The Cauchy problem for the nonlinear viscous Boussinesq equation in the $L^q$ framework

In this paper, we study the viscous Boussinesq equation in the whole space $\mathbb{R}^n$, which describes the propagation of small amplitude and long waves on the surface of water with viscous effects. Concerning the linearized Cauchy problem, some qualitative properties of solutions including $L^m-L^q$ estimates with $1\leqslant m\leqslant q\leqslant \infty$, inviscid limits and asymptotic profiles of solution with respect to the small viscosity are investigated by means of the Fourier analysis and the WKB method. For another, by applying some fractional order interpolations in the harmonic analysis, we derive the $L^q$ well-posedness and estimates for small data solutions to the nonlinear viscous Boussinesq equation under some conditions for the parameter of nonlinearity.

Asymptotic behaviors for Blackstock's model of thermoviscous flow

We study a fundamental model in nonlinear acoustics, precisely, the general Blackstock's model (that is, without Becker's assumption) in the whole space $\mathbb{R}^n$. This model describes nonlinear acoustics in perfect gases under the irrotational flow. By means of the Fourier analysis we will derive $L^2$ estimates for the solution of the linear homogeneous problem and its derivatives. Then, we will apply these estimates to study three different topics: the optimality of the decay estimates in the case $n\geqslant 5$ and the optimal growth rate for the $L^2$-norm of the solution for $n=3,4$; the singular limit problem in determining the first- and second-order profiles for the solution of the linear Blackstock's model with respect to the small thermal diffusivity; the proof of the existence of global (in time) small data Sobolev solutions with suitable regularity for a nonlinear Blackstock's model.

On the critical exponent and sharp lifespan estimates for semilinear damped wave equations with data from Sobolev spaces of negative order

We study semilinear damped wave equations with power nonlinearity $|u|^p$ and initial data belonging to Sobolev spaces of negative order $\dot{H}^{-γ}$. In the present paper, we obtain a new critical exponent $p=p_{\mathrm{crit}}(n,γ):=1+\frac{4}{n+2γ}$ for some $γ\in(0,\frac{n}{2})$ and low dimensions in the framework of Soblev spaces of negative order. Precisely, global (in time) existence of small data Sobolev solutions of lower regularity is proved for $p>p_{\mathrm{crit}}(n,γ)$, and blow-up of weak solutions in finite time even for small data if $1<p<p_{\mathrm{crit}}(n,γ)$. Furthermore, in order to more accurately describe the blow-up time, we investigate sharp upper bound and lower bound estimates for the lifespan in the subcritical case.

Sharp lifespan estimates for the weakly coupled system of semilinear damped wave equations in the critical case

The open question, which seems to be also the final part, in terms of studying the Cauchy problem for the weakly coupled system of damped wave equations or reaction-diffusion equations, is so far known as the sharp lifespan estimates in the critical case. In this paper, we mainly investigate lifespan estimates for solutions to the weakly coupled system of semilinear damped wave equations in the critical case. By using a suitable test function method associated with nonlinear differential inequalities, we catch upper bound estimates for the lifespan. Moreover, we establish polynomial-logarithmic type time-weighted Sobolev spaces to obtain lower bound estimates for the lifespan in low spatial dimensions. Then, together with the derived lifespan estimates, new and sharp results on estimates for the lifespan in the critical case are claimed. Finally, we give an application of our results to the semilinear reaction-diffusion system in the critical case.

Nonexistence of global solutions for generalized Tricomi equations with combined nonlinearity

In the present paper, we investigate the blow-up dynamics for local solutions to the semilinear generalized Tricomi equation with combined nonlinearity. As a result, we enlarge the blow-up region in comparison to the ones for the corresponding semilinear models with either power nonlinearity or nonlinearity of derivative type. Our approach is based on an iteration argument to establish lower bound estimates for the space average of local solutions. Finally, we obtain upper bound estimates for the lifespan of local solutions as byproduct of our iteration argument.

Blow-up and lifespan estimates for Nakao's type problem with nonlinearities of derivative type

In the present paper, we investigate blow-up and lifespan estimates for a class of semilinear hyperbolic coupled system in $\mathbb{R}^n$ with $n\geqslant 1$, which is part of the so-called Nakao's type problem weakly coupled a semilinear damped wave equation with a semilinear wave equation with nonlinearities of derivative type. By constructing two time-dependent functionals and employing an iteration method for unbounded multiplier with slicing procedure, the results of blow-up and upper bound estimates for the lifespan of energy solutions are derived. The model seems to be hyperbolic-like instead of parabolic-like. Particularly, the blow-up result for one dimensional case is optimal.

Asymptotic profiles and singular limits for the viscoelastic damped wave equation with memory of type I

In this paper, we are interested in the Cauchy problem for the viscoelastic damped wave equation with memory of type I. By applying WKB analysis and Fourier analysis, we explain the memory's influence on dissipative structures and asymptotic profiles of solutions to the model with weighted $L^1$ initial data. Furthermore, concerning standard energy and the solution itself, we establish singular limit relations between the Moore-Gibson-Thompson equation with memory and the viscoelastic damped wave equation with memory.

The Cauchy problem for the Moore-Gibson-Thompson equation in the dissipative case

In this paper, we study the Cauchy problem for the linear and semilinear Moore-Gibson-Thompson (MGT) equation in the dissipative case. Concerning the linear MGT model, by utilizing WKB analysis associated with Fourier analysis, we derive some $L^2$ estimates of solutions, which improve those in the previous research [46]. Furthermore, asymptotic profiles of the solution and an approximate relation in a framework of the weighted $L^1$ space are derived. Next, with the aid of the classical energy method and Hardy's inequality, we get singular limit results for an energy and the solution itself. Concerning the semilinear MGT model, basing on these sharp $L^2$ estimates and constructing time-weighted Sobolev spaces, we investigate global (in time) existence of Sobolev solutions with different regularities. Finally, under a sign assumption on initial data, nonexistence of global (in time) weak solutions is proved by applying a test function method.

Interplay effects on blow-up of weakly coupled systems for semilinear wave equations with general nonlinear memory terms

In this paper, we study weakly coupled systems for semilinear wave equations with distinct nonlinear memory terms in general forms, and the corresponding single semilinear equation with general nonlinear memory terms. Thanks to Banach's fixed point theorem, we prove local (in time) existence of solutions with the $L^1$ assumption on the memory kernels. Then, blow-up results for energy solutions are derived applying iteration methods associated with slicing procedure. We investigate interactions on the blow-up conditions under different decreasing assumptions on the memory term. Particularly, a new threshold for the kernels on interplay effect is found. Additionally, we give some applications of our results on semilinear wave equations and acoustic wave equations.

On the Cauchy problem for semilinear regularity-loss-type $σ$-evolution models with memory term

In this paper, we consider the Cauchy problem for semilinear $σ$-evolution models with an exponential decay memory term. Concerning the corresponding linear Cauchy problem, we derive some regularity-loss-type estimates of solutions and generalized diffusion phenomena. Particularly, the obtained estimations for solutions are sharper than those in the previous paper [20]. Then, we determine the critical exponents for the semilinear Cauchy problem with power nonlinearity in some spatial dimensions by proving global (in time) existence of Sobolev solutions with low regularity of fractional orders and blow-up result for the Sobolev solutions even for any fractional value of $σ\geqslant 1$.

Blow-up of solutions to Nakao's problem via an iteration argument

In this paper, we consider blow-up behavior of weak solutions to a weakly coupled system for a semilinear damped wave equation and a semilinear wave equation in $\mathbb{R}^n$. This problem is part of the so-called Nakao's problem proposed by Professor Mitsuhiro Nakao (Kyushu University) for a critical relation between the exponents $p$ and $q$. By applying an iteration method for unbounded multipliers with a slicing procedure, we prove blow-up of weak solutions for Nakao's problem even for small data. We improve the blow-up result and upper bound estimates for lifespan comparing with the previous research, especially, in higher dimensional cases.

Nonexistence of global solutions for the semilinear Moore-Gibson-Thompson equation in the conservative case

In this work, the Cauchy problem for the semilinear Moore-Gibson-Thompson (MGT) equation with power nonlinearity $|u|^p$ on the right-hand side is studied. Applying $L^2-L^2$ estimates and a fixed point theorem, we obtain local (in time) existence of solutions to the semilinear MGT equation. Then, the blow-up of local in time solutions is proved by using an iteration method, under certain sign assumption for initial data, and providing that the exponent of the power of the nonlinearity fulfills $1 < p \leqslant p_{\mathrm{Str}}(n)$ for $n \geqslant2$ and $p>1$ for $n=1$. Here the Strauss exponent $p_{\mathrm{Str}}(n)$ is the critical exponent for the semilinear wave equation with power nonlinearity. In particular, in the limit case $p=p_{\mathrm{Str}}(n)$ a different approach with a weighted space average of a local in time solution is considered.

A global existence result for two-dimensional semilinear strongly damped wave equation with mixed nonlinearity in an exterior domain

We study two-dimensional semilinear strongly damped wave equation with mixed nonlinearity $|u|^p+|u_t|^q$ in an exterior domain, where $p,q>1$. Assuming the smallness of initial data in exponentially weighted spaces and some conditions on powers of nonlinearity, we prove global (in time) existence of small data energy solution with suitable higher regularity by using a weighted energy method.

Blow-up of solutions to semilinear strongly damped wave equations with different nonlinear terms in an exterior domain

In this paper, we consider the initial boundary value problem in an exterior domain for semilinear strongly damped wave equations with power nonlinear term of the derivative-type $|u_t|^q$ or the mixed-type $|u|^p+|u_t|^q$, where $p,q>1$. On one hand, employing the Banach fixed-point theorem we prove local (in time) existence of mild solutions. On the other hand, under some conditions for initial data and the exponents of power nonlinear terms, the blow-up results are derived by applying the test function method.

A blow-up result for the semilinear Moore-Gibson-Thompson equation with nonlinearity of derivative type in the conservative case

In this paper, we study the blow-up of solutions to the semilinear Moore-Gibson-Thompson (MGT) equation with nonlinearity of derivative type $|u_t|^p$ in the conservative case. We apply an iteration method in order to study both the subcritical case and the critical case. Hence, we obtain a blow-up result for the semilinear MGT equation (under suitable assumptions for initial data) when the exponent $p$ for the nonlinear term satisfies $1 1$ for $n=1$. In particular, we find the same blow-up range for $p$ as in the corresponding semilinear wave equation with nonlinearity of derivative type.

Asymptotic profiles of solutions for regularity-loss type generalized thermoelastic plate equations and their applications

In this paper, we consider generalized thermoelastic plate equations with Fourier's law of heat conduction. By introducing a threshold for decay properties of regularity-loss, we investigate decay estimates of solutions with/without regularity-loss in a framework of weighted $L^1$ spaces. Furthermore, asymptotic profiles of solutions are obtained by using representations of solutions in the Fourier space, which are derived by employing WKB analysis. Next, we study generalized thermoelastic plate equations with additional structural damping, and analysis the influence of structural damping on decay properties and asymptotic profiles of solutions. We find that the regularity-loss structure is destroyed by structural damping. Finally, we give some applications of our results on thermoelastic plate equations and damped Moore-Gibson-Thompson equation.

Weakly coupled systems of semi-linear Klein-Gordon equations with memory-type dissipation

We are concerned with the existence of global in time solutions to the Cauchy problem for semi-linear Klein-Gordon equations with memory-type dissipation in $\mathbb{R}^n$. In the first place, we consider the linearized equation: applying the energy method in the Fourier space, we derive the point-wise estimate of a solution in the Fourier space. However, we found that the function in energy estimates has a mistake.

Decay properties and asymptotic profiles for elastic waves with Kelvin-Voigt damping in 2D

In this paper we consider elastic waves with Kelvin-Voigt damping in 2D. For the linear problem, applying pointwise estimates of the partial Fourier transform of solutions in the Fourier space and asymptotic expansions of eigenvalues and their eigenprojections, we obtain sharp energy decay estimates with additional $L^m$ regularity and $L^p-L^q$ estimates on the conjugate line. Furthermore, we derive asymptotic profiles of solutions under different assumptions of initial data. For the semilinear problem, we use the derived $L^2-L^2$ estimates with additional $L^m$ regularity to prove global (in time) existence of small data solutions to the weakly coupled system. Finally, to deal with elastic waves with Kelvin-Voigt damping in 3D, we apply the Helmholtz decomposition.
