Thermodynamic limit of the spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ XYZ spin chain with the antiperiodic boundary condition

Based on its off-diagonal Bethe ansatz solution, we study the thermodynamic limit of the spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ XYZ spin chain with the antiperiodic boundary condition. The key point of our method is that there exist some degenerate points of the crossing parameter $η_{m,l}$, at which the associated inhomogeneous $T-Q$ relation becomes a homogeneous one. This makes extrapolating the formulae deriving from the homogeneous one to an arbitrary $η$ with $O(N^{-2})$ corrections for a large $N$ possible. The ground state energy and elementary excitations of the system are obtained. By taking the trigonometric limit, we also give the results of antiperiodic XXZ spin chain within the gapless region in the thermodynamic limit, which does not have any degenerate points.

Controllable generations of several nonlinear waves in optical fibers with third-order dispersion

We propose a method to controllably generate six kinds of nonlinear waves on continuous waves, including the one- and multi-peak solitons, the Akhmediev, Kuznetsov-Ma, and Taijiri-Watanabe breathers, and stable periodic waves. In the nonlinear fiber system with third-order dispersion, we illustrate their generation conditions by the modified linear stability analysis, and numerically generate them from initial perturbations on continuous waves. We implement the quantitative control over their dynamical features, including the wave type, velocity, periodicity, and localization. Our results may provide an effective scheme for generating optical solitons on continuous waves, and it can also be applied for wave generations in other various nonlinear systems.

Decoherence dynamics of entangled quantum states in the $XXX$ central spin model

Maintaining coherence of a qubit is of vital importance for realizing a large-scale quantum computer in practice. In this work, we study the central spin decoherence problem in the $XXX$ central spin model (CSM) and focus on the quantum states with different initial entanglement, namely intra-bath entanglement or system-bath entanglement. We analytically obtain their evolutions of fidelity, entanglement, and quantum coherence. When the initial bath spins constitute an $N$-particle entangled state (the Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger-bath or the $W$-bath), the leading amplitudes of their fidelity evolutions both scale as $\mathcal O(1/N)$, which is the same as the case of a fully polarized bath. However, when the central spin is maximally entangled with one of the bath spins, the amplitude scaling of its fidelity evolution declines from $\mathcal O(1/N)$ to $\mathcal O(1/N^2)$. That implies appropriate initial system-bath entanglement is contributive to suppress central spin decoherence. In addition, with the help of system-bath entanglement, we realize quantum coherence-enhanced dynamics for the central spin where the consumption of bath entanglement is shown to play a central role.

Diagnosis inspired by the thermodynamic geometry for different thermodynamic schemes of the charged BTZ black hole

Due to the asymptotic structure of the black hole solution, there are two different thermodynamic schemes for the charged Banados-Teitelboim-Zanelli (BTZ) black hole. In one scheme, the charged BTZ black hole is super-entropic, while in the other, it is not (the reverse isoperimetric inequality is saturated). In this paper, we investigate the thermodynamic curvature of the charged BTZ black hole in different coordinate spaces. We find that in both schemes, the thermodynamic curvature is always positive, which may be related to the information of repulsive interaction between black hole molecules for the charged BTZ black hole if we accept an empirical relationship between the thermodynamic curvature and interaction of a system. More importantly, we provide a diagnosis for the discrimination of the two schemes from the point of view of the thermodynamics geometry. For the charged BTZ black hole, when the reverse isoperimetric inequality is saturated, the thermodynamic curvature of an extreme black hole tends to be infinity, while when the reverse isoperimetric inequality is violated, the thermodynamic curvature of the extreme black hole goes to a finite value.

Graded Off-diagonal Bethe ansatz solution of the $SU(2|2)$ spin chain model with generic integrable boundaries

The graded off-diagonal Bethe ansatz method is proposed to study supersymmetric quantum integrable models (i.e., quantum integrable models associated with superalgebras). As an example, the exact solutions of the $SU(2|2)$ vertex model with both periodic and generic open boundary conditions are constructed. By generalizing the fusion techniques to the supersymmetric case, a closed set of operator product identities about the transfer matrices are derived, which allows us to give the eigenvalues in terms of homogeneous or inhomogeneous $T-Q$ relations. The method and results provided in this paper can be generalized to other high rank supersymmetric quantum integrable models.

A new measure of thermal micro-behavior for the AdS black hole

Inspired by the hypothesis of the black hole molecule, with the help of the Hawking temperature, entropy and the thermodynamics curvature of the black hole, we propose a new measure of the relation between the interaction and the thermal motion of molecules of the AdS black hole as a preliminary and coarse-grained description. The measure enables us to introduce a dimensionless ratio to characterize this relation and show that there is indeed competition between the interaction among black hole molecules and their thermal motion. For the charged AdS black hole, below the critical dimensionless pressure, there are three transitions between the interaction state and the thermal motion state. While above the critical dimensionless pressure, there is only one transition. For the Schwarzschild-AdS black hole and five-dimensional Gauss-Bonnet AdS black hole, there is always a transition between the interaction state and the thermal motion state.

Exact ground state and elementary excitations of a topological spin chain

A novel Bethe Ansatz scheme is proposed to calculate physical properties of quantum integrable systems without $U(1)$ symmetry. As an example, the anti-periodic XXZ spin chain, a typical correlated many-body system embedded in a topological manifold, is examined. Conserved "momentum" and "charge" operators are constructed despite the absence of translational invariance and $U(1)$ symmetry. The ground state energy and elementary excitations are derived exactly. It is found that two intrinsic fractional (one half) zero modes accounting for the double degeneracy exist in the eigenstates. The elementary excitations show quite a different picture from that of a periodic chain. This method can be applied to other quantum integrable models either with or without $U(1)$ symmetry.

Fine micro-thermal structures for Reissner-Nordström black hole

We solve the condundrum on whether the molecules of the Reissner-Nordström black hole interact through the Ruppeiner thermodynamic geometry, basing our study on the concept of the black hole molecule proposed in [Phys. Rev. Lett. 115 (2015) 111302] and choosing the appropriate extensive variables. Our results show that the Reissner-Nordström black hole is indeed an interaction system that may be dominated by repulsive interaction. More importantly, with the help of a novel quantity, namely the thermal-charge density, we describe the fine micro-thermal structures of the Reissner-Nordström black hole in detail. Three different phases are presented, namely the free, interactive, and balanced phases. The thermal-charge density plays a role similar to the order parameter, and the back hole undergoes a new phase transition between the free phase and interactive phase. The competition between the free phase and interactive phase exists, which leads to extreme behavior of the temperature of the Reissner-Nordström black hole. For the extreme Reissner-Nordström black hole, the entire system is completely in the interactive phase. More importantly, we provide the thermodynamic micro-mechanism for the formation of the naked singularity of the Reissner-Nordström black hole.

Turbulent cascade induced persistent current of cold atomic superfluids

Dissipating of disorder quantum vortices in an annular two-dimensional Bose-Einstein condensate can form a macroscopic persistent flow of atoms. We propose a protocol to create persistent flow with high winding number based on a double concentric ring-shaped configuration. We find that a sudden geometric quench of the trap from single ring-shape into double concentric ring-shape will enhance the circulation flow in the outer ring-shaped region of the trap when the initial state of the condensate is with randomly distributed vortices of the same charge. The circulation flows that we created are with high stability and good uniformity free from topological excitations. Our study is promising for new atomtronic designing, and is also helpful for quantitatively understanding quantum tunneling and interacting quantum systems driven far from equilibrium.

Coherence of an extended central spin model with a coupled spin bath

We study an extended central spin model with an isotropic nearest-neighbour spin-exchange interaction among the bath spins. The system is controllable by external magnetic fields applied on the central spin and the bath, respectively. We construct a basis set of the Hilbert space and express the Hamiltonian of the extended model into a series of $2\times2$ block matrices to obtain the exact solution of the model successfully. Therefrom, the coherence and the spin polarization of the central spin are investigated. We find that if the couplings among the bath spins are antiferromagnetic, the central spin has good coherence and polarization at low temperatures. Moreover, the decoherence is greatly suppressed at the critical point where the strengthes of the central and the bath magnetic field take the same value. A dephasing phenomenon is identified when the initial state of the central spin is unpolarized.

Ruppeiner thermodynamic geometry for the Schwarzschild-AdS black hole

Due to the non-independence of entropy and thermodynamic volume for spherically symmetric black holes in the AdS spacetime, when applying the Ruppeiner thermodynamic geometry theory to these black holes, we often encounter an unavoidable problem of the singularity about the line element of thermodynamic geometry. In this paper, we propose a basic and natural scheme for dealing with the thermodynamic geometry of spherically symmetric AdS black holes. We point out that enthalpy, not internal energy, is the fundamental thermodynamic characteristic function for the Ruppeiner thermodynamic geometry. Based on this fact, we give the specific forms of the line element of thermodynamic geometry for Schwarzschild AdS (SAdS) black hole in different phase spaces and the results show that the thermodynamic curvatures obtained in different phase spaces are equivalent. It is shown that the thermodynamic curvature is negative which implies that the attractive interaction dominates between black hole molecules for the SAdS black hole. Meanwhile we also give an approximate expression of the thermodynamic curvature of the Schwarzschild black hole which indicates that the black hole is dominated by repulsion on low temperature region and by attraction on high temperature region.

Quantum Coherence in a Quantum Heat Engine

We identify that quantum coherence is a valuable resource in the quantum heat engine, which is designed in a quantum thermodynamic cycle assisted by a quantum Maxwell's demon. This demon is in a superposed state. The quantum work and heat are redefined as the sum of coherent and incoherent parts in the energy representation. The total quantum work and the corresponding efficiency of the heat engine can be enhanced due to the coherence consumption of the demon. In addition, we discuss an universal information heat engine driven by quantum coherence. The extractable work of this heat engine is limited by the quantum coherence, even if it has no classical thermodynamic cost. This resource-driven viewpoint provides a direct and effective way to clarify the thermodynamic processes where the coherent superposition of states cannot be ignored.

Exact solution of a anisotropic $J_1-J_2$ spin chain with antiperiodic boundary condition

The exact solution of an integrable anisotropic Heisenberg spin chain with nearest-neighbour, next-nearest-neighbour and scalar chirality couplings is studied, where the boundary condition is the antiperiodic one. The detailed construction of Hamiltonian and the proof of integrability are given. The antiperiodic boundary condition breaks the $U(1)$-symmetry of the system and we use the off-diagonal Bethe Ansatz to solve it. The energy spectrum is characterized by the inhomogeneous $T-Q$ relations and the contribution of the inhomogeneous term is studied. The ground state energy and the twisted boundary energy in different regions are obtained. We also find that the Bethe roots at the ground state form the string structure if the coupling constant $J=-1$ although the Bethe Ansatz equations are the inhomogeneous ones.

Off-diagonal Bethe Ansatz on the $so(5)$ spin chain

The $so(5)$ (i.e., $B_2$) quantum integrable spin chains with both periodic and non-diagonal boundaries are studied via the off-diagonal Bethe Ansatz method. By using the fusion technique, sufficient operator product identities (comparing to those in [1]) to determine the spectrum of the transfer matrices are derived. For the periodic case, we recover the results obtained in \cite{NYReshetikhin1}, while for the non-diagonal boundary case, a new inhomogeneous $T-Q$ relation is constructed. The present method can be directly generalized to deal with the $so(2n+1)$ (i.e., $B_n$) quantum integrable spin chains with general boundaries.

Collective oscillations of a Bose-Einstein condensate induced by a vortex ring

We study the collective oscillations of three-dimensional Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) excited by a vortex ring. We identify independent, integrated, and stationary modes of the center-of-mass oscillation of the condensate with respect to the vortex ring movement. We show that the oscillation amplitude {of the center-of-mass of the condensate} depends strongly on the initial radius of the vortex ring, the inter-atomic interaction, and the aspect ration of the trap, while the oscillation frequency is fixed and equal to the frequency of the harmonic trap in the direction of the ring movement. However, when applying Kelvin wave perturbations on the vortex ring, the center-of-mass oscillation of the BEC is changed nontrivially with respect to the perturbation modes, the long-scale perturbation strength as well as the wave number of the perturbations. The parity of the wave number of the Kelvin perturbations plays important role on the mode of the center-of-mass oscillation of the condensate.

Breather induced quantized superfluid vortex filaments and their characterization

We study and characterize the breather-induced quantized superfluid vortex filaments which correspond to the Kuznetsov-Ma breather and super-regular breather excitations developing from localised perturbations. Such vortex filaments, emerging from an otherwise perturbed helical vortex, exhibit intriguing loop structures corresponding to the large amplitude of breathers due to the dual action of bending and twisting of the vortex. The loop induced by Kuznetsov-Ma breather emerges periodically as time increases, while the loop structure triggered by super-regular breather---the loop pair---exhibits striking symmetry breaking due to the broken reflection symmetry of the group velocities of super-regular breather. In particular, we identify explicitly the generation conditions of these loop excitations by introducing a physical quantity---the integral of the relative quadratic curvature---which corresponds to the effective energy of breathers. Although the nature of nonlinearity, it is demonstrated that this physical quantity shows a linear correlation with the loop size. These results will deepen our understanding of breather-induced vortex filaments and be helpful for controllable ring-like excitations on the vortices.

Exact solution of the $sp(4)$ integrable spin chain with generic boundaries

The off-diagonal Bethe ansatz method is generalized to the integrable model associated with the $sp(4)$ (or $C_2$) Lie algebra. By using the fusion technique, we obtain the complete operator product identities among the fused transfer matrices. These relations, together with some asymptotic behaviors and values of the transfer matrices at certain points, enable us to determine the eigenvalues of the transfer matrices completely. For the periodic boundary condition case, we recover the same $T-Q$ relations obtained via conventional Bethe ansatz methods previously, while for the off-diagonal boundary condition case, the eigenvalues are given in terms of inhomogeneous $T-Q$ relations, which could not be obtained by the conventional Bethe ansatz methods. The method developed in this paper can be directly generalized to generic $sp(2n)$ (i.e., $C_n$) integrable model.

Exact solution of an integrable anisotropic $J_1-J_2$ spin chain model

An integrable anisotropic Heisenberg spin chain with nearest-neighbour couplings, next-nearest-neighbour couplings and scalar chirality terms is constructed. After proving the integrability, we obtain the exact solution of the system. The ground state and the elementary excitations are also studied. It is shown that the spinon excitation of the present model possesses a novel triple arched structure. The elementary excitation is gapless if the anisotropic parameter $η$ is real while the elementary excitation has an enhanced gap by the next-nearest-neighbour and chiral three-spin interactions if the anisotropic parameter $η$ is imaginary. The method of this paper provides a general way to construct new integrable models with next-nearest-neighbour interactions.
