Revisiting the Negative Data of Distantly Supervised Relation Extraction

Distantly supervision automatically generates plenty of training samples for relation extraction. However, it also incurs two major problems: noisy labels and imbalanced training data. Previous works focus more on reducing wrongly labeled relations (false positives) while few explore the missing relations that are caused by incompleteness of knowledge base (false negatives). Furthermore, the quantity of negative labels overwhelmingly surpasses the positive ones in previous problem formulations. In this paper, we first provide a thorough analysis of the above challenges caused by negative data. Next, we formulate the problem of relation extraction into as a positive unlabeled learning task to alleviate false negative problem. Thirdly, we propose a pipeline approach, dubbed \textsc{ReRe}, that performs sentence-level relation detection then subject/object extraction to achieve sample-efficient training. Experimental results show that the proposed method consistently outperforms existing approaches and remains excellent performance even learned with a large quantity of false positive samples.

Text Assisted Insight Ranking Using Context-Aware Memory Network

Extracting valuable facts or informative summaries from multi-dimensional tables, i.e. insight mining, is an important task in data analysis and business intelligence. However, ranking the importance of insights remains a challenging and unexplored task. The main challenge is that explicitly scoring an insight or giving it a rank requires a thorough understanding of the tables and costs a lot of manual efforts, which leads to the lack of available training data for the insight ranking problem. In this paper, we propose an insight ranking model that consists of two parts: A neural ranking model explores the data characteristics, such as the header semantics and the data statistical features, and a memory network model introduces table structure and context information into the ranking process. We also build a dataset with text assistance. Experimental results show that our approach largely improves the ranking precision as reported in multi evaluation metrics.

Learning Personalized End-to-End Goal-Oriented Dialog

Most existing works on dialog systems only consider conversation content while neglecting the personality of the user the bot is interacting with, which begets several unsolved issues. In this paper, we present a personalized end-to-end model in an attempt to leverage personalization in goal-oriented dialogs. We first introduce a Profile Model which encodes user profiles into distributed embeddings and refers to conversation history from other similar users. Then a Preference Model captures user preferences over knowledge base entities to handle the ambiguity in user requests. The two models are combined into the Personalized MemN2N. Experiments show that the proposed model achieves qualitative performance improvements over state-of-the-art methods. As for human evaluation, it also outperforms other approaches in terms of task completion rate and user satisfaction.

Group Testing with Prior Statistics

We consider a new group testing model wherein each item is a binary random variable defined by an a priori probability of being defective. We assume that each probability is small and that items are independent, but not necessarily identically distributed. The goal of group testing algorithms is to identify with high probability the subset of defectives via non-linear (disjunctive) binary measurements. Our main contributions are two classes of algorithms: (1) adaptive algorithms with tests based either on a maximum entropy principle, or on a Shannon-Fano/Huffman code; (2) non-adaptive algorithms. Under loose assumptions and with high probability, our algorithms only need a number of measurements that is close to the information-theoretic lower bound, up to an explicitly-calculated universal constant factor. We provide simulations to support our results.

Improved Knowledge Base Completion by Path-Augmented TransR Model

Knowledge base completion aims to infer new relations from existing information. In this paper, we propose path-augmented TransR (PTransR) model to improve the accuracy of link prediction. In our approach, we base PTransR model on TransR, which is the best one-hop model at present. Then we regularize TransR with information of relation paths. In our experiment, we evaluate PTransR on the task of entity prediction. Experimental results show that PTransR outperforms previous models.
