A new way to classify 2D higher order quantum superintegrable systems

We revise a method by Kalnins, Kress and Miller (2010) for constructing a canonical form for symmetry operators of arbitrary order for the Schrödinger eigenvalue equation $HΨ\equiv (Δ_2 +V)Ψ=EΨ$ on any 2D Riemannian manifold, real or complex, that admits a separation of variables in some orthogonal coordinate system. We apply the method, as an example, to revisit the Tremblay and Winternitz (2010) derivation of the Painlevé VI potential for a 3rd order superintegrable flat space system that separates in polar coordinates and, as new results, we give a listing of the possible potentials on the 2-sphere that separate in spherical coordinates and 2-hyperbolic (two-sheet) potentials separating in horocyclic coordinates. In particular, we show that the Painlevé VI potential also appears for a 3rd order superintegrable system on the 2-sphere that separates in spherical coordinates, as well as a 3rd order superintegrable system on the 2-hyperboloid that separates in spherical coordinates and one that separates in horocyclic coordinates. Our aim is to develop tools for analysis and classification of higher order superintegrable systems on any 2D Riemannian space, not just Euclidean space.

Particle in a field of two centers in prolate spheroidal coordinates: integrability and solvability

We analyze one particle, two-center quantum problems which admit separation of variables in prolate spheroidal coordinates, a natural restriction satisfied by the H$_2^+$ molecular ion. The symmetry operator is constructed explicitly. We give the details of the Hamiltonian reduction of the 3D system to a 2D system with modified potential that is separable in elliptic coordinates. The potentials for which there is double-periodicity of the Schrödinger operator in the space of prolate spheroidal coordinates, including one for the H$_2^+$ molecular ion, are indicated. We study possible potentials that admit exact-solvability is as well as all models known to us with the (quasi)-exact-solvability property for the separation equations. We find deep connections between second-order superintegrable and conformally superintegrable systems and these tractable problems. In particular we derive a general 4-parameter expression for a model potential that is always integrable and is conformally superintegrable for some parameter choices.

Separation of variables and the XXZ Gaudin magnet

In this work we generalise previous results connecting (rational) Gaudin magnet models and classical separation of variables. It is shown that the connection persists for the case of linear r-matrix algebra which corresponds to the trigonometric 4x4 r-matrix (of the XXZ type). We comment also on the corresponding problem for the elliptic (XYZ) r-matrix. A prescription for obtaining integrable systems associated with multiple poles of an L-operator is given.

Quadrics on Complex Riemannian Spaces of Constant Curvature, Separation of Variables and the Gaudin Magnet

We consider integrable systems that are connected with orthogonal separation of variables in complex Riemannian spaces of constant curvature. An isomorphism with the hyperbolic Gaudin magnet, previously pointed out by one of us, extends to coordinates of this type. The complete classification of these separable coordinate systems is provided by means of the corresponding $L$-matrices for the Gaudin magnet. The limiting procedures (or $ε$ calculus) which relate various degenerate orthogonal coordinate systems play a crucial result in the classification of all such systems.
