Accelerating Expansion of the Universe

This thesis concentrates on the accelerated expansion of the Universe recently explored by measurements of redshift and luminosity-distance relations of type Ia Supernovae. We have considered a model of the universe filled with modified Chaplygin gas and barotropic fluid. The role of dynamical cosmological constant has been explored with Modified Chaplygin Gas as the background fluid. Various phenomenological models for Λhave been studied in presence of the gravitational constant G to be constant or time dependent. A new form of the well known Chaplygin gas model has been presented by introducing inhomogeneity in the EOS. This model explains w=-1 crossing. An interaction of this model with the scalar field has also been investigated through a phenomenological coupling function. Tachyonic field has been depicted as dark energy model to represent the present acceleration of the Universe. A mixture of the tachyonic fluid has been considered with Generalized Chaplygin Gas to show the role of the later as a dark energy candidate in presence of tachyonic matter. A model of interaction has been studied with scalar field and the inhomogeneous ideal fluid. Two forms of the ideal fluid have been analysed. A power law expansion for the scale factor has been assumed to solve the equations for the energy densities. Brans-Dicke theory has been used to investigate the possibility of obtaining cosmic acceleration. For this purpose a constant and a variable ω(Brans-Dicke parameter) have been considered. A self-interacting potential has been introduced to show its role in the evolution of the Universe. This model has been studied in presence of barotropic fluid and Generalized Chaplygin Gas.

A New Variable Modified Chaplygin Gas Model Interacting with Scalar Field

In this letter we present a new form of the well known Chaplygin gas model by introducing inhomogeneity in the EOS. This model explains $ω=-1$ crossing. Also we have given a graphical representation of the model using $\{r,s\}$ parameters. We have also considered an interaction of this model with the scalar field by introducing a phenomenological coupling function and have shown that the potential decays with time.

Role of Brans-Dicke Theory with or without self-interacting potential in cosmic acceleration

In this work we have studied the possibility of obtaining cosmic acceleration in Brans-Dicke theory with varying or constant $ω$ (Brans- Dicke parameter) and with or without self-interacting potential, the background fluid being barotropic fluid or Generalized Chaplygin Gas. Here we take the power law form of the scale factor and the scalar field. We show that accelerated expansion can also be achieved for high values of $ω$ for closed Universe.

Role of Tachyonic Field in Accelerating Universe in Presence of Perfect Fluid

Recently tachyonic field has been depicted as dark energy model to represent the present acceleration of the Universe. In this paper we have considered mixture of tachyonic fluid with a perfect fluid. For this purpose we have considered barotropic fluid and Generalized Chaplygin gas(G.C.G.). We have considered a particular form of the scale factor. We have solved the equations of motion to get the exact solutions of the density, tachyonic potential and the tachyonic field. We have introduced a coupling term to show that the interaction decays with time. Also we have shown that the nature of the potentials vary so as the interaction term reduces the potential in both the cases.

Interaction between scalar field and ideal fluid with inhomogeneous equation of state

In this letter we study a model of interaction between the scalar field and an inhomogeneous ideal fluid. We have considered two forms of the ideal fluid and a power law expansion for the scale factor. We have solved the equations for the energy densities. Also we show that besides being a dark energy model to explain the cosmic acceleration, this model shows a decaying nature of the scalar field potential and the interaction parameter.

Generalized Cosmic Chaplygin Gas Model with or without Interaction

Recently developed Generalized Cosmic Chaplygin gas (GCCG) is studied as an unified model of dark matter and dark energy. To explain the recent accelerating phase, the Universe is assumed to have a mixture of radiation and GCCG. The mixture is considered for without or with interaction. Solutions are obtained for various choices of the parameters and trajectories in the plane of the statefinder parameters and presented graphically. For particular choice of interaction parameter, we have shown the role of statefinder parameters in various cases for the evolution of the Universe.

Effect of Dynamical Cosmological Constant in presence of Modified Chaplygin Gas for Accelerating Universe

In this paper we have considered the Universe to be filled with Modified Gas and the Cosmological Constant $Λ$ to be time-dependent with or without the Gravitational Constant $G$ to be time-dependent. We have considered various phenomenological models for $Λ$, viz., $Λ\proptoρ, Λ\propto\frac{\dot{a}^{2}}{a^{2}}$ and $Λ\propto\frac{\ddot{a}}{a}$. Using these models it is possible to show the accelerated expansion of the Universe at the present epoch. Also we have shown the natures of $G$ and $Λ$ over the total age of the Universe. Using the statefinder parameters we have shown the diagramamtical representation of the evolution of the Universe starting from radiation era to $Λ$CDM model.

Godel Type Metrics in Randall Sundrum Model

Anisotropic cosmological models such as the Gödel universe and its extensions - Gödel type solutions, are embedded on a visible 3-brane in the Randall-Sundrum 1 model. The size of the extra dimension is stabilized by tuning the rotation parameter to a very small value so that hierarchy problem can be solved. A limiting case also yields the Randall-Sundrum 2 model. The rotation parameter on the visible brane turns out to be of order $10^{-32}$, which implies that visible brane essentially lacks rotation.
