EBS and in-beam $γ$-ray investigation of FCVA-prepared Cr$_2$O$_3$ targets for low-energy $^{16}$O+$^{16}$O fusion experiments

The Cr$_2$O$_3$ solid target for low-energy $^{16}$O+$^{16}$O fusion experiments was fabricated using filtered cathodic vacuum arc (FCVA) deposition. Its composition, oxygen areal density and impurity content were characterized by elastic backscattering spectrometry (EBS), and the impurity-induced background contributions were investigated by in-beam $γ$-ray spectroscopy. EBS results indicate that the Cr$_2$O$_3$ film exhibits good stoichiometry and uniformity, with $^{16}$O areal densities ranging from $(3.24-3.25)\times10^{17}$ atoms/cm$^2$. The EBS analysis reveals a carbon atomic fraction of approximately 1.25-1.29\% in the Cr$_2$O$_3$ layer, while a large amount of carbon impurities are also identified on the surface of Cr substrate. In-beam $γ$-ray spectra reveal prominent transitions associated with $^{27}$Al and $^{24}$Mg at 844, 1015, and 1369 keV, mainly originating from $^{12}$C+$^{16}$O fusion reactions induced by carbon impurities under $^{16}$O irradiation. Meanwhile, characteristic $γ$-rays emissions from evaporation channels of the $^{16}$O+$^{16}$O reaction, including $^{31}$S, $^{31}$P, and $^{28}$Si, were also observed and can be used to extract the $^{16}$O+$^{16}$O fusion cross sections. This work provides an experimental basis for the development of high-purity oxide targets and the optimization of target configurations for future low-background $^{16}$O+$^{16}$O fusion cross section measurements.

Revisiting identified-particle $p_{\mathrm{T}}$ spectra using the Boltzmann-Gibbs blast-wave model in a Bayesian inference framework

We perform a Bayesian analysis of transverse momentum ($p_{\mathrm{T}}$) spectra of identified particles, i.e., pions, kaons, and protons, at midrapidity in Au+Au collisions and Pb+Pb collisions using the Boltzmann-Gibbs blast-wave (BGBW) model. We investigate whether it is possible to simultaneously describe the $p_{\mathrm{T}}$ spectra of identified particles without imposing the particle species-dependent $p_{\mathrm{T}}$ fit ranges -- a practice that was followed in conventional blast-wave model studies to achieve reasonable simultaneous fits. Using Bayesian analysis, our results indicate that a simultaneous description of the $p_{\mathrm{T}}$ spectra of pions, kaons, and protons is feasible without imposing the particle species-dependent $p_{\mathrm{T}}$ fit ranges, for Au+Au collisions up to the available data ($\sim$2 GeV/c) and for Pb+Pb collisions up to 3 GeV/c. The extracted parameters remain broadly consistent with those obtained from conventional BGBW simultaneous fits, while the extension of the fit range leads to moderate changes in some parameters. Furthermore, Bayesian analysis yields well-constrained posterior distributions for the kinetic freeze-out temperature $T_{kin}$, the average transverse flow velocity $\langle β_{\mathrm{T}}\rangle$, and the exponent of the velocity profile $n$ and shows their correlations transparently. We suggest that the BGBW model in a Bayesian inference framework proposed can be applied in future data analyses to simultaneously describe the $p_{\mathrm{T}}$ spectra of identified particles and extract the relevant information about the collision system.

$t$+$t$ cluster states in $^{6}$He

The study of $t$+$t$ cluster states in $^{6}$He provides valuable insights into exotic nuclear structures and the behavior of fermionic cluster systems. This study shows rich cluster resonant state structures above the threshold, identified by experimental reconstruction and theoretical calculations. The excitation energy spectrum above the $t$+$t$ threshold in $^{6}$He is measured via the fragmentation excitation process during the breakup reaction of $^{9}$Li on a $^{208}$Pb target at an incident energy of 32.7 MeV/nucleon. The resonant states are reconstructed from the final state coincident particles $t$+$t$ using the invariant mass method, while the non-resonant background is estimated using the event mixing method. Two states of energy level peaks at $13.9\pm0.3$ and $15.0\pm0.3$ MeV are observed. Microscopic cluster model calculations exploring the $t+t$ resonant states in $^6\mathrm{He}$ yield theoretical energy spectra which are then compared with the current experimental results. The calculated reduced width amplitudes (RWA) of the $t+t$ channels further confirm the clustering structure of the identified $t+t$ resonant states.

Evolution of magnetism in Ruddlesden-Popper bilayer nickelate revealed by muon spin relaxation

Here we report the positive muon spin relaxation study on Pr-doped La$_{1.9}$Pr$_{1.1}$Ni$_2$O$_{6.97}$ and oxygen-deficient La$_3$Ni$_2$O$_{6.63}$ polycrystalline under ambient pressure. Zero-field $μ^+$SR experiments reveal the existence of bulk long-range magnetic order in La$_{1.9}$Pr$_{1.1}$Ni$_2$O$_{6.97}$ with $T_{N}=161\ \rm{K}$, while La$_3$Ni$_2$O$_{6.63}$ exhibits a short-range magnetic ground state with $T_N=30\ \rm{K}$. The magnetic transition width of La$_{1.9}$Pr$_{1.1}$Ni$_2$O$_{6.97}$ revealed by weak-transverse-field $μ^+$SR is narrower compared to La$_3$Ni$_2$O$_{6.92}$. Our $μ^+$SR experiment results provide a comprehensive view on the correlation between magnetism and structure perfection in Ruddlesden-Popper bilayer nickelates under ambient pressure.

Neutron radius determination of 133Cs and its impact on the interpretation of CEvNS-CsI measurement

Proton-$^{133}$Cs elastic scattering at low momentum transfer is performed using an in-ring reaction technique at the Cooler Storage Ring at the Heavy Ion Research Facility in Lanzhou. Recoil protons from the elastic collisions between the internal H$_2$-gas target and the circulating $^{133}$Cs ions at 199.4 MeV/u are detected by a silicon-strip detector. The matter radius of $^{133}$Cs is deduced by describing the measured differential cross sections using the Glauber model. Employing the adopted proton distribution radius, a point-neutron radius of 4.86(21) fm for $^{133}$Cs is obtained. With the newly determined neutron radius, the weak mixing angle sin$^2 θ_W$ is independently extracted to be 0.227(28) by fitting the coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering data. Our work limits the sin$^2 θ_W$ value in a range smaller than the ones proposed by the previous independent approaches, and would play an important role in searching new physics via the high precision CE$ν$NS-CsI cross section data in the near future.

Semi-relativistic antisymmetrized molecular dynamics for energetic neutron production in intermediate energy heavy-ion reactions

Relativistic corrections have been made in the non-relativistic antisymmetrized molecular dynamics (AMD) simulations to apply to the high energy neutron production in the $^{12}$C+$^{12}$C and $^{16}$O+$^{12}$C collisions at incident energies of 290 and 400 MeV/nucleon. The corrections are made in kinematics alone and no nucleon-nucleon inelastic scatterings nor meson productions are taken into account, and AMD with the relativistic corrections is called semi-relativistic AMD. The three-nucleon collision (3NC) and Fermi boost in the collision processes are taken into account in the non-relativistic AMD. Since the relativistic corrections tend to compensate in each other, the difference between the semi-relativistic and non-relativistic results become small. High energy tails of the available experimental neutron double differential cross sections, especially at larger angles, are well reproduced by AMD with the 3NC term both with non-relativistic and semi-relativistic simulations. These results indicate that the high energy neutrons are dominantly produced by the 3NC process in this incident energy range.

Pressure-induced double-dome superconductivity in kagome metal CsTi3Bi5

We present high-pressure resistance measurements up to 40 GPa on recently discovered titanium-based kagome metal CsTi$_3$Bi$_5$. At ambient pressure, CsTi$_3$Bi$_5$ shows no evidence of superconductivity in resistivity and specific heat. By applying pressure, superconductivity emerges and the superconducting transition temperature ${\it T}_{\rm c}$ reaches its first maximum of 1.2 K at $\sim$5 GPa. Then the ${\it T}_{\rm c}$ is suppressed by pressure and cannot be detected around 10 GPa, manifesting as a superconducting dome. Remarkably, upon further increasing pressure above $\sim$13 GPa, another superconducting dome shows up, with the maximum ${\it T}_{\rm c}$ of 0.6 K and ending pressure at $\sim$36 GPa. The variation of ${\it T}_{\rm c}$ displays a clear double-dome shape in the superconducting phase diagram. Our work demonstrates the similarity between CsTi$_3$Bi$_5$ and CsV$_3$Sb$_5$, providing valuable insights into the rich physics of these novel kagome metals.

Measurement of $^{58}$Ni($p$, $p$)$^{58}$Ni elastic scattering at low momentum transfer by using the HIRFL-CSR heavy-ion storage ring

The very first in-ring reaction experiment at the HIRFL-CSR heavy-ion storage ring, namely proton elastic scattering on stable $^{58}$Ni nuclei, is presented. The circulating $^{58}$Ni$^{19+}$ ions with an energy of 95 MeV/u were interacting repeatedly with an internal hydrogen gas target in the CSRe experimental ring. Low energy proton recoils from the elastic collisions were measured with an ultra-high vacuum compatible silicon-strip detector. Deduced differential cross sections were normalized by measuring K-shell X-rays from $^{58}$Ni$^{19+}$ projectiles due to the $^{58}$Ni$^{19+}$-H$_2$ ionization collisions. Compared to the experimental cross sections, a good agreement has been achieved with the theoretical predictions in the measured region, which were obtained by using the global phenomenological optical model potentials. Our results enable new research opportunities for optical model potential studies on exotic nuclides by using the in-ring reaction setup at the HIRFL-CSR facility.

Giant pressure-enhancement of multiferroicity in CuBr2

Type-II multiferroic materials, in which ferroelectric polarization is induced by inversion non-symmetric magnetic order, promise new and highly efficient multifunctional applications based on the mutual control of magnetic and electric properties. Although this phenomenon has to date been limited to low temperatures, here we report a giant pressure-dependence of the multiferroic critical temperature in CuBr$_2$. At 4.5 GPa, $T_\mathrm{C}$ is enhanced from 73.5 to 162 K, to our knowledge the highest value yet reported for a non-oxide type-II multiferroic. This growth shows no sign of saturating and the dielectric loss remains small under these high pressures. We establish the structure under pressure and demonstrate a 60\% increase in the two-magnon Raman energy scale up to 3.6 GPa. First-principles structural and magnetic energy calculations provide a quantitative explanation in terms of dramatically pressure-enhanced interactions between CuBr$_2$ chains. These large, pressure-tuned magnetic interactions motivate structural control in cuprous halides as a route to applied high-temperature multiferroicity.

Observation of $^{6}$He+$t$ cluster states in $^{9}$Li

$^{6}$He+$t$ cluster states of exited $^{9}$Li have been measured by 32.7 MeV/nucleon $^{9}$Li beams bombarding on $^{208}$Pb target. Two resonant states are clearly observed with the excitation energies at 9.8 MeV and 12.6 MeV and spin-parity of 3/2$^{-}$ and 7/2$^{-}$ respectively. These two states are considered to be members of K$^π$=1/2$^{-}$ band. The spin-parity of them are identified by the method of angular correlation analysis and verified by the continuum discretized coupled channels (CDCC) calculation, which agrees with the prediction of the generator coordinate method (GCM). A monopole matrix element about 4 fm$^{2}$ for the 3/2$^{-}$ state is extracted from the distorted wave Born approximation (DWBA) calculation. These results strongly support the feature of clustering structure of two neutron-rich clusters in the neutron-rich nucleus $^{9}$Li for the first time.

The correlation between quarter point angle and nuclear radius

The main objective of the present work is to correlate quarter-point angle and nuclear radius or nuclear matter distribution. Various phenomenological formulae with parameters for strong absorption radius Rs are obtained and compared by fitting the experimental data of quarter point angle extracted from nuclear elastic scattering reaction systems. The parameterized formula of Rs related to the isospin and binding energy is recommended, that gives a good reproduction of nuclear matter radii of halo nuclei.
