Phase-matched locally chiral light for global control of chiral light-matter interaction

Locally chiral light is an emerging tool for probing and controlling molecular chirality. It can generate large and freely adjustable enantioselectivities in purely electric-dipole effects, offering its major advantages over traditional chiral light. However, the existing types of locally chiral light are phase-mismatched, and thus the global efficiencies are greatly reduced compared with the maximum single-point efficiencies or even vanish. Here, we propose a scheme to generate phase-matched locally chiral light. To confirm this advantage, we numerically show the robust highly efficient global control of enantiospecific electronic state transfer of methyloxirane at nanoseconds. Our work potentially constitutes the starting point for developing more efficient chiroptical techniques for the studies of chiral molecules.

Super-compact universal quantum logic gates with inversedesigned elements

Integrated quantum photonic circuit is a promising platform for the realization of quantum information processing in the future. To achieve the largescale quantum photonic circuits, the applied quantum logic gates should be as small as possible for the high-density integration on chips. Here, we report the implementation of super-compact universal quantum logic gates on silicon chips by the method of inverse design. In particular, the fabricated controlled-NOT gate and Hadamard gate are both nearly a vacuum wavelength, being the smallest optical quantum gates reported up to now. We further design the quantum circuit by cascading these fundamental gates to perform arbitrary quantum processing, where the corresponding size is about several orders smaller than that of previous quantum photonic circuits. Our study paves the way for the realization of largescale quantum photonic chips with integrated sources, and can possess important applications in the field of quantum information processes.

Experimental topological quantum computing with electric circuits

The key obstacle to the realization of a scalable quantum computer is overcoming environmental and control errors. Topological quantum computation has attracted great attention because it has emerged as one of the most promising approaches to solving these problems. Various theoretical schemes for building topological quantum computation have been proposed. However, experimental implementation has always been a great challenge because it has proved to be extremely difficult to create and manipulate topological qubits in real systems. Therefore, topological quantum computation has not been realized in experiments yet. Here, we report the first experimental realization of topological quantum computation with electric circuits. Based on our proposed new scheme with circuits, Majorana-like edge states are not only observed experimentally, but also T junctions are constructed for the braiding process. Furthermore, we demonstrate the feasibility of topological quantum computing through a set of one- and two-qubit unitary operations. Finally, our implementation of Grover's search algorithm demonstrates that topological quantum computation is ideally suited for such tasks.

The thermodynamics of isolated horizons in loop quantum gravity

The statistical mechanical calculation of the thermodynamical properties of non-rotating isolated horizons are studied in the loop quantum gravity framework. By employing the Hawking temperature and horizon mass of isolated horizons as physical inputs, the microcanonical ensemble associated with the system are well established. As a result, the black hole entropy and other thermodynamical quantities can be computed and consistent with well-known Hawking's semiclassical analysis. Moreover, the value of the Immirzi parameter of loop quantum gravity for {higher dimensional case and 4-dimensional U(1) case are} also obtained.

Loop quantum black hole

In the last decades, progress on the quantization of black holes using techniques developed in loop quantum cosmology has received increasing attention. Due to the quantum geometry effect, the resulting quantum corrected black hole is free of singularity. The quantization scheme can be roughly divided into four types, that is 1. $μ_0$-scheme, 2. $\barμ$-scheme, 3. generalized $μ_0$-scheme, 4. quantum collapsing model. This paper provides an introduction of the loop quantum black hole models and a summary of the progress made in this field, as well as the quantum effective dynamics and physical applications of these models.

Experimental observation of exceptional bound states in a classical circuit network

Exceptional bound (EB) states represent an unique new class of robust bound states protected by the defectiveness of non-Hermitian exceptional points. Conceptually distinct from the more well-known topological states and non-Hermitian skin states, they were recently discovered as a novel source of negative entanglement entropy in the quantum entanglement context. Yet, EB states have been physically elusive, being originally interpreted as negative probability eigenstates of the propagator of non-Hermitian Fermi gases. In this work, we show that EB states are in fact far more ubiquitous, also arising robustly in broad classes of systems whether classical or quantum. This hinges crucially on a newly-discovered spectral flow that rigorously justifies the EB nature of small candidate lattice systems. As a highlight, we present their first experimental realization through an electrical circuit, where they manifest as prominent stable resonant voltage profiles. Our work brings a hitherto elusive but fundamentally distinctive quantum phenomenon into the realm of classical metamaterials, and provides a novel pathway for the engineering of robust modes in otherwise sensitive systems.

Gauss-Bonnet solution with a cloud of strings in de Sitter and anti-de Sitter space

In this paper, we present exact spherically symmetric Gauss-Bonnet black hole solutions surrounded by a cloud of strings fluid with cosmological constant in $D>4$ dimensions. Both charged and uncharged cases are considered. We focus on the de Sitter solutions in the main text and leave the Anti-de Sitter solutions in the appendix. We analyze the features of thermodynamic properties of the black hole solutions. The mass, Hawking temperature as well as thermal stability and the phase transitions are discussed. Moreover, the equation of state and critical phenomena associated with these solutions are also explored.

Efficient verification of arbitrary entangled states with homogeneous local measurements

Quantum state verification (QSV) is the task of relying on local measurements only to verify that a given quantum device does produce the desired target state. Up to now, certain types of entangled states can be verified efficiently or even optimally by QSV. However, given an arbitrary entangled state, how to design its verification protocol remains an open problem. In this work, we present a systematic strategy to tackle this problem by considering the locality of what we initiate as the choice-independent measurement protocols, whose operators can be directly achieved when they are homogeneous. Taking several typical entangled states as examples, we show the explicit procedures of the protocol design using standard Pauli projections, demonstrating the superiority of our method for attaining better QSV strategies. Moreover, our framework can be naturally extended to other tasks such as the construction of entanglement witness, and even parameter estimation.

Stability Improvement of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Gyroscope with Self-Calibrating Parametric Magnetometer

In this paper, we study the stability of nuclear magnetic resonance gyroscope (NMRG), which employs Xe nuclear spins to measure inertial rotation rate. The Xe spin polarization is sensed by an in-situ Rb-magnetometer. The Rb-magnetometer works in a parametric oscillation mode (henceforth referred to as the Rb parametric magnetometer, or Rb-PM), in which the Larmor frequency of the Rb spins is modulated and the transverse components of Xe nuclear spin polarization are measured. As the measurement output of the Rb-PM, the phase of the Xe nuclear spin precession is eventually converted to the Xe nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) frequencies and the inertial rotation rate. Here we provide a comprehensive study of the NMR phase measured by the Rb-PM, and analyze the influence of various control parameters, including the DC magnetic field, the frequency and phase of the modulation field, and the Rb resonance linewidth, on the stability of the NMR phase. Based on these analysis, we propose and implement a self-calibrating method to compensate the NMR phase drift during the Rb-PM measurement. With the self-calibrating Rb-PM, we demonstrate a significant improvement of the bias stability of NMRG.

Experimental realization of topologically-protected all-optical logic gates based on silicon photonic crystal slabs

Topological photonics has been developed for more than ten years. It has been proved that the combination of topology and photons is very beneficial to the design of robust optical devices against some disturbances. However, most of the work for robust optical logic devices stays at the theoretical level. There are very few topologically-protected logic devices fabricated in experiments. Here, we report the experimental fabrication of a series of topologically-protected all-optical logic gates. Seven topologically-protected all-optical logic gates (OR, XOR, NOT, XNOR, NAND, NOR, and AND) are fabricated on silicon photonic platforms, which show strong robustness even if some disorders exist. These robust logic devices are potentially applicable in future optical signal processing and computing.

Topological Holography and Storage with Optical Knots and Links

After more than 70 years of development, holography has become an essential tool of modern optics in many applications. In fact, for various applications of different kinds of holographic techniques, stability and antijamming ability are very important. Here, optical topological structures are introduced into holographic technology, and an entirely new concept of optical topological holography is demonstrated to solve stability and antijamming problems. Based on the optical knots and links, the topological holography is not only developed in theory, but also demonstrated experimentally. In addition, a new topological holographic coding is established by regarding each knotted/linked topological structure as an information carrier. Due to the variety of knotted and linked structures and their characteristics of topological protection, such coding can have high capacity as well as robust properties. Furthermore, with writing the hologram into the liquid crystal, robust information storage of 3D topological holography is realized.

Non-Abelian inverse Anderson transitions

Inverse Anderson transitions, where the flat-band localization is destroyed by disorder, have been wildly investigated in quantum and classical systems in the presence of Abelian gauge fields. Here, we report the first investigation on inverse Anderson transitions in the system with non-Abelian gauge fields. It is found that pseudospin-dependent localized and delocalized eigenstates coexist in the disordered non-Abelian Aharonov-Bohm cage, making inverse Anderson transitions depend on the relative phase of two internal pseudospins. Such an exotic phenomenon induced by the interplay between non-Abelian gauge fields and disorder has no Abelian analogy. Furthermore, we theoretically design and experimentally fabricate nonAbelian Aharonov-Bohm topolectrical circuits to observe the non-Abelian inverse Anderson transition. Through the direct measurements of frequency-dependent impedance responses and voltage dynamics, the pseudospin-dependent non-Abelian inverse Anderson transitions are observed. Our results establish the connection between inverse Anderson transitions and non-Abelian gauge fields, and thus comprise a new insight on the fundamental aspects of localization in disordered non-Abelian flat-band systems.

Quasinormal modes of the Bardeen black hole with a cloud of strings

We investigate the quasinormal mode and greybody factor of Bardeen black holes with a string clouds by WKB approximation and verify them by Prony algorithm. We found that the imaginary part of the quasinormal modes spectra is always negative and the perturbation does not increase with the time, indicating that the system is stable under scalar field perturbation. Moreover, the string parameter $a$ has a dramatically impact on the frequency and decay rate of the waveforms. In addition, the greybody factor becomes larger when $a$ and $λ$ increase while $q$ and $l$ decreases. The parameter $λ$ and $l$ have a big effect on the tails. Especially, when $l=0$, a de Sitter phase appears at the tail.

Non-Hermitian topolectrical circuit sensor with high sensitivity

Electronic sensors play important roles in various applications, such as industry and environmental monitoring, biomedical sample ingredient analysis, wireless networks and so on. However, the sensitivity and robustness of current schemes are often limited by the low quality-factors of resonators and fabrication disorders. Hence, exploring new mechanisms of the electronic sensor with a high-level sensitivity and a strong robustness is of great significance. Here, we propose a new way to design electronic sensors with superior performances based on exotic properties of non-Hermitian topological physics. Owing to the extreme boundary-sensitivity of non-Hermitian topological zero modes, the frequency shift induced by boundary perturbations can show an exponential growth trend with respect to the size of non-Hermitian topolectrical circuit sensors. Moreover, such an exponential growth sensitivity is also robust against disorders of circuit elements. Using designed non-Hermitian topolectrical circuit sensors, we further experimentally verify the ultra-sensitive identification of the distance, rotation angle, and liquid level with the designed capacitive devices. Our proposed non-Hermitian topolectrical circuit sensors can possess a wide range of applications in ultra-sensitive environmental monitoring and show an exciting prospect for nextgeneration sensing technologies.

Topological classes of black holes in de-Sitter spacetime

In this paper, we investigate the topological number of de-Sitter black hole solutions with different charges $(q)$ and rotational $(a)$ parameters. By using generalized free energy and Duan's $ϕ$-mapping topological current theory, we find that the topological numbers of black holes can still be classified as three types. In addition, we interestingly found the topological classes for de-Sitter $($dS$)$ spacetime with distinct horizon, i.e, black hole event horizon and cosmological horizon, will be different. Moreover, we also investigate topological classifications of dS black hole solutions in higher dimensions with or without Gauss-Bonnet term.

Hyperbolic band topology with non-trivial second Chern numbers

Topological band theory establishes a standardized framework for classifying different types of topological matters. Recent investigations have shown that hyperbolic lattices in non-Euclidean space can also be characterized by hyperbolic Bloch theorem. This theory promotes the investigation of hyperbolic band topology, where hyperbolic topological band insulators protected by first Chern numbers have been proposed. Here, we report a new finding on the construction of hyperbolic topological band insulators with a vanished first Chern number but a non-trivial second Chern number. Our model possesses the non-abelian translational symmetry of {8,8} hyperbolic tiling. By engineering intercell couplings and onsite potentials of sublattices in each unit cell, the non-trivial bandgaps with quantized second Chern numbers can appear. In experiments, we fabricate two types of finite hyperbolic circuit networks with periodic boundary conditions and partially open boundary conditions to detect hyperbolic topological band insulators. Our work suggests a new way to engineer hyperbolic topological states with higher-order topological invariants.

Topological classes of BTZ black holes

In the recent paper [Phys. Rev. Lett. 129, 191101 (2022)], the black holes were viewed as topological thermodynamic defects by using the generalized off-shell free energy. Their work indicates that all black hole solutions in the pure Einstein-Maxwell gravity theory could be classified into three different topological classes for four and higher spacetime dimensions. In this paper, we investigate the topological number of BTZ black holes with different charges $(Q)$ and rotational $(J)$ parameters. By using generalized free energy and Duan's $ϕ$-mapping topological current theory, we interestingly found only two topological classes for BTZ spacetime. Particularly, for $Q=J=0$ BTZ black hole, there has only one zero point and therefore the total topological number is 1. While for rotating or charged cases, there are always two zero points and the global topological number is zero.

Alternative $k=-1$ loop quantum cosmology

An alternative quantization of the gravitational Hamiltonian constraint of the $k=-1$ Friedmann-Robertson-Walker model is proposed by treating the Euclidean term and the Lorentzian term independently, mimicking the treatment of full loop quantum gravity. The resulting Hamiltonian constraint operator for the $k=-1$ model with a massless scalar field is successfully constructed, and is shown to have the corrected classical limit. Compared to the former quantization schemes in the literature where only the Euclidean term is quantized, the new quantum dynamics of the $k=-1$ model with a massless scalar field indicates that the classical big-bang singularity is replaced by an asymmetric quantum bounce.
