Dissipation induced $W$ state in a Rydberg-atom-cavity system

A dissipative scheme is proposed to prepare tripartite $W$ state in a Rydberg-atom-cavity system. It is an organic combination of quantum Zeno dynamics, Rydberg antiblockade and atomic spontaneous emission to turn the tripartite $W$ state into the unique steady state of the whole system. The robustness against the loss of cavity and the feasibility of the scheme are demonstrated thoroughly by the current experimental parameters, which leads to a high fidelity above $98\%$.

Multilevel quantum Otto heat engines with identical particles

A quantum Otto heat engine is studied with multilevel identical particles trapped in one-dimensional box potential as working substance. The symmetrical wave function for Bosons and the anti-symmetrical wave function for Fermions are considered. In two-particle case, we focus on the ratios of $W^i$ ($i=B,F$) to $W_s$, where $W^B$ and $W^F$ are the work done by two Bosons and Fermions respectively, and $W_s$ is the work output of a single particle under the same conditions. Due to the symmetric of the wave functions, the ratios are not equal to $2$. Three different regimes, low temperature regime, high temperature regime, and intermediate temperature regime, are analyzed, and the effects of energy level number and the differences between the two baths are calculated. In the multiparticle case, we calculate the ratios of $W^i_M/M$ to $W_s$, where $W^i_M/M$ can be seen as the average work done by a single particle in multiparticle heat engine. For other working substances whose energy spectrum have the form of $E_n\sim n^2$, the results are similar. For the case $E_n\sim n$, two different conclusions are obtained.

Anti-adiabatic evolution in quantum-classical hybrid system

The adiabatic theorem is an important concept in quantum mechanics, it tells that a quantum system subjected to gradually changing external conditions remains to the same instantaneous eigenstate of its Hamiltonian as it initially in. In this paper, we study the another extreme circumstance where the external conditions vary rapidly such that the quantum system can not follow the change and remains in its initial state (or wavefunction). We call this type of evolution anit-adiabatic evolution. We examine the matter-wave pressure in this situation and derive the condition for such an evolution. The study is conducted by considering a quantum particle in an infinitely deep potential, the potential width $Q$ is assumed to be change rapidly. We show that the total energy of the quantum subsystem decreases as $Q$ increases, and this rapidly change exerts a force on the wall which plays the role of boundary of the potential. For $Q Q_{0}$, the force is positive. The condition for the anti-adiabatic evolution is given via a spin-$\frac 1 2$ in a rotating magnetic field.

Effect of spin relaxations on the spin mixing conductances for a bilayer structure

The spin current can result in a spin-transfer torque in the normal-metal(NM)|ferromagnetic-insulator(FMI) or normal-metal(NM)|ferromagnetic-metal(FMM) bilayer. In the earlier study on this issue, the spin relaxations were ignored or introduced phenomenologically. In this paper, considering the FMM or FMI with spin relaxations described by a non-Hermitian Hamiltonian, we derive an effective spin-transfer torque and an effective spin mixing conductance in the non-Hermitian bilayer. The dependence of the effective spin mixing conductance on the system parameters (such as insulating gap, \textit{s-d} coupling, and layer thickness) as well as the relations between the real part and the imaginary part of the effective spin mixing conductance are given and discussed. We find that the effective spin mixing conductance can be enhanced in the non-Hermitian system. This provides us with the possibility to enhance the spin mixing conductance.

Bound state and Localization of excitation in many-body open systems

Bound state and time evolution for single excitation in one dimensional XXZ spin chain within non-Markovian reservoir are studied exactly. As for bound state, a common feature is the localization of single excitation, which means the spontaneous emission of excitation into reservoir is prohibited. Exceptionally the pseudo-bound state can always be found, for which the single excitation has a finite probability emitted into reservoir. We argue that under limit $N\rightarrow \infty$ the pseudo-bound bound state characterizes an equilibrium between the localization in spin chain and spontaneous emission into reservoir. In addition, a critical energy scale for bound states is also identified, below which only one bound state exists and it also is pseudo-bound state. The effect of quasirandom disorder is also discussed. It is found in this case that the single excitation is more inclined to locate at some spin sites. Thus a many-body-localization like behavior can be found. In order to display the effect of bound state and disorder on the preservation of quantum information, the time evolution of single excitation in spin chain studied exactly by numerically solving the evolution equation. A striking observation is that the excitation can be stayed at its initial location with a probability more than 0.9 when the bound state and disorder coexist. However if any one of the two issues is absent, the information of initial state can be erased completely or becomes mixed. Our finding shows that the combination of bound state and disorder can provide an ideal mechanism for quantum memory.

Ground-state blockade of Rydberg atoms and application in entanglement generation

We propose a mechanism of ground-state blockade between two $N$-type Rydberg atoms in virtue of Rydberg-antiblockade effect and Raman transition. Inspired by the quantum Zeno effect, the strong Rydberg antiblockade interaction plays a role in frequently measuring one ground state of two, leading to a blockade effect for double occupation of the corresponding quantum state. By encoding the logic qubits into the ground states, we efficiently avoid the spontaneous emission of the excited Rydberg state, and maintain the nonlinear Rydberg-Rydberg interaction at the same time. As applications, we discuss in detail the feasibility of preparing two-atom and three-atom entanglement with ground-state blockade in closed system and open system, respectively, which shows that a high fidelity of entangled state can be obtained with current experimental parameters.

Dissipative preparation of steady Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states for Rydberg atoms with quantum Zeno dynamics

Inspired by a recent work [Reiter, Reeb, and Sørensen, Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf117}, 040501 (2016)], we present a simplified proposal for dissipatively preparing a Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) state of three Rydberg atoms in a cavity. The $Z$ pumping is implemented under the action of the spontaneous emission of $Λ$-type atoms and the quantum Zeno dynamics induced by strong continuous coupling. In the meantime, a dissipative Rydberg pumping breaks up the stability of the state $|{\rm GHZ}_+\rangle$ in the process of $Z$ pumping, making $|{\rm GHZ}_-\rangle$ be the unique steady state of system. Compared with the former scheme, the number of driving fields acting on atoms is greatly reduced and only a single-mode cavity is required. The numerical simulation of the full master equation reveals that a high fidelity $\sim98\%$ can be obtained with the currently achievable parameters in the Rydberg-atom-cavity system.

The Dynamical Invariant of Open Quantum System

The dynamical invariant, whose expectation value is constant, is generalized to open quantum system. The evolution equation of dynamical invariant (the dynamical invariant condition) is presented for Markovian dynamics. Different with the dynamical invariant for the closed quantum system, the evolution of the dynamical invariant for the open quantum system is no longer unitary, and the eigenvalues of it are time-dependent. Since any hermitian operator fulfilling dynamical invariant condition is a dynamical invariant, we propose a sort of special dynamical invariant (decoherence free dynamical invariant) in which a part of eigenvalues are still constant. The dynamical invariant in the subspace spanned by the corresponding eigenstates evolves unitarily. Via the dynamical invariant condition, the results demonstrate that this dynamical invariant exists under the circumstances of emergence of decoherence free subspaces.

Adiabatic Decoherence-Free Subspaces and its Shortcuts

The adiabatic theorem and "shortcuts to adiabaticity" for the adiabatic dynamics of time-dependent decoherence-free subspaces are explored in this paper. Starting from the definition of the dynamical stable decoherence-free subspaces, we show that, under a compact adiabatic condition, the quantum state follows time-dependent decoherence-free subspaces (the adiabatic decoherence free subspaces) into the target subspace with extremely high purity, even though the dynamics of the quantum system may be non-adiabatic. The adiabatic condition mentioned in the adiabatic theorem is very similar with the adiabatic condition for closed quantum systems, except that the operators required to be "slowness" is on the Lindblad operators. We also show that the adiabatic decoherence-free subspaces program depends on the existence of instantaneous decoherence-free subspaces, which requires that the Hamiltonian of open quantum systems has to be engineered according to the incoherent control program. Besides, "the shortcuts to adiabaticity" for the adiabatic decoherence-free subspaces program is also presented based on the transitionless quantum driving method. Finally, we provide an example of physical systems that support our programs. Our approach employs Markovian master equations and applies primarily to finite-dimensional quantum systems.

Entangled state fusion with Rydberg atoms

We propose a scheme for preparation of large-scale entangled $GHZ$ states and $W$ states with neutral Rydberg atoms. The scheme mainly depends on Rydberg antiblockade effect, i.e., as the Rydberg-Rydberg-interaction (RRI) strength and the detuning between the atom transition frequency and the classical laser frequency satisfies some certain conditions, the effective Rabi oscillation between the two ground states and the two excitation Rydberg states would be generated. The prominent advantage is that both two-multiparticle $GHZ$ states and two-multiparticle $W$ states can be fused in this model, especially the success probability for fusion of $GHZ$ states can reach unit. In addition, the imperfections induced by the spontaneous emission is also discussed through numerical simulation.

Fusing atomic $W$ states via quantum Zeno dynamics

We propose a scheme for preparation of large-scale entangled $W$ states based on the fusion mechanism via quantum Zeno dynamics. By sending two atoms belonging to an $n$-atom $W$ state and an $m$-atom $W$ state, respectively, into a vacuum cavity (or two separate cavities), we may obtain a ($n+m-2$)-atom $W$ state via detecting the two-atom state after interaction. The present scheme is robust against both spontaneous emission of atoms and decay of cavity, and the feasibility analysis indicates that it can also be realized in experiment.

Enhanced exciton transmission by quantum-jump-based feedback

With rotating-wave approximation (RWA), we show in this paper that exciton transmission in a one-dimensional two-level molecule chain embedded in a cavity can be enhanced or suppressed by strong cavity-chain couplings. This exciton transmission is closely related to the number of molecules and the distribution of molecular exciton energy. In addition, we propose a proposal to enhance the exciton transmission by quantum-jump-based feedback. These results may find applications in experiments of exciton transmission in organic materials.

Conversion of entangled states with nitrogen-vacancy centers coupled to microtoroidal resonators

We propose efficient schemes for converting three-photon, four-photon and five-photon GHZ state to a $W$ state or Dicke state, respectively with the nitrogen-vacancy (N-V) centers via single-photon input-output process and cross-Kerr nonlinearities. The total success probability can be improved by iterating the conversion process for the case of three-photon and five-photon while it does not require iteration for converting four-photon GHZ state to a $W$ state. The analysis of feasibility shows that our scheme is feasible for current experimental technology.

Shortcuts to adiabaticity in non-Hermitian quantum systems without rotating-wave approximation

The technique of shortcuts to adiabaticity (STA) has attracted broad attention due to their possible applications in quantum information processing and quantum control. However, most studies published so far have been only focused on Hermitian systems under the rotating-wave approximation (RWA). In this paper, we propose a modified STA technique to realize population transfer for a non-Hermitian system without RWA. We work out an exact expression for the control function and present examples consisting of two- and three-level systems with decay to show the theory. The results suggest that the STA technique presented here is robust for fast passages. We also find that the decay has small effect on the population transfer in the three-level system. To shed more light on the physics behind this result, we reduce the quantum three-level system to an effective two-level one with large detunings. The STA technique of effective two-level system is studied. Thereby the high-fidelity population transfer can be implemented in non-Hermitian systems by our method, and it works even without RWA.

Engineering the coupling between Majorana bound states

We study the coupling between Majorana bound states (CMBS), which is mediated by a topologically trivial chain in the presence of pairing coupling and long-range coupling. The results show that CMBS can be enhanced by the pairing coupling and long-range coupling of the trivial chain. When driving the trivial chain by periodic driving field, we deduce the analytical expressions of CMBS in the high-frequency limit, and demonstrate that CMBS can be modulated by the frequency and amplitude of driving field. Finally we exhibit the application of tunable CMBS in realizing quantum logic gates.

Generalized Floquet theory for open quantum systems

For a periodically driven open quantum system, the Floquet theorem states that the time evolution operator $Λ(t,0)$ of the system can be factorized as $Λ(t,0)=\mathcal{D}(t)e^{\mathcal{L}_{eff}t}$ with micro-motion operator $\mathcal{D}(t)$ possessing the same period as the external driving, and time-independent operator $\mathcal{L}_{eff}$. In this work, we extend this theorem to open systems that follow a modulated periodic evolution, in which the fast part is periodic while the slow part breaks the periodicity. We derive a factorization for the time evolution operator that separates the long time dynamics and the micro-motion for the open quantum system. High-frequency expansions for the effective evolution operator control the long time dynamics, and the micro-motion operator is also given and discussed. It may find applications in quantum engineering with open systems following modulated periodic evolution.

The influence of localization transition on dynamical properties for an extended Aubry-André-Harper model

We show the localization transition and its effect on two dynamical processes for an extended Aubry-André-Harper model with incommensurate on-site and hopping potentials. After specifying an extended Aubry-André-Harper model, we check the localization transition for all the eigenstates and eigenenergy band splitting behavior versus a system parameter. To examine the effect of localization transition on dynamical processes, firstly, the slowly pumping of the edge states are examined. In the dynamical processes, the system acts as conductor for the excitation in the nonlocal region and insulator in the localized region. Then by quantum Lyapunov control method with different control Hamiltonians, we prepare an edge localized state which exists in the nonlocal region. Compared to that in the nonlocal region, the control effect is suppressed in the localized region. Then we employ the entropy and occupation imbalance between even and odd sites to indicate the localization transition further. Finally, the experimental schemes based on cold atoms trapped quasiperiodic optical lattice and coupled optical waveguide arrays are suggested.

Optical Schrödinger Cat States in One Mode and two Coupled-Modes Subject to Environments

Taking the decoherence into account, we investigate nonclassical features of the optical Schrödinger cat states in one mode and two coupled-modes systems with two-photon driving. In the one mode system, the relationship between the Schrödinger cat states and the system parameters is derived. We observe that in the presence of single-photon decay the steady states would be a mixture of Schrödinger cats. The dynamics and steady states of such a cat versus single-photon decay are examined. In the two coupled-modes cases with linear and nonlinear couplings, the dynamics of entanglement and mutual information are examined with two different initial states and single-photon decay. Compared to the linear coupling case, more complicated structure appears in the Wigner function in the nonlinear coupling case. The joint quadrature distributions are also explored. Such nonclassical states can be used not only in exploring the boundary between the classical and the quantum worlds but also in quantum metrology and quantum information processing.
