Unveiling and Mitigating Generalized Biases of DNNs through the Intrinsic Dimensions of Perceptual Manifolds

Building fair deep neural networks (DNNs) is a crucial step towards achieving trustworthy artificial intelligence. Delving into deeper factors that affect the fairness of DNNs is paramount and serves as the foundation for mitigating model biases. However, current methods are limited in accurately predicting DNN biases, relying solely on the number of training samples and lacking more precise measurement tools. Here, we establish a geometric perspective for analyzing the fairness of DNNs, comprehensively exploring how DNNs internally shape the intrinsic geometric characteristics of datasets-the intrinsic dimensions (IDs) of perceptual manifolds, and the impact of IDs on the fairness of DNNs. Based on multiple findings, we propose Intrinsic Dimension Regularization (IDR), which enhances the fairness and performance of models by promoting the learning of concise and ID-balanced class perceptual manifolds. In various image recognition benchmark tests, IDR significantly mitigates model bias while improving its performance.

Edit-Your-Motion: Space-Time Diffusion Decoupling Learning for Video Motion Editing

Existing diffusion-based methods have achieved impressive results in human motion editing. However, these methods often exhibit significant ghosting and body distortion in unseen in-the-wild cases. In this paper, we introduce Edit-Your-Motion, a video motion editing method that tackles these challenges through one-shot fine-tuning on unseen cases. Specifically, firstly, we utilized DDIM inversion to initialize the noise, preserving the appearance of the source video and designed a lightweight motion attention adapter module to enhance motion fidelity. DDIM inversion aims to obtain the implicit representations by estimating the prediction noise from the source video, which serves as a starting point for the sampling process, ensuring the appearance consistency between the source and edited videos. The Motion Attention Module (MA) enhances the model's motion editing ability by resolving the conflict between the skeleton features and the appearance features. Secondly, to effectively decouple motion and appearance of source video, we design a spatio-temporal two-stage learning strategy (STL). In the first stage, we focus on learning temporal features of human motion and propose recurrent causal attention (RCA) to ensure consistency between video frames. In the second stage, we shift focus on learning the appearance features of the source video. With Edit-Your-Motion, users can edit the motion of humans in the source video, creating more engaging and diverse content. Extensive qualitative and quantitative experiments, along with user preference studies, show that Edit-Your-Motion outperforms other methods.

Triple Point Masking

Existing 3D mask learning methods encounter performance bottlenecks under limited data, and our objective is to overcome this limitation. In this paper, we introduce a triple point masking scheme, named TPM, which serves as a scalable framework for pre-training of masked autoencoders to achieve multi-mask learning for 3D point clouds. Specifically, we augment the baselines with two additional mask choices (i.e., medium mask and low mask) as our core insight is that the recovery process of an object can manifest in diverse ways. Previous high-masking schemes focus on capturing the global representation but lack the fine-grained recovery capability, so that the generated pre-trained weights tend to play a limited role in the fine-tuning process. With the support of the proposed TPM, available methods can exhibit more flexible and accurate completion capabilities, enabling the potential autoencoder in the pre-training stage to consider multiple representations of a single 3D object. In addition, an SVM-guided weight selection module is proposed to fill the encoder parameters for downstream networks with the optimal weight during the fine-tuning stage, maximizing linear accuracy and facilitating the acquisition of intricate representations for new objects. Extensive experiments show that the four baselines equipped with the proposed TPM achieve comprehensive performance improvements on various downstream tasks. Our code and models are available at https://github.com/liujia99/TPM.

Research on the Construction of Maximum Distance Separable Codes via Arbitrary twisted Generalized Reed-Solomon Codes

Maximum distance separable (MDS) codes have significant combinatorial and cryptographic applications due to their certain optimality. Generalized Reed-Solomon (GRS) codes are the most prominent MDS codes. Twisted generalized Reed-Solomon (TGRS) codes may not necessarily be MDS. It is meaningful to study the conditions under which TGRS codes are MDS. In this paper, we study a general class of TGRS (A-TGRS) codes which include all the known special ones. First, we obtain a new explicit expression of the inverse of the Vandermonde matrix. Based on this, we further derive an equivalent condition under which an A-TGRS code is MDS. According to this, the A-TGRS MDS codes include nearly all the known related results in the previous literatures. More importantly, we also obtain many other classes of MDS TGRS codes with new parameter matrices. In addition, we present a new method to compute the inverse of the lower triangular Toplitz matrix by a linear feedback shift register, which will be very useful in many research fields.

M3SOT: Multi-frame, Multi-field, Multi-space 3D Single Object Tracking

3D Single Object Tracking (SOT) stands a forefront task of computer vision, proving essential for applications like autonomous driving. Sparse and occluded data in scene point clouds introduce variations in the appearance of tracked objects, adding complexity to the task. In this research, we unveil M3SOT, a novel 3D SOT framework, which synergizes multiple input frames (template sets), multiple receptive fields (continuous contexts), and multiple solution spaces (distinct tasks) in ONE model. Remarkably, M3SOT pioneers in modeling temporality, contexts, and tasks directly from point clouds, revisiting a perspective on the key factors influencing SOT. To this end, we design a transformer-based network centered on point cloud targets in the search area, aggregating diverse contextual representations and propagating target cues by employing historical frames. As M3SOT spans varied processing perspectives, we've streamlined the network-trimming its depth and optimizing its structure-to ensure a lightweight and efficient deployment for SOT applications. We posit that, backed by practical construction, M3SOT sidesteps the need for complex frameworks and auxiliary components to deliver sterling results. Extensive experiments on benchmarks such as KITTI, nuScenes, and Waymo Open Dataset demonstrate that M3SOT achieves state-of-the-art performance at 38 FPS. Evolutionary Multitasking with Solution Space Cutting for Point Cloud Registration

Point cloud registration (PCR) is a popular research topic in computer vision. Recently, the registration method in an evolutionary way has received continuous attention because of its robustness to the initial pose and flexibility in objective function design. However, most evolving registration methods cannot tackle the local optimum well and they have rarely investigated the success ratio, which implies the probability of not falling into local optima and is closely related to the practicality of the algorithm. Evolutionary multi-task optimization (EMTO) is a widely used paradigm, which can boost exploration capability through knowledge transfer among related tasks. Inspired by this concept, this study proposes a novel evolving registration algorithm via EMTO, where the multi-task configuration is based on the idea of solution space cutting. Concretely, one task searching in cut space assists another task with complex function landscape in escaping from local optima and enhancing successful registration ratio. To reduce unnecessary computational cost, a sparse-to-dense strategy is proposed. In addition, a novel fitness function robust to various overlap rates as well as a problem-specific metric of computational cost is introduced. Compared with 8 evolving approaches, 4 traditional approaches and 3 deep learning approaches on the object-scale and scene-scale registration datasets, experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method has superior performances in terms of precision and tackling local optima.

Multi-view Point Cloud Registration based on Evolutionary Multitasking with Bi-Channel Knowledge Sharing Mechanism

Multi-view point cloud registration is fundamental in 3D reconstruction. Since there are close connections between point clouds captured from different viewpoints, registration performance can be enhanced if these connections be harnessed properly. Therefore, this paper models the registration problem as multi-task optimization, and proposes a novel bi-channel knowledge sharing mechanism for effective and efficient problem solving. The modeling of multi-view point cloud registration as multi-task optimization are twofold. By simultaneously considering the local accuracy of two point clouds as well as the global consistency posed by all the point clouds involved, a fitness function with an adaptive threshold is derived. Also a framework of the co-evolutionary search process is defined for the concurrent optimization of multiple fitness functions belonging to related tasks. To enhance solution quality and convergence speed, the proposed bi-channel knowledge sharing mechanism plays its role. The intra-task knowledge sharing introduces aiding tasks that are much simpler to solve, and useful information is shared across aiding tasks and the original tasks, accelerating the search process. The inter-task knowledge sharing explores commonalities buried among the original tasks, aiming to prevent tasks from getting stuck to local optima. Comprehensive experiments conducted on model object as well as scene point clouds show the efficacy of the proposed method.

A new upper bound and optimal constructions of equi-difference conflict-avoiding codes on constant weight

Conflict-avoiding codes (CACs) have been used in multiple-access collision channel without feedback. The size of a CAC is the number of potential users that can be supported in the system. A code with maximum size is called optimal. The use of an optimal CAC enables the largest possible number of asynchronous users to transmit information efficiently and reliably. In this paper, a new upper bound on the maximum size of arbitrary equi-difference CAC is presented. Furthermore, three optimal constructions of equi-difference CACs are also given. One is a generalized construction for prime length $L=p$ and the other two are for two-prime length $L=pq$.

Optimal Ternary Linear Complementary Dual Codes

Linear complementary dual (LCD) codes introduced by Massey are the codes whose intersections with their dual codes are trivial. It can help to improve the security of the information processed by sensitive devices, especially against side-channel attacks (SCA) and fault invasive attacks. In this paper, By construction of puncturing, extending, shortening and combination codes, many good ternary LCD codes are presented. We give a Table 1 with the values of $d_{LCD}(n,k)$ for length $ n \leq 20$. In addition, Many of these ternary LCD codes given in this paper are optimal which are saturating the lower or upper bound of Grassl's codetable in \cite{Grassl} and some of them are nearly optimal.

Two families of Entanglement-assisted Quantum MDS Codes from cyclic Codes

With entanglement-assisted (EA) formalism, arbitrary classical linear codes are allowed to transform into EAQECCs by using pre-shared entanglement between the sender and the receiver. In this paper, based on classical cyclic MDS codes by exploiting pre-shared maximally entangled states, we construct two families of $q$-ary entanglement-assisted quantum MDS codes $[[\frac{q^{2}+1}{a},\frac{q^{2}+1}{a}-2(d-1)+c,d;c]]$, where q is a prime power in the form of $am+l$, and $a=(l^2+1)$ or $a=\frac{(l^2+1)}{5}$. We show that all of $q$-ary EAQMDS have minimum distance upper limit much larger than the known quantum MDS (QMDS) codes of the same length. Most of these $q$-ary EAQMDS codes are new in the sense that their parameters are not covered by the codes available in the literature.

A Light-Weighted Convolutional Neural Network for Bitemporal SAR Image Change Detection

Recently, many Convolution Neural Networks (CNN) have been successfully employed in bitemporal SAR image change detection. However, most of the existing networks are too heavy and occupy a large volume of memory for storage and calculation. Motivated by this, in this paper, we propose a lightweight neural network to reduce the computational and spatial complexity and facilitate the change detection on an edge device. In the proposed network, we replace normal convolutional layers with bottleneck layers that keep the same number of channels between input and output. Next, we employ dilated convolutional kernels with a few non-zero entries that reduce the running time in convolutional operators. Comparing with the conventional convolutional neural network, our light-weighted neural network will be more efficient with fewer parameters. We verify our light-weighted neural network on four sets of bitemporal SAR images. The experimental results show that the proposed network can obtain better performance than the conventional CNN and has better model generalization, especially on the challenging datasets with complex scenes.

Two families of Entanglement-assisted quantum MDS codes from constacyclic codes

Entanglement-assisted quantum error correcting codes (EAQECCs) can be derived from arbitrary classical linear codes. However, it is a very difficult task to determine the number of entangled states required. In this work, using the method of the decomposition of the defining set of constacyclic codes, we construct two families of q-ary entanglement-assisted quantum MDS (EAQMDS) codes based on classical constacyclic MDS codes by exploiting less pre-shared maximally entangled states. We show that a class of q-ary EAQMDS have minimum distance upper bound greater than q. Some of them have much larger minimum distance than the known quantum MDS (QMDS) codes of the same length. Most of these q-ary EAQMDS codes are new in the sense that their parameters are not covered by the codes available in the literature.

Multi-party quantum privacy comparison of size based on d-level GHZ states

Quantum privacy comparison(QPC) plays an important role in secret ballot elections, private auctions and so on. To date, many multi-party QPC(MQPC) protocols have been proposed to compare the equality of $k(k\geq 3)$ participants. However, there are few examples of MQPC used to compare the sizes or values of their privacies. In this paper, we propose a MQPC protocol by which any $k(k\geq 3)$ participants can compare the sizes of their privacies with executing the protocol just once. The proposed MQPC protocol takes the $d-level$ GHZ states as quantum resources, and a semi-honest $TP$ is introduced to help the participants to determine the relationship of their privacies. Further more, only single-particle unitary transformations and measurements are involved, and the participants need not to share common secrets with each other beforehand which makes the proposed protocol much more efficient. Analysis shows that our protocol is secure against internal and external attack in theory.

Further Investigation on Classical Multiparty computation using Quantum Resources

The tremendous development of cloud computing and network technology makes it possible for multiple people with limited resources to complete a large-scale computing with the help of cloud servers. In order to protect the privacy of clients, secure multiparty computation plays an important role in the process of computing. Recently, Clementi et al[\textcolor[rgb]{0.00,0.07,1.00}{Phys. Rev. A {\bf 96}, 062317(2017)}] proposed a secure multiparty computation protocol using quantum resources. In their protocol, utilizing only linear classical computing and limited manipulation of quantum information, a method of computing $n-variable$ symmetric Boolean function $f(x_1, x_2, \cdots, x_n)$ with degree 2 is proposed, and all clients can jointly compute $f(x_1, x_2, \cdots, x_n)$ without revealing their private inputs with the help of a sever. They proposed an open problem: are there more simple nonlinear functions like the one presented by them that can be used as subroutines for larger computation protocols? We will give the answer to this question in this paper. Inspired by Clementi et al's work, we continue to explore the quantum realization of Boolean functions. First, we demonstrate a way to compute a class of $n-variable$ symmetric Boolean function $f_n^k$ by using single-particle quantum state $|0\rangle$ and single-particle unitary operations $U_k$. Second, we show that each $n-variable$ symmetric Boolean function can be represented by the linear combination of $f_n^k(k=0,1,\cdots,n)$ and each function $f_n^k(2\leq k\leq n)$ can be used to perform secure multiparty computation. Third, we propose an universal quantum implementation method for arbitrary $n-variable$ symmetric Boolean function $f(x_1, x_2, \cdots, x_n)$. Finally, we demonstrate our secure multiparty computation protocol on IBM quantum cloud platform.
