Speed of the CERN Neutrinos released on 22.9.2011 - Was stated superluminality due to neglecting General Relativity?

During the years 2009 to 2011, neutrino beams were fired repeatedly from CERN towards a detector in Italy's Gran Sasso tunnel, some 4 deg south and 7 deg east of CERN, at a distance of 730.5 km, in the shape of short bunches of particles. Their time of flight (2.5 msec) was measured at high accuracy (nsec) with caesium clocks (Reich 2011). Remarkably, the CNGS team found a deficit of 61 nsec compared with propagation at the speed of light, and concluded at superluminal speeds, of order 10$^{-4.6}$. In this communication, I will argue that this is the first experiment to test Einstein's theory for the (weak) gravity field of Earth, with the result that the neutrinos propagated (just) luminally.

The Local-Galactic interpretation of the Gamma-Ray Bursts

In this talk, I shall update my 16-year old claim that all the (thousands of) observed GRBs - both long and short, repeating or (so far) not - come from the surfaces of Galactic neutron stars, often called 'magnetars', or 'throttled pulsars'.

Juergen Ehlers - and the Fate of the Black-Hole Spacetimes

This article -- written in honour of Juergen Ehlers -- consists of two different, though interlocking parts: Section 1 describes my 54 years of perpetual experiences and exchanges with him, both science and episodes, whilst section 2 describes the history of astrophysical black holes, which evolved during the same epoque though largely independently, with its activity centers in other places of the globe, and has by no means terminated.

Critical Thoughts on Cosmology

An overview is given in section 1, of uncertain building blocks of present-day cosmologies. Thereafter, these edited lecture notes deal with the following four special problems: (1) They advertise Wiltshire's result -- making `dark energy' obsolete -- that accelerated cosmic expansion may be an artefact, due to an incorrect evaluation of the cosmic timescale in a Universe whose bulk matter is inhomogeneously distributed. (2) They cast doubt on Hawking's prediction of black-hole evaporation. (3) They point at various inconsistencies of the black-hole paradigm, in favour of nuclear-burning central engines of AGN. (4) They re-interpret (a best case of) `anomalous redshifts' as non-cosmological, kinematic redshifts in strong jet sources.

The Water Circuit of the Plants - Do Plants have Hearts ?

There is a correspondence between the circulation of blood in all higher animals and the circulation of sap in all higher plants - up to heights h of 140 m - through the xylem and phloem vessels. Plants suck in water from the soil, osmotically through the roothair zone, and subsequently lift it osmotically again, and by capillary suction (via their buds, leaves, and fruits) into their crowns. In between happens a reverse osmosis - the endodermis jump - realized by two layers of subcellular mechanical pumps in the endodermis walls which are powered by ATP, or in addition by two analogous layers of such pumps in the exodermis. The thus established root pressure helps forcing the absorbed ground water upward, through the whole plant, and often out again, in the form of guttation, or exudation.

The Physics of E x B-Drifting Jets

It is argued that the physical jets consist of monoenergetic pairplasma performing almost lossfree ExB-drift. The observed broad power-law spectra result on collision with obstacles, via post-acceleration by the (huge) convected Poynting flux.

The Gold Effect: Odyssey of Scientific Research

Seventy-nine physical problems are listed and explained with whose proposed solutions I do not agree. Such disagreements -- even though some of them may simply reflect our preliminary insight into the laws of nature -- have occasionally caused deplorable damage to personal relationships.
