Evaluating the impact of incomplete contact tracing data on urban epidemic dynamics

Contact tracing (CT) is a frontline measure against emerging epidemics, yet in practice it is never complete. The quantitative impact of missing information -- such as untraced cases or unnotified contacts -- on the effectiveness of CT remains insufficiently understood. Using a stochastic agent-based model with sociodemographics from metropolitan areas in South Korea, we simulate how different forms of information loss affect epidemic spreading dynamics. We construct information-loss scenarios based on two types: infector-omission (IO), the omission of infected individuals from the tracing process, and contact-omission (CO), the omission of specific contact events even when the infected individuals themselves are identified. The sensitivity of epidemic dynamics to increasing omission rates differs markedly between the two types: IO produces substantially stronger and more abrupt changes in transmission structure and epidemic outcomes, whereas CO produces more gradual effects. Notably, CT effectiveness breaks down beyond a city-specific threshold -- an IO rate of approximately 4% in Seoul but about 10% in less populous Busan -- underscoring that CT strategies must be tailored to regional population and mobility structure. Both IO and CO scenarios also lead to an increase in the transmission network diameter as information loss grows, indicating that a small network diameter reflects effective contact tracing that limits the depth of transmission chains. Collectively, our results offer threshold estimates and practical guidance for designing robust CT systems in the real world.

Oscillation death in coupled counter-rotating identical nonlinear oscillators

We study oscillatory and oscillation suppressed phases in coupled counter-rotating nonlinear oscillators. We demonstrate the existence of limit cycle, amplitude death, and oscillation death, and also clarify the Hopf, pitchfork, and infinite period bifurcations between them. Especially, the oscillation death is a new type of oscillation suppressions of which the inhomogeneous steady states are neutrally stable. We discuss the robust neutral stability of the oscillation death in non-conservative systems via the anti-PT-symmetric phase transitions at exceptional points in terms of non-Hermitian systems.

Amplitude death in a ring of nonidentical nonlinear oscillators with unidirectional coupling

We study the collective behaviors in a ring of coupled nonidentical nonlinear oscillators with unidirectional coupling, of which natural frequencies are distributed in a random way. We find the amplitude death phenomena in the case of unidirectional couplings and discuss the differences between the cases of bidirectional and unidirectional couplings. There are three main differences; there exists neither partial amplitude death nor local clustering behavior but oblique line structure which represents directional signal flow on the spatio-temporal patterns in the unidirectional coupling case. The unidirectional coupling has the advantage of easily obtaining global amplitude death in a ring of coupled oscillators with randomly distributed natural frequency. Finally, we explain the results using the eigenvalue analysis of Jacobian matrix at the origin and also discuss the transition of dynamical behavior coming from connection structure as coupling strength increases.

Exceptional points in coupled dissipative dynamical systems

We study the transient behavior in coupled dissipative dynamical systems based on the linear analysis around the steady state. We find that the transient time is minimized at a specific set of system parameters and show that at this parameter set, two eigenvalues and two eigenvectors of Jacobian matrix coalesce at the same time, this degenerate point is called the exceptional point. For the case of coupled limit cycle oscillators, we investigate the transient behavior into the amplitude death state, and clarify that the exceptional point is associated with a critical point of frequency locking, as well as the transition of the envelope oscillation.

Time Delay Effect on the Love Dynamical Model

We investigate the effect of time delay on the dynamical model of love. The local stability analysis proves that the time delay on the return function can cause a Hopf bifurcation and a cyclic love dynamics. The condition for the occurrence of the Hopf bifurcation is also clarified. Through a numerical bifurcation analysis, we confirm the theoretical predictions on the Hopf bifurcation and obtain a universal bifurcation structure consisting of a supercritical Hopf bifurcation and a cascade of period-doubling bifurcations, i.e., a period doubling route to chaos.

Chaotic universe in the z=2 Hovava-Lifshitz gravity

The deformed z=2 Horava-Lifshitz gravity with coupling constant w leads to a nonrelativistic "mixmaster" cosmological model. The potential of theory is given by the sum of IR and UV potentials in the ADM Hamiltonian formalism. It turns out that adding the UV-potential cannot suppress chaotic behaviors existing in the IR-potential.

Mixmaster universe in the z=3 deformed Hořava-Lifshitz gravity

The z=3 deformed Horava-Lifshitz gravity with coupling constants ωand εleads to a nonrelativistic "mixmaster" cosmological model. The potential of theory is given by the sum of IR and UV potentials in the ADM Hamiltonian formalism. It turns out that the presence of the UV-potential cannot suppress chaotic behaviors existing in the IR-potential, which comes from curvature anisotropy.

An efficient finite element method applied to quantum billiard systems

An efficient finite element method (FEM) for calculating eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of quantum billiard systems is presented. We consider the FEM based on triangular $C_1$ continuity quartic interpolation. Various shapes of quantum billiards including an integrable unit circle are treated. The numerical results show that the applied method provides accurate set of eigenvalues exceeding a thousand levels for any shape of quantum billiards on a personal computer. Comparison with the results from the FEM based on well-known $C_0$ continuity quadratic interpolation proves the efficiency of the method.

Transport control in deterministic ratchet system

We study the control of transport properties in a deterministic inertia ratchet system via the extended delay feedback method. A chaotic current of a deterministic inertia ratchet system is controlled to a regular current by stabilizing unstable periodic orbits embedded in a chaotic attractor of the unperturbed system. By selecting an unstable periodic orbit, which has a desired transport property, and stabilizing it via the extended delay feedback method, we can control transport properties of the deterministic inertia ratchet system. Also, we show that the extended delay feedback method can be utilized for separation of particles in the deterministic inertia ratchet system as a particle's initial condition varies.
