Dynamics of spin-2 Bose condensate driven by external magnetic fields

Dynamic response of the F=2 spinor Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) under the influence of external magnetic fields is studied. A general formula is given for the oscillation period to describe population transfer from the initial polar state to other spin states. We show that when the frequency and the reduced amplitude of the longitudinal magnetic field are related in a specific manner, the population of the initial spin-0 state will be dynamically localized during time evolution. The effects of external noise and nonlinear spin exchange interaction on the dynamics of the spinor BEC are studied. We show that while the external noise may eventually destroy the Rabi oscillations and dynamic spin localization, these coherent phenomena are robust against the nonlinear atomic interaction.

Understanding Quantum Entanglement of Bipartite System Based on Bell Inequality

We present an alternative definition of quantum entanglement for bipartite system based on Bell inequality and operators' noncommutativity. A state is said to be entangled, if the maximum of CHSH expectation value $F_{\max}$ is obtain by noncommutative measures on each particle of the bipartite system; otherwise, the state is a disentangled state. A uniform measure quantifying the degree of entanglement for any state of the bipartite system is also proposed.

Zener transitions between dissipative Bloch bands. II: Current Response at Finite Temperature

We extend, to include the effects of finite temperature, our earlier study of the interband dynamics of electrons with Markoffian dephasing under the influence of uniform static electric fields. We use a simple two-band tight-binding model and study the electric current response as a function of field strength and the model parameters. In addition to the Esaki-Tsu peak, near where the Bloch frequency equals the damping rate, we find current peaks near the Zener resonances, at equally spaced values of the inverse electric field. These become more prominenent and numerous with increasing bandwidth (in units of the temperature, with other parameters fixed). As expected, they broaden with increasing damping (dephasing).

Zener Transitions Between Dissipative Bloch Bands

Within a two-band tight binding model, we investigate the dynamics of electrons with Markoffian dephasing under the influence of static electric fields. With the help of both numerical and analytic calculations we find that the dephasing ultimately takes electrons which are initially located in one miniband to equal population of the two minibands, instead of undergoing persistent Rabi flop, as they do in the absence of scattering. Miniband localization is wholly destroyed by the intervention of dephasing. We also obtain the effective decay time for the approach to equal band populations under conditions of small interband communication and in the long-time limit, through a perturbative calculation. The decay rate shows characteristic sharp peaks at values of the parameters which give Zener resonances.

Time Periodic Behavior of Multiband Superlattices in Static Electric Fields

We use an analytic perturbation expansion for the two-band system of tight binding electrons to discuss Bloch oscillations and Zener tunneling within this model. We make comparison with recent numerical results and predict analytically the frequency of radiation expected from Zener tunneling, including its disappearance, as a function of the system parameters.
