New constraints on CPT symmetry violation in charm mesons

Small CPT-violating effects are admissible in several theories beyond the Standard Model of interactions. We analyse experimental data obtained with neutral flavoured meson mixing and place bounds on the scale of such phenomena. The constraints on the CPT-violating parameter $z$ are derived by reinterpreting the LHCb measurement of the time-dependent asymmetry in the Cabbibo-favoured $D^0 \rightarrow K^{-}π^{+}$ and $\bar{D}^0 \rightarrow K^{+}π^{-}$ decay rates. The bounds provided in this paper are two orders of magnitude stricter compared to the results obtained by the FOCUS Collaboration. Among other constraints, we report bounds on the difference in the decay widths and masses of the neutral D meson flavour states at a 95 % confidence level. The decay width difference is bounded by $(-4.7<δΓ_D<2.1)\times 10^{-16}$GeV. The mass difference lies within~$(-2.0<δm_D<2.0)\times 10^{-15}$GeV for 95% of $\text{arg}(z)$ values. The paper includes an assessment of the influence of CP violation on the results and a discussion of the future prospects.

Deformation-induced CPT violation in entangled pairs of neutral kaons

In this paper we consider description of kaon -- anti-kaon interference in the context of a theory with deformed $\cal CPT$ symmetry. In the case of such theoretical models, deviations from the standard $\cal CPT$ invariance is related to the momentum carried by the particles; in particular the rest masses of particles and antiparticles are equal. We find that the decay intensity of kaon -- anti-kaon pair has three contributing terms: the correct-parity, the wrong-parity, and the interference between them, all of which are affected by deformation. Using the fact that the presence of such terms were not observed we estimate the magnitude of deformation parameter $κ\gtrsim 10^{18}$ GeV, very close to the expected Planck mass scale. This raises hopes that the effect, if exists, could be detected in a near future accelerator experiments. An uncertainty of the energy measurement is crucial for accuracy of these predictions.

Quantum Gravity Phenomenology and Particle Physics

Quantum gravity phenomenology has been historically regarded as a difficult endeavour, due to the apparent scarcity of phenomena involving the required scales of length (Planck length $l_P$) and energy (Planck energy $E_P$). It was realized, however, that one can look for cumulative effects of a quantum theory of gravity at energies $E/E_P \ll 1$ if even tiny effects are amplified by the large time of flight or very high energies, common to astrophysical phenomena. In the this work, complementary to the COST action CA18108 White Book, we put forward a proposal that quantum gravity phenomenology can be fruitfully pursued also with the help of terrestrial particles accelerators. We first discuss the theoretical background, and then concentrate on deformed discrete symmetries C,P,T. We investigate possible experimental signatures of CPT deformation, particularly concerning the difference in decay time between particles and antiparticles, and fields interference.

$κ$-deformed complex scalar field: conserved charges, symmetries and their impact on physical observables

In this paper we revisit the model of $κ$-deformed complex scalar field. We find that this model possesses ten conserved Noether charges that form, under commutators, a representation of (undeformed) Poincaré algebra. It follows that the theory is relativistic and does not break Lorentz invariance. However the spacetime representation of boosts is not standard, and contains a non-local translation, different for positive and negative energy modes. It then follows that although the masses of particles and anti-particles are equal, the theory violates CPT symmetry in a subtle way. We explain why the Jost-Wightman-Greenberg theorem of equivalence of the Poincaré symmetry and CPT fails in our case. Finally, we discuss the phenomenological consequences of the theory and its possible observational signatures.

Bounds on Plack-scale deformation of CPT from lifetimes and interference

Deformed relativistic kinematics, expected to emerge in a flat-spacetime limit of quantum gravity, predicts violation of discrete symmetries at energy scale in the vicinity of the Planck mass. Momentum-dependent deformations of the C, P and T invariance are derived from the \k{appa}-deformed Poincaré algebra. Deformation of the CPT symmetry leads to a subtle violation of Lorentz symmetry. This entails some small but measurable phenomenological consequences, as corrections to characteristics of time evolution: particle lifetimes or frequency of flavour oscillations in two-particle states at high energy. We argue here that using current experimental precisions on the muon lifetime one can bound the deformation parameter \k{appa} > 10^14 GeV at LHC energy and move this limit even to 10^16 GeV at Future Circular Collider, planned at CERN. Weaker limits on deformation can be also obtained from interference of neutral mesons. In case of B0s from Υ decay it amounts to \k{appa} > 10^8 GeV at confidence level 99%.

Planck-scale deformation of CPT and particle lifetimes

We carry out a systematic study of the bounds that can be set on Planck-scale deformations of relativistic symmetries and CPT from precision measurements of particle and antiparticle lifetimes. Elaborating on our earlier work [1] we discuss a new form of departure from CPT invariance linked to the possibility of a non-trivial geometry of four-momentum and its consequences for the particle and antiparticle mass-shells and decay probabilities. Our main result is a collection of experimental bounds that can be obtained for the deformation parameter of the theoretical model under consideration based on current data and sensitivities of planned experiments at high energies.

A bound on Planck-scale deformations of CPT from muon lifetime

We show that deformed relativistic kinematics, expected to emerge in a flat-spacetime limit of quantum gravity, predicts different lifetimes for particles and their antiparticles. This phenomenon is a consequence of Planck-scale modifications of the action of discrete symmetries. In particular we focus on deformations of the action of CPT derived from the kappa-Poincare algebra, the most studied example of Planck-scale deformation of relativistic symmetries. Looking at lifetimes of muons and anti-muons we are able to derive an experimental bound on the deformation parameter of kappa > 4x10^14 GeV from measurements at the LHC. Such bound has the potential to reach the value of kappa > 2x10^16 GeV using measurements at the planned Future Circular Collider (FCC).

Entanglement, fluctuations and discrete symmetries in particle decays

Pairs of pseudoscalar neutral mesons from decays of vector resonances are studied as bipartite systems in the framework of density operator. Time-dependent quantum entanglement is quantified in terms of the entanglement entropy and these dependences are demonstrated on data on correlated pairs of K and B mesons, as measured by the KLOE and Belle experiments . Another interesting characteristics of such bipartite systems are moments of the CP distributions. These moments are directly measurable and they appear to be very sensitive to the initial degree of entanglement of a pair.

The KLOE-2 Experiment at DAPHNE

We present recent results obtained by the KLOE-2 Collaboration at the DAPHNE e+e- collider. The first class of results concerns search for dark forces at the scale of 1 GeV in associated production of gamma and the U boson, in search for the Higgsstrahlung and in possible decays of phi into eta and U. The second is in neutral kaon physics, on testing the CPT and Lorentz invariance, and on search for quantum decoherence effects in entangled pairs of kaons. The third class of results concerns precision measurements in hadronic physics at low energy where transition form factors of phi to pseudoscalar mesons pi0 and eta are determined.

Mesoscopic approach to minority games in herd regime

We study minority games in efficient regime. By incorporating the utility function and aggregating agents with similar strategies we develop an effective mesoscale notion of state of the game. Using this approach, the game can be represented as a Markov process with substantially reduced number of states with explicitly computable probabilities. For any payoff, the finiteness of the number of states is proved. Interesting features of an extensive random variable, called aggregated demand, viz. its strong inhomogeneity and presence of patterns in time, can be easily interpreted. Using Markov theory and quenched disorder approach, we can explain important macroscopic characteristics of the game: behavior of variance per capita and predictability of the aggregated demand. We prove that in case of linear payoff many attractors in the state space are possible.

Phenomenology of minority games in efficient regime

We present a comprehensive study of utility function of the minority game in its efficient regime. We develop an effective description of state of the game. For the payoff function $g(x)=\sgn (x)$ we explicitly represent the game as the Markov process and prove the finitness of number of states. We also demonstrate boundedness of the utility function. Using these facts we can explain all interesting observable features of the aggregated demand: appearance of strong fluctuations, their periodicity and existence of prefered levels. For another payoff, $g(x)=x$, the number of states is still finite and utility remains bounded but the number of states cannot be reduced and probabilities of states are not calculated. However, using properties of the utility and analysing the game in terms of de Bruijn graphs, we can also explain distinct peaks of demand and their frequencies.

Study of the Decoherence of Entangled Kaons by the Interaction with Thermal Photons

The KLOE-2 detector is a powerful tool to study the temporal evolution of quantum entangled pairs of kaons. The accuracy of such studies may in principle be limited by the interaction of neutral kaons with thermal photons present inside the detector. Therefore, it is crucial to estimate the probability of this effect and its influence on the interference patterns. In this paper we introduce the phenomenology of the interaction of photons with neutral kaons and present and discuss the obtained quantitative results.

Multi-market minority game: breaking the symmetry of choice

Generalization of the minority game to more than one market is considered. At each time step every agent chooses one of its strategies and acts on the market related to this strategy. If the payoff function allows for strong fluctuation of utility then market occupancies become inhomogeneous with preference given to this market where the fluctuation occured first. There exists a critical size of agent population above which agents on bigger market behave collectively. In this regime there always exists a history of decisions for which all agents on a bigger market react identically.

We treat the problem in general terms and do not refer to particular models of interaction energy. We discuss the case of arbitrary dispersion of the fixed point.
