Deformation properties of the BCP energy density functional

We explore the deformation properties of the newly postulated BCP energy density functional (EDF). The results obtained for three isotope chains of Mg, Dy and Ra are compared to the available experimental data as well as to the results of the Gogny-D1S force. Results for the fission barrier of $^{240}$Pu are also discussed.

Semiclassical Description of Exotic Nuclear Shapes

Exotic nuclear structures such as bubbles and tori are analyzed through semiclassical extended Thomas-Fermi calculations with the Skyrme force SkM$^*$. The variational equations for neutron and proton densities are solved fully self-consistently in spherical (bubbles) and cylindrical (tori) symmetries. The possible existence of bubble configurations in some astrophysical scenarios is discussed. The stability of toroidal structures against change of quadrupole moment is studied. A global minimum of the energy is found in heavy

Nuclei beyond the drip line

In a Thomas-Fermi model, calculations are presented for nuclei beyond the nuclear drip line at zero temperature. These nuclei are in equilibrium by the presence of an external gas, as may be envisaged in the astrophysical scenario. We find that there is a limiting asymmetry beyond which these nuclei can no longer be made stable.

Pairing Properties In Relativistic Mean Field Models Obtained From Effective Field Theory

We apply recently developed effective field theory nuclear models in mean field approximation (parameter sets G1 and G2) to describe ground-state properties of nuclei from the valley of $β$-stability up to the drip lines. For faster calculations of open-shell nuclei we employ a modified BCS approach which takes into account quasi-bound levels owing to their centrifugal barrier, with a constant pairing strength. We test this simple prescription by comparing with available Hartree-plus-Bogoliubov results. Using the new effective parameter sets we then compute separation energies, density distributions and spin--orbit potentials in isotopic (isotonic) chains of nuclei with magic neutron (proton) numbers. The new forces describe the experimental systematics similarly to conventional non-linear $σ-ω$ relativistic force parameters like NL3.

Effects of new non-linear couplings in relativistic effective field theory

We extend the relativistic mean field theory model of Sugahara and Toki (TM1) by adding new couplings suggested by modern effective field theories. An improved set of parameters (TM1*) is developed with the goal to test the ability of the models based on effective field theory to describe the properties of finite nuclei and, at the same time, to be consistent with the trends of Dirac-Brueckner-Hartree-Fock calculations at densities away from the saturation region. We compare our calculations with other relativistic nuclear force parameters for various nuclear phenomena.

Ground-state properties and spins of the odd {\boldmath$Z=N+1$} nuclei {\boldmath$^{61}$}Ga{\boldmath$-$}{\boldmath$^{97}$}In}

Binding energies, quadrupole deformation parameters, spins and parities of the neutron-deficient odd $Z=N+1$ nuclei in the $A\sim 80$ region are calculated in the relativistic mean field approximation. The ground-state and low-lying configurations of the recently observed $^{77}$Y, $^{79}$Zr and $^{83}$Mo nuclei are analyzed. The calculated results are compared with other theoretical predictions.

Dynamic and Quasistatic Trajectories in Quasifission Reactions and Particle Emission

We show that the quasifission paths predicted by the one-body dissipation dynamics, in the slowest phase of a binary reaction, follow a quasistatic path, which represents a sequence of states of thermal equilibrium at a fixed value of the deformation coordinate. This establishes the use of the statistical particle-evaporation model in the case of dynamical time-evolving systems. Pre- and post-scission multiplicities of neutrons and total multiplicities of protons and alpha particles in fission reactions of 63Cu+92Mo, 60Ni+100Mo, 63Cu+100Mo at 10 MeV/u and 20Ne+144,148,154Sm at 20 MeV/u are reproduced reasonably well with statistical model calculations performed along dynamic trajectories whose slow stage (from the most compact configuration up to the point where the neck starts to develop) lasts some 35x10^{-21} s.

On the Thomas-Fermi approximation for Bose condensates in traps

Thomas-Fermi theory for Bose condesates in inhomogeneous traps is revisited. The phase-space distribution function in the Thomas-Fermi limit is $f_0(\bold{R},\bold{p})$ $α$ $δ(μ- H_{cl})$ where $H_{cl}$ is the classical counterpart of the self-consistent Gross-Pitaevskii Hamiltonian. No assumption on the large N-limit is introduced and, e.g the kinetic energy is found to be in good agreement with the quantal results even for low and intermediate particle numbers N. The attractive case yields conclusive results as well.

Nuclear surface properties in relativistic effective field theory

We perform Hartree calculations of symmetric and asymmetric semi-infinite nuclear matter in the framework of relativistic models based on effective hadronic field theories as recently proposed in the literature. In addition to the conventional cubic and quartic scalar self-interactions, the extended models incorporate a quartic vector self-interaction, scalar-vector non-linearities and tensor couplings of the vector mesons. We investigate the implications of these terms on nuclear surface properties such as the surface energy coefficient, surface thickness, surface stiffness coefficient, neutron skin thickness and the spin-orbit force.

A Relativistic Thomas-Fermi Description of Collective Modes in Droplets of Nuclear Matter

Isoscalar collective modes in a relativistic meson-nucleon system are investigated in the framework of the time-dependent Thomas-Fermi method. The energies of the collective modes are determined by solving consistently the dispersion relations and the boundary conditions. The energy weighted sum rule satisfied by the model allows the identification of the giant ressonances. The percentage of the energy weighted sum rule exhausted by the collective modes is in agreement with experimental data, but the energies come too high.
