spectral function of a Tonks-Girardeau gas in a finite sized Kronig-Penney potential and show that the Lieb-I and Lieb-II excitations can become gapped as a function of the barrier height. Moreover, we reveal the existence of a topological flat mode near the Fermi energy and at zero momentum and show that this is robust to perturbations in the system. Through a scaling analysis, we determine the divergent behaviour of the spectral function. Our results provide a significant reference for the observation and understanding of the gapped Lieb excitations and the topological flat mode of quantum gases in experimentally realistic subwavelength optical lattice potentials.

Continuous phase transition induced by non-Hermiticity in the quantum contact process model

Non-Hermitian quantum system recently have attracted a lots of attentions theoretically and experimentally. However, the results based on the single-particle picture may not apply to understand the property of non-Hermitian many-body system. How the property of quantum many-body system especially the phase transition will be affected by the non-hermiticity remains unclear. Here we study non-Hermitian quantum contact process (QCP) model, whose effective Hamiltonian is derived from Lindbladian master equation. We show that there is a continuous phase transition induced by the non-hermiticity in QCP. We also determine the critical exponents $β$ of order parameter, $γ$ of susceptibility and study the correlation and entanglement near phase transition. We observe that the order parameter and susceptibility display infinitely singularity even for finite size system, since non-hermiticity endow many-body system with different singular behaviour from classical phase transition. Moreover our results show that the phase transition have no counterpart in Hermitian case and belongs to completely different universality class.

Scaling of energy and power in a large quantum battery-charger model

We investigate a multi-qubit quantum battery-charger model, focusing on its potential emulation on a superconducting qubit chip. Using a large-spin representation, we first obtain the analytical form of the energy $E_B(t)$, power $P_B(t)$ and their maximum values, $E_B^{\rm max}$ and $P_B^{\rm max}$, of the battery part by means of the antiferromagnetic Holstein-Primakoff (AFM-HP) transformation within the low-energy approximation. In this case, our results show that superextensive scaling behavior of $P_B^{\rm max}$ ensues. By further combining these with the ones obtained via exact diagonalization (ED), we classify the dynamics of various physical quantities, including the entanglement between the battery and charger parts for system sizes encompassing over 10,000 qubits. Finally, by checking a diverse set of system configurations, including either a fixed battery size with growing number of charger qubits, or when both parts simultaneously grow, we classify the system size scalings of $E_B^{\rm max}$ and $P_B^{\rm max}$, relating it with the entanglement entropy in the system. In agreement with the analytical results, robust superextensive behavior of $P_B^{\rm max}$ is also observed in this case. Our work provides an overall guide for expected features in experiments of quantum batteries emulated in superconducting qubit platforms, in particular ones that exhibit long-range couplings.

Quantum dynamics of Gaudin magnets

Quantum dynamics of many-body systems is a fascinating and significant subject for both theory and experiment. The question of how an isolated many-body system evolves to its steady state after a sudden perturbation or quench still remains challenging. In this paper, using the Bethe ansatz wave function, we study the quantum dynamics of an inhomogeneous Gaudin magnet. We derive explicit analytical expressions for various local dynamic quantities with an arbitrary number of flipped bath spins, such as: the spin distribution function, the spin-spin correlation function, and the Loschmidt echo. We also numerically study the relaxation behavior of these dynamic properties, gaining considerable insight into coherence and entanglement between the central spin and the bath. In particular, we find that the spin-spin correlations relax to their steady value via a nearly logarithmic scaling, whereas the Loschmidt echo shows an exponential relaxation to its steady value. Our results advance the understanding of relaxation dynamics and quantum correlations of long-range interacting models of Gaudin type.

Determination of the critical exponents in dissipative phase transitions: Coherent anomaly approach

We propose a generalization of the coherent anomaly method to extract the critical exponents of a phase transition occurring in the steady-state of an open quantum many-body system. The method, originally developed by Suzuki [J. Phys. Soc. Jpn. {\bf 55}, 4205 (1986)] for equilibrium systems, is based on the scaling properties of the singularity in the response functions determined through cluster mean-field calculations. We apply this method to the dissipative transverse-field Ising model and the dissipative XYZ model in two dimensions obtaining convergent results already with small clusters.

Lower and upper bounds of quantum battery power in multiple central spin systems

We study the energy transfer process in quantum battery systems consisting of multiple central spins and bath spins. Here with "quantum battery" we refer to the central spins, whereas the bath serves as the "charger". For the single central-spin battery, we analytically derive the time evolutions of the energy transfer and the charging power with arbitrary number of bath spins. For the case of multiple central spins in the battery, we find the scaling-law relation between the maximum power $P_{max}$ and the number of central spins $N_B$. It approximately satisfies a scaling law relation $P_{max}\propto N_{B}^α$, where scaling exponent $α$ varies with the bath spin number $N$ from the lower bound $α=1/2$ to the upper bound $α=3/2$. The lower and upper bounds correspond to the limits $N\to 1$ and $N\gg N_B$, respectively. In thermodynamic limit, by applying the Holstein-Primakoff (H-P) transformation, we rigorously prove that the upper bound is $P_{max}=0.72 B A \sqrt{N} N_{B}^{3/2}$, which shows the same advantage in scaling of a recent charging protocol based on the Tavis-Cummins model. Here $B$ and $A $ are the external magnetic field and coupling constant between the battery and the charger.

Exact quantum dynamics of XXZ central spin problems

We obtain analytically close forms of benchmark quantum dynamics of the collapse and revival (CR), reduced density matrix, Von Neumann entropy, and fidelity for the XXZ central spin problem. These quantities characterize the quantum decoherence and entanglement of the system with few to many bath spins, and for a short to infinitely long time evolution. For the homogeneous central spin problem, the effective magnetic field $B$, coupling constant $A$ and longitudinal interaction $Δ$ significantly influence the time scales of the quantum dynamics of the central spin and the bath, providing a tunable resource for quantum metrology. Under the resonance condition $B=Δ=A$, the location of the $m$-th revival peak in time reaches a simple relation $t_{r} \simeq\frac{πN}{A} m$ for a large $N$. For $Δ=0$, $N\to \infty$ and a small polarization in the initial spin coherent state, our analytical result for the CR recovers the known expression found in the Jaynes-Cummings model, thus building up an exact dynamical connection between the central spin problems and the light-matter interacting systems in quantum nonlinear optics. In addition, the CR dynamics is robust to a moderate inhomogeneity of the coupling amplitudes, while disappearing at strong inhomogeneity.

Universal Properties of Fermi Gases in One-dimension

In this Rapid Communication, we investigate the universal properties of a spin-polarized two-component Fermi gas in one dimension (1D) using Bethe ansatz. We discuss the quantum phases and phase transitions by obtaining exact results for the equation of state, the contact, the magnetic susceptibility and the contact susceptibility, giving a precise understanding of the 1D analogue of the Bose-Einstein condensation and Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer crossover in three dimension (3D) and the associated universal magnetic properties. In particular, we obtain the exact form of the magnetic susceptibility $χ\sim {1}/{\sqrt{T}}\exp(-Δ/T)$ at low temperatures, where $Δ$ is the energy gap and $T$ is the temperature. Moreover, we establish exact upper and lower bounds for the relation between polarization $P$ and the contact $C$ for both repulsive and attractive Fermi gases. Our findings emphasize the role of the pair fluctuations in strongly interacting 1D fermion systems that can shed light on higher dimensions.
