Two-loop improved predictions for $M_W$ and $\sin^2θ_{eff}$ in Two-Higgs-Doublet Models

We present the currently most precise predictions for the $W$-boson mass and the leptonic effective mixing angle $\sin^2θ_{\text{eff}}$ in the aligned Two-Higgs-Doublet Model. The evaluation includes the full one-loop result, all known higher-order corrections of the Standard Model, and the non-standard two-loop contributions that increase with mass splittings between charged and neutral THDM Higgs bosons. They depend on $\tanβ$ and the soft $Z_2$-symmetry breakingparameter $m_{12}^2$ of the scalar potential, in addition to the non-standard boson masses. Whenever the one-loop corrections become large, the two-loop contributions yield substantial modifications of the predictions, which is of particular importance for the $W$ mass where large mass shifts are required to reach the recently published final resultof the CDF collaboration. Numerical results are shown for the dependence on the various non-standard parameters and in comparison with experimental data.

Theoretical uncertainties in the MSSM Higgs boson mass calculation

The remaining theoretical uncertainties from unknown higher-order corrections in the prediction for the light Higgs-boson mass of the MSSM are estimated. The uncertainties associated with three different approaches that are implemented in the publicly available code FeynHiggs are compared: the fixed-order diagrammatic approach, suitable for low SUSY scales, the effective field theory (EFT) approach, suitable for high SUSY scales, and the hybrid approach which combines the fixed-order and the EFT approaches. It is demonstrated for a simple single-scale scenario that the result based on the hybrid approach yields a precise prediction for low, intermediate and high SUSY scales with a theoretical uncertainty of up to $\sim 1.5$ GeV for large stop mixing and $\sim 0.5$ GeV for small stop mixing. The uncertainty estimate of the hybrid calculation approaches the uncertainty estimate of the fixed-order result for low SUSY scales and the uncertainty estimate of the EFT approach for high SUSY scales, while for intermediate scales it is reduced compared to both of the individual results. The estimate of the theoretical uncertainty is also investigated in scenarios with more than one mass scale. A significantly enhanced uncertainty is found in scenarios where the gluino is substantially heavier than the scalar top quarks. The uncertainty estimate presented in this paper will be part of the public code FeynHiggs.

Precision calculations in the MSSM Higgs-boson sector with FeynHiggs 2.14

We present an overview of the status and recent developments of FeynHiggs (current version: 2.14.3) since version 2.12.2. The main purpose of FeynHiggs is the calculation of the Higgs-boson masses and other physical observables in the MSSM. For a precise prediction of the Higgs-boson masses for low and high SUSY scales, state-of-the-art fixed-order and effective-field-theory calculations are combined. We first discuss improvements of the fixed-order calculation, namely an optional $\overline{\text{DR}}$ renormalization of the stop sector and a renormalization of the Higgs sector ensuring the chosen input mass to be equivalent with the corresponding physical mass. Second, we describe improvements of the EFT calculation, i.e. an implementation of non-degenerate threshold corrections as well as an interpolation for complex parameters. Lastly, we highlight some improvements of the code structure easing future extensions of FeynHiggs to models beyond the MSSM.

Precise prediction of the MSSM Higgs boson masses for low MA

Precise predictions for Higgs boson masses in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model can be obtained by combining fixed-order calculations with effective field theory (EFT) methods for the resummation of large logarithms in case of heavy superpartners. This hybrid approach is implemented in the computer code FeynHiggs and has been applied in previous studies for calculating the mass of the lightest CP-even Higgs boson for low, intermediate and high SUSY scales. In these works it was assumed that the non-standard Higgs bosons share a common mass scale with the supersymmetric squark particles, leaving the Standard Model as the low-energy EFT. In this article, we relax this restriction and report on the implemention of a Two-Higgs-Doublet Model (THDM) as effective theory below the SUSY scale into our hybrid approach. We explain in detail the various steps how our EFT calculation is consistently combined with the fixed-order calculation within the code FeynHiggs. In our numerical investigation we find effects on the mass of the lightest CP-even Higgs boson h of up to 9 GeV in scenarios with low $M_A$ , low $\tanβ$ and high SUSY scales, when compared with previous versions of FeynHiggs. Comparisons to other publicly available pure EFT codes with a THDM show good agreement. Effects on the mass of the second lightest CP-even Higgs boson H are found to be negligible in the phenomenologically interesting parameter regions where H can be traded for h as the experimentally observed Higgs particle.

Precise prediction for the light MSSM Higgs boson mass combining effective field theory and fixed-order calculations

In the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model heavy superparticles introduce large logarithms in the calculation of the lightest $\mathcal{CP}$-even Higgs boson mass. These logarithmic contributions can be resummed using effective field theory techniques. For light superparticles, however, fixed-order calculations are expected to be more accurate. To gain a precise prediction also for intermediate mass scales, both approaches have to be combined. Here, we report on an improvement of this method in various steps: the inclusion of electroweak contributions, of separate electroweakino and gluino thresholds, as well as resummation at the NNLL level. These improvements can lead to significant numerical effects. In most cases, the lightest $\mathcal{CP}$-even Higgs boson mass is shifted downwards by about 1 GeV. This is mainly caused by higher order corrections to the $\bar{\text{MS}}$ top-quark mass. We also describe the implementation of the new contributions in the code {\tt FeynHiggs}.

Reconciling EFT and hybrid calculations of the light MSSM Higgs-boson mass

Various methods are used in the literature for predicting the lightest CP-even Higgs boson mass in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). Fixed-order diagrammatic calculations capture all effects at a given order and yield accurate results for scales of supersymmetric (SUSY) particles that are not separated too much from the weak scale. Effective field theory calculations allow a resummation of large logarithmic contributions up to all orders and therefore yield accurate results for a high SUSY scale. A hybrid approach, where both methods have been combined, is implemented in the computer code FeynHiggs. So far, however, at large scales sizeable differences have been observed between FeynHiggs and other pure EFT codes. In this work, the various approaches are analytically compared with each other in a simple scenario in which all SUSY mass scales are chosen to be equal to each other. Three main sources are identified that account for the major part of the observed differences. Firstly, it is shown that the scheme conversion of the input parameters that is commonly used for the comparison of fixed-order results is not adequate for the comparison of results containing a series of higher-order logarithms. Secondly, the treatment of higher-order terms arising from the determination of the Higgs propagator pole is addressed. Thirdly, the effect of different parametrizations in particular of the top Yukawa coupling in the non-logarithmic terms is investigated. Taking into account all of these effects, in the considered simple scenario very good agreement is found for scales above 1 TeV between the results obtained using the EFT approach and the hybrid approach of FeynHiggs.

Two-loop corrections to the $ρ$ parameter in Two-Higgs-Doublet Models

Models with two scalar doublets are among the simplest extensions of the Standard Model which fulfill the relation $ρ= 1$ at lowest order for the $ρ$ parameter as favored by experimental data for electroweak observables allowing only small deviations from unity. Such small deviations $Δρ$ originate exclusively from quantum effects with special sensitivity to mass splittings between different isospin components of fermions and scalars. In this paper the dominant two-loop electroweak corrections to $Δρ$ are calculated in the $CP$-conserving THDM, resulting from the top-Yukawa coupling and the self-couplings of the Higgs bosons in the gauge-less limit. The on-shell renormalization scheme is applied. With the assumption that one of the $CP$-even neutral scalars represents the scalar boson observed by the LHC experiments, with standard properties, the two-loop non-standard contributions in $Δρ$ can be separated from the standard ones. These contributions are of particular interest since they increase with mass splittings between non-standard Higgs bosons and can be additionally enhanced by $\tanβ$ and $λ_5$, an additional free coefficient of the Higgs potential, and can thus modify the one-loop result substantially. Numerical results are given for the dependence on the various non-standard parameters, and the influence on the calculation of electroweak precision observables is discussed.

Electroweak corrections to squark-antisquark production at the LHC

We present the calculation of the electroweak corrections for squark-antisquark pair production at the LHC within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. Taking into account all possible chirality and light-flavor configurations, we evaluate the NLO EW corrections, which are of O(a_s^2 a), as well as the subleading tree-level contributions of O(a_s a) and O(a^2). Numerical results are presented for several scans in the SUSY parameter space and relevant differential distributions are investigated. The impact of the electroweak corrections is nonnegligible and strongly depends on the chirality configuration of the produced squarks. Our analysis includes a discussion of photon-gluon initiated processes with a focus on the impact of the corresponding large PDF uncertainties.

Two-loop top-Yukawa-coupling corrections to the charged Higgs-boson mass in the MSSM

The top-Yukawa-coupling enhanced two-loop corrections to the charged Higgs-boson mass in the real MSSM are presented. The contributing two-loop self-energies are calculated in the Feynman- diagrammatic approach in the gaugeless limit with vanishing external momentum and bottom mass, within a renormalization scheme comprising on-shell and $\overline{\text{DR}}$ conditions. Numerical results illustrate the effect of the $\mathcal{O}{(α_t^2)}$ contributions and the importance of the two-loop corrections to the mass of the charged Higgs bosons.

Top Yukawa-Coupling Enhanced Two-Loop Corrections to the Masses of the Higgs Bosons in the MSSM with CP Violation

Recent results for the leading $\mathcal{O}{\left(α_t^2\right)}$ two-loop corrections to the Higgs-boson masses of the MSSM with complex parameters are presented. The strategy of the Feynman-diagrammatic, analytical calculation is illustrated. Numerical analyses show agreement with a previous result in the limit of real parameters. Furthermore, the newly available dependence on complex MSSM parameters is investigated. Mass shifts by $\approx 1$GeV for different phases underline the importance of this contribution for a precise prediction of the Higgs-boson mass spectrum in the MSSM.

Higgs boson masses and mixings in the complex MSSM with two-loop top-Yukawa-coupling corrections

Results for the leading two-loop corrections of $\mathcal{O}{\left(α_t^2\right)}$ from the Yukawa sector to the Higgs-boson mass spectrum of the MSSM with complex parameters are presented, with details of the analytical calculation performed in the Feynman-diagrammatic approach using a mixed $\left.\text{on-shell}\middle/\,\overline{\text{DR}}\right.$ scheme that can be directly matched onto the higher-order terms in the code ${\tt FeynHiggs}$. Numerical results are shown for the masses and mixing effects in the neutral Higgs-boson sector and their variation with the phases of the complex parameters. Furthermore, the analytical expressions of the two-loop self-energies and the required renormalization constants are recorded. The new results can consistently be implemented in ${\tt FeynHiggs}$.

Top-squark pair production at the LHC: a complete analysis at next-to-leading order

We present a complete next-to-leading order study of top-squark pair production at the LHC, including QCD and EW corrections. The calculation is performed within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model and numerical results are presented for parameter regions compatible with the observed Higgs boson. We employ the most recent parton distribution functions including QED corrections and we find NLO EW corrections to the inclusive stop-pair production cross section up to $25 - 30\%$ compared to the leading-order prediction. Besides corrections to inclusive cross sections also important kinematic distributions are investigated.

Higher-Order Contributions in Higgs Sectors of Supersymmetric Models

In 2012, the discovery of a particle compatible with a Higgs boson of a mass of roughly 125 GeV was announced. This great success is now being followed by the identification of the nature of this particle and the particle's properties are being measured. One of these properties is the Higgs boson mass which is already known very precisely with an experimental uncertainty of below 1 GeV. In some extensions of the Standard Model, like in supersymmetric extensions, the Higgs boson mass can be predicted and hence, the measured mass constrains the parameters of the model. For a full exploitation of this constraint, a precise theoretical prediction is needed. The presented combination of the results obtained by the Feynman diagrammatic approach and the renormalization group equation approach improves the known Higgs mass prediction for larger mass scales of the superpartner particles.

Two-loop top-Yukawa-coupling corrections to the Higgs boson masses in the complex MSSM

Results for the leading two-loop corrections of $\mathcal{O}{\left(α_t^2\right)}$ from the Yukawa sector to the Higgs-boson masses of the MSSM with complex parameters are presented. The corresponding self-energies and their renormalization have been obtained in a Feynman-diagrammatic approach. A numerical analysis of the new contributions is performed for the mass of the lightest Higgs boson, supplemented by the full one-loop result and the $\mathcal{O}{\left(α_t α_s\right)}$ terms including complex phases. In the limit of the real MSSM a previous result is confirmed.

Electroweak corrections to $gg\to H^{-}t\bar{b}$ at the LHC

The dominant contribution to $H^- t\bar{b}$ production at the LHC is the gluon-gluon fusion parton subprocess. We perform for the case of the complex MSSM a complete calculation of the NLO electroweak contributions to this channel. The other small contributions with quarks or photon in the initial state are calculated at tree level. The results are improved by using the effective bottom-Higgs couplings to resum the leading radiative corrections. We find that, beyond these leading corrections, the NLO electroweak contributions can be still be significant. The effect of the complex phases of the soft-breaking parameters is found to be sizable.

NLO corrections to squark-squark production and decay at the LHC

We present the analysis of the signature 2j + ETmiss (+X) via squark-squark production and direct decay into the lightest neutralino, pp -> squark squark -> j j chi_1^0 chi_1^0 (+X), in next-to-leading order QCD within the framework of the minimal supersymmetric standard model. In our approximation the produced squarks are treated on shell. Thus, the calculation of production and decay factorizes. In this way, we provide a consistent, fully differential calculation of NLO QCD factorizable corrections to the given processes. Clustering final states into partonic jets, we investigate the experimental inclusive signature 2j + ETmiss for several benchmark scenarios. We compare resulting differential distributions with leading-order approximations rescaled by a flat K-factor and examine a possible impact for cut-and-count searches for supersymmetry at the LHC.

On cascade decays of squarks at the LHC in NLO QCD

In this paper we present an analysis at NLO of the contribution from squark-squark production to the experimental signature 2j + 2l + missing E_T (+X) with opposite-sign same flavor leptons, taking into account decays and experimental cuts. We consider the case in which one squark decays directly into the lightest neutralino chi^0_1 and the other one into the second lightest neutralino and subsequently into l^+l^-chi^0_1 via an intermediate slepton. On one hand we study effects of the NLO corrections on invariant mass distributions which can be used for future parameter determination. On the other hand we analyze the impact on predictions for cut-and-count searches using this experimental signature.
