On positive maps in quantum information

Using Grothendieck approach to the tensor product of locally convex spaces we review a characterization of positive maps as well as Belavkin-Ohya characterization of PPT states. Moreover, within this scheme, \textit{ a generalization of the idea of Choi matrices for genuine quantum systems will be presented}.

On the structure of positive maps II: low dimensional matrix algebras

We use a new idea that emerged in the examination of exposed positive maps between matrix algebras to investigate in more detail the difference between positive maps on $M_2(C)$ and $M_3(C)$. Our main tool stems from classical Grothendieck theorem on tensor product of Banach spaces and is an older and more general version of Choi-Jamiolkowski isomorphism between positive maps and block positive Choi matrices. It takes into account the correct topology on the latter set that is induced by the uniform topology on positive maps. In this setting we show that in $M_2(C)$ case a large class of nice positive maps can be generated from the small set of maps represented by self-adjoint unitaries, $2 P_x$ with $x$ maximally entangled vector and $p\otimes 1$ with $p$ rank 1 projector. We show why this construction fails in $M_3(C)$ case. There are also similarities. In both $M_2(C)$ and $M_3(C)$ cases any unital positive map represented by self-adjoint unitary is unitarily equivalent to the transposition map. Consequently we obtain a large family of exposed maps. We also investigate a convex structure of the Choi map, the first example of non-decomposable map. As a result the nature of the Choi map will be explained. This gives an information on the origin of appearance of non-decomposable maps on $M_3(C)$.

On the structure of positive maps; finite dimensional case

A natural and intrinsic characterization of the structure of the set $\mathfrak{C}$ of positive unital maps is given, i.e. it is shown that $\mathfrak{C}$ is isometrically isomorphic to the subset $\gD$ of bp-positive density matrices endowed with the geometry given by the norm $α$ dual to the Grothendieck projective norm $π$, the structure of $\gD$ is determined by the set of its exposed points, and finally a characterization of exposed points of $\gD$ in terms of convex analysis is presented. This seems to be an answer to an old open problem, characterization of the structure of the set of positive maps, studied both in Quantum Information and Operator Algebras. Our arguments are based on the concept of exposed points and links between tensor products and mapping spaces. It should be emphasized that the concept of exposed point depends strongly on the geometry, hence the role of the norm $α$ is crucial.

Maps on noncommutative Orlicz spaces

A generalization of the Pistone-Sempi argument, demonstrating the utility of non-commutative Orlicz spaces, is presented. The question of lifting positive maps defined on von Neumann algebra to maps on corresponding noncommutative Orlicz spaces is discussed. In particular, we describe those Jordan *-morphisms on semifinite von Neumann algebras which in a canonical way induce quantum composition operators on noncommutative Orlicz spaces. Consequently, it is proved that the framework of noncommutative Orlicz spaces is well suited for an analysis of large class of interesting noncommutative dynamical systems.

On quantum Lyapunov exponents

It was shown that quantum analysis constitutes the proper analytic basis for quantization of Lyapunov exponents in the Heisenberg picture. Differences among various quantizations of Lyapunov exponents are clarified.

Decomposability of extremal positive unital maps on $M_2$

A map $ϕ:M_m(\bC)\to M_n(\bC)$ is decomposable if it is of the form $ϕ=ϕ_1+ϕ_2$ where $ϕ_1$ is a CP map while $ϕ_2$ is a co-CP map. It is known that if $m=n=2$ then every positive map is decomposable. Given an extremal unital positive map $ϕ:M_2(\bC)\to M_2(\bC)$ we construct concrete maps (not necessarily unital) $ϕ_1$ and $ϕ_2$ which give a decomposition of $ϕ$. We also show that in most cases this decomposition is unique.

$k$-decomposability of positive maps

The problem of classification of decomposable (in the sense of Stormer) positive maps between matrix algebras is presented. We propose the new notion of "finite" version of decomposability ($k$-decomposabilty). The characterisation of $k$-decomposability on the Hilbert space level is done. In the case of low dimensional algebras the notion of local decomposability and its applications for the description of decomposable maps are discussed.

Some remarks on separability of states

Several problems concerning separable states are clarified on the basis of Choi's scheme and old Kadison and Tomiyama results. Moreover, we generalize Terhal's construction of positive maps.
