More visualisation of decay-time-dependent asymmetries in multibody B-meson decays

Methods have been proposed recently to weight data in order to allow visualisation of CP-violation effects in transitions of neutral B mesons to multibody final states that are not CP-eigenstates. These are useful since integration of the unweighted data over the phase space would otherwise wash out the effects of interest. A similar method, elaborated upon here, with a different weighting function can also be used to visualise CP-conserving $B_{(s)}^0$--$\overline{B}{}_{(s)}^0$ oscillations, rather than the CP-violating asymmetries. Together with the other weighting functions, this new method could be useful, for example, to demonstrate the accuracy of the calibration of the flavour tagging algorithms that are crucial for analyses such as the measurement of the CP-violating phase in $B_s^0 \to J/\!ψϕ$ decays. Their application to the formalism in common use for such decays is explicitly demonstrated.

GBRIP: Granular Ball Representation for Imbalanced Partial Label Learning

Partial label learning (PLL) is a complicated weakly supervised multi-classification task compounded by class imbalance. Currently, existing methods only rely on inter-class pseudo-labeling from inter-class features, often overlooking the significant impact of the intra-class imbalanced features combined with the inter-class. To address these limitations, we introduce Granular Ball Representation for Imbalanced PLL (GBRIP), a novel framework for imbalanced PLL. GBRIP utilizes coarse-grained granular ball representation and multi-center loss to construct a granular ball-based nfeature space through unsupervised learning, effectively capturing the feature distribution within each class. GBRIP mitigates the impact of confusing features by systematically refining label disambiguation and estimating imbalance distributions. The novel multi-center loss function enhances learning by emphasizing the relationships between samples and their respective centers within the granular balls. Extensive experiments on standard benchmarks demonstrate that GBRIP outperforms existing state-of-the-art methods, offering a robust solution to the challenges of imbalanced PLL.

Visualisation of $CP$-violation effects in decay-time-dependent analyses of multibody $B$-meson decays

Decay-time-dependent $CP$-violation effects in transitions of neutral $B$ mesons to $CP$-eigenstates can be visualised by oscillations in the asymmetry, as a function of decay time, between decay yields from mesons tagged as initially having $\overline{B}$ or $B$ flavour. Such images, for example for $B^0 \to J/ψK^0_{\rm S}$ decays where the magnitude of the oscillation is proportional to $\sin(2β)$ with $β$ being an angle of the Cabibbo--Kobayashi--Maskawa Unitarity Triangle, provide a straightforward illustration of the underlying physics. Until now there has been no comparable method to provide visualisation for the case of decays to multibody final states that are not $CP$-eigenstates, where interference between $CP$-even and -odd amplitudes provides additional physics sensitivity. A method is proposed to weight the data so that the terms of interest can be projected out and used to obtain asymmetries that visualise the relevant effects. Application of the weighting to $B^0_s$ decays, where effects due to non-zero width difference are not negligible, provides a novel method to observe $CP$ violation in interference between mixing and decay without tagging the production flavour.

Heavy Flavour Physics and CP Violation at LHCb: a Ten-Year Review

Heavy flavour physics provides excellent opportunities to indirectly search for new physics at very high energy scales and to study hadron properties for deep understanding of the strong interaction. The LHCb experiment has been playing a leading role in the study of heavy flavour physics since the start of the LHC operations about ten years ago, and made a range of high-precision measurements and unexpected discoveries, which may have far-reaching implications on the field of particle physics. This review highlights a selection of the most influential physics results on CP violation, rare decays, and heavy flavour production and spectroscopy obtained by LHCb using the data collected during the first two operation periods of the LHC. The upgrade plan of LHCb and the physics prospects are also briefly discussed.

Sensitivity studies on the CKM angle $γ$ in $Λ_b^0 \to DΛ$ decays

The sensitivity of the CKM angle $γ$ in $Λ_b^0 \to D Λ$ decays has been studied using the decay parameter $α$ as an observable in addition to the decay rate asymmetry. Feasibility studies show that adding this observable improves the sensitivity on $γ$ by up to 60\% and makes the decays one of the most promising places to measure angle $γ$ and to search for $C\!P$ violation in $b$-baryon decays.

A novel method to test particle ordering and final state alignment in helicity formalism

In this article, the importance is demonstrated of a proper choice of reference particles for decay angle definitions, when constructing partial-wave amplitude of multi-body decays using helicity formalism. This issue is often ignored in the standard use case of the helicity formalism. A new technique is proposed to determine the correct particle ordering, and can also be used as a generalized method to calculate the rotation operators used for the final-state alignment between different decay chains. Numerical validations are also performed to support the arguments and new technique proposed in this article.

Laura++ : a Dalitz plot fitter

The Dalitz plot analysis technique has become an increasingly important method in heavy flavour physics. The Laura++ fitter has been developed as a flexible tool that can be used for Dalitz plot analyses in different experimental environments. Explicitly designed for three-body decays of heavy-flavoured mesons to spinless final state particles, it is optimised in order to describe all possible resonant or nonresonant contributions, and to accommodate possible CP violation effects.
