Residual Learning Inspired Crossover Operator and Strategy Enhancements for Evolutionary Multitasking

In evolutionary multitasking, strategies such as crossover operators and skill factor assignment are critical for effective knowledge transfer. Existing improvements to crossover operators primarily focus on low-dimensional variable combinations, such as arithmetic crossover or partially mapped crossover, which are insufficient for modeling complex high-dimensional interactions. Moreover, static or semi-dynamic crossover strategies fail to adapt to the dynamic dependencies among tasks. In addition, current Multifactorial Evolutionary Algorithm frameworks often rely on fixed skill factor assignment strategies, lacking flexibility. To address these limitations, this paper proposes the Multifactorial Evolutionary Algorithm-Residual Learning (MFEA-RL) method based on residual learning. The method employs a Very Deep Super-Resolution (VDSR) model to generate high-dimensional residual representations of individuals, enhancing the modeling of complex relationships within dimensions. A ResNet-based mechanism dynamically assigns skill factors to improve task adaptability, while a random mapping mechanism efficiently performs crossover operations and mitigates the risk of negative transfer. Theoretical analysis and experimental results show that MFEA-RL outperforms state-of-the-art multitasking algorithms. It excels in both convergence and adaptability on standard evolutionary multitasking benchmarks, including CEC2017-MTSO and WCCI2020-MTSO. Additionally, its effectiveness is validated through a real-world application scenario.

GFE-Mamba: Mamba-based AD Multi-modal Progression Assessment via Generative Feature Extraction from MCI

Alzheimer's Disease (AD) is a progressive, irreversible neurodegenerative disorder that often originates from Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI). This progression results in significant memory loss and severely affects patients' quality of life. Clinical trials have consistently shown that early and targeted interventions for individuals with MCI may slow or even prevent the advancement of AD. Research indicates that accurate medical classification requires diverse multimodal data, including detailed assessment scales and neuroimaging techniques like Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Positron Emission Tomography (PET). However, simultaneously collecting the aforementioned three modalities for training presents substantial challenges. To tackle these difficulties, we propose GFE-Mamba, a multimodal classifier founded on Generative Feature Extractor. The intermediate features provided by this Extractor can compensate for the shortcomings of PET and achieve profound multimodal fusion in the classifier. The Mamba block, as the backbone of the classifier, enables it to efficiently extract information from long-sequence scale information. Pixel-level Bi-cross Attention supplements pixel-level information from MRI and PET. We provide our rationale for developing this cross-temporal progression prediction dataset and the pre-trained Extractor weights. Our experimental findings reveal that the GFE-Mamba model effectively predicts the progression from MCI to AD and surpasses several leading methods in the field. Learning Photometric Feature Transform for Free-form Object Scan

We propose a novel framework to automatically learn to aggregate and transform photometric measurements from multiple unstructured views into spatially distinctive and view-invariant low-level features, which are subsequently fed to a multi-view stereo pipeline to enhance 3D reconstruction. The illumination conditions during acquisition and the feature transform are jointly trained on a large amount of synthetic data. We further build a system to reconstruct both the geometry and anisotropic reflectance of a variety of challenging objects from hand-held scans. The effectiveness of the system is demonstrated with a lightweight prototype, consisting of a camera and an array of LEDs, as well as an off-the-shelf tablet. Our results are validated against reconstructions from a professional 3D scanner and photographs, and compare favorably with state-of-the-art techniques.

ARM: Appearance Reconstruction Model for Relightable 3D Generation

Recent image-to-3D reconstruction models have greatly advanced geometry generation, but they still struggle to faithfully generate realistic appearance. To address this, we introduce ARM, a novel method that reconstructs high-quality 3D meshes and realistic appearance from sparse-view images. The core of ARM lies in decoupling geometry from appearance, processing appearance within the UV texture space. Unlike previous methods, ARM improves texture quality by explicitly back-projecting measurements onto the texture map and processing them in a UV space module with a global receptive field. To resolve ambiguities between material and illumination in input images, ARM introduces a material prior that encodes semantic appearance information, enhancing the robustness of appearance decomposition. Trained on just 8 H100 GPUs, ARM outperforms existing methods both quantitatively and qualitatively.

GS^3: Efficient Relighting with Triple Gaussian Splatting

We present a spatial and angular Gaussian based representation and a triple splatting process, for real-time, high-quality novel lighting-and-view synthesis from multi-view point-lit input images. To describe complex appearance, we employ a Lambertian plus a mixture of angular Gaussians as an effective reflectance function for each spatial Gaussian. To generate self-shadow, we splat all spatial Gaussians towards the light source to obtain shadow values, which are further refined by a small multi-layer perceptron. To compensate for other effects like global illumination, another network is trained to compute and add a per-spatial-Gaussian RGB tuple. The effectiveness of our representation is demonstrated on 30 samples with a wide variation in geometry (from solid to fluffy) and appearance (from translucent to anisotropic), as well as using different forms of input data, including rendered images of synthetic/reconstructed objects, photographs captured with a handheld camera and a flash, or from a professional lightstage. We achieve a training time of 40-70 minutes and a rendering speed of 90 fps on a single commodity GPU. Our results compare favorably with state-of-the-art techniques in terms of quality/performance. Our code and data are publicly available at https://GSrelight.github.io/.

FDNet: Feature Decoupled Segmentation Network for Tooth CBCT Image

Precise Tooth Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) image segmentation is crucial for orthodontic treatment planning. In this paper, we propose FDNet, a Feature Decoupled Segmentation Network, to excel in the face of the variable dental conditions encountered in CBCT scans, such as complex artifacts and indistinct tooth boundaries. The Low-Frequency Wavelet Transform (LF-Wavelet) is employed to enrich the semantic content by emphasizing the global structural integrity of the teeth, while the SAM encoder is leveraged to refine the boundary delineation, thus improving the contrast between adjacent dental structures. By integrating these dual aspects, FDNet adeptly addresses the semantic gap, providing a detailed and accurate segmentation. The framework's effectiveness is validated through rigorous benchmarks, achieving the top Dice and IoU scores of 85.28% and 75.23%, respectively. This innovative decoupling of semantic and boundary features capitalizes on the unique strengths of each element to elevate the quality of segmentation performance.

Gaussian Splashing: Unified Particles for Versatile Motion Synthesis and Rendering

We demonstrate the feasibility of integrating physics-based animations of solids and fluids with 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) to create novel effects in virtual scenes reconstructed using 3DGS. Leveraging the coherence of the Gaussian Splatting and Position-Based Dynamics (PBD) in the underlying representation, we manage rendering, view synthesis, and the dynamics of solids and fluids in a cohesive manner. Similar to GaussianShader, we enhance each Gaussian kernel with an added normal, aligning the kernel's orientation with the surface normal to refine the PBD simulation. This approach effectively eliminates spiky noises that arise from rotational deformation in solids. It also allows us to integrate physically based rendering to augment the dynamic surface reflections on fluids. Consequently, our framework is capable of realistically reproducing surface highlights on dynamic fluids and facilitating interactions between scene objects and fluids from new views. STS MICCAI 2023 Challenge: Grand challenge on 2D and 3D semi-supervised tooth segmentation

Computer-aided design (CAD) tools are increasingly popular in modern dental practice, particularly for treatment planning or comprehensive prognosis evaluation. In particular, the 2D panoramic X-ray image efficiently detects invisible caries, impacted teeth and supernumerary teeth in children, while the 3D dental cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is widely used in orthodontics and endodontics due to its low radiation dose. However, there is no open-access 2D public dataset for children's teeth and no open 3D dental CBCT dataset, which limits the development of automatic algorithms for segmenting teeth and analyzing diseases. The Semi-supervised Teeth Segmentation (STS) Challenge, a pioneering event in tooth segmentation, was held as a part of the MICCAI 2023 ToothFairy Workshop on the Alibaba Tianchi platform. This challenge aims to investigate effective semi-supervised tooth segmentation algorithms to advance the field of dentistry. In this challenge, we provide two modalities including the 2D panoramic X-ray images and the 3D CBCT tooth volumes. In Task 1, the goal was to segment tooth regions in panoramic X-ray images of both adult and pediatric teeth. Task 2 involved segmenting tooth sections using CBCT volumes. Limited labelled images with mostly unlabelled ones were provided in this challenge prompt using semi-supervised algorithms for training. In the preliminary round, the challenge received registration and result submission by 434 teams, with 64 advancing to the final round. This paper summarizes the diverse methods employed by the top-ranking teams in the STS MICCAI 2023 Challenge.

ZS-SRT: An Efficient Zero-Shot Super-Resolution Training Method for Neural Radiance Fields

Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF) have achieved great success in the task of synthesizing novel views that preserve the same resolution as the training views. However, it is challenging for NeRF to synthesize high-quality high-resolution novel views with low-resolution training data. To solve this problem, we propose a zero-shot super-resolution training framework for NeRF. This framework aims to guide the NeRF model to synthesize high-resolution novel views via single-scene internal learning rather than requiring any external high-resolution training data. Our approach consists of two stages. First, we learn a scene-specific degradation mapping by performing internal learning on a pretrained low-resolution coarse NeRF. Second, we optimize a super-resolution fine NeRF by conducting inverse rendering with our mapping function so as to backpropagate the gradients from low-resolution 2D space into the super-resolution 3D sampling space. Then, we further introduce a temporal ensemble strategy in the inference phase to compensate for the scene estimation errors. Our method is featured on two points: (1) it does not consume high-resolution views or additional scene data to train super-resolution NeRF; (2) it can speed up the training process by adopting a coarse-to-fine strategy. By conducting extensive experiments on public datasets, we have qualitatively and quantitatively demonstrated the effectiveness of our method.

Human Behavior Recognition Method Based on CEEMD-ES Radar Selection

In recent years, the millimeter-wave radar to identify human behavior has been widely used in medical, security, and other fields. When multiple radars are performing detection tasks, the validity of the features contained in each radar is difficult to guarantee. In addition, processing multiple radar data also requires a lot of time and computational cost. The Complementary Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition-Energy Slice (CEEMD-ES) multistatic radar selection method is proposed to solve these problems. First, this method decomposes and reconstructs the radar signal according to the difference in the reflected echo frequency between the limbs and the trunk of the human body. Then, the radar is selected according to the difference between the ratio of echo energy of limbs and trunk and the theoretical value. The time domain, frequency domain and various entropy features of the selected radar are extracted. Finally, the Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) recognition model of the ReLu core is established. Experiments show that this method can effectively select the radar, and the recognition rate of three kinds of human actions is 98.53%.

Anisotropic Bi2O2Se(Te) Monolayer: Realizing Ultra-High Carrier Mobility and Giant Electric Polarization in Two-Dimension

Here, we have identified the monolayer phase of Bi2O2Se as a promising two-dimensional semiconductor with ultra-high carrier mobility and giant electric polarization. Due to the strong reconstruction originated from the interlayer electrostatic force, we have applied structure prediction algorithms to explore the crystalline geometry of Bi2O2Se monolayer with the lowest total energy. Considering Se and Te belong to the same group, Bi2O2Te monolayer is also investigated based on a similar scheme. Further calculations suggest that the high carrier mobility is maintained in the monolayer phase and the moderate band gap will lead to the strong optical absorption in the visible light region. In particular, the electron mobility in Bi2O2Te can reach as high as 3610 cm2V-1s-1 at room temperature, which is almost ten times of conventional transition metal dichalcogenides (TMD) family. Because of the strong structural anisotropy, a remarkable spontaneous in-plane and out-of-plane electric polarization is additionally revealed along with significant piezoelectric properties, endowing them as promising candidates in the area of photovoltaic solar cells, optoelectronic materials and field effect transistors.
