On binary quadratic forms and the Hecke groups

We present a theory of reduction of binary quadratic forms with coefficients in Z[lambda], where lambda is the minimal translation in a Hecke group. We generalize from the modular group Gamma(1) = SL(2,Z) to the Hecke groups and make extensive use of modified negative continued fractions.

Rational period functions on the Hecke groups

We describe rational period functions on the Hecke groups and characterize the ones whose poles satisfy a certain symmetry. This generalizes part of the characterization of rational period functions on the modular group, which is one of the Hecke groups.
