Unbiased Multimodal Reranking for Long-Tail Short-Video Search

Kuaishou serving hundreds of millions of searches daily, the quality of short-video search is paramount. However, it suffers from a severe Matthew effect on long-tail queries: sparse user behavior data causes models to amplify low-quality content such as clickbait and shallow content. The recent advancements in Large Language Models (LLMs) offer a new paradigm, as their inherent world knowledge provides a powerful mechanism to assess content quality, agnostic to sparse user interactions. To this end, we propose a LLM-driven multimodal reranking framework, which estimates user experience without real user behavior. The approach involves a two-stage training process: the first stage uses multimodal evidence to construct high-quality annotations for supervised fine-tuning, while the second stage incorporates pairwise preference optimization to help the model learn partial orderings among candidates. At inference time, the resulting experience scores are used to promote high-quality but underexposed videos in reranking, and further guide page-level optimization through reinforcement learning. Experiments show that the proposed method achieves consistent improvements over strong baselines in offline metrics including AUC, NDCG@K, and human preference judgement. An online A/B test covering 15\% of traffic further demonstrates gains in both user experience and consumption metrics, confirming the practical value of the approach in long-tail video search scenarios.

Rhythms of Recovery: Patient-Centered Virtual Reality Exergame for Physical Rehabilitation in the Intensive Care Unit

Early mobilization is a structured protocol designed to facilitate motor recovery in intensive care unit (ICU) patients with ICU-acquired weakness. This process is typically implemented by an interdisciplinary team of nurses, physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals. However, its application is often constrained by the patients' critical conditions, limited mobility, and the challenges of coordinating care within resource-intensive ICU environments. In this study, we developed a patient-centered virtual reality (VR) exergame through an interdisciplinary design process involving clinicians and therapists, tailored to the constraints of critical care. The exergame incorporates progressive mobility levels that mirror early mobilization practices, and includes an embodied avatar to provide guidance and motivation. Using Meta Quest 3 body tracking, the system captures and visualizes patients' movements, thereby providing motivational engagement and quantifiable mobility metrics. We evaluated the exergame in two stages: a dual-user study involving healthy participants and healthcare professionals or students (N = 13), and a subsequent study with cardiothoracic ICU patients (N = 18) to assess feasibility, design validity, and clinical acceptance. Across both studies, participants reported high enjoyment and engagement without discomfort or stress. Furthermore, patients demonstrated increases in movement speed, range of motion, and workspace volume of the upper body across game levels. Physiological monitoring further indicated that the exergame elicited exertion without inducing excessive cardiovascular responses. These findings highlight the feasibility of VR exergames as a clinically acceptable and engaging adjunct to early mobilization in critical care, offering a novel pathway to improve rehabilitation outcomes for ICU patients.

CT-Agent: A Multimodal-LLM Agent for 3D CT Radiology Question Answering

Computed Tomography (CT) scan, which produces 3D volumetric medical data that can be viewed as hundreds of cross-sectional images (a.k.a. slices), provides detailed anatomical information for diagnosis. For radiologists, creating CT radiology reports is time-consuming and error-prone. A visual question answering (VQA) system that can answer radiologists' questions about some anatomical regions on the CT scan and even automatically generate a radiology report is urgently needed. However, existing VQA systems cannot adequately handle the CT radiology question answering (CTQA) task for: (1) anatomic complexity makes CT images difficult to understand; (2) spatial relationship across hundreds slices is difficult to capture. To address these issues, this paper proposes CT-Agent, a multimodal agentic framework for CTQA. CT-Agent adopts anatomically independent tools to break down the anatomic complexity; furthermore, it efficiently captures the across-slice spatial relationship with a global-local token compression strategy. Experimental results on two 3D chest CT datasets, CT-RATE and RadGenome-ChestCT, verify the superior performance of CT-Agent.

DAgent: A Relational Database-Driven Data Analysis Report Generation Agent

Relational database-driven data analysis (RDB-DA) report generation, which aims to generate data analysis reports after querying relational databases, has been widely applied in fields such as finance and healthcare. Typically, these tasks are manually completed by data scientists, making the process very labor-intensive and showing a clear need for automation. Although existing methods (e.g., Table QA or Text-to-SQL) have been proposed to reduce human dependency, they cannot handle complex analytical tasks that require multi-step reasoning, cross-table associations, and synthesizing insights into reports. Moreover, there is no dataset available for developing automatic RDB-DA report generation. To fill this gap, this paper proposes an LLM agent system for RDB-DA report generation tasks, dubbed DAgent; moreover, we construct a benchmark for automatic data analysis report generation, which includes a new dataset DA-Dataset and evaluation metrics. DAgent integrates planning, tools, and memory modules to decompose natural language questions into logically independent sub-queries, accurately retrieve key information from relational databases, and generate analytical reports that meet the requirements of completeness, correctness, and conciseness through multi-step reasoning and effective data integration. Experimental analysis on the DA-Dataset demonstrates that DAgent's superiority in retrieval performance and analysis report generation quality, showcasing its strong potential for tackling complex database analysis report generation tasks.

A Survey on LoRA of Large Language Models

Low-Rank Adaptation~(LoRA), which updates the dense neural network layers with pluggable low-rank matrices, is one of the best performed parameter efficient fine-tuning paradigms. Furthermore, it has significant advantages in cross-task generalization and privacy-preserving. Hence, LoRA has gained much attention recently, and the number of related literature demonstrates exponential growth. It is necessary to conduct a comprehensive overview of the current progress on LoRA. This survey categorizes and reviews the progress from the perspectives of (1) downstream adaptation improving variants that improve LoRA's performance on downstream tasks; (2) cross-task generalization methods that mix multiple LoRA plugins to achieve cross-task generalization; (3) efficiency-improving methods that boost the computation-efficiency of LoRA; (4) data privacy-preserving methods that use LoRA in federated learning; (5) application. Besides, this survey also discusses the future directions in this field. At last, we provide a Github page~\footnote{\href{https://github.com/ZJU-LLMs/Awesome-LoRAs.git}{https://github.com/ZJU-LLMs/Awesome-LoRAs.git}} for readers to check the updates and initiate discussions on this survey paper.

FIT-RAG: Black-Box RAG with Factual Information and Token Reduction

Due to the extraordinarily large number of parameters, fine-tuning Large Language Models (LLMs) to update long-tail or out-of-date knowledge is impractical in lots of applications. To avoid fine-tuning, we can alternatively treat a LLM as a black-box (i.e., freeze the parameters of the LLM) and augment it with a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) system, namely black-box RAG. Recently, black-box RAG has achieved success in knowledge-intensive tasks and has gained much attention. Existing black-box RAG methods typically fine-tune the retriever to cater to LLMs' preferences and concatenate all the retrieved documents as the input, which suffers from two issues: (1) Ignorance of Factual Information. The LLM preferred documents may not contain the factual information for the given question, which can mislead the retriever and hurt the effectiveness of black-box RAG; (2) Waste of Tokens. Simply concatenating all the retrieved documents brings large amounts of unnecessary tokens for LLMs, which degenerates the efficiency of black-box RAG. To address these issues, this paper proposes a novel black-box RAG framework which utilizes the factual information in the retrieval and reduces the number of tokens for augmentation, dubbed FIT-RAG. FIT-RAG utilizes the factual information by constructing a bi-label document scorer. Besides, it reduces the tokens by introducing a self-knowledge recognizer and a sub-document-level token reducer. FIT-RAG achieves both superior effectiveness and efficiency, which is validated by extensive experiments across three open-domain question-answering datasets: TriviaQA, NQ and PopQA. FIT-RAG can improve the answering accuracy of Llama2-13B-Chat by 14.3\% on TriviaQA, 19.9\% on NQ and 27.5\% on PopQA, respectively. Furthermore, it can save approximately half of the tokens on average across the three datasets.

Theoretical and experimental study of attenuation in cancellous bone

Photoacoustic (PA) technology can provide information on both the physical structure and chemical composition of bone, showing great potential in bone assessment. However, due to the complex composition and porous structure of cancellous bone, the PA signals generated and propagated in cancellous bone are complex and difficult to be directly used in cancellous bone analysis. In this paper, a photoacoustic differential attenuation spectrum (PA-DAS) method is proposed. By eliminating the PA spectrum of the optical absorption sources, the propagation attenuation characteristics of cancellous bone are studied theoretically and experimentally. An analytical solution for the propagation attenuation of broadband ultrasound waves in cancellous bone is given by applying high-frequency and viscous corrections to Biot's theory. An experimental system of PA-DAS with an eccentric excitation differential detection system is established to obtain the PA-DAS of cancellous bone and its acoustic propagation characteristic on the rabbit osteoporosis model. The PA-DAS quantization parameter slope is further extracted to quantify the attenuation of high and low frequency components. The results show that the PA-DAS can distinguish osteoporotic bone from normal bone, enabling quantitative assessment of bone mineral density and the diagnosis of osteoporosis.

Deep learning-based photoacoustic imaging of vascular network through thick porous media

Photoacoustic imaging (PAI) is a promising approach to realize in vivo transcranial cerebral vascular imaging. However, the strong attenuation and distortion of the photoacoustic wave caused by the thick porous skull greatly affect the imaging quality. In this study, we designed a convolutional neural network (CNN) with a U-Net architecture to extract the effective photoacoustic information hidden in the speckle patterns; obtained vascular network images datasets under porous media through simulation and experiment, and trained the network weights respectively. The results show that the proposed neural network can learn the mapping relationship between the speckle pattern and the target; extract the photoacoustic signals of some vessels submerged in noise to reconstruct high-quality images with a sharp outline of the vessel and clean background. Compared with the traditional photoacoustic reconstruction method, the deep learning-based reconstruction algorithms can achieve better performance, the mean absolute error (MAE), Structural SIMilarity (SSIM) and peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) of reconstructed images have been greatly improved. In conclusion, the proposed neural network can effectively extract valid information from highly blurred speckle patterns for the rapid reconstruction of target images, which offers promising applications in transcranial photoacoustic imaging.
