On the real-time evolution of pseudo-entropy in 2d CFTs

In this work, we study the real-time evolution of pseudo-(Rényi) entropy, a generalization of entanglement entropy, in two-dimensional conformal field theories (CFTs). We focus on states obtained by acting primary operators located at different space points or their linear combinations on the vacuum. We show the similarities and differences between the pseudo-(Rényi) entropy and entanglement entropy. For excitation by a single primary operator, we analyze the behaviors of the 2nd pseudo-Rényi entropy in various limits and find some symmetries associated with the subsystem and the positions of the insertion operators. For excitation by linear combinations, the late time limit of the $n$th pseudo-Rényi entropy shows a simple form related to the coefficients of the combinations and Rényi entropy of the operators, which can be derived by using the Schmidt decomposition. Further, we find two kinds of particular spatial configurations of insertion operators in one of which the pseudo-(Rényi) entropy remains real throughout the time evolution.

Position and momentum operators for a moving particle in bulk

In this paper we explore how to describe a bulk moving particle in the dual conformal field theories (CFTs). One aspect of this problem is to construct the dual state of the moving particle. On the other hand one should find the corresponding operators associated with the particle. The dynamics of the particle, i.e., the geodesic equation, can be formulated as a Hamiltonian system with canonical variables. The achievements of our paper are to construct the dual CFT states and the operators corresponding to the canonical variables. The expectation values of the operators give the expected solutions of the geodesic line, and the quantum commutators reduce to the classical Poisson brackets to leading order in the bulk gravitational coupling. Our work provides a framework to understand the geodesic equation, that is gravitational attraction, in the dual CFTs.

The area operator and fixed area states in conformal field theories

The fixed area states are constructed by gravitational path integrals in previous studies. In this paper we show the dual of the fixed area states in conformal field theories (CFTs).These CFT states are constructed by using spectrum decomposition of reduced density matrix $ρ_A$ for a subsystem $A$. For 2 dimensional CFTs we directly construct the bulk metric, which is consistent with the expected geometry of the fixed area states. For arbitrary pure geometric state $|ψ\rangle$ in any dimension we also find the consistency by using the gravity dual of Rényi entropy. We also give the relation of parameters for the bulk and boundary state. The pure geometric state $|ψ\rangle$ can be expanded as superposition of the fixed area states. Motivated by this, we propose an area operator $\hat A^ψ$. The fixed area state is the eigenstate of $\hat A^ψ$, the associated eigenvalue is related to Rényi entropy of subsystem $A$ in this state. The Ryu-Takayanagi formula can be expressed as the expectation value $\langle ψ| {\hat A}^ψ|ψ\rangle$ divided by $4G$, where $G$ is the Newton constant. We also show the fluctuation of the area operator in the geometric state $|ψ\rangle$ is suppressed in the semiclassical limit $G\to0$.

Entanglement spectrum of geometric states

The reduced density matrix of a given subsystem, denoted by $ρ_A$, contains the information on subregion duality in a holographic theory. We may extract the information by using the spectrum (eigenvalue) of the matrix, called entanglement spectrum in this paper. We evaluate the density of eigenstates, one-point and two-point correlation functions in the microcanonical ensemble state $ρ_{A,m}$ associated with an eigenvalue $λ$ for some examples, including a single interval and two intervals in vacuum state of 2D CFTs. We find there exists a microcanonical ensemble state with $λ_0$ which can be seen as an approximate state of $ρ_A$. The parameter $λ_0$ is obtained in the two examples. For a general geometric state, the approximate microcanonical ensemble state also exists. The parameter $λ_0$ is associated with the entanglement entropy of $A$ and Rényi entropy in the limit $n\to \infty$. As an application of the above conclusion we reform the equality case of the Araki-Lieb inequality of the entanglement entropies of two intervals in vacuum state of 2D CFTs as conditions of Holevo information. We show the constraints on the eigenstates. Finally, we point out some unsolved problems and their significance on understanding the geometric states.

Correlations in geometric states

In this paper we explore the correlations in the geometric states. Here the geometric state means the state in CFTs that can be effectively described by classical geometry in the bulk in the semi-classical limit $G\to 0$. By using the upper bound of Holevo informaion we show the covex combination of geometric states cannot be a geometric state. To understand the duality between thermofield double state and eternal black hle, we construct several correlated states of two CFTs. In all the examples we show their correlations are too weak to produce the a connected spacetime. we review the measure named quantum discord and use it to characterize the classical and quantum correlations in quantum field theories. Finally, we discuss the correlations between two intervals $A$ and $B$ with distance $d$ in the vacuum state of 2D CFTs with large central charge $c$. The feature is the phase transition of the mutual information $I(ρ_{AB})$. We analyse the quasi-product state of $ρ_{AB}$ for large $d$. By using the Koashi-Winter relation of tripartite states the quantum and classical correlations between $A$ and $B$ can expressed as Holevo information, which provides a new understanding of the correlations as accessible information.

Rényi entropy at large energy density in 2D CFT

We investigate the Rényi entropy and entanglement entropy of an interval with an arbitrary length in the canonical ensemble, microcanonical ensemble and primary excited states at large energy density in the thermodynamic limit of a two-dimensional large central charge $c$ conformal field theory. As a generalization of the recent work [Phys. Rev. Lett. 122 (2019) 041602], the main purpose of the paper is to see whether one can distinguish these various large energy density states by the Rényi entropies of an interval at different size scales, namely, short, medium and long. Collecting earlier results and performing new calculations in order to compare with and fill gaps in the literature, we give a more complete and detailed analysis of the problem. Especially, we find some corrections to the recent results for the holographic Rényi entropy of a medium size interval, which enlarge the validity region of the results. Based on the Rényi entropies of the three interval scales, we find that Rényi entropy cannot distinguish the canonical and microcanonical ensemble states for a short interval, but can do the job for both medium and long intervals. At the leading order of large $c$ the entanglement entropy cannot distinguish the canonical and microcanonical ensemble states for all interval lengths, but the difference of entanglement entropy for a long interval between the two states would appear with $1/c$ corrections. We also discuss Rényi entropy and entanglement entropy differences between the thermal states and primary excited state. Overall, our work provides an up-to-date picture of distinguishing different thermal or primary states at various length scales of the subsystem.

Non-geometric States in a Holographic Conformal Field Theory

In the AdS$_3$/CFT$_2$ correspondence, we find some conformal field theory (CFT) states that have no bulk description by the Bañados geometry. We elaborate the constraints for a CFT state to be geometric, i.e., having a dual Bañados metric, by comparing the order of central charge of the entanglement/Rényi entropy obtained respectively from the holographic method and the replica trick in CFT. We find that the geometric CFT states fulfill Bohr's correspondence principle by reducing the quantum KdV hierarchy to its classical counterpart. We call the CFT states that satisfy the geometric constraints geometric states, and otherwise non-geometric states. We give examples of both the geometric and non-geometric states, with the latter case including the superposition states and descendant states.

Entanglement of purification and disentanglement in CFTs

We study the entanglement of purification (EoP) of subsystem $A$ and B in conformal field theories (CFTs) stressing on its relation to unitary operations of disentanglement, if the auxiliary subsystem $\tilde{A}$ adjoins $A$ and $\tilde{A}\tilde{B}$ is the complement of $AB$. We estimate the amount of the disentanglement by using the holographic EoP conjecture as well as the inequality of Von Neumann entropy. Denote the state that produces the EoP by $|ψ\rangle_M$. We calculate the variance of entanglement entropy of $A\tilde{A}$ in the state $|ψ(δ)\rangle:=e^{iδH_{\tilde{A}\tilde{B}}}|ψ\rangle_M$. We find a constraint on the state $|ψ\rangle_M$, $[K_{A\tilde{A},M},O_{\tilde{A}}]=0$, where $K_{A\tilde{A},M}$ is the modular Hamiltonian of $A\tilde{A}$ in the state $|ψ\rangle_M$, $O_{\tilde{A}}\in \mathscr{R}(\tilde{A})$ is an arbitrary operator. We also study three different states that can be seen as disentangled states. Two of them can produce the holographic EoP result in some limit. But we show that none of they could be a candidate of the state $|ψ\rangle_M$, since the distance between these three states and $|ψ\rangle_M$ is very large.

Note on ETH of descendant states in 2D CFT

We investigate the eigenstate thermalization hypothesis (ETH) of highly excited descendant states in two-dimensional large central charge $c$ conformal field theory. We use operator product expansion of twist operators to calculate the short interval expansions of entanglement entropy and relative entropy for an interval of length $\ell$ up to order $\ell^{12}$. Using these results to ensure ETH of a heavy state when compared with the canonical ensemble state up to various orders of $c$, we get the constraints on the expectation values of the first few quasiprimary operators in the vacuum conformal family at the corresponding order of $c$. Similarly, we also obtain the constraints from the expectation values of the first few Korteweg-de Vries charges. We check these constraints for some types of special descendant excited states. Among the descendant states we consider, we find that at most only the leading order ones of the ETH constraints can be satisfied for the descendant states that are slightly excited on top of a heavy primary state. Otherwise, the ETH constraints are violated for the descendant states that are heavily excited on top of a primary state.

Entanglement of Purification and Projective Measurement in CFT

We investigate entanglement of purification in conformal field theory. By using Reeh-Schlieder theorem, we construct a set of the purification states for $ρ_{AB}$, where $ρ_{AB}$ is reduced density matrix for subregion $AB$ of a global state $ρ$. The set can be approximated by acting all the unitary observables, located in the complement of subregion $AB$, on the global state $ρ$, as long as the global state $ρ$ is \text{cyclic} for every local algebra, e.g., the vacuum state. Combining with the gravity explanation of unitary operations in the context of the so-called surface/state correspondence, we prove the holographic EoP formula. We also explore the projective measurement with the conformal basis in conformal field theory and its relation to the minimization procedure of EoP. Interestingly, though the projective measurement is not a unitary operator, the difference in some limits between holographic EoP and the entanglement entropy after a suitable projective measurement is a constant $\frac{c}{3}\log 2$ up to some contributions from boundary. This suggests the states after projective measurements may approximately be taken as the purification state corresponding to the minimal value of the procedure.

Distinguishing Black Hole Microstates using Holevo Information

We use the Holevo information in a two-dimensional conformal field theory (CFT) with a large central charge $c$ to distinguish microstates from the underlying thermal state. Holographically, the CFT microstates of a thermal state are dual to black hole microstate geometries in three-dimensional anti-de Sitter space. It was found recently that the holographic Holevo information shows plateau behaviors at both short and long interval regions. This indicates that the black hole microstates are indistinguishable from the thermal state by measuring over a small region, and perfectly distinguishable over a region with its size comparable to the whole system. In this letter, we demonstrate that the plateaus are lifted by including the $1/c$ corrections from both the vacuum and non-vacuum conformal families of CFT in either the canonical ensemble or microcanonical ensemble thermal state. Our results imply that the aforementioned indistinguishability and distinguishability of black hole microstate geometries from the underlying black hole are spoiled by higher order Newton constant $G_N$ corrections of quantum gravity.

Entanglement entropy in (1+1)D CFTs with multiple local excitations

In this paper, we use the replica approach to study the Rényi entropy $S_L$ of generic locally excited states in (1+1)D CFTs, which are constructed from the insertion of multiple product of local primary operators on vacuum. Alternatively, one can calculate the Rényi entropy $S_R$ corresponding to the same states using Schmidt decomposition and operator product expansion, which reduces the multiple product of local primary operators to linear combination of operators. The equivalence $S_L=S_R$ translates into an identity in terms of the $F$ symbols and quantum dimensions for rational CFT, and the latter can be proved algebraically. This, along with a series of papers, gives a complete picture of how the quantum information quantities and the intrinsic structure of (1+1)D CFTs are consistently related.

Entanglement Properties of Boundary State and Thermalization

We discuss the regularized boundary state $e^{-τ_0 H}|B\rangle_a$ on two aspects in both 2D CFT and higher dimensional free field theory. One is its entanglement and correlation properties, which exhibit exponential decay in 2D CFT, the parameter $1/τ_0$ works as a mass scale. The other concerns with its time evolution, i.e., $e^{-i tH}e^{-τ_0 H}|B\rangle_a$. We investigate the Kubo-Martin-Schwinger (KMS) condition on correlation function of \emph{local} operators to detect the thermal properties. Interestingly we find the correlation functions in the initial state $e^{-τ_0 H}|B\rangle_a$ also partially satisfy the KMS condition. In the limit $t\to \infty$, the correlators will exactly satisfy the KMS condition. We generally analyse quantum quench by a pure state and obtain some constraints on the possible form of 2-point correlation function in the initial state if assuming they satisfies KMS condition in the final state . As a byproduct we find in an large $τ_0$ limit the thermal property of 2-point function in $e^{-τ_0 H}|B\rangle_a$ also appears.

Holographic Entanglement Entropy for the Most General Higher Derivative Gravity

The holographic entanglement entropy for the most general higher derivative gravity is investigated. We find a new type of Wald entropy, which appears on entangling surface without the rotational symmetry and reduces to usual Wald entropy on Killing horizon. Furthermore, we obtain a formal formula of HEE for the most general higher derivative gravity and work it out exactly for some squashed cones. As an important application, we derive HEE for gravitational action with one derivative of the curvature when the extrinsic curvature vanishes. We also study some toy models with non-zero extrinsic curvature. We prove that our formula yields the correct universal term of entanglement entropy for 4d CFTs. Furthermore, we solve the puzzle raised by Hung, Myers and Smolkin that the logarithmic term of entanglement entropy derived from Weyl anomaly of CFTs does not match the holographic result even if the extrinsic curvature vanishes. We find that such mismatch comes from the `anomaly of entropy' of the derivative of curvature. After considering such contributions carefully, we resolve the puzzle successfully. In general, we need to fix the splitting problem for the conical metrics in order to derive the holographic entanglement entropy. We find that, at least for Einstein gravity, the splitting problem can be fixed by using equations of motion. How to derive the splittings for higher derivative gravity is a non-trivial and open question. For simplicity, we ignore the splitting problem in this paper and find that it does not affect our main results.

Holographic Rényi Entropy and Generalized Entropy method

In this paper we use the method of generalized gravitational entropy in \cite{Lewkowycz:2013nqa} to construct the dual bulk geometry for a spherical entangling surface, and calculate the Rényi entropy with the dual bulk gravity theory being either Einstein gravity or Lovelock gravity, this approach is closely related to that in \cite{Casini:2011kv}. For a general entangling surface we derive the area law of entanglement entropy. The area law is closely related with the local property of the entangling surface.

Note on Entanglement Temperature for Low Thermal Excited States in Higher Derivative Gravity

We investigate the entanglement temperature of a small scale subsystem in low excited states by using holographic method. Especially, we study the entanglement entropy and entanglement temperature in higher derivative gravities which are considered as low thermal excitation of pure AdS gravity. We find that the entanglement entropy are related to the central charges of boundary CFT. The relation between the variance of entanglement entropy and energy of a small scale subsystem has been also obtained. Furthermore, the relation is consistent with the first law-like relation that is proposed by Phys. Rev. Lett. 110, 091602 (2013). Finally, we derive the formula of the variance of entanglement entropy in general excited states in gravity background with the Fefferman-Graham coordinates and the entanglement temperature can be figured out in special case.

A Possible Hermitian Neutrino Mixing Ansatz

Using a recent global analysis result after the precise measurement of $θ_ {13}$, a possible Herimtian neutrino mixing ansatz is discussed, the mixing matrix is symmetric and also symmetric with respect with the second diagonal line in the leading order. This leading order ansatz predicts $θ_{13}=12.2^\circ$. Next, consider the hierarchy structure of the lepton mass matrix as the origin of perturbation of the mixing matrix, we find that this ansatz with perturbation can fit current data very well.
