Transference of local to global $L^2$ maximal estimates for dispersive partial differential equations

In this paper we give an elementary proof for transference of local to global maximal estimates for dispersive PDEs. This is done by transferring local $L^2$ estimates for certain oscillatory integrals with rough phase functions, to the corresponding global estimates. The elementary feature of our approach is that it entirely avoids the use of the wave packet techniques which are quite common in this context, and instead is based on scalings and classical oscillatory integral estimates.

A Model of the Teichmüller space of genus-zero bordered surfaces by period maps

We consider Riemann surfaces $Σ$ with $n$ borders homeomorphic to $\mathbb{S}^1$ and no handles. Using generalized Grunsky operators, we define a period mapping from the infinite-dimensional Teichmüller space of surfaces of this type into the unit ball in the linear space of operators on an $n$-fold direct sum of Bergman spaces of the disk. We show that this period mapping is holomorphic and injective.

Comparison moduli spaces of Riemann surfaces

We define a kind of moduli space of nested surfaces and mappings, which we call a comparison moduli space. We review examples of such spaces in geometric function theory and modern Teichmueller theory, and illustrate how a wide range of phenomena in complex analysis are captured by this notion of moduli space. The paper includes a list of open problems in classical and modern function theory and Teichmueller theory ranging from general theoretical questions to specific technical problems.

Quasiconformal Teichmuller theory as an analytical foundation for two-dimensional conformal field theory

The functorial mathematical definition of conformal field theory was first formulated approximately 30 years ago. The underlying geometric category is based on the moduli space of Riemann surfaces with parametrized boundary components and the sewing operation. We survey the recent and careful study of these objects, which has led to significant connections with quasiconformal Teichmuller theory and geometric function theory. In particular we propose that the natural analytic setting for conformal field theory is the moduli space of Riemann surfaces with so-called Weil-Petersson class parametrizations. A collection of rigorous analytic results is advanced here as evidence. This class of parametrizations has the required regularity for CFT on one hand, and on the other hand are natural and of interest in their own right in geometric function theory.

Harmonic reflection in quasicircles and well-posedness of a Riemann-Hilbert problem on quasidisks

A complex harmonic function of finite Dirichlet energy on a Jordan domain has boundary values in a certain conformally invariant sense, by a construction of H. Osborn. We call the set of such boundary values the Douglas-Osborn space. One may then attempt to solve the Dirichlet problem on the complement for these boundary values. This defines a reflection of harmonic functions. We show that quasicircles are precisely those Jordan curves for which this reflection is defined and bounded. We then use a limiting Cauchy integral along level curves of Green's function to show that the Plemelj-Sokhotski jump formula holds on quasicircles with boundary data in the Douglas-Osborn space. This enables us to prove the well-posedness of a Riemann-Hilbert problem with boundary data in the Douglas-Osborn space on quasicircles.

Solvability of the Dirichlet, Neumann and the regularity problems for parabolic equations with Hölder continuous coefficients

We establish the $L^2$-solvability of Dirichlet, Neumann and regularity problems for divergence-form heat (or diffusion) equations with Hölder-continuous diffusion coefficients, on bounded Lipschitz domains in $\mathbb{R}^n$. This is achieved through the demonstration of invertibility of the relevant layer-potentials which is in turn based on Fredholm theory and a new systematic approach which yields suitable parabolic Rellich-type estimates.

Estimates for rough Fourier integral and pseudodifferential operators and applications to the boundedness of multilinear operators

We study the boundedness of rough Fourier integral and pseudodifferential operators, defined by general rough Hörmander class amplitudes, on Banach and quasi-Banach $L^p$ spaces. Thereafter we apply the aforementioned boundedness in order to improve on some of the existing boundedness results for Hörmander class bilinear pseudodifferential operators and certain classes of bilinear (as well as multilinear) Fourier integral operators. For these classes of amplitudes, the boundedness of the aforementioned Fourier integral operators turn out to be sharp. Furthermore we also obtain results for rough multilinear operators.

Some endpoint estimates for bilinear paraproducts and applications

In this paper we establish the boundedness of bilinear paraproducts on local BMO spaces. As applications, we also investigate the boundedness of bilinear Fourier integral operators and bilinear Coifman-Meyer multipliers on these spaces and also obtain a certain end-point result concerning Kato-Ponce type estimates.

Dirichlet space of multiply connected domains with Weil-Petersson class boundaries

The restricted class of quasicircles sometimes called the "Weil-Petersson-class" has been a subject of interest in the last decade. In this paper we establish a Sokhotski-Plemelj jump formula for WP-class quasicircles, for boundary data in a certain conformally invariant Besov space. We show that this Besov space is precisely the set of traces on the boundary of harmonic functions of finite Dirichlet energy on the WP-class quasidisk. We apply this result to multiply connected domains, Sigma, which are the complement of n+1 WP-class quasidisks. Namely, we give a bounded isomorphism between the Dirichlet space D(Sigma) of Sigma and a direct sum of Dirichlet spaces, D-, of the unit disk. Writing the quasidisks as images of the disk under conformal maps (f_0,...,f_n), we also show that {(h \circ f_0,...,h \circ f_n) : h \in D(Sigma)} is the graph of a certain bounded Grunsky operator on D-.

A convergent Weil-Petersson metric on the Teichmüller space of bordered Riemann surfaces

Let $Σ$ be a Riemann surface of genus $g$ bordered by $n$ curves homeomorphic to the circle $\mathbb{S}^1$, and assume that $2g+2-n>0$. For such bordered Riemann surfaces, the authors have previously defined a Teichmüller space which is a Hilbert manifold and which is holomorphically included in the standard Teichmüller space. Based on this, we present alternate models of the aforementioned Teichmüller space and show in particular that it is locally modelled on a Hilbert space of $L^2$ Beltrami differentials, which are holomorphic up to a power of the hyperbolic metric, and has a convergent Weil-Petersson metric.

A Seeger-Sogge-Stein theorem for bilinear Fourier integral operators

We establish the regularity of bilinear Fourier integral operators with bilinear amplitudes in $S^m_{1,0} (n,2)$ and non-degenerate phase functions, from $L^p \times L^q \to L^r$ under the assumptions that $m\leq -(n-1)(|\frac{1}{p}-\frac{1}{2}|+|\frac{1}{q}-\frac{1}{2}|)$ and $\frac{1}{p}+\frac{1}{q}=\frac{1}{r}$. This is a bilinear version of the classical theorem of Seeger-Sogge-Stein concerning the $L^p$ boundedness of linear Fourier integral operators. Moreover, our result goes beyond the aforementioned theorem in that it also includes the case of non-Banach target spaces.

A Hilbert manifold structure on the refined Teichmueller space of bordered Riemann surfaces

We consider bordered Riemann surfaces which are biholomorphic to compact Riemann surfaces of genus g with n regions biholomorphic to the disc removed. We define a refined Teichmueller space of such Riemann surfaces and demonstrate that in the case that 2g+2-n>0, this refined Teichmueller space is a Hilbert manifold. The inclusion map from the refined Teichmueller space into the usual Teichmueller space (which is a Banach manifold) is holomorphic. We also show that the rigged moduli space of Riemann surfaces with non-overlapping holomorphic maps, appearing in conformal field theory, is a complex Hilbert manifold. This result requires an analytic reformulation of the moduli space, by enlarging the set of non-overlapping mappings to a class of maps intermediate between analytically extendible maps and quasiconformally extendible maps. Finally we show that the rigged moduli space is the quotient of the refined Teichmueller space by a properly discontinuous group of biholomorphisms.

Multilinear pseudodifferential operators beyond Calderón-Zygmund theory

We consider two types of multilinear pseudodifferential operators. First, we prove the boundedness of multilinear pseudodifferential operators with symbols which are only measurable in the spatial variables in weighted Lebesgue spaces. These results generalise earlier work of the present authors concerning linear pseudo-pseudodifferential operators. Secondly, we investigate the boundedness of bilinear pseudodifferential operators with symbols in the Hörmander $S^{m}_{ρ, δ}$ classes. These results are new in the case $ρ< 1$, that is, outwith the scope of multilinear Calderón-Zygmund theory.

Global boundedness of multilinear Fourier integral operators

We study the global boundedness of bilinear and multilinear Fourier integral operators on Banach and quasi-Banach $L^p$ spaces, where the amplitudes of the operators are smooth or rough in the spatial variables. The results are obtained by proving suitable global boundedness of rough linear Fourier integral operators with amplitudes that behave as $L^{p}$ functions in the spatial variables. The bilinear and multilinear boundedness estimates are proven by using either an iteration procedure or decomposition of the amplitudes, and thereafter applying our global results for linear Fourier integral operators with rough amplitudes.

On the boundedness of certain bilinear Fourier integral operators

We prove the global $L^2 \times L^2 \to L^1$ boundedness of bilinear Fourier integral operators with amplitudes in $S^0_{1,0} (n,2)$. To achieve this, we require that the phase function can be written as $(x,ξ,η) \mapsto \phase_1(x,ξ) + \phase_2(x,η)$ where each $\phase_j$ belongs to the class $Φ^2$ and satisfies the strong non-degeneracy condition. This result extends that of R. Coifman and Y. Meyer regarding pseudodifferential operators to the case of Fourier integral operators.

Global and local regularity of Fourier integral operators on weighted and unweighted spaces

We investigate the global continuity on $L^p$ spaces with $p\in [1,\infty]$ of Fourier integral operators with smooth and rough amplitudes and/or phase functions subject to certain non-degeneracy conditions. We initiate the investigation of the continuity of smooth and rough Fourier integral operators on weighted $L^{p}$ spaces, $L_{w}^p$ with $1< p < \infty$ and $w\in A_{p},$ (i.e. the Muckenhoput weights), and establish weighted norm inequalities for operators with rough and smooth amplitudes and phase functions satisfying a suitable rank condition. These results are then applied to prove weighted and unweighted estimates for the commutators of Fourier integral operators with functions of bounded mean oscillation BMO, then to some estimates on weighted Triebel-Lizorkin spaces, and finally to global unweighted and local weighted estimates for the solutions of the Cauchy problem for $m$-th and second order hyperbolic partial differential equations on $\mathbf{R}^n .$

Semiclassical analysis of low and zero energy scattering for one dimensional Schrödinger operators with inverse square potentials

This paper studies the scattering matrix $Σ(E;\hbar)$ of the problem \[ -\hbar^2 ψ''(x) + V(x) ψ(x) = Eψ(x) \] for positive potentials $V\in C^\infty(\R)$ with inverse square behavior as $x\to\pm\infty$. It is shown that each entry takes the form $Σ_{ij}(E;\hbar)=Σ_{ij}^{(0)}(E;\hbar)(1+\hbar σ_{ij}(E;\hbar))$ where $Σ_{ij}^{(0)}(E;\hbar)$ is the WKB approximation relative to the {\em modified potential} $V(x)+\frac{\hbar^2}{4} \la x\ra^{-2}$ and the correction terms $σ_{ij}$ satisfy $|\partial_E^k σ_{ij}(E;\hbar)| \le C_k E^{-k}$ for all $k\ge0$ and uniformly in $(E,\hbar)\in (0,E_0)\times (0,\hbar_0)$ where $E_0,\hbar_0$ are small constants. This asymptotic behavior is not universal: if $-\hbar^2\partial_x^2 + V$ has a {\em zero energy resonance}, then $Σ(E;\hbar)$ exhibits different asymptotic behavior as $E\to0$. The resonant case is excluded here due to $V>0$.
