Momentum-Space-Engineered Spatial Photonic Ising Machine for Long-Range Interactions

Long-range Ising models (LRIMs) with dense nonlocal and competing interactions are central to statistical physics, quantum simulation, and complex networks. Although the spatial photonic Ising machine (SPIM) exploits intrinsic optical parallelism for Ising computation, its ability to faithfully encode dense long-range couplings and capture the resulting thermodynamic signatures remains underexplored. Here, we present a momentum-space-engineered SPIM framework that maps prescribed long-range coupling kernels onto momentum-space masks for parallel Hamiltonian evaluation. Based on a high-fidelity optical field propagation model, the annealing dynamics of LRIMs with power-law and Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida (RKKY) interactions are systematically investigated. For the power-law model, we investigate the modulation of the estimated critical temperature by the decay exponent {\sigma} and coupling cutoff radius R. For the RKKY model, we reproduce diverse ordered states induced by complex competing long-range interactions. A proof-of-principle experiment demonstrates the physical feasibility of our approach. This framework broadens the class of many-body systems accessible to the SPIM platform.

Timing-injection locking in a self-starting Mamyshev oscillator induced by the dissipative Faraday instability

Mamyshev oscillators (MOs), a novel class of passively mode-locked fiber lasers, serve as an excellent platform to explore complex nonlinear dynamics, ranging from localized structures to chaos. Despite their versatility, achieving self-starting mode-locking remains a significant challenge. In this study, we unveil the critical role of the dissipative Faraday instability (DFI) in facilitating the self-starting process of MOs, where the DFI triggers the symmetry breaking of the homogeneous solution to overcome the initiation barriers. A panoramic view of several distinct operational regimes with distinct DFI patterns is provided, namely the non-self-starting states, the irregular patterns, the harmonic mode locking regime, the stable single pulse and the stable multi pulse regime. For the lattest case, we uncover the origins of randomness in these pulse sequences through analyzing the causality between the timing of the random pulses and the initial seeding conditions. Building upon these findings, we propose the novel time-injection locking technique to customize the temporal locations of the pulses as well as the pattern timing in MOs, thus demonstrating its potential for applications in all-optical data storage and tunable ultrashort pulse sources.

Compact Broadband Light Source Based on Noise-Like Pulses

We report on broadband generation based on noise-like pulse (NLP) fiber lasers at 1.55 {\mu}m and 1.06 {\mu}m, respectively. The 1.55 {\mu}m laser system can generate a broadband spectrum with a 20 dB bandwidth of up to 205 nm, while the 1.06 {\mu}m one can achieve a 20 dB bandwidth of 341 nm after amplification and spectral broadening. Simulation results reproduce experimental details and highlight the role of nonlinear effects in achieving broad spectral outputs, underscoring the suitability of NLPs for advanced applications.

Spatial-temporal manipulations of visible nanosecond sub-pulse sequences in an actively Q-switched Pr:YLF laser

Pulsed visible lasers either by Q-switching or mode locking have been attracting intense attentions both in solid-state laser and fiber laser. Here, we report on the simultaneous manipulation of reconfigurable sub-pulse sequences and customizable high-order vortex beams in an actively Q-switched visible laser. On the one hand, pulse sequences with up to 4 sub-pulses could be generated and fully controlled by means of an acoustic-optic modulator driven by an arbitrary waveform generator. Both pulse number and pulse intensity can be manipulated through the programmable step-signal, which is also theoretically simulated through the rate equations. On the other hand, assisted by the off-axis pumping technique and the astigmatic mode conversion, the laser cavity could emit high-quality vortex beams carrying Laguerre-Gaussian modes up to 30th order. To the best of our knowledge, this is the most flexible active manipulations not only on the intensity distribution of the transverse modes but also on the temporal distribution of the pulse sequences in a visible laser. The versatile manipulating techniques in this work could be immediately implemented into all other solid-state lasers to obtain sub-pulse vortex beams, which may provide enhanced functionality and flexibility for a large range of laser systems.

Soliton Distillation in Fiber Lasers

Pure solitons are for the first time distilled from the resonant continuous wave (CW) background in a fiber laser by utilizing nonlinear Fourier transform (NFT). It is identified that the soliton and the resonant CW background have different eigenvalue distributions in the nonlinear frequency domain. Similar to water distillation, we propose the approach of soliton distillation, by making NFT on a steady pulse generated from a fiber laser, then filtering out the eigenvalues of the resonant CW background in the nonlinear frequency domain, and finally recovering the soliton by inverse NFT (INFT). Simulation results verify that the soliton can be distinguished from the resonant CW background in the nonlinear frequency domain and pure solitons can be obtained by INFT.

Period-doubling bifurcation of dissipative-soliton-resonance pulses in a passively mode-locked fiber laser

We report on the experimental observation of period-doubling bifurcation of dissipative-soliton-resonance (DSR) pulses in a fiber laser passively mode-locked by using the nonlinear optical loop mirror. Increasing the pump power of the fiber laser, we show that temporally a stable, uniform DSR pulse train could be transformed into a period-doubling state, exhibiting two sets of pulse parameters between the adjacent cavity roundtrip. It is found that DSR pulses in the period-doubling state could maintain the typical feature of DSR pulse: fixed pulse peak power and linear variation in pulse width with respect to the pump power change. The mechanism for achieving period-doubling of DSR pulses is discussed.
