The Realistic Scattering of Puffy Dark Matter

If dark matter has a finite size, the intrinsic interaction responsible for the structure formation is inevitable from the perspective of dark matter self-scattering. To describe the circumstance in which the binding force realizes the finite size dark protons, we first use the Eikonal approximation to simplify the convoluted scattering between dark protons into the case at the $t=0$ limit. The Chou-Yang model is then introduced to reduce the number of input parameters to one based on the simplicity and analyticity principle. A new definition of velocity dependence and the corresponding implications on the small cosmological structures from Chou-Yang dark protons are shown clearly. Even though the parameter space is not fully covered, the numerical findings show that the amplitude coefficient can alter the self-scattering cross-section, allowing us to recover the excluded parameter space without using binding force. Finally, we demonstrate that the correct relic density from thermal freeze-out production prefers super heavy dark protons.

New Physics in $b\to s\ell\ell$ anomalies and its implications for the complementary neutral current decays

We study the Standard Model and the new physics predictions for the lepton-flavour-universality violating (LFUV) ratios in various $b\to s \ell^+\ell^-$ channels with scalar, pseudoscalar, vector, axial-vector, and $Λ$ baryon final states, considering both unpolarized and polarized final state hadrons. In order to formulate physical observables, we use the model independent effective Hamiltonian approach and employ the helicity formalism. We provide the explicit expressions of the helicity amplitudes in terms of the Wilson coefficients and the hadronic form factors by using the same kinematical configuration and polarization conventions for all the decay channels. We perform the numerical analysis with new physics scenarios selected from the recent global fits to $b\to s\ell^+\ell^-$ data, having specific new physics model interpretations. We find that some of the LFUV ratios for these complementary channels in different kinematical regions have high sensitivity to new physics and the future measurements of them in Belle II and LHCb experiments, along with testing new physics/LFUV, can help to distinguish among some of the different new physics possibilities.

EdgeMatrix: A Resources Redefined Edge-Cloud System for Prioritized Services

The edge-cloud system has the potential to combine the advantages of heterogeneous devices and truly realize ubiquitous computing. However, for service providers to guarantee the Service-Level-Agreement (SLA) priorities, the complex networked environment brings inherent challenges such as multi-resource heterogeneity, resource competition, and networked system dynamics. In this paper, we design a framework for the edge-cloud system, namely EdgeMatrix, to maximize the throughput while guaranteeing various SLA priorities. First, EdgeMatrix introduces Networked Multi-agent Actor-Critic (NMAC) algorithm to redefine physical resources as logically isolated resource combinations, i.e., resource cells. Then, we use a clustering algorithm to group the cells with similar characteristics into various sets, i.e., resource channels, for different channels can offer different SLA guarantees. Besides, we design a multi-task mechanism to solve the problem of joint service orchestration and request dispatch (JSORD) among edge-cloud clusters, significantly reducing the runtime than traditional methods. To ensure stability, EdgeMatrix adopts a two-time-scale framework, i.e., coordinating resources and services at the large time scale and dispatching requests at the small time scale. The real trace-based experimental results verify that EdgeMatrix can improve system throughput in complex networked environments, reduce SLA violations, and significantly reduce the runtime than traditional methods.

Low energy supersymmetry confronted with current experiments: an overview

This study provides a brief overview of low-energy supersymmetry (SUSY) in light of current experimental constraints, such as collider searches, dark matter searches, and muon $g-2$ measurements. In addition, we survey a variety of low energy supersymmetric models: the phenomenological minimal supersymmetric model (MSSM); the supersymmetric models with cut-off-scale boundary conditions, i.e., the minimal supergravity (mSUGRA) or the constrained MSSM (CMSSM), the gauge mediation of SUSY breaking (GMSB), and the anomaly mediation of SUSY breaking (AMSB), as well as their extensions. The conclusion is that the low energy SUSY can survive all current experimental constraints and remains compelling, albeit suffering from a little fine-tuning problem. The fancy models like mSUGRA, GMSB, and AMSB need to be extended if the muon $g-2$ anomaly comes from new physics.

Direct Detection of Spin-Dependent Sub-GeV Dark Matter via Migdal Effect

Motivated by the current strong constraints on the spin-independent dark matter (DM)-nucleus scattering, we investigate the spin-dependent (SD) interactions of the light Majorana DM with the nucleus mediated by an axial-vector boson. Due to the small nucleus recoil energy, the ionization signals have now been used to probe the light dark matter particles in direct detection experiments. With the existing ionization data, we derive the exclusion limits on the SD DM-nucleus scattering through Migdal effect in the MeV-GeV DM mass range. It is found that the lower limit of the DM mass can reach about several MeVs. Due to the momentum transfer correction induced by the light mediator, the bounds on the SD DM-nucleus scattering cross sections can be weakened in comparison with the heavy mediator.

Room-temperature continuous-wave upconversion white microlaser in a rare-earth doped microcavity

White laser covering the visible color spectrum is critical in various applications including vivid display, holographic imaging and light-based version of Wi-Fi, but it is still challenging to realize the white microlaser due to the rigorous requirement in the balance between the optical gain and the feedback at different wavelengths. Here, we employ Tm, Er and Yb ions corporately for the upconversion white lasing in a single ultrahigh quality (Q) (up to 108) doped microcavity, where the thresholds of the red, green and blue lasers are about 90, 500 and 300 μW, respectively. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first rare-earth elements based room-temperature, continuous-wave white microlaser, which exhibits relatively stable chromaticity over 180 minutes, making it possible for practical applications.

VET: Identifying and Avoiding UI Exploration Tarpits

Despite over a decade of research, it is still challenging for mobile UI testing tools to achieve satisfactory effectiveness, especially on industrial apps with rich features and large code bases. Our experiences suggest that existing mobile UI testing tools are prone to exploration tarpits, where the tools get stuck with a small fraction of app functionalities for an extensive amount of time. For example, a tool logs out an app at early stages without being able to log back in, and since then the tool gets stuck with exploring the app's pre-login functionalities (i.e., exploration tarpits) instead of its main functionalities. While tool vendors/users can manually hardcode rules for the tools to avoid specific exploration tarpits, these rules can hardly generalize, being fragile in face of diverted testing environments and fast app iterations. To identify and resolve exploration tarpits, we propose VET, a general approach including a supporting system for the given specific Android UI testing tool on the given specific app under test (AUT). VET runs the tool on the AUT for some time and records UI traces, based on which VET identifies exploration tarpits by recognizing their patterns in the UI traces. VET then pinpoints the actions (e.g., clicking logout) or the screens that lead to or exhibit exploration tarpits. In subsequent test runs, VET guides the testing tool to prevent or recover from exploration tarpits. From our evaluation with state-of-the-art Android UI testing tools on popular industrial apps, VET identifies exploration tarpits that cost up to 98.6% testing time budget. These exploration tarpits reveal not only limitations in UI exploration strategies but also defects in tool implementations. VET automatically addresses the identified exploration tarpits, enabling each evaluated tool to achieve higher code coverage and improve crash-triggering capabilities.

Estimate Three-Phase Distribution Line Parameters With Physics-Informed Graphical Learning Method

Accurate estimates of network parameters are essential for modeling, monitoring, and control in power distribution systems. In this paper, we develop a physics-informed graphical learning algorithm to estimate network parameters of three-phase power distribution systems. Our proposed algorithm uses only readily available smart meter data to estimate the three-phase series resistance and reactance of the primary distribution line segments. We first develop a parametric physics-based model to replace the black-box deep neural networks in the conventional graphical neural network (GNN). Then we derive the gradient of the loss function with respect to the network parameters and use stochastic gradient descent (SGD) to estimate the physical parameters. Prior knowledge of network parameters is also considered to further improve the accuracy of estimation. Comprehensive numerical study results show that our proposed algorithm yields high accuracy and outperforms existing methods.

Atmospheric Dark Matter and Xenon1T Excess

Very recently, the Xenon1T collaboration has reported an intriguing electron recoil excess, which may imply for light dark matter. In order to interpret this anomaly, we propose the atmospheric dark matter (ADM) from the inelastic collision of cosmic rays (CRs) with the atmosphere. Due to the boost effect of high energy CRs, we show that the light ADM can be fast-moving and successfully fit the observed electron recoil spectrum through the ADM-electron scattering process. Meanwhile, our ADM predicts the scattering cross section $σ_e \sim {\cal O}(10^{-38}- 10^{-39}$) cm$^{2}$, and thus can evade other direct detection constraints. The search for light meson rare decays, such as $η\to π+ \slashed E_T$, would provide a complementary probe of our ADM in the future.

Cosmic Ray Boosted Sub-GeV Gravitationally Interacting Dark Matter in Direct Detection

Detections of non-gravitational interactions of massive dark matter (DM) with visible sector so far have given null results. The DM may communicate with the ordinary matter only through gravitational interaction. Besides, the majority of traditional direct detections have poor sensitivities for light DM because of the small recoil energy. Thanks to the high energy cosmic rays (CRs), the light DM can be boosted by scattering with CRs and thus may be detected in the ongoing experiments. In this work, we derive the exclusion limits on the cosmic ray boosted sub-GeV DM with gravitational mediator from the Xenon1T data. It turns out that a sizable region of such a cosmic ray boosted DM can be excluded by the current data.

Top Rare Decays t-> cV in the Mirror Twin Higgs Models

The decay t -> c V (V=γ, Z, g) process in the mirror twin Higgs models with the colorless top partners are studied in this paper. We found that the branching ratios of these decays can in some parameter spaces alter the standard model expectations greatly and may be detectable according to the currently precision electroweak measurements. Thus, the constraints on the model parameters may be obtained from the branching fraction of the decay processes, which may serve as a robust detection to this new physics model.

PandaX limits on light dark matter with light mediator in the singlet extension of MSSM

Using the latest PandaX limits on light dark matter (DM) with light mediator, we check the implication on the parameter space of the general singlet extension of MSSM (without $Z_3$ symmetry), which can have a sizable DM self-interaction to solve the small-scale structure problem. We find that the PandaX limits can stringently constrain such a paramter space, depending on the coupling $λ$ between the singlet and doublet Higgs fields. For the singlet extension of MSSM with $Z_3$ symmetry, the so-called NMSSM, we also demonstrate the PandaX constraints on its parameter space which gives a light DM with correct relic density but without sufficient self-interaction to solve the small-scale structure problem. We find that in this NMSSM the GeV dark matter with a sub-GeV mediator has been stringently constrained.

Prediction of 5-hydroxytryptamine Transporter Inhibitor based on Machine Learning

In patients with depression, the use of 5-HT reuptake inhibitors can improve the condition. Topological fingerprints, ECFP4, and molecular descriptors were used. Some SERT and small molecules combined prediction models were established by using 5 machine learning methods. We selected the higher accuracy models(RF, SVM, LR) in five-fold cross-validation of training set to establish an integrated model (VOL_CLF). The training set is from Chembl database and oversampled by SMOTE algorithm to eliminate data imbalance. The unbalanced data from same sources (Chembl) was used as Test set 1; the unbalanced data with different sources(Drugbank) was used as Test set 2 . The prediction accuracy of SERT inhibitors in Test set 1 was 90.7%~93.3%(VOL_CLF method was the highest); the inhibitory recall rate was 84.6%-90.1%(RF method was the highest); the non-inhibitor prediction accuracy rate was 76.1%~80.2%(RF method is the highest); the non-inhibitor predictive recall rate is 81.2%~87.5% (SVM and VOL_CLF methods were the highest) The RF model in Test Set 2 performed better than the other models. The SERT inhibitor predicted accuracy rate, recall rate, non-inhibitor predicted accuracy rate, recall rate were 42.9%, 85.7%, 95.7%, 73.3%.This study demonstrates that machine learning methods effectively predict inhibitors of serotonin transporters and accelerate drug screening.

Maximum Marginal Likelihood Estimation of Phase Connections in Power Distribution Systems

Accurate phase connectivity information is essential for advanced monitoring and control applications in power distribution systems. The existing data-driven approaches for phase identification lack precise physical interpretation and theoretical performance guarantee. Their performance generally deteriorates as the complexity of the network, the number of phase connections, and the level of load balance increase. In this paper, by linearizing the three-phase power flow manifold, we develop a physical model, which links the phase connections to the smart meter measurements. The phase identification problem is first formulated as a maximum likelihood estimation problem and then reformulated as a maximum marginal likelihood estimation problem. We prove that the correct phase connection achieves the highest log likelihood values for both problems. An efficient solution method is proposed by decomposing the original problem into subproblems with a binary least-squares formulation. The numerical tests on a comprehensive set of distribution circuits show that our proposed method yields very high accuracy on both radial and meshed distribution circuits with a combination of single-phase, two-phase, and three-phase loads. The proposed algorithm is robust with respect to inaccurate feeder models and incomplete measurements. It also outperforms the existing methods on complex circuits.

NMSSM with generalized deflected mirage mediation

We propose to generate a realistic soft SUSY breaking spectrum for Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (NMSSM) with a generalized deflected mirage mediation scenario, in which additional Yukawa and gauge mediation contributions are included to deflect the renormalization group equation(RGE) trajectory. Based on the Wilsonian effective action obtained by integrating out the messengers, the NMSSM soft SUSY breaking spectrum can be given analytically at the messenger scale. We find that additional contributions to $m_S^2$ can possibly ameliorate the stringent constraints from the electroweak symmetry breaking (EWSB) and 125 GeV Higgs mass. Constraints from dark matter and fine-tuning are also discussed. The Barbieri-Giudice fine-tuning measure and electroweak fine-tuning measure in our scenario can be as low as ${\cal O}(1)$, which possibly indicates that our scenario is natural.

Interference of Electromagnetic waves in the background of the gravitational waves

Based on the relationship between proper distance and coordinate distance, the geometrical phenomenon caused by the passing gravitational waves can not be observed locally. The electromagnetic wave equations in the background gravitational waves are studied. We find that the expansion and contraction of wave lengths are always synchronous with the objects it measures. The background of the gravitational waves leads to dissipation and dispersion in the propagation of electromagnetic wave. The phase of the gravitational waves control the dissipation term and dispersion term in the telegrapher's equation. The linearly polarized laser beam propagating in the direction of the incoming gravitational waves can give a possible measurement on the local metric. In case of the pulsed beats passing by, the relaxation time is greater than the period of the gravitational waves, thus the detector may only show a signal of the modulation of the beats. Finally we proposed a non-local interference experiment to detect the high-frequency gravitational waves. It is similar to the measurement of redshift caused by gravitation. Together with the ordinary detector, it will give us further and mutually measurements of the gravitational waves.

Testing Untestable Neural Machine Translation: An Industrial Case

Neural Machine Translation (NMT) has been widely adopted recently due to its advantages compared with the traditional Statistical Machine Translation (SMT). However, an NMT system still often produces translation failures due to the complexity of natural language and sophistication in designing neural networks. While in-house black-box system testing based on reference translations (i.e., examples of valid translations) has been a common practice for NMT quality assurance, an increasingly critical industrial practice, named in-vivo testing, exposes unseen types or instances of translation failures when real users are using a deployed industrial NMT system. To fill the gap of lacking test oracle for in-vivo testing of an NMT system, in this paper, we propose a new approach for automatically identifying translation failures, without requiring reference translations for a translation task; our approach can directly serve as a test oracle for in-vivo testing. Our approach focuses on properties of natural language translation that can be checked systematically and uses information from both the test inputs (i.e., the texts to be translated) and the test outputs (i.e., the translations under inspection) of the NMT system. Our evaluation conducted on real-world datasets shows that our approach can effectively detect targeted property violations as translation failures. Our experiences on deploying our approach in both production and development environments of WeChat (a messenger app with over one billion monthly active users) demonstrate high effectiveness of our approach along with high industry impact.

Explain DAMPE Results by Dark Matter With Hierarchical Lepton-Specific Yukawa Interactions

We propose to interpret the DAMPE electron excess at 1.5 TeV through scalar or Dirac fermion dark matter (DM) annihilation with doubly charged scalar mediators that have lepton-specific Yukawa couplings. Hierarchy of such lepton-specific Yukawa couplings is generated through the Froggatt-Nielsen mechanism, so that the dark matter annihilation products can be dominantly electrons. Stringent constraints from LEP2 on intermediate vector boson production can be evaded in our scenarios. In the case of scalar DM, we discuss one scenario with DM annihilating directly to leptons and the other scenario with DM annihilating to scalar mediators followed by their decays. We also discuss the Breit-Wigner resonant enhancement and the Sommerfeld enhancement in case that the s-wave annihilation process is small or helicity suppressed. With both types of enhancement, constraints on the parameters can be relaxed and new ways for model building will be open in explaining the DAMPE results.
