CAP-CoT: Cycle Adversarial Prompt for Improving Chain of Thoughts in LLM Reasoning

Chain-of-Thought (CoT) prompting has emerged as a simple and effective way to elicit step-by-step solutions from large language models (LLMs). However, CoT reasoning can be unstable across runs on long, multi-step problems, leading to inconsistent answers for unchanged task. Most prior work focuses on improving the forward reasoning chain within a single pass, with less attention to iterative and contrastive correction. To address this gap, we propose CAP-CoT, a Cycle Adversarial Prompt optimization framework designed to improve both CoT reasoning accuracy and stability of a single deployed solver. In each cycle, a forward solver generates candidate reasoning chains, an adversarial challenger constructs plausible but deliberately flawed chains using targeted error strategies, and a feedback agent contrasts the two chains and produces step-aligned structured feedback. This feedback closes the optimization loop in two directions, including updating the solver prompt based on errors exposed by the challenger, and updating the challenger prompt to generate increasingly targeted errors in subsequent cycles. Unlike safety-oriented adversarial prompting such as jailbreak or prompt-injection attacks, our adversarial component is task-semantic and aims to expose logical vulnerabilities in reasoning chains. Experiments across six benchmarks and four LLM backbones demonstrate that within two to three adversarial prompt optimization cycles, CAP-CoT consistently reduces variability across runs while improving reasoning accuracy and robustness to prompt perturbations.

A New Low-Rank Tensor Model for Video Completion

In this paper, we propose a new low-rank tensor model based on the circulant algebra, namely, twist tensor nuclear norm or t-TNN for short. The twist tensor denotes a 3-way tensor representation to laterally store 2D data slices in order. On one hand, t-TNN convexly relaxes the tensor multi-rank of the twist tensor in the Fourier domain, which allows an efficient computation using FFT. On the other, t-TNN is equal to the nuclear norm of block circulant matricization of the twist tensor in the original domain, which extends the traditional matrix nuclear norm in a block circulant way. We test the t-TNN model on a video completion application that aims to fill missing values and the experiment results validate its effectiveness, especially when dealing with video recorded by a non-stationary panning camera. The block circulant matricization of the twist tensor can be transformed into a circulant block representation with nuclear norm invariance. This representation, after transformation, exploits the horizontal translation relationship between the frames in a video, and endows the t-TNN model with a more powerful ability to reconstruct panning videos than the existing state-of-the-art low-rank models.

Distortion-driven Turbulence Effect Removal using Variational Model

It remains a challenge to simultaneously remove geometric distortion and space-time-varying blur in frames captured through a turbulent atmospheric medium. To solve, or at least reduce these effects, we propose a new scheme to recover a latent image from observed frames by integrating a new variational model and distortion-driven spatial-temporal kernel regression. The proposed scheme first constructs a high-quality reference image from the observed frames using low-rank decomposition. Then, to generate an improved registered sequence, the reference image is iteratively optimized using a variational model containing a new spatial-temporal regularization. The proposed fast algorithm efficiently solves this model without the use of partial differential equations (PDEs). Next, to reduce blur variation, distortion-driven spatial-temporal kernel regression is carried out to fuse the registered sequence into one image by introducing the concept of the near-stationary patch. Applying a blind deconvolution algorithm to the fused image produces the final output. Extensive experimental testing shows, both qualitatively and quantitatively, that the proposed method can effectively alleviate distortion and blur and recover details of the original scene compared to state-of-the-art methods.

Transient behavior of the thermocapillary migration of drops under the influence of deformation

The transient thermocapillary migration of drops with nontrivial deformation is studied. The finite difference method is employed to solve the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations coupled with the energy equation; the front-tracking method is adopted to track the moving deformable drop interface. In the hot region, deformations of drops increase with the decrease of interfacial tensions. In order to indicate the temperature impact on the interfacial tension, a local capillary number ($Ca_l$) is introduced. It is found that, when the drop density is smaller/larger than that of the bulk fluid, the drop velocity decreases/increases with the increase of the drop deformation.

Thermocapillary migration and interactions of two nondeformable droplets

A numerical study on interactions of two spherical drops in thermocapillary migration in microgravity is presented. Finite-difference methods were adopted and the interfaces of drops were captured by the front-tracking technique. It is found that the arrangement of drops directly influences their migrations and interaction, and that the motion of one drop is mainly determined by the disturbed temperature field because of the existence of the other drop.
