MultiDx: A Multi-Source Knowledge Integration Framework towards Diagnostic Reasoning

Diagnostic prediction and clinical reasoning are critical tasks in healthcare applications. While Large Language Models (LLMs) have shown strong capabilities in commonsense reasoning, they still struggle with diagnostic reasoning due to limited domain knowledge. Existing approaches often rely on internal model knowledge or static knowledge bases, resulting in knowledge insufficiency and limited adaptability, which hinder their capacity to perform diagnostic reasoning. Moreover, these methods focus solely on the accuracy of final predictions, overlooking alignment with standard clinical reasoning trajectories. To this end, we propose MultiDx, a two-stage diagnostic reasoning framework that performs differential diagnosis by analyzing evidence collected from multiple knowledge sources. Specifically, it first generates suspected diagnoses and reasoning paths by leveraging knowledge from web search, SOAP-formatted case, and clinical case database. Then it integrates multi-perspective evidence through matching, voting, and differential diagnosis to generate the final prediction.~Extensive experiments on two public benchmarks demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach.

Tandem: Riding Together with Large and Small Language Models for Efficient Reasoning

Recent advancements in large language models (LLMs) have catalyzed the rise of reasoning-intensive inference paradigms, where models perform explicit step-by-step reasoning before generating final answers. While such approaches improve answer quality and interpretability, they incur substantial computational overhead due to the prolonged generation sequences. In this paper, we propose Tandem, a novel collaborative framework that synergizes large and small language models (LLMs and SLMs) to achieve high-quality reasoning with significantly reduced computational cost. Specifically, the LLM serves as a strategic coordinator, efficiently generating a compact set of critical reasoning insights. These insights are then used to guide a smaller, more efficient SLM in executing the full reasoning process and delivering the final response. To balance efficiency and reliability, Tandem introduces a cost-aware termination mechanism that adaptively determines when sufficient reasoning guidance has been accumulated, enabling early stopping of the LLM's generation. Experiments on mathematical reasoning and code generation benchmarks demonstrate that Tandem reduces computational costs by approximately 40% compared to standalone LLM reasoning, while achieving superior or competitive performance. Furthermore, the sufficiency classifier trained on one domain transfers effectively to others without retraining. The code is available at: https://github.com/Applied-Machine-Learning-Lab/ACL2026_Tandem.

Inflated Excellence or True Performance? Rethinking Medical Diagnostic Benchmarks with Dynamic Evaluation

Medical diagnostics is a high-stakes and complex domain that is critical to patient care. However, current evaluations of large language models (LLMs) remain limited in capturing key challenges of clinical diagnostic scenarios. Most rely on benchmarks derived from public exams, raising contamination bias that can inflate performance, and they overlook the confounded nature of real consultations beyond textbook cases. Recent dynamic evaluations offer a promising alternative, but often remain insufficient for diagnosis-oriented benchmarking, with limited coverage of clinically grounded confounders and trustworthiness beyond accuracy. To address these gaps, we propose DyReMe, a dynamic benchmark for medical diagnostics that provides a controlled and scalable stress test of diagnostic robustness. Unlike static exam-style questions, DyReMe generates fresh, consultation-style cases that incorporate clinically grounded confounders, such as differential diagnoses and common misdiagnosis factors. It also varies expression styles to capture heterogeneous patient-style descriptions. Beyond accuracy, DyReMe evaluates LLMs on three additional clinically relevant dimensions: veracity, helpfulness, and consistency. Our experiments show that this dynamic approach yields more challenging assessments and exposes substantial weaknesses of stateof-the-art LLMs under clinically confounded diagnostic settings. These findings highlight the urgent need for evaluation frameworks that better assess trustworthy medical diagnostics 1 under clinically grounded confounders.

O3LS: Optimizing Lattice Surgery via Automatic Layout Searching and Loose Scheduling

Toward the large-scale, practical realization of quantum computing, quantum error correction is essential. Among various quantum error-correcting codes, the surface code stands out as a leading candidate, and lattice surgery based on surface codes has emerged as a promising technique for fault-tolerant quantum computation (FTQC). However, implementing quantum algorithms using lattice surgery introduces both resource and time overhead. Existing approaches typically focus on large layout designs, with compiler passes aimed primarily at optimizing time overhead. This often overlooks the trade-off between rotation bottlenecks and movement distance, which leads to inefficient resource utilization and prevents further reduction of the quantum computation failure rate. To address these challenges, we introduce O3LS, a framework for optimizing lattice surgery through automatic layout search and loose scheduling. O3LS achieves an optimal balance by automatically generating squeezed data layouts to reduce space requirements and employing loose scheduling algorithms combined with circuit synthesis techniques to reduce time overhead, thereby effectively minimizing overall logical error rates. Numerical results indicate that O3LS can reduce space overhead by 28.0% over standard layouts and 46.7% over sparse layouts without increasing the number of time steps, leading to suppression of logical error rates by up to 16% relative to larger data layout designs. O3LS can also achieve time overhead reductions of 36.07% and 24.76% in compact and standard data layout designs, respectively. It suppresses logical error rates by up to an order of magnitude compared to prior compilers that focus primarily on maximizing parallelism.

Guaranteeing Knowledge Integration with Joint Decoding for Retrieval-Augmented Generation

Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) significantly enhances Large Language Models (LLMs) by providing access to external knowledge. However, current research primarily focuses on retrieval quality, often overlooking the critical ''integration bottleneck'': even when relevant documents are retrieved, LLMs frequently fail to utilize them effectively due to conflicts with their internal parametric knowledge. In this paper, we argue that implicitly resolving this conflict in a single generation pass is suboptimal. We introduce GuarantRAG, a framework that explicitly decouples reasoning from evidence integration. First, we generate an ''Inner-Answer'' based solely on parametric knowledge to capture the model's reasoning flow. Second, to guarantee faithful evidence extraction, we generate a ''Refer-Answer'' using a novel Contrastive DPO objective. This objective treats the parametric Inner-Answer as a negative constraint and the retrieved documents as positive ground truth, forcing the model to suppress internal hallucinations in favor of external evidence during this phase. Finally, rather than naive concatenation or using the DPO trained model directly, we propose a joint decoding mechanism that dynamically fuses the logical coherence of the Inner-Answer with the factual precision of the Refer-Answer at the token level. Experiments on five QA benchmarks demonstrate that GuarantRAG improves accuracy by up to 12.1% and reduces hallucinations by 16.3% compared to standard and dynamic RAG baselines.

Unlocking a fast adiabatic CZ gate and exact residual $ZZ$ cancellation between fixed-frequency transmons using a floating tunable coupler

Tunable couplers in superconducting qubit architectures enable strong qubit-qubit interactions for two-qubit gates while suppressing unwanted coupling during single-qubit operations. However, achieving low error rates for fast two-qubit gates remains challenging, as suppressing leakage and non-adiabatic errors typically requires specialized qubit, coupler, or pulse designs, often at the expense of an idling $ZZ=0$ condition. In this work, we demonstrate that a symmetric floating tunable coupler provides a natural platform for fast, high-fidelity adiabatic controlled-Z (CZ) gates. Its favorable energy-level structure eliminates the conventional trade-off between rapid conditional-phase accumulation and adiabatic evolution while preserving exact cancellation of residual $ZZ$ interaction at idling. This architecture exhibits intrinsic robustness to non-adiabatic transitions, even under simple flux modulation waveforms. To push performance at short gate durations, where maintaining adiabaticity becomes more challenging despite the favorable level structure, we introduce pulse-shaping techniques based on the instantaneous adiabatic factor that further suppress non-adiabatic errors. We experimentally realize a 24 ns adiabatic CZ gate with fidelity exceeding 99.9% and stable operation over several hours.

M2StyleGS: Multi-Modality 3D Style Transfer with Gaussian Splatting

Conventional 3D style transfer methods rely on a fixed reference image to apply artistic patterns to 3D scenes. However, in practical applications such as virtual or augmented reality, users often prefer more flexible inputs, including textual descriptions and diverse imagery. In this work, we introduce a novel real-time styling technique M2StyleGS to generate a sequence of precisely color-mapped views. It utilizes 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) as a 3D presentation and multi-modality knowledge refined by CLIP as a reference style. M2StyleGS resolves the abnormal transformation issue by employing a precise feature alignment, namely subdivisive flow, it strengthens the projection of the mapped CLIP text-visual combination feature to the VGG style feature. In addition, we introduce observation loss, which assists in the stylized scene better matching the reference style during the generation, and suppression loss, which suppresses the offset of reference color information throughout the decoding process. By integrating these approaches, M2StyleGS can employ text or images as references to generate a set of style-enhanced novel views. Our experiments show that M2StyleGS achieves better visual quality and surpasses the previous work by up to 32.92% in terms of consistency.

OMNIFLOW: A Physics-Grounded Multimodal Agent for Generalized Scientific Reasoning

Large Language Models (LLMs) have demonstrated exceptional logical reasoning capabilities but frequently struggle with the continuous spatiotemporal dynamics governed by Partial Differential Equations (PDEs), often resulting in non-physical hallucinations. Existing approaches typically resort to costly, domain-specific fine-tuning, which severely limits cross-domain generalization and interpretability. To bridge this gap, we propose OMNIFLOW, a neuro-symbolic architecture designed to ground frozen multimodal LLMs in fundamental physical laws without requiring domain-specific parameter updates. OMNIFLOW introduces a novel \textit{Semantic-Symbolic Alignment} mechanism that projects high-dimensional flow tensors into topological linguistic descriptors, enabling the model to perceive physical structures rather than raw pixel values. Furthermore, we construct a Physics-Guided Chain-of-Thought (PG-CoT) workflow that orchestrates reasoning through dynamic constraint injection (e.g., mass conservation) and iterative reflexive verification. We evaluate OMNIFLOW on a comprehensive benchmark spanning microscopic turbulence, theoretical Navier-Stokes equations, and macroscopic global weather forecasting. Empirical results demonstrate that OMNIFLOW significantly outperforms traditional deep learning baselines in zero-shot generalization and few-shot adaptation tasks. Crucially, it offers transparent, physically consistent reasoning reports, marking a paradigm shift from black-box fitting to interpretable scientific reasoning.

This Looks Distinctly Like That: Grounding Interpretable Recognition in Stiefel Geometry against Neural Collapse

Prototype networks provide an intrinsic case based explanation mechanism, but their interpretability is often undermined by prototype collapse, where multiple prototypes degenerate to highly redundant evidence. We attribute this failure mode to the terminal dynamics of Neural Collapse, where cross entropy optimization suppresses intra class variance and drives class conditional features toward a low dimensional limit. To mitigate this, we propose Adaptive Manifold Prototypes (AMP), a framework that leverages Riemannian optimization on the Stiefel manifold to represent class prototypes as orthonormal bases and make rank one prototype collapse infeasible by construction. AMP further learns class specific effective rank via a proximal gradient update on a nonnegative capacity vector, and introduces spatial regularizers that reduce rotational ambiguity and encourage localized, non overlapping part evidence. Extensive experiments on fine-grained benchmarks demonstrate that AMP achieves state-of-the-art classification accuracy while significantly improving causal faithfulness over prior interpretable models.

Compactifications of spaces of symmetric matrices and pointed Kontsevich spaces of isotropic Grassmannians

We study two closely related families of varieties arising from genus $0$ stable maps to the Lagrangian Grassmannian $\operatorname{LG}(n,2n)$. First, we construct the Kausz--type compactification $\mathcal {TL}_n$ of the space of symmetric matrices and give an explicit description of its birational geometry. Second, we realize $\mathcal {TL}_n$ as a general evaluation fiber in a Kontsevich space, and then exploit this modular interpretation to derive consequences for the birational geometry of the space of pointed conics $\overline{M}_{0,1}(\operatorname{LG}(n,2n),2)$. Analogous compactifications related to orthogonal Grassmannians are also presented.

Structure Observation Driven Image-Text Contrastive Learning for Computed Tomography Report Generation

Computed Tomography Report Generation (CTRG) aims to automate the clinical radiology reporting process, thereby reducing the workload of report writing and facilitating patient care. While deep learning approaches have achieved remarkable advances in X-ray report generation, their effectiveness may be limited in CTRG due to larger data volumes of CT images and more intricate details required to describe them. This work introduces a novel two-stage (structure- and report-learning) framework tailored for CTRG featuring effective structure-wise image-text contrasting. In the first stage, a set of learnable structure-specific visual queries observe corresponding structures in a CT image. The resulting observation tokens are contrasted with structure-specific textual features extracted from the accompanying radiology report with a structure-wise image-text contrastive loss. In addition, text-text similarity-based soft pseudo targets are proposed to mitigate the impact of false negatives, i.e., semantically identical image structures and texts from non-paired images and reports. Thus, the model learns structure-level semantic correspondences between CT images and reports. Further, a dynamic, diversity-enhanced negative queue is proposed to guide the network in learning to discriminate various abnormalities. In the second stage, the visual structure queries are frozen and used to select the critical image patch embeddings depicting each anatomical structure, minimizing distractions from irrelevant areas while reducing memory consumption. Also, a text decoder is added and trained for report generation. Our extensive experiments on two public datasets demonstrate that our framework establishes new state-of-the-art performance for CTRG in clinical efficiency, and its components are effective.

Federated Modality-specific Encoders and Partially Personalized Fusion Decoder for Multimodal Brain Tumor Segmentation

Most existing federated learning (FL) methods for medical image analysis only considered intramodal heterogeneity, limiting their applicability to multimodal imaging applications. In practice, some FL participants may possess only a subset of the complete imaging modalities, posing intermodal heterogeneity as a challenge to effectively training a global model on all participants' data. Meanwhile, each participant expects a personalized model tailored to its local data characteristics in FL. This work proposes a new FL framework with federated modality-specific encoders and partially personalized multimodal fusion decoders (FedMEPD) to address the two concurrent issues. Specifically, FedMEPD employs an exclusive encoder for each modality to account for the intermodal heterogeneity. While these encoders are fully federated, the decoders are partially personalized to meet individual needs -- using the discrepancy between global and local parameter updates to dynamically determine which decoder filters are personalized. Implementation-wise, a server with full-modal data employs a fusion decoder to fuse representations from all modality-specific encoders, thus bridging the modalities to optimize the encoders via backpropagation. Moreover, multiple anchors are extracted from the fused multimodal representations and distributed to the clients in addition to the model parameters. Conversely, the clients with incomplete modalities calibrate their missing-modal representations toward the global full-modal anchors via scaled dot-product cross-attention, making up for the information loss due to absent modalities. FedMEPD is validated on the BraTS 2018 and 2020 multimodal brain tumor segmentation benchmarks. Results show that it outperforms various up-to-date methods for multimodal and personalized FL, and its novel designs are effective.

Canonical blow-ups of Lagrangian and Orthogonal Grassmannians

Let $\mathbf{LG}(V\oplus V^*)$ and $\mathbf{OG}^+(V\oplus V^*)$ denote the Lagrangian and orthogonal Grassmannians endowed with the natural $\mathbb{G}_m$-actions, respectively. Thaddeus proved that over $\mathbb{C}$, the Hilbert quotients $\mathbf{LG}(V\oplus V^*)\!/\!/\mathbb{G}_m$ and $\mathbf{OG}^+(V\oplus V^*)\!/\!/\mathbb{G}_m$ are isomorphic to the wonderful compactifications of the spaces of symmetric and skew-symmetric matrices of maximal ranks, that is, the spaces of complete quadrics and complete skew-forms, respectively. In this paper, we construct the universal families of these Hilbert quotients by explicitly blowing up the corresponding isotropic Grassmannians, resulting in smooth toroidal compactifications of the spaces of symmetric and skew-symmetric matrices of maximal ranks (before projectivization), which have simple normal crossing boundary divisors and include the spaces of the complete bilinear forms among these divisors. Specifically, we prove that over any algebraically closed field, the universal families of these Hilbert quotients are smooth, and the Hilbert quotients themselves are isomorphic to the spaces of the complete bilinear forms. Over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero, we prove that the universal families are weak Fano varieties with vanishing higher cohomology groups for their tangent bundles, and are therefore locally rigid. Furthermore, we show that these universal families naturally resolve the Landsberg-Manivel rational maps from projective spaces to isotropic Grassmannians.

X-ray Insights Unleashed: Pioneering the Enhancement of Multi-Label Long-Tail Data

Long-tailed pulmonary anomalies in chest radiography present formidable diagnostic challenges. Despite the recent strides in diffusion-based methods for enhancing the representation of tailed lesions, the paucity of rare lesion exemplars curtails the generative capabilities of these approaches, thereby leaving the diagnostic precision less than optimal. In this paper, we propose a novel data synthesis pipeline designed to augment tail lesions utilizing a copious supply of conventional normal X-rays. Specifically, a sufficient quantity of normal samples is amassed to train a diffusion model capable of generating normal X-ray images. This pre-trained diffusion model is subsequently utilized to inpaint the head lesions present in the diseased X-rays, thereby preserving the tail classes as augmented training data. Additionally, we propose the integration of a Large Language Model Knowledge Guidance (LKG) module alongside a Progressive Incremental Learning (PIL) strategy to stabilize the inpainting fine-tuning process. Comprehensive evaluations conducted on the public lung datasets MIMIC and CheXpert demonstrate that the proposed method sets a new benchmark in performance.

Offline-Poly: A Polyhedral Framework For Offline 3D Multi-Object Tracking

Offline 3D multi-object tracking (MOT) is a critical component of the 4D auto-labeling (4DAL) process. It enhances pseudo-labels generated by high-performance detectors through the incorporation of temporal context. However, existing offline 3D MOT approaches are direct extensions of online frameworks and fail to fully exploit the advantages of offline setting. Moreover, these methods often depend on fixed upstream and customized architectures, limiting their adaptability. To address these limitations, we propose Offline-Poly, a general offline 3D MOT method based on a tracking-centric design. We introduce a standardized paradigm termed Tracking-by-Tracking (TBT), which operates exclusively on arbitrary off-the-shelf tracking outputs and produces offline-refined tracklets. This formulation decouples offline tracker from specific upstream detectors or trackers. Under the TBT paradigm, Offline-Poly accepts one or multiple coarse tracking results and processes them through a structured pipeline comprising pre-processing, hierarchical matching and fusion, and tracklet refinement. Each module is designed to capitalize on the two fundamental properties of offline tracking: resource unconstrainedness, which permits global optimization beyond real-time limits, and future observability, which enables tracklet reasoning over the full temporal horizon. Offline-Poly first eliminates short-term ghost tracklets and re-identifies fragmented segments using global scene context. It then constructs scene-level similarity to associate tracklets across multiple input sources. Finally, Offline-Poly refines tracklets by jointly leveraging local and global motion patterns. On nuScenes, we achieve SOTA performance with 77.6% AMOTA. On KITTI, it achieves leading results with 83.00% HOTA. Comprehensive experiments further validate the flexibility, generalizability, and modular effectiveness of Offline-Poly.

MME-Emotion: A Holistic Evaluation Benchmark for Emotional Intelligence in Multimodal Large Language Models

Recent advances in multimodal large language models (MLLMs) have catalyzed transformative progress in affective computing, enabling models to exhibit emergent emotional intelligence. Despite substantial methodological progress, current emotional benchmarks remain limited, as it is still unknown: (a) the generalization abilities of MLLMs across distinct scenarios, and (b) their reasoning capabilities to identify the triggering factors behind emotional states. To bridge these gaps, we present \textbf{MME-Emotion}, a systematic benchmark that assesses both emotional understanding and reasoning capabilities of MLLMs, enjoying \textit{scalable capacity}, \textit{diverse settings}, and \textit{unified protocols}. As the largest emotional intelligence benchmark for MLLMs, MME-Emotion contains over 6,000 curated video clips with task-specific questioning-answering (QA) pairs, spanning broad scenarios to formulate eight emotional tasks. It further incorporates a holistic evaluation suite with hybrid metrics for emotion recognition and reasoning, analyzed through a multi-agent system framework. Through a rigorous evaluation of 20 advanced MLLMs, we uncover both their strengths and limitations, yielding several key insights: \ding{182} Current MLLMs exhibit unsatisfactory emotional intelligence, with the best-performing model achieving only $39.3\%$ recognition score and $56.0\%$ Chain-of-Thought (CoT) score on our benchmark. \ding{183} Generalist models (\emph{e.g.}, Gemini-2.5-Pro) derive emotional intelligence from generalized multimodal understanding capabilities, while specialist models (\emph{e.g.}, R1-Omni) can achieve comparable performance through domain-specific post-training adaptation. By introducing MME-Emotion, we hope that it can serve as a foundation for advancing MLLMs' emotional intelligence in the future.

Copy-Paste to Mitigate Large Language Model Hallucinations

While Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) enables large language models (LLMs) to generate contextually grounded responses, contextual faithfulness remains challenging as LLMs may not consistently trust provided context, leading to hallucinations that undermine reliability. We observe an inverse correlation between response copying degree and context-unfaithful hallucinations on RAGTruth, suggesting that higher copying degrees reduce hallucinations by fostering genuine contextual belief. We propose CopyPasteLLM, obtained through two-stage high-copying response preference training. We design three prompting methods to enhance copying degree, demonstrating that high-copying responses achieve superior contextual faithfulness and hallucination control. These approaches enable a fully automated pipeline that transforms generated responses into high-copying preference data for training CopyPasteLLM. On FaithEval, ConFiQA and PubMedQA, CopyPasteLLM achieves best performance in both counterfactual and original contexts, remarkably with 12.2% to 24.5% accuracy improvements on FaithEval over the best baseline, while requiring only 365 training samples -- 1/50th of baseline data. To elucidate CopyPasteLLM's effectiveness, we propose the Context-Parameter Copying Capturing algorithm. Interestingly, this reveals that CopyPasteLLM recalibrates reliance on internal parametric knowledge rather than external knowledge during generation. Building Coding Agents via Entropy-Enhanced Multi-Turn Preference Optimization

Software engineering presents complex, multi-step challenges for Large Language Models (LLMs), requiring reasoning over large codebases and coordinated tool use. The difficulty of these tasks is exemplified by benchmarks like SWE-bench, where current LLMs still struggle to resolve real-world issues. A promising approach to enhance performance is test-time scaling (TTS), but its gains are heavily dependent on the diversity of model outputs. While standard alignment methods such as Direct Preference Optimization (DPO) and Kahneman-Tversky Optimization (KTO) are effective at aligning model outputs with human preferences, this process can come at the cost of reduced diversity, limiting the effectiveness of TTS. Additionally, existing preference optimization algorithms are typically designed for single-turn tasks and do not fully address the complexities of multi-turn reasoning and tool integration required for interactive coding agents. To bridge this gap, we introduce EntroPO, an entropy-enhanced framework that adapts existing preference optimization algorithms to the multi-turn, tool-assisted setting. EntroPO augments the preference objective to explicitly preserve policy entropy and generalizes learning to optimize over multi-turn interactions rather than single-turn responses. We validate EntroPO by fine-tuning a diverse suite of models from different families and sizes (up to 106B parameters). To maximize performance gains from TTS, we further propose a hybrid best-trajectory selection scheme combining a learned verifier model with model free approaches. On the SWEBENCH leaderboard, our approach establishes new state-of-the-art results among open-weight models. A 30B parameter model trained with EntroPO ranks 1st on SWEBENCH-LITE and 4th on SWEBENCH-VERIFIED on the open-weight leaderboard, surpassed only by models with over 10x more parameters(e.g., >$350B).
