The Neighbor Graph of Linear Complementary Dual (LCD) Codes

Linear complementary dual (LCD) codes form an important class of linear codes with applications in cryptography, classical error correction, and quantum coding theory. In this paper, we study the neighbor relation on LCD codes over finite fields and the graph induced by this relation, where two codes are adjacent whenever they intersect in codimension one. We determine the number of neighbors of an LCD code that are also LCD, and we use this result to analyze the structure of the corresponding neighbor graph. In particular, we prove its regularity over arbitrary finite fields and establish further regularity properties for its main structural subgraphs in the binary and odd-characteristic cases. These results provide a graph-theoretic framework for the study of LCD codes and reveal a strong combinatorial regularity in their neighborhood structure.

Twisted skew $G$-codes

In this paper we investigate left ideals as codes in twisted skew group rings. The considered rings, which are often algebras over a finite field, allows us to detect many of the well-known codes. The presentation, given here, unifies the concept of group codes, twisted group codes and skew group codes.

On ideals in group algebras: an uncertainty principle and the Schur product

In this paper we investigate some properties of ideals in group algebras of finite groups over fields. First, we highlight an important link between their dimension, their minimal Hamming distance and the group order. This is a generalized version of an uncertainty principle shown in 1992 by Meshulam. Secondly, we introduce the notion of the Schur product of ideals in group algebras and investigate the module structure and the dimension of the Schur square. We give a structural result on ideals that coincide with their Schur square, and we provide conditions for an ideal to be such that its Schur square has the projective cover of the trivial module as a direct summand. This has particularly interesting consequences for group algebras of p-groups over fields of characteristic p.

On the algebraic structure of quasi group codes

In this note, an intrinsic description of some families of linear codes with symmetries is given, showing that they can be described more generally as quasi group codes, that is, as linear codes allowing a group of permutation automorphisms which acts freely on the set of coordinates. An algebraic description, including the concatenated structure, of such codes is presented. This allows to construct quasi group codes from codes over rings, and vice versa. The last part of the paper is dedicated to the investigation of self-duality of quasi group codes.

On checkable codes in group algebras

We classify, in terms of the structure of the finite group G, all group algebras KG for which all right ideals are right annihilators of principal left ideals. This means in the language of coding theory that we classify code-checkable group algebras KG which have been considered so far only for abelian groups G. Optimality of checkable codes and asymptotic results are discussed.

Group codes over fields are asymptotically good

Group codes are right or left ideals in a group algebra of a finite group over a finite field. Following ideas of Bazzi and Mitter on group codes over the binary field, we prove that group codes over finite fields of any characteristic are asymptotically good.

A Note on Linear Complementary Pairs of Group Codes

We give a short and elementary proof of the fact that for a linear complementary pair $(C,D)$, where $C$ and $D$ are $2$-sided ideals in a group algebra, $D$ is uniquely determined by $C$ and the dual code $D^\perp$ is permutation equivalent to $C$. This includes earlier results of Carlet et al. and Güneri et al. on nD cyclic codes which have been proved by subtle and lengthy calculations in the space of polynomials.

Algebraic structures of MRD Codes

Based on results in finite geometry we prove the existence of MRD codes in (F_q)_(n,n) with minimum distance n which are essentially different from Gabidulin codes. The construction results from algebraic structures which are closely related to those of finite fields. Some of the results may be known to experts, but to our knowledge have never been pointed out explicitly in the literature.

On self-dual MRD codes

We determine the automorphism group of Gabidulin codes of full length and characterise when these codes are equivalent to self-dual codes.

On the Automorphisms of Order 15 for a Binary Self-Dual [96, 48, 20] Code

The structure of binary self-dual codes invariant under the action of a cyclic group of order $pq$ for odd primes $p\neq q$ is considered. As an application we prove the nonexistence of an extremal self-dual $[96, 48, 20]$ code with an automorphism of order $15$ which closes a gap in `"On extremal self-dual codes of length 96", IEEE Trans. Inf. Theory, vol. 57, pp. 6820-6823, 2011'.

Automorphism of order 2p in binary self-dual extremal codes of length a multiple of 24

Let C be a binary self-dual code with an automorphism g of order 2p, where p is an odd prime, such that g^p is a fixed point free involution. If C is extremal of length a multiple of 24 all the involutions are fixed point free, except the Golay Code and eventually putative codes of length 120. Connecting module theoretical properties of a self-dual code C with coding theoretical ones of the subcode C(g^p) which consists of the set of fixed points of g^p, we prove that C is a projective F_2 -module if and only if a natural projection of C(g^p) is a self-dual code. We then discuss easy to handle criteria to decide if C is projective or not. As an application we consider in the last part extremal self-dual codes of length 120, proving that their automorphism group does not contain elements of order 38 and 58.

On the Automorphism Group of a Binary Self-dual [120, 60, 24] Code

We prove that an automorphism of order 3 of a putative binary self-dual [120, 60, 24] code C has no fixed points. Moreover, the order of the automorphism group of C divides 2^a.3.5.7.19.23.29 where a is a nonegative integer. Automorphisms of odd composite order r may occur only for r=15, 57 or r=115 with corresponding cycle structures 15-(0,0,8;0), 57-(2,0,2;0) or 115-(1,0,1;0), respectively. In case that all involutions act fixed point freely we have |Aut(C)|<=920, and Aut(C) is solvable if it contains an element of prime order p>=7. Moreover, the alternating group A_5 is the only non-abelian composition factor which may occur.

On the dimensions of PIM's

We discuss the structure of finite groups for which the projective indecomposable modules have special given dimensions. In particular, we prove the converse of Fong's dimension formula for $p$-solvable groups. Furthermore, we characterize groups for which all irreducible $p$-Brauer characters have $p$-power degrees.

Singly-even self-dual codes with minimal shadow

In this note we investigate extremal singly-even self-dual codes with minimal shadow. For particular parameters we prove non-existence of such codes. By a result of Rains \cite{Rains-asymptotic}, the length of extremal singly-even self-dual codes is bounded. We give explicit bounds in case the shadow is minimal.

On Morita theory for self-dual modules

Let $G$ be a finite group and let $k$ be a field of characteristic $p$. It is known that a $kG$-module $V$ carries a non-degenerate $G$-invariant bilinear form $b$ if and only if $V$ is self-dual. We show that whenever a Morita bimodule $M$ which induces an equivalence between two blocks $B(kG)$ and $B(kH)$ of group algebras $kG$ and $kH$ is self-dual then the correspondence preserves self-duality. Even more, if the bilinear form on $M$ is symmetric then for $p$ odd the correspondence preserves the geometric type of simple modules. In characteristic 2 this holds also true for projective modules.

A local conjecture on Brauer character degrees of finite groups

Recently, a new conjecture on the degrees of the irreducible Brauer characters of a finite group was presented by the second author. In this paper we propose a 'local' version of this conjecture for blocks B of finite groups, giving a lower bound for the maximal degree of an irreducible Brauer character belonging to B in terms of the dimension of B and well-known invariants like the defect and the number of irreducible Brauer characters. We also propose a weaker version of this conjecture for which a slight reformulation leads to interesting open questions about traces of Cartan matrices of blocks. We then show that the strong conjecture is true for blocks with one simple module, blocks of p-solvable groups and blocks with cyclic defect groups. It also holds for many further examples of blocks of sporadic groups, symmetric groups or groups of Lie type. We also show that the weak conjecture is true for blocks of tame representation type.
