Local cubic vertex functions for three massless higher even spin fields on spaces AdS_D: An analytic approach

Local cubic vertex functions of three higher even spin fields on AdS_D are constructed from the Green function of three conserved currents that are dual to the higher spin fields. Conservation of the currents implies lowest order gauge invariance. These vertex functions appear by the UV divergence as the residue of the highest order pole in the dimensional regularization parameter ε. The method works for even D and maintains covariance at any step. The resulting formula is quite concise.

Radial Reduction and Cubic Interaction for Higher Spins in (A)dS space

We present a new version of the radial reduction formalism to obtain a cubic interaction of higher spin gauge fields in $AdS_{d+1}$ space from the corresponding cubic interaction in a flat $d+2$ dimensional background. We modify the radial reduction procedure proposed previously by T. Biswas and W. Siegel in 2002 and applied to the free higher spin Lagrangian by K. Hallowell and A. Waldron in 2005. This modified radial reduction scheme is applied to interacting massless higher spin fields in Fronsdal's formulation, and all results are expressed in a direct $AdS_{d+1}$ invariant way with $AdS$ covariant derivatives. We present a consistent algorithm and define new procedure to obtain all corrections proportional to powers of the cosmological constant, and apply these to the main term of the cubic self-interaction.

Solving Noether's equations for gauge invariant local Lagrangians of N arbitrary higher even spin fields

We consider systems of higher spin gauge fields that are described by a free field Lagrangian and one interaction of arbitrary order $N$ that is local and satisfies abelian gauge invariance. Such "solitary" interactions are derived from Noether potentials solving the Noether equations. They are constructed using a free conformal field theory carried by the same flat space as the higher spin fields. In this field theory we consider $N$-loop functions of conserved, conformally covariant currents, they are UV divergent. The residue of the first order pole in the dimensional regularisation approach to the $N$-loop function is a local differential operator and is free of anomalies, so that current conservation and conformal covariance is maintained. Applying this operator to the higher spin fields, the Noether potential results. We study the cases $N=2, N=3$ and N=4. We argue that our N=3 vertex for any number of derivatives $Δ$ is identical with the known cubic interaction.

General trilinear interaction for arbitrary even higher spin gauge fields

Using Noether's procedure we present a complete solution for the trilinear interactions of arbitrary spins $s_{1},s_{2}, s_{3}$ in a flat background, and discuss the possibility to enlarge this construction to higher order interactions in the gauge field. Some classification theorems of the cubic (self)interaction with different numbers of derivatives and depending on relations between the spins are presented. Finally the expansion of a general spin $s$ gauge transformation into powers of the field and the related closure of the gauge algebra in the general case are discussed.

A generating function for the cubic interactions of higher spin fields

We present an off-shell generating function for all cubic interactions of Higher Spin gauge fields constructed in arXiv:1003.2877. It is a generalization of the on-shell generating function proposed in arXiv:1006.5242, is written in a very compact way, and turns out to have a remarkable structure.

Direct construction of a cubic selfinteraction for higher spin gauge fields

Using Noether's procedure we directly construct a complete cubic selfinteraction for the case of spin s=4 in a flat background and discuss the cubic selfinteraction for general spin s with s derivatives in the same background. The leading term of the latter interaction together with the leading gauge transformation of first field order are presented.

Towards a quantum field theory of primitive string fields

We denote generating functions of massless even higher spin fields "primitive string fields" (PSF's). In an introduction we present the necessary definitions and derive propagators and currents of these PDF's on flat space. Their off-shell cubic interaction can be derived after all off-shell cubic interactions of triplets of higher spin fields have become known [2],[3]. Then we discuss four-point functions of any quartet of PSF's. In subsequent sections we exploit the fact that higher spin field theories in $AdS_{d+1}$ are determined by AdS/CFT correspondence from universality classes of critical systems in $d$ dimensional flat spaces. The O(N) invariant sectors of the O(N) vector models for $1\leq N \leq \infty$ play for us the role of "standard models", for varying $N$, they contain e.g. the Ising model for N=1 and the spherical model for $N=\infty$. A formula for the masses squared that break gauge symmetry for these O(N) classes is presented for d = 3. For the PSF on $AdS$ space it is shown that it can be derived by lifting the PSF on flat space by a simple kernel which contains the sum over all spins. Finally we use an algorithm to derive all symmetric tensor higher spin fields. They arise from monomials of scalar fields by derivation and selection of conformal (quasiprimary) fields. Typically one monomial produces a multiplet of spin $s$ conformal higher spin fields for all $s \geq 4$, they are distinguished by their anomalous dimensions (in $CFT_3$) or by their mass (in $AdS_4$). We sum over these multiplets and the spins to obtain "string type fields", one for each such monomial.

Local Interactions of Higher-Spin Potentials That are Gauge Invariant in Linear Approximation

We study connected Wightman functions of $N$ conserved currents, each of which is formed from a scalar field and has even spin $l_{i}$. The UV divergence of this vertex function is regularized by the analytic continuation in the space dimension $D\longrightarrow D-ε$. We evaluate the residue of $ε^{-1}$ only, which is a local interaction Lagrangian density and gauge invariant in linear

Off-shell construction of some trilinear higher spin gauge field interactions

Several trilinear interactions of higher spin fields involving two equal ($s=s_{1}=s_{2}$) and one higher even ($s_{3}\geq 2s$) spin are presented. Interactions are constructed on the Lagrangian level using Noether's procedure together with the corresponding next to free level fields of the gauge transformations. In certain cases when the number of derivatives in the transformation is $2s-1$ the interactions lead to the currents constructed from the generalization of the gravitational Bell-Robinson tensors. In other cases when the number of derivatives in the transformation is more than $2s-1$ we obtain the finite tower of interactions with smaller even spins less than $s_{3}$ in full agreement with our previous results for the interaction of the higher even spins field with a conformal scalar [1,2].

Ultraviolet behaviour of higher spin gauge field propagators and one loop mass renormalization

The ultraviolet singular structure of the bulk-to-bulk propagators for higher spin gauge fields in $AdS_{4}$ space is analyzed in details. Possible interactions with the Higgs scalar and the corresponding one loop mass renormalization are studied. This mass renormalization is finite and connected with the anomalous dimensions of those currents in the corresponding boundary $CFT_{3}$ that cease to be conserved when the interaction is switched on. In particular it is proportional to $\ell-2$.

Generalized Curvature and Ricci Tensors for a Higher Spin Potential and the Trace Anomaly in External Higher Spin Fields in AdS_{4} Space

The curvature of a higher spin potential as constructed in a previous article of the same authors arXiv:0705.3528 is applied to the analysis of the linearized trace anomaly obtained from the quadratic part of the effective action for a conformally coupled scalar with linearized interaction with the external higher spin fields arXiv:hep-th/0602067. The spin is restricted to four to profit from technical simplifications but without reducing the problem in principle. The issue includes the calculation of all Ricci tensors as multiple traces of the curvature, the derivation of all primary and secondary Bianchi identities, expressing all Ricci tensors as differential operators applied to the Fronsdal term, calculating the Weyl variation of these, and showing finally that Weyl variations of integrals over contracted squares of Ricci tensors can be used to eliminate the anomaly completely. This peculiarity is discussed in detail. As tools we use the formalism of bisymmetric tensor fields whose space is equipped with a local bilinear invariant form, the *-form.

The Generalized Curvature and Christoffel Symbols for a Higher Spin Potential in AdS_{d+1} Space

The generalized curvature tensor and Christoffel symbols are determined in AdS_{d+1} background by a modified ansatz of the de Wit - Freedman type by imposing gauge invariance. The resulting set of recurrence relations and difference equations is solved. The Riemann curvature tensor is derived by antisymmetrization. All results are presented as finite power series in the inverse AdS radius and are unique. The fourth order, which is complete for fields up to spin five, is calculated explicitly. Higher orders can be obtained with the same method.

The Goldstone fields of interacting higher spin field theory on AdS(4)

A higher spin field theory on AdS(4) possesses a conformal field theory on the boundary R(3) which can be identified with the critical O(N) sigma model of O(N) invariant fields only. The notions of quasiprimary and secondary fields can be carried over to the AdS theory. If de Donder's gauge is applied, the traceless part of the higher spin field on AdS(4) is quasiprimary and the Goldstone fields are quasiprimary fields to leading order, too. Those fields corresponding to the Goldstone fields in the critical O(N) sigma model are odd rank symmetric tensor currents which vanish in the free field limit.

The structure of the trace anomaly of higher spin conformal currents in the bulk of $AdS_{4}$

The two-point function of the conserved traceless spin-$\ell$ currents which are constructed from the scalar field $σ(z)$ is evaluated and renormalized by a dimensional regularization procedure. The anomaly is managed to arise only in the trace part. To isolate this trace anomaly it is sufficient to analyze only the maximum singular part of the two-point function and its trace terms to leading order. The corresponding part of the effective action which is quadratic in the trace of the higher spin field is explicitly given. For the spin-2 field which is identical with the gravitational field the results known from the literature are reproduced.

The masses of gauge fields in higher spin field theory on the bulk of $AdS_{4}$

A local gauge invariant interaction Lagrangian for two gauge fields of spin $\ell$ and $\ell-2$ $(\ell>2)$ and the scalar field is defined. It gives rise to one-loop corrections to the gauge field propagator. The loop function contains the Goldstone boson propagator for gauge symmetry breaking. The proportionality factor in front of this propagator is the mass squared of the gauge boson.

The quantum one loop trace anomaly of the higher spin conformal conserved currents in the bulk of $AdS_{4}$

An analysis of the structure and singularities of the one loop two point function of the higher spin traceless and conserved currents constructed from the single scalar field in $AdS$ space is presented. The detailed renormalization procedure is constructed and the quantum violation of the traceless Ward identity is investigated. The connection with the one loop effective action for higher spin gauge fields is discussed.

The off-shell behaviour of propagators and the Goldstone field in higher spin gauge theory on $AdS_{d+1}$ space

A detailed analysis of the structure and gauge dependence of the bulk-to-bulk propagators for the higher spin gauge fields in $AdS$ space is performed. The possible freedom in the construction of the propagators is investigated and fixed by the correct boundary behaviour and correspondence to the representation theory results for the $AdS$ space isometry group. The classical origin of the Goldstone mode and its connection with the gauge fixing procedure is considered.

The minimal conformal O(N) vector sigma model at d=3

For the minimal O(N) sigma model, which is defined to be generated by the O(N) scalar auxiliary field alone, all n-point functions, till order 1/N included, can be expressed by elementary functions without logarithms. Consequently, the conformal composite fields of m auxiliary fields possess at the same order such dimensions, which are m times the dimension of the auxiliary field plus the order of differentiation.
