Measurements of the Total Cross section for Thermal Neutrons at PNS

In order to measure the total cross section for thermal neutrons, a photoneutron source (PNS, phase 1) has been developed for the acquisition of nuclear data for the Thorium Molten Salt Reactor (TMSR) at the Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics (SINAP). PNS is an electron LINAC pulsed neutron facility that uses the time-of-flight (TOF) technique. It records the neutron TOF and identifies neutrons and $γ$-rays by using a digital signal processing technique. The background is obtained by using a combination of employing 12.8 cm boron-loaded polyethylene(PEB) (5$\%$ w.t.) to block the flight path and Monte Carlo methods. The neutron total cross sections of natural beryllium are measured in the neutron energy region from 0.007 to 0.1 eV. The present measurement result is compared with the fold Harvey data with the response function of PNS.

Optical analogies to quantum states and coherent detection of pseudorandom phase sequence

The key to optical analogy to a multi-particle quantum system is the scalable property. Optical elds modulated with pseudorandom phase sequences is an interesting solution. By utilizing the properties of pseudorandom sequences, mixing multiple optical elds are distinguished by using coherent detection and correlation analysis that are mature methods in optical communication. In this paper, we utilize the methods to investigate optical analogies to multi-particle quantum states. In order to demonstrate the feasibility, numerical simulations are carried out in the paper, which is helpful to the experimental verication in the future.

Optical analogy to quantum computation based on classical fields modulated pseudorandom phase sequences

We demonstrate that a tensor product structure and optical analogy of quantum entanglement can be obtained by introducing pseudorandom phase sequences into classical fields with two orthogonal modes. Using the classical analogy, we discuss efficient simulation of several typical quantum states, including product state, Bell states, GHZ state, and W state. By performing quadrature demodulation scheme, we propose a sequence permutation mechanism to simulate certain quantum states and a generalized gate array model to simulate quantum algorithm, such as Shor's algorithm and Grover's algorithm. The research on classical simulation of quantum states is important, for it not only enables potential beyond quantum computation, but also provides useful insights into fundamental concepts of quantum mechanics.
