Domain Knowledge Based Temporal-Spatial Graph Convolution Network for ECG Recognition

In light of strides in Arti cial Intelligence (AI) and its wide spread application, challenges persist in the interpretability of AI models, particularly within specialized domains like healthcare, such as electro cardiograph (ECG) recognition. Rather than relying solely on end-to-end convolutional neural networks, this paper introduces a novel approach using a domain knowledge-based graph convolution network for ECG recognition. Key landmarks points of PRQST, vital to ECG interpreta tion, are incorporated as domain knowledge. The double-stream directed graph is employed to model both intra and inter ECG cycles. Speci cally, spatial directed graphs capture the positional relationships among key points, while temporal directed graphs delineate temporal dependencies between adjacent cycles in extended ECG sequences. Experimental re sults on the First Chinese ECG Intelligent Competition dataset, which speci cally classify ECG into nine categories, prove the e cacy of the proposed model. The overall average F1 score is 88.1%, the average F1 score of rare categories is 76.3%, both outperform the state-of-the-art models. The introduction of domain knowledge did enhance the detec tion performance, especially for rare categories.

Enhanced Equivalent Circuit Model for High Current Discharge of Lithium-Ion Batteries with Application to Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing Aircraft

Conventional battery equivalent circuit models (ECMs) have limited capability to predict performance at high discharge rates, where lithium depleted regions may develop and cause a sudden exponential drop in the cell's terminal voltage. Having accurate predictions of performance under such conditions is necessary for electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft applications, where high discharge currents can be required during fault scenarios and the inability to provide these currents can be safety-critical. To address this challenge, we utilize data-driven modeling methods to derive a parsimonious addition to a conventional ECM that can capture the observed rapid voltage drop with only one additional state. We also provide a detailed method for identifying the resulting model parameters, including an extensive characterization data set along with a well-regularized objective function formulation. The model is validated against a novel data set of over 150 flights encompassing a wide array of conditions for an eVTOL aircraft using an application-specific and safety-relevant reserve duration metric for quantifying accuracy. The model is shown to predict the landing hover capability with an error mean and standard deviation of 2.9 and 6.2 seconds, respectively, defining the model's ability to capture the cell voltage behavior under high discharge currents.

A Data-driven Nonlinear Recharge Controller for Energy Storage in Frequency Regulation

Battery energy storage boosts up the response speed of power system frequency regulation, but must be recharged carefully to minimize the distortion to the frequency regulation response. This paper proposes a nonlinear feedback controller to optimize the recharge for storage resources in frequency regulation. This controller is designed using a data-driven best-hindsight optimization framework, the resulting nonlinear recharge controller's gain depends on the storage state of charge as well as its power and energy rating. The developed controller is compared with two benchmark automatic generation control designs, one is a proportional-integral-based control from PJM Interconnection, the other one is based on linear-quadratic regulator. Simulation results using real area control error data from PJM Interconnection show the proposed controller achieves smaller deviations in both the area control error and the storage state of charge compared to the two benchmark controllers under various storage configurations.
