Observations on the variety of equationally linear Heyting semilattices

In previous work, we analysed a number of categorical properties, of interest in the context of Janelidze-Márki-Tholen semi-abelian categories, for the variety $\mathsf{HSLat}$ of Heyting semilattices. In this paper, we focus on the subvariety $\mathsf{ELHSLat}$ of equationally linear Heyting semilattices. Our main objective is to show that, unlike $\mathsf{HSLat}$, this category is algebraically coherent. We furthermore prove that it is neither locally algebraically cartesian closed nor cosmash associative.

Representations of compatible Lie algebras

We study compatible Lie algebras from algebraic and representation-theoretic points of view, obtaining counterexamples to some fundamental theorems from classical Lie algebra theory, namely the theorems of Lie, Weyl and Levi. We also classify the two-dimensional compatible Lie algebras up to isomorphism and explore their representation theory, presenting families of indecomposable non-semisimple representations, showing that the solvable two-dimensional compatible Lie algebras have wild representation type, and classifying all irreducible finite-dimensional line representations. Finally, we prove a Clebsch-Gordan decomposition for tensor products of finite-dimensional irreducible line representations.

Non-isomorphic restricted Lie algebras with isomorphic restricted enveloping algebras

Let $p$ be a prime. For every field $F$ of characteristic $p$ we exhibit pairs of non-isomorphic finite-dimensional $p$-nilpotent restricted Lie algebras $L$ and $H$ over $F$ whose restricted enveloping algebras $u(L)$ and $u(H)$ are isomorphic as $F$-algebras. Such pairs exist in every dimension at least $p+5$, with $\dim L'=p$ and $\dim H'=p+1$. Thus, the restricted isomorphism problem has a negative answer over every field of positive characteristic, even for $p$-nilpotent algebras over perfect fields.

A note on complete evolution algebras

This short note provides positive answers to two conjectures of Camacho, Khudoyberdiyev, and Omirov on the classification of complete evolution algebras. Our approach is based on analysing the solution set of a generic non-linear polynomial system of equations using elementary tools from algebraic geometry. We also obtain new results on subalgebras and idempotents of evolution algebras, and conclude by proposing a conjecture that may characterise solvable evolution algebras.

A comparison between weakly protomodular and protomodular objects in unital categories

We compare the concepts of protomodular and weakly protomodular objects within the context of unital categories. Our analysis demonstrates that these two notions are generally distinct. To establish this, we introduce left pseudocancellative unital magmas and characterise weakly protomodular objects within the variety of algebras they constitute. Subsequently, we present an example of a weakly protomodular object that is not protomodular in this category.

Categorical-algebraic aspects of Heyting semilattices

This article gives an overview of some key categorical-algebraic properties of the variety of Heyting semilattices, with the aim of correcting a misconception in the literature. We confirm that the category of Heyting semilattices is not algebraically coherent, even though it satisfies a strong version of the so-called Smith is Huq condition (on the equivalence of two types of commutators). We also prove that Higgins commutators of normal subobjects are normal, as a consequence of the fact that Heyting semilattices form an arithmetical category. We provide an elementary characterisation of when a pair of subobjects commutes, and use this in the construction of two counterexamples. We further show that centralisers exist, centralisers of normal monomorphisms are normal monomorphisms, and normal monomorphisms are closed under composition. We study the latter condition in detail. On the other hand, we show that the category of Heyting semilattices does not satisfy normality of unions. Hence, it is not action accessible and so it does not admit all normalisers. In particular, this means that the known implication between action accessibility and the condition requiring the existence of centralisers of normal monomorphisms which are themselves normal, is strict.

Action accessible and weakly action representable varieties of algebras

The main goal of this article is to investigate the relationship between action accessibility and weak action representability in the context of varieties of non-associative algebras over a field. Specifically, using an argument of J. R. A. Gray in the setting of groups, we prove that the varieties of $k$-nilpotent Lie algebras ($k \geq 3$) and the varieties of $n$-solvable Lie algebras ($n \geq 2$) do not form weakly action representable categories. These are the first known examples of action accessible varieties of non-associative algebras that fail to be weakly action representable, establishing that a subvariety of a (weakly) action representable variety of non-associative algebras needs not be weakly action representable. Eventually, we refine J. R. A. Gray's result by proving that the varieties of $k$-nilpotent groups ($k \geq 3$) and that of $2$-solvable groups are not weakly action representable.

On the coordinate rings of Calogero-Moser spaces and the invariant commuting variety of a pair of matrices

This paper presents a comprehensive description of the coordinate rings and Poisson brackets associated with the fourth Calogero-Moser space and invariant commuting pairs of matrices of size four. As an application, we compute their respective classes in the Grothendieck ring of the category of complex varieties and we offer some novel insights about the geometry of the Hilbert scheme of points on the affine plane.

Weak representability of actions of non-associative algebras

We study the categorical-algebraic condition that internal actions are weakly representable (WRA) in the context of varieties of (non-associative) algebras over a field. Our first aim is to give a complete characterization of action accessible, operadic quadratic varieties of non-associative algebras which satisfy an identity of degree two and to study the representability of actions for them. Here we prove that the varieties of two-step nilpotent (anti-)commutative algebras and that of commutative associative algebras are weakly action representable, and we explain that the condition (WRA) is closely connected to the existence of a so-called amalgam. Our second aim is to work towards the construction, still within the context of algebras over a field, of a weakly representing object $E(X)$ for the actions on (or split extensions of) an object $X$. We actually obtain a partial algebra $E(X)$, which we call external weak actor of $X$, together with a monomorphism of functors ${\operatorname{SplExt}(-,X) \rightarrowtail \operatorname{Hom}(U(-),E(X))}$, which we study in detail in the case of quadratic varieties. Furthermore, the relations between the construction of the universal strict general actor $\operatorname{USGA}(X)$ and that of $E(X)$ are described in detail. We end with some open questions.

A universal Kaluzhnin--Krasner embedding theorem

Given two groups $A$ and $B$, the Kaluzhnin--Krasner universal embedding theorem states that the wreath product $A\wr B$ acts as a universal receptacle for extensions from $A$ to $B$. For a split extension, this embedding is compatible with the canonical splitting of the wreath product, which is further universal in a precise sense. This result was recently extended to Lie algebras and to cocommutative Hopf algebras. The aim of the present article is to explore the feasibility of adapting the theorem to other types of algebraic structures. By explaining the underlying unity of the three known cases, our analysis gives necessary and sufficient conditions for this to happen. From those we may for instance conclude that a version for crossed modules can indeed be attained, while the theorem cannot be adapted to, say, associative algebras, Jordan algebras or Leibniz algebras, when working over an infinite field: we prove that then, amongst non-associative algebras, only Lie algebras admit a universal Kaluzhnin--Krasner embedding theorem.

Noncommutative Poisson structure and invariants of matrices

We introduce a novel approach that employs techniques from noncommutative Poisson geometry to comprehend the algebra of invariants of two $n\times n$ matrices. We entirely solve the open problem of computing the algebra of invariants of two $4 \times 4$ matrices. As an application, we derive the complete description of the invariant commuting variety of $4 \times 4$ matrices and the fourth Calogero-Moser space.

On some properties of $\mathsf{Lie}$-centroids of Leibniz algebras

We study some properties on $\mathsf{Lie}$-centroids related to central $\mathsf{Lie}$-derivations, generalized $\mathsf{Lie}$-derivations and almost inner $\mathsf{Lie}$-derivations. We also determine the $\mathsf{Lie}$-centroid of the tensor product of a commutative associative algebra and a Leibniz algebra.

Algebras with representable representations

Just like group actions are represented by group automorphisms, Lie algebra actions are represented by derivations: up to isomorphism, a split extension of a Lie algebra $B$ by a Lie algebra $X$ corresponds to a Lie algebra morphism $B\to \mathit{Der}(X)$ from $B$ to the Lie algebra $\mathit{Der}(X)$ of derivations on $X$. In this article, we study the question whether the concept of a derivation can be extended to other types of non-associative algebras over a field $\mathbb{K}$, in such a way that these generalised derivations characterise the $\mathbb{K}$-algebra actions. We prove that the answer is no, as soon as the field $\mathbb{K}$ is infinite. In fact, we prove a stronger result: already the representability of all abelian actions -- which are usually called representations or Beck modules -- suffices for this to be true. Thus we characterise the variety of Lie algebras over an infinite field of characteristic different from $2$ as the only variety of non-associative algebras which is a non-abelian category with representable representations. This emphasises the unique role played by the Lie algebra of linear endomorphisms $\mathfrak{gl}(V)$ as a representing object for the representations on a vector space $V$.

On the capablility of Hom-Lie algebras

A Hom-Lie algebra $(L, α_L)$ is said to be capable if there exists a Hom-Lie algebra $(H, α_H)$ such that $L \cong H/Z(H)$. We obtain a characterisation of capable Hom-Lie algebras involving its epicentre and we use this theory to further study the six-term exact sequence in homology and to obtain a Hopf-type formulae of the second homology of perfect Hom-Lie algebras.

Actor of a crossed module of dialgebras via tetramultipliers

We study the representability of actions in the category of crossed modules of dialgebras via tetramultipliers. We deduce a pair of dialgebras in order to construct an object which, under certain circumstances, is the actor (also known as the split extension classifier). Moreover, we give give a full description of actions in terms of equations. Finally, we check that under the aforementioned circumstances, the center coincides with the kernel of the canonical map from a crossed module to its actor.

Some generalisations of Schur's and Baer's theorem and their connection with homological algebra

Schur's Theorem and its generalisation, Baer's Theorem, are distinguished results in group theory, connecting the upper central quotients with the lower central series. The aim of this paper is to generalise these results in two different directions, using novel methods related with the non-abelian tensor product. In particular, we prove a version of Schur-Baer Theorem for finitely generated groups. Then, we apply these newly obtained results to describe the $k$-nilpotent multiplier, for $k\geq 2$, and other invariants of groups.

Algebraic exponentiation for Lie algebras

It is known that the category of Lie algebras over a ring admits algebraic exponents. The aim of this paper is to show that the same is true for the category of internal Lie algebras in an additive, cocomplete, symmetric, closed, monoidal category. In this way, we add some new examples to the brief list of known locally algebraically cartesian closed categories, including the categories of Lie superalgebras and differentially graded Lie algebras amongst others.
