Kernalised Multi-resolution Convnet for Visual Tracking

Visual tracking is intrinsically a temporal problem. Discriminative Correlation Filters (DCF) have demonstrated excellent performance for high-speed generic visual object tracking. Built upon their seminal work, there has been a plethora of recent improvements relying on convolutional neural network (CNN) pretrained on ImageNet as a feature extractor for visual tracking. However, most of their works relying on ad hoc analysis to design the weights for different layers either using boosting or hedging techniques as an ensemble tracker. In this paper, we go beyond the conventional DCF framework and propose a Kernalised Multi-resolution Convnet (KMC) formulation that utilises hierarchical response maps to directly output the target movement. When directly deployed the learnt network to predict the unseen challenging UAV tracking dataset without any weight adjustment, the proposed model consistently achieves excellent tracking performance. Moreover, the transfered multi-reslution CNN renders it possible to be integrated into the RNN temporal learning framework, therefore opening the door on the end-to-end temporal deep learning (TDL) for visual tracking.

The first result on 76Ge neutrinoless double beta decay from CDEX-1 experiment

We report the first result on Ge-76 neutrinoless double beta decay from CDEX-1 experiment at China Jinping Underground Laboratory. A mass of 994 g p-type point-contact high purity germanium detector has been installed to search the neutrinoless double beta decay events, as well as to directly detect dark matter particles. An exposure of 304 kg*day has been analyzed. The wideband spectrum from 500 keV to 3 MeV was obtained and the average event rate at the 2.039 MeV energy range is about 0.012 count per keV per kg per day. The half-life of Ge-76 neutrinoless double beta decay has been derived based on this result as: T 1/2 > 6.4*10^22 yr (90% C.L.). An upper limit on the effective Majorana-neutrino mass of 5.0 eV has been achieved. The possible methods to further decrease the background level have been discussed and will be pursued in the next stage of CDEX experiment.

Phylogenomic Analyses of Large-scale Nuclear Genes Provide New Insights into the Evolutionary Relationships within the Rosids

The Rosids is one of the largest groups of flowering plants, with 140 families and ~70,000 species. Previous phylogenetic studies of the rosids have primarily utilized organelle genes that likely differ in evolutionary histories from nuclear genes. To better understand the evolutionary history of rosids, it is necessary to investigate their phylogenetic relationships using nuclear genes. Here, we employed large-scale phylogenomic datasets composed of nuclear genes, including 891 clusters of putative orthologous genes. Combined with comprehensive taxon sampling covering 63 species representing 14 out of the 17 orders, we reconstructed the rosids phylogeny with coalescence and concatenation methods, yielding similar tree topologies from all datasets. However, these topologies did not agree on the placement of Zygophyllales. Through comprehensive analyses, we found that missing data and gene tree heterogeneity were potential factors that may mislead concatenation methods, in particular, large amounts of missing data under high gene tree heterogeneity. Our results provided new insights into the deep phylogenetic relationships of the rosids, and demonstrated that coalescence methods may effectively resolve the phylogenetic relationships of the rosids with missing data under high gene tree heterogeneity.

Empirical correlation of the surface tension versus the viscosity for saturated normal liquids

In 1966 Pelofsky proposed an empirical linear correlation between the natural logarithm of the surface tension and the reciprocal viscosity, which seems to work adequately for a wide range of fluids. In particular, it has been shown that it is useful in the case of n-alkanes and their binary and ternary mixtures. More recently however, it has been found not to work for several ionic liquids unless the reciprocal viscosity is raised to a power. The exponent of this power was fixed to be 0.3, at least for the studied ionic fluids. In the present work, the performance and accuracy of both the original Pelofsky correlation and the modified expression including the exponent are studied for 56 non-ionic fluids of different kinds over a broad range of temperatures. Also, the temperature range is delimited for which each expression reproduces the surface tension values with average absolute deviations below 1%. The needed coefficients are given for both the broad and the delimited temperature range for each expression. Unfortunately, the results show that the value of the exponent in the modified Pelofsky expression is substance-dependent for the normal fluids studied.

MIMO UWB Radar System with Compressive Sensing

A multiple input multiple output ultra-wideband cognitive radar based on compressive sensing is presented in this letter. For traditional UWB radar, high sampling rate analog to digital converter at the receiver is required to meet Shannon theorem, which increases hardware complexity. In order to bypass the bottleneck of ADC or further increase the radar bandwidth using the latest wideband ADC, we propose to exploit CS for signal reconstruction at the receiver of UWB radar for the sparse targets in the surveillance area. Besides, the function of narrowband interference cancellation is integrated into the proposed MIMO UWB radar. The field demonstration proves the feasibility and reliability of the proposed algorithm.

Modeling Massive Amount of Experimental Data with Large Random Matrices in a Real-Time UWB-MIMO System

The aim of this paper is to study data modeling for massive datasets. Large random matrices are used to model the massive amount of data collected from our experimental testbed. This testbed was developed for a real-time ultra-wideband, multiple input multiple output (UWB-MIMO) system. Empirical spectral density is the relevant information we seek for. After we treat this UWB-MIMO system as a black box, we aim to model the output of the black box as a large statistical system, whose outputs can be described by (large) random matrices. This model is extremely general to allow for the study of non-linear and non-Gaussian phenomenon. The good agreements between the theoretical predictions and the empirical findings validate the correctness of the our suggested data model.

On reformulated zagreb indices with respect to tricyclic graphs

The authors Mili$\breve{c}$evi$\acute{c}$ et al. introduced the reformulated Zagreb indices, which is a generalization of classical Zagreb indices of chemical graph theory. In the paper, we characterize the extremal properties of the first reformulated Zagreb index. We first introduce some graph operations which increase or decrease this index. Furthermore, we will determine the extremal tricyclic graphs with minimum and maximum the first Zagreb index by these graph operations.

Study of the material photon and electron background and the liquid argon detector veto efficiency of the CDEX-10 experiment

The China Dark Matter Experiment (CDEX) is located at the China Jinping underground laboratory (CJPL) and aims to directly detect the WIMP flux with high sensitivity in the low mass region. Here we present a study of the predicted photon and electron backgrounds including the background contribution of the structure materials of the germanium detector, the passive shielding materials, and the intrinsic radioactivity of the liquid argon that serves as an anti-Compton active shielding detector. A detailed geometry is modeled and the background contribution has been simulated based on the measured radioactivities of all possible components within the GEANT4 program. Then the photon and electron background level in the energy region of interest (<10^-2 events kg-1 day-1 keV-1 (cpkkd)) is predicted based on Monte Carlo simulations. The simulated result is consistent with the design goal of CDEX-10 experiment, 0.1 cpkkd, which shows that the active and passive shield design of CDEX-10 is effective and feasible.

The CDEX-1 1 kg Point-Contact Germanium Detector for Low Mass Dark Matter Searches

The CDEX Collaboration has been established for direct detection of light dark matter particles, using ultra-low energy threshold p-type point-contact germanium detectors, in China JinPing underground Laboratory (CJPL). The first 1 kg point-contact germanium detector with a sub-keV energy threshold has been tested in a passive shielding system located in CJPL. The outputs from both the point-contact p+ electrode and the outside n+ electrode make it possible to scan the lower energy range of less than 1 keV and at the same time to detect the higher energy range up to 3 MeV. The outputs from both p+ and n+ electrode may also provide a more powerful method for signal discrimination for dark matter experiment. Some key parameters, including energy resolution, dead time, decay times of internal X-rays, and system stability, have been tested and measured. The results show that the 1 kg point-contact germanium detector, together with its shielding system and electronics, can run smoothly with good performances. This detector system will be deployed for dark matter search experiments.

Introduction of the CDEX experiment

Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs) are the candidates of dark matter in our universe. Up to now any direct interaction of WIMP with nuclei has not been observed yet. The exclusion limits of the spin-independent cross section of WIMP-nucleon which have been experimentally obtained is about 10^{-7}pb at high mass region and only 10^{-5}pb} at low mass region. China Jin-Ping underground laboratory CJPL is the deepest underground lab in the world and provides a very promising environment for direct observation of dark matter. The China Dark Matter Experiment (CDEX) experiment is going to directly detect the WIMP flux with high sensitivity in the low mass region. Both CJPL and CDEX have achieved a remarkable progress in recent two years. The CDEX employs a point-contact germanium semi-conductor detector PCGe whose detection threshold is less than 300 eV. We report the measurement results of Muon flux, monitoring of radioactivity and Radon concentration carried out in CJPL, as well describe the structure and performance of the 1 kg PCGe detector CDEX-1 and 10kg detector array CDEX-10 including the detectors, electronics, shielding and cooling systems. Finally we discuss the physics goals of the CDEX-1, CDEX-10 and the future CDEX-1T detectors.

Apply Ant Colony Algorithm to Search All Extreme Points of Function

To find all extreme points of multimodal functions is called extremum problem, which is a well known difficult issue in optimization fields. Applying ant colony optimization (ACO) to solve this problem is rarely reported. The method of applying ACO to solve extremum problem is explored in this paper. Experiment shows that the solution error of the method presented in this paper is less than 10^-8. keywords: Extremum Problem; Ant Colony Optimization (ACO)

Apply Local Clustering Method to Improve the Running Speed of Ant Colony Optimization

Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) has time complexity O(t*m*N*N), and its typical application is to solve Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP), where t, m, and N denotes the iteration number, number of ants, number of cities respectively. Cutting down running time is one of study focuses, and one way is to decrease parameter t and N, especially N. For this focus, the following method is presented in this paper. Firstly, design a novel clustering algorithm named Special Local Clustering algorithm (SLC), then apply it to classify all cities into compact classes, where compact class is the class that all cities in this class cluster tightly in a small region. Secondly, let ACO act on every class to get a local TSP route. Thirdly, all local TSP routes are jointed to form solution. Fourthly, the inaccuracy of solution caused by clustering is eliminated. Simulation shows that the presented method improves the running speed of ACO by 200 factors at least. And this high speed is benefit from two factors. One is that class has small size and parameter N is cut down. The route length at every iteration step is convergent when ACO acts on compact class. The other factor is that, using the convergence of route length as termination criterion of ACO and parameter t is cut down.
