Mechanisms of $D \bar{D}$ pair production in $e^{+} e^{-} \to e^{+} e^{-} D \bar{D}$ and $AA \to AA D \bar{D}$ reactions and production of exotic charmonia

We discuss mechanisms of $D \bar{D}$ pair production in $e^+ e^-$ collisions. We consider the $D^0 {\bar D}^0$-continuum mechanism with the $t/u$-channel $D^*$ vector-meson exchanges, where the $D^* D γ$ coupling constants are derived from the $D^* \to D γ$ decays. For the $D^+ D^-$ channel, we consider mainly the $D^{\pm}$ exchanges. We find a relatively large continuum contribution for the $D^0 {\bar D}^0$ channel and a significantly smaller one for $D^+ D^-$, concluding that the broad bump at $M_{D^0 {\bar D}^0} = 3.8$ GeV observed by the Belle and BaBar Collaborations has a continuum origin rather than corresponding to the broad $χ_{c0}(3860)$ resonance. We also investigate the resonant production of $D \bar{D}$ pairs, including $χ_{c0}(3860)$ and $χ_{c2}(3930)$. The $χ_{c2}(3930)$ meson is a good candidate for the first excited $P$-wave charmonium $χ_{c2}(2P)$ state. This resonance can decay into both $D \bar{D}$ channels; however, its branching fractions are not well known at present. Comparing our model result with $Γ(χ_{c2}(2P) \to γγ) = 0.544$ keV (corresponding to the Buchmüller-Tye potential) to the BaBar data, we find $B(χ_{c2}(3930) \to D \bar{D}) = 0.58 \pm 0.13$. We present results for differential distributions in several variables for Belle II kinematics. Finally, we shortly mention predictions for the ultraperipheral heavy-ion reaction $Pb Pb \to Pb Pb D \bar{D}$ for low invariant mass ($M_{D \bar{D}} < 4.3$ GeV) at the LHC.

Two photon decay width of the fully charmed tetraquarks: revisiting prospects for ultraperipheral collisions

We discuss the role of fully heavy tetraquarks in ultraperipheral collisions $AA\to AA\, J/ψJ/ψ$ and $AA \to AA\, γγ$. Two-photon couplings to scalar and tensor tetraquarks are considered. We use relatively recent results of four-body calculation of fully heavy tetraquark wave function within the extended relativized quark model. The corresponding radiative decay widths for different tetraquark states are evaluated using NRQCD factorisation, with LDMEs extracted from the four-body wave functions at the origin. The results are collected in tables. The cross sections for production of pairs of $J/ψ$ mesons and diphotons in UPC of $^{208}Pb + {^{208}Pb}$ collisions are presented. While the couplings for $T_{4c}\left(0^{++}, 2^{++}\right) \to γγ$ are calculated based on the model wave functions, simplified couplings are used for $T_{4c}\left(0^{++}, 2^{++}\right) \to J/ψJ/ψ$. When calculating the energy dependence of the resonant $γγ\to J/ψJ/ψ$ and $γγ\to γγ$ cross section, we employ the total decay widths measured at $Γ_{\rm{tot}}=0.446\,\rm{GeV}$ for $X(6600)$ while $Γ_{\rm{tot}}=0.135\,\rm{GeV}$ for $X(6900)$ in latest CMS data. The resonant terms are compared with continuum contributions for both considered channels. While for the $J/ψJ/ψ$ channel the resonant contributions are larger than continuum ones, for the $γγ$ channels the situation is reversed. The latter result is in clear disagreement with the result obtained from the näive use of vector dominance picture.

Probing GPDs in exclusive electroproduction of dijets

We summarize the formalism for calculating the exclusive dijet production in $e p \to e^{\prime} jj p$ in collinear QCD factorization, using generalized parton distributions as the soft hadronic input modeled in the double distribution approach. We include all leading-order contributions coming from light sea and valence quark exchanges, and gluon exchanges for both light quark-antiquark ($q\bar{q}$) production and also the heavy $c\bar{c}$ final state. We present results for several differential distributions for the cross section evaluated over a broad region of phase space, covering a wide range of inelasticity and photon virtuality. The gluon and sea contributions exhibit similar shapes, whereas the valence contribution, though relatively small, shows a markedly different behavior. The latter becomes particularly noticeable at large $x_{\mathbb{P}}$, a kinematic region not explored at HERA, but potentially accessible in future measurements at the Electron Ion Collider. This requires further feasibility studies. We also present the azimuthal angle modulation between the leptonic and the outgoing dijet planes for the general case, as well as for the ZEUS kinematic region where we see reasonable agreement with the data for diffractive deep inelastic scattering parameter $β\gtrsim 0.4$.

Inclusive heavy meson photoproduction in $pPb$ and $PbPb$ collisions

The inclusive photoproduction of heavy mesons in ultraperipheral $pPb$ and $PbPb$ collisions at the LHC energies is investigated considering the color dipole $S$-matrix formalism and assuming distinct models for the unintegrated gluon distribution, based on different assumptions for the description of the QCD dynamics. In particular, predictions for the $B^0$-meson photoproduction are presented here for the first time. The study of the $D^0$-meson photoproduction is revisited by estimating the impact of the treatment of the heavy charm fragmentation on the predictions and extended for $pPb$ collisions. Moreover, the contribution associated with the $b \rightarrow D^0$ transition is estimated. Our results indicate that a future experimental analysis of the heavy meson photoproduction will provide important constrains on the description of the hadronic structure at high energies.

Competition of $χ_{c}(2P)$ quarkonia and continuum in $e^+ e^- \to e^+ e^- D \bar{D}$

We discuss the production of $D \bar{D}$ pairs in $e^+ e^-$ collisions, where $D$ refers to either $D^0$ or $D^+$. The continuum mechanism with the $t/u$-channel vector-meson $D^*$ exchanges are considered. The results of the calculation depend on the parameter of the off-shell form-factor for the virtual $D^*$ mesons. The $D^* D γ$ coupling constants are found from the $D^* \to D γ$ decays. We find relatively large contribution for the $D^0 {\bar D}^0$ channel and much smaller contribution in the $D^+ D^-$ channel. In the second case we consider also the $D^{\pm}$ exchanges. We conclude that the bump at $M_{D^0 {\bar D}^0} = 3.8$ GeV observed by the Belle and BaBar Collaborations has rather continuum origin than it corresponds to the broad resonance $χ_{c0}(3860)$. We discuss also production of the $χ_{c2}(3930)$ resonance which is a candidate for the $χ_{c2}(2P)$ state. This state can decay into both $D \bar{D}$ channels, however the branching fractions are not well known at present. From a comparison of our model results to the BaBar data we find $B(χ_{c2}(3930) \to D \bar{D}) = 0.58 \pm 0.13$ using the two-photon width $Γ_{γγ} = 0.544$ keV (obtained for the Buchmüller-Tye potential) evaluated within the light-front approach (NRQCD limit). Our finding of $Γ_{γγ} \times B(χ_{c2}(3930) \to D \bar{D}) = 0.32 \pm 0.07$ keV is close to the Belle and BaBar results. Realistic predictions of the differential distributions in several variables and integrated cross-sections are given for the Belle II kinematics.

Transition Form-Factor for $η_Q$ at NNLO in the strong coupling $α_s$ and with all-order $v^2$ resummation

In this work, we discuss both relativistic and perturbative QCD corrections to the transition form-factor ${\cal F}_{η_Q}{(t_1,t_2)}$ for the process $γ^*(q_1) γ^*(q_2) \leftrightarrow η_Q(P)$ with dependencies on the normalised photon virtualities $t_1=q_1^2/m_Q^2$ and $t_2=q_2^2/m_Q^2$, where $m_Q$ is the heavy quark mass. We resum a class of relativistic corrections to all orders in the relativistic parameter $\langle v^2 \rangle_{η_Q}$. In addition, we include perturbative QCD corrections up to Next-to-Next-to-Leading Order (NNLO) in the strong coupling constant $α_s$. This involves the computation of two-loop amplitudes with two off-shell photons. We explore three different phenomenological applications of our transition form-factors for the charmonium case. We first study the ratio $\vert {\cal F}_{η_c}{(t_1,0)} \vert/ \vert {\cal F}_{η_c}{(0,0)} \vert$ for the single space-like photon case and compare our results with the existing $η_c$ measurements from the BaBar collaboration. Secondly, we consider observables for the case of double space-like photons and discuss the impact of the different corrections. The NNLO corrections for this case are presented here for the first time in the literature. Finally, we revisit the decay width $Γ[η_c \rightarrow γγ]$ and compare it with the existing PDG value.

Dilepton angular distributions in the color-dipole $S$-matrix framework

The dilepton production at forward rapidities in hadronic collisions at the LHC energies is considered and the helicity density matrix elements of gauge bosons that enter the Drell--Yan angular coefficients associated with the gauge boson decay ($G = γ^*, Z^0, W$) are derived using the color-dipole $S$ - matrix framework. We show results for $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 14$ TeV for the nonvanishing helicity density matrix elements in the rapidity range of $2.0 \le y \le 4.0$ of the gauge boson. We consider different models for the proton unintegrated gluon distributions, among others a solution of the Balitsky--Kovchegov equation. We compare the associated predictions with those obtained disregarding the non-linear term in the evolution equation. In addition, the Lam--Tung relation is discussed.

Photoinduced inclusive cross sections in hadronic collisions at the LHC

We discuss inclusive electromagnetic dissociation processes in proton--proton ($pp$) and proton--nucleus ($pA$) scattering at the LHC where one or both of the protons dissociate. These processes which involve the exchange of a virtual photon in the $t$--channel are calculable in terms of deep inelastic structure functions (virtual photoabsorption cross sections). For the $pA \to XA$ reaction there emerges the possibility of measuring the total photoabsorption cross section on the proton at very high energies.

Investigating the inclusive $D^0$ photoproduction in ultraperipheral $PbPb$ collisions at the Large Hadron Collider

The inclusive $D^0$ photoproduction in $PbPb$ collisions at the center - of - mass energies of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is investigated considering the color dipole $S$ - matrix approach. The analytical expressions for the differential distributions are derived in the impact parameter and transverse momentum spaces and predictions for the rapidity and transverse momentum distributions are presented considering three distinct models for the unintegrated gluon distribution of the nuclear target. In particular, we compare the predictions derived assuming a linear dynamics, with and without the inclusion of nuclear effects, with those obtained by solving the running coupling Balitsky - Kovchegov equation. A comparison of these predictions with the recent (preliminary) CMS data is also performed. Our results indicate that a detailed analysis of this observable will be very useful to improve our understanding of the strong interaction theory at high energies and in a nuclear medium.

Associated jet + electroweak gauge boson production in hadronic collisions at forward rapidities in the color-dipole $S$-matrix framework

The cross-section for the associated production of a jet with an electroweak gauge boson ($G = W^{\pm}, Z^0, γ$) at forward rapidities in $pp$ and $pA$ collisions is derived within the color - dipole $S$ - matrix framework. We present the full expressions for the differential cross-section of the $q p \rightarrow G q X$ process in the transverse momentum space, considering the longitudinal and transverse polarizations of the gauge boson. We demonstrate that the final formulae can be expressed in terms of the unintegrated gluon distribution and reproduce previous results for the associated jet + $γ$ and jet + $Z^0$ production, derived using other frameworks. Moreover, we derive the back - to - back correlation limit of the spectra and show that it can be expressed in terms of the unpolarized and linearly polarized transverse momentum gluon distributions. Our results improve the description of the inclusive jet plus color neutral particle production at forward rapidities, not far from the proton fragmentation region, in $pp$ or $pA$ collisions, and are the main ingredient to study the impact of nonlinear QCD effects in two - particle correlations.

A Cupola-Shaped Multimode Multiport Antenna for Aerial Direction Finding

A multimode multiport antenna (M$^3$PA), constisting of a single conducting structure, is proposed for use with the airborne collision avoidance system (ACAS). Its cupola-shaped surface is selected from a set of aerodynamically suitable and symmetric structures. The selection is based on a presented statistical evaluation procedure for direction-finding (DF) antennas and algorithms, which predicts the root mean square error (RMSE) of the estimation using characteristic modes (CMs). A demonstrator antenna and feed network is manufactured and its three ports are measured in an anechoic chamber. The results match the intended far-fields of an electric monopole and two magnetic dipoles. The presented flight test results show that the antenna is capable of unambiguous DF across the desired angular range in a real world environment.

Gluon shadowing in nuclei and the role of the $c \bar c g$ state in the coherent photoproduction of $J/ψ$ in nucleus-nucleus collisions

In this brief note, we confront our results on diffractive photoproduction of $J/ψ$ mesons with the putative gluon shadowing ratio defined as $R_g= \sqrt{σ(γA \to J/ψA)/σ_{\rm IA.}}$, where $σ_{\rm IA}$ is the result in impulse approximation. Building on our earlier description of the process in the color-dipole approach, where we took into account the rescattering of $c \bar c$ states only, we demonstrate that the inclusion of $c \bar c g$-Fock states improves the description at small $x$ commonly associated with gluon shadowing.

Production of electroweak gauge bosons at forward rapidities in the color - dipole $S$ - matrix framework

The cross-section for the production of an electroweak gauge boson ($G = W^{\pm}, Z^0, γ$) at forward rapidities in $pp$ collisions is derived within the color - dipole $S$ - matrix framework. We present the full expressions for the differential cross-section of the $q p \rightarrow G X$ process in the impact parameter and transverse momentum spaces, considering the longitudinal and transverse polarizations of the gauge boson. The particular cases associated with the Drell - Yan process and real photon production are discussed. We demonstrate that the final formulae are expressed in terms of the dipole - proton cross-section or the unintegrated gluon distribution, and can be used to estimate the impact of the saturation effects in the gauge boson production at the LHC and future colliders.

Probing gluon GTMDs of the proton in deep inelastic diffractive dijet production at HERA

We calculate several differential distributions for diffractive dijets production in $e p \to e' {\rm jet \, jet} p$ in the pQCD dipole approach using off diagonal unintegrated gluon distributions (GTMDs). Different models from the literature are used. We concentrate on the contribution from exclusive $q \bar q$ dijets. Results of our calculations are compared to H1 and ZEUS data, including specific experimental cuts in our calculations. In general, except of one GTMD, our results are below the HERA data. The considered mechanism is expected to gives a sizeable contribution to the ZEUS data, while it is negligible in the kinematics of the H1 measurement. This is in contrast to recent results from the literature where the normalization was adjusted to some selected distributions of H1 collaboration and no agreement with other observables was checked. The ZEUS data provide stricter limitations on the GTMDs than the H1 data. We conclude, based on comparison to different observables, that the calculated cross sections are only a small fraction of the measured ones which contain probably also processes with pomeron remnant. Alternatively the experimental data could be explained by inclusion of $q \bar q g$ component. We present also azimuthal correlations between the sum and the difference of dijet transverse momenta. The cuts on transverse momenta of jets generate corresponding azimuthal correlations which can be misidentified as due to elliptic gluon distributions.

$χ_{c2}$ tensor meson transition form factors in the light front approach

We continue our work on the light-front formulation of quarkonium $γ^* γ$ transition form factors, extending the formalism to $J^{PC} = 2^{++}$ tensor meson states. We present an analysis of $γ^* γ\to χ_{c2}$ transition amplitude and the pertinent helicity form factors. Our relativistic formalism is based on the light-front quark-antiquark wave function of the quarkonium. We calculate the two-photon decay width as well as three independent $γ^* γ$ transition form factors for $J_z = 0,1,2$ as a function of photon virtuality $Q^2$. We compare our results for the two-photon decay width to the recently measured ones by the Belle and BES III collaborations. Even when including relativistic corrections, a very small $Γ(λ= 0)/Γ(λ= 2)\sim10^{-3}$ ratio is found which is beyond present experimental precision. We also present the form factors as a function of photon virtuality and compare them to the sparse experimental data on the so-called off-shell width. The formalism presented here can be used for other $2^{++}$ mesons, excited charmonia or bottomonia or even light $q \bar q$-mesons.

Probing proton structure with $c \bar c$ correlations in ultraperipheral $pA$ collisions

We study the exclusive diffractive $c \bar c$ photoproduction in ultraperipheral $pA$ collisions. The formalism makes use of off-diagonal generalizations of the unintegrated gluon distribution, the so-called generalized transverse momentum dependent distributions (GTMDs). We present two different formulations. The first one is based directly on gluon GTMD parametrizations in momentum space. Another option is the calculation of the GTMD as a Fourier transform of the dipole-nucleon scattering amplitude $N(Y,\vec{r}_{\perp},\vec{b}_{\perp})$. The latter approach requires some extra regularization discussed in the paper. Different dipole amplitudes from the literature are used. Compared to previous calculations in the literature, we integrate over the full phase space and therefore cross sections for realistic conditions are obtained. We present distributions in rapidity of $c$ or $\bar c$, transverse momentum of the $c \bar c$ pair, four-momentum transfer squared as well as the azimuthal correlation between a sum and a difference of the $c$ and $\bar c$ transverse momenta. The azimuthal correlations are partially due to the so-called elliptic gluon Wigner distribution. Different models lead to different modulations in the azimuthal angle. The modulations are generally smaller than 5%. They depend on the range of transverse momentum selected for the calculation.

Exclusive $η_c$ production by $γ^{*} γ$ interactions in electron-ion collisions

One of the main goals of future electron-ion colliders is to improve our understanding of the structure of hadrons. In this letter, we study the exclusive $η_c$ production by $γ^{*} γ$ interactions in $eA$ collisions and demonstrate that future experimental analysis of this process can be used to improve the description of the $η_c$ transition form factor. The rapidity, transverse momentum and photon virtuality distributions are estimated considering the energy and target configurations expected to be present at the EIC, EicC and LHeC and assuming different predictions for the light-front wave function of the $η_c$ meson. Our results indicate that the electron-ion colliders can be considered an alternative to providing supplementary data to those obtained in $e^- e^+$ colliders.

Probing the structure of $χ_{c1}(3872)$ with photon transition form factors

We propose to study the structure of the enigmatic $χ_{c1}(3872)$ axial vector meson through its $γ^*_L γ\to χ_{c1}(3872)$ transition form factor. We derive a light-front wave function representation of the form factor for the lowest $c \bar c$ Fock-state. We found that the reduced width of the state is well within the current experimental bound recently published by the Belle collaboration. This strongly suggests a crucial role of the $c \bar c$ Fock-state in the photon-induced production. Our results for the $Q^2$ dependence can be tested by future single tagged $e^+ e^-$ experiments, giving further insights into the short-distance structure of this meson.
