Superconductivity in LiFeO2Fe2Se2 with anti-PbO-type Spacer Layers

Superconductivity has been found in the iron-arsenides with different structures by alternative stacking of the conducting Fe2As2 layers and spacer layers including alkali- or alkali-earth metal ions and PbO- or perovskite-type oxides blocks. So far, no spacer layer could be intercalated in between the neutral Fe2Se2 layers similar in structure to Fe2As2 layers except for alkali-metal ions in AxFe2-ySe2. The superconducting phase in AxFe2-ySe2 with transition temperature of 32 K is always inter-grown with the insulating phase which exhibits an antiferromagnetic order with extremely high Neel temperature of ~560 K and the order of Fe vacancies. Such inhomogeneity makes the investigation on the underlying physics in AxFe2-ySe2 complicated. Here we report the synthesis of a novel superconductor LiFeO2Fe2Se2 by hydrothermal method, exhibiting superconductivity at ~43 K, in which anti-PbO-type spacer layers of LiFeO2 have been successfully intercalated between anti-PbO-type Fe2Se2 layers. This finding demonstrates that superconductivity can be realized in the iron selenide with a novel spacer layer of anti-PbO-type, which is not found in the iron arsenides, and expands the category of the iron-based superconductors. Such a new synthetic method paves a new way to search for possible novel superconductors with different spacer layers, which is helpful to further study the underlying physics in iron-based high-Tc superconductors.

Phase diagram and physical properties of NaFe$_{1-x}$Cu$_x$As single crystals

A series of high quality NaFe$_{1-x}$Cu$_x$As single crystals has been grown by a self-flux technique, which were systematically characterized via structural, transport, thermodynamic, and high pressure measurements. Both the structural and magnetic transitions are suppressed by Cu doping, and bulk superconductivity is induced by Cu doping. Superconducting transition temperature ($T_c$) is initially enhanced from 9.6 to 11.5 K by Cu doping, and then suppressed with further doping. A phase diagram similar to NaFe$_{1-x}$Co$_x$As is obtained except that insulating instead of metallic behavior is observed in extremely overdoped samples. $T_c$'s of underdoped, optimally doped, and overdoped samples are all notably enhanced by applying pressure. Although a universal maximum transition temperature ($T_c^{max}$) of about 31 K under external pressure is observed in underdoped and optimally doped NaFe$_{1-x}$Co$_x$As, $T_c^{max}$ of NaFe$_{1-x}$Cu$_x$As is monotonously suppressed by Cu doping, suggesting that impurity potential of Cu is stronger than Co in NaFeAs. The comparison between Cu and Co doping effect in NaFeAs indicates that Cu serves as an effective electron dopant with strong impurity potential, but part of the doped electrons are localized and do not fill the energy bands as predicted by the rigid-band model.

The application of gauge invariance and canonical quantization to the internal structure of gauge field systems

It is unavoidable to deal with the quark and gluon momentum and angular momentum contributions to the nucleon momentum and spin in the study of nucleon internal structure. However, we never have the quark and gluon momentum, orbital angular momentum and gluon spin operators which satisfy both the gauge invariance and the canonical momentum and angular momentum commutation relation. The conflicts between the gauge invariance and canonical quantization requirement of these operators are discussed. A new set of quark and gluon momentum, orbital angular momentum and spin operators, which satisfy both the gauge invariance and canonical momentum and angular momentum commutation relation, are proposed. The key point to achieve such a proper decomposition is to separate the gauge field into the pure gauge and the gauge covariant parts. The same conflicts also exist in QED and quantum mechanics and have been solved in the same manner. The impacts of this new decomposition to the nucleon internal structure are discussed.

Dilute Liquid of Instanton and Its Topological Charge Dominate the QCD Vacuum

APE smearing and overlap-Dirac operator are combined to filter QCD vacuum configurations. The results obtained from overlap fermions and improved 5Li cooling are compared, both of them exhibit structures of dilute liquid of instanton. Finally the overlap fermions, improved 5Li cooling and APE smearing are combined to calculate the topological charge and identify the structure of QCD vacuum. The results suggest dilute liquid of instanton dominance of topological charge fluctuations in quenched lattice QCD.

Evidence for s-wave pairing from measurement on lower critical field in $MgCNi_3$

Magnetization measurements in the low field region have been carefully performed on a well-shaped cylindrical and an ellipsoidal sample of superconductor $MgCNi_3$. Data from both samples show almost the same results. The lower critical field $H_{c1}$ and the London penetration depth $λ$ are thus derived. It is found that the result of normalized superfluid density $λ^2(0)/λ^2(T)$ of $MgCNi_3$ can be well described by BCS prediction with the expectation for an isotropic s-wave superconductivity.

Deviations from plastic barriers in Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8+δ}$ thin films

Resistive transitions of an epitaxial Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8+δ}$ thin film were measured in various magnetic fields ($H\parallel c$), ranging from 0 to 22.0 T. Rounded curvatures of low resistivity tails are observed in Arrhenius plot and considered to relate to deviations from plastic barriers. In order to characterize these deviations, an empirical barrier form is developed, which is found to be in good agreement with experimental data and coincide with the plastic barrier form in a limited magnetic field range. Using the plastic barrier predictions and the empirical barrier form, we successfully explain the observed deviations.

Two dimensional scaling of resistance in flux flow region in $Tl_2Ba_2CaCu_2O_8$ thin films

The resistance of $Tl_2Ba_2CaCu_2O_8$ thin films has been measured when the angle between the applied fields and $ab$-plane of the film is changed continuously at various temperatures. Under various magnetic fields, the resistance can be well scaled in terms of the c-axis component of the applied fields at the same temperature in the whole angle range. Meanwhile, we show that the measurement of resistance in this way is a complementary method to determine the growth orientation of the anisotropic high-$T_c$ superconductors.

Tunneling spectroscopy of Na$_{x}$CoO$_2$ and Na$_{x}$CoO$_2$$\cdot$ yH$_2$O

The single electron tunneling spectroscopy on superconductor Na$_{x}$CoO$_2$$\cdot$ yH$_2$O and its starting compound Na$_{x}$CoO$_2$ has been studied with point-contact method. The spectra of Na$_{x}$CoO$_2$ have two types of distinct shapes at different random locations, this is attributed to the non-uniformly distributed sodium escaped from the inner part of the sample. While all the measured spectra of the superconducting samples Na$_{x}$CoO$_2$$\cdot$ yH$_2$O have a good spatial reproducibility, and show a remarkable zero bias conductance depression appearing below an onset temperature which associates very well with the resistance upturn at around 45 K. The latter behavior resembles in some way the pseudogap feature in high-T$_c$ cuprate uperconductors.

Bulk Evidence for s-Wave Pairing Symmetry in the n-Type Infinite-Layer Cuprate $Sr_{0.9}La_{0.1}CuO_{2}$

Low temperature specific heat of the electron-doped (n-type) infinite-layer cuprate $Sr_{0.9}La_{0.1}CuO_{2}$ has been measured. The quasiparticle density of states (DOS) in the mixed state is found to be consistent with the feature of the s-wave pairing symmetry, agreeing very well with the earlier tunnelling measurement, but being contrary to the d-wave symmetry well confirmed for the hole-doped (p-type) cuprates. Our results indicate that the electronic DOS are mainly contributed by the vortex cores in the present sample being contrast to the p-type cuprates in which the vortex cores are abnormal and contribute very limited low energy DOS as evidenced by many means.

Vacuum Condensates in the Global Color Symmetry Model

Based on the quark propagator in the instanton dilute liquid approximation, we calculate analytically the quark condensate $<\bar{q}q>$, the mixed quark gluon condensate $g_{s}<\bar{q}G_{μν}σ^{μν}q>$ and the four quark condensate $<\bar{q} Γq\bar{q} Γq>$ at the mean field level in the framework of global color symmetry model. The numerical calculation shows that the values of these condensates are compatible with the ranges determined by other nonperturbative approaches. Moreover, we find that for nonlocal four quark condensate the previous vacuum saturation assumption is not a good approximation even at the mean field level.
