Matched Filtering-Based Channel Estimation for AFDM Systems in Doubly Selective Channels

Affine frequency division multiplexing (AFDM) has recently emerged as an excellent backward-compatible 6G waveform. In this paper, we study matched filtering (MF) assisted channel estimation (CE) for AFDM systems in complex doubly selective channels. By deriving the complete input-output relationship of the continuous-time signal, the inter-chirp-carrier interference, signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR), and the effective SINR loss of AFDM, are investigated in discrete affine Fourier transform (DAFT) domain. Further, we propose two low-complexity methods for constructing the channel matrix by taking advantage of its inherent discrete Fourier transform structure and the staircase structure of the piecewise functions in the channel matrix, respectively. It is shown that complexity reduction by at least two orders of magnitude can be achieved for a large number of chirp subcarriers. For the CE problem in doubly selective channels, we introduce an MF assisted CE scheme. This allows us to sequentially estimate the parameters of each path by exploiting the separability and approximate orthogonality of different paths in the DAFT domain, thus leading to significantly reduced complexity. Furthermore, based on generalized Fibonacci search (GFS), an MF-GFS scheme is proposed to avoid significantly redundant computation, which can be extended to typical wide-band systems. Extensive simulation results indicate that the proposed schemes offer superior advantages in terms of their improved communication performance and lower complexity.

High Quality Single Crystal of Kitaev Spin Liquid Candidate Material RuBr3 Synthesized under High Pressure

Kitaev quantum spin liquids have attracted significant attention in condensed matter physics over the past decade. To understand their emergent quantum phenomena, high-quality single crystals of substantial size are essential. Here, we report the synthesis of single crystals of the Kitaev quantum spin liquid candidate RuBr3, achieving millimeter-sized crystals through a self-flux method under high pressure and high temperature conditions. The crystals exhibit well-defined cleavage planes with a lustrous appearance. Transport characterizations exhibit a narrow band-gap semiconducting behavior with 0.13 eV and 0.11 eV band-gap in ab plane and along c axis, respectively. Magnetic measurement shows a transition to antiferromagnetic (AFM) state at approximately 29 K both in ab plane and along c axis. Notably, the N\'eel temperature increases to 34 K with an applied magnetic field of up to 7 T in the ab plane, but without any change along c axis. The large size and high quality of RuBr3 single crystals provide a valuable platform for investigating various interactions, particularly the Kitaev interaction, and for elucidating the intrinsic physical properties of Kitaev quantum spin liquids.

Zak-Transform-Induced Optimal Sequences and Their Applications in OTFS

This paper introduces a novel finite Zak transform (FZT)-aided framework for constructing multiple zero-correlation zone (ZCZ) sequence sets with optimal correlation properties. Specifically, each sequence is perfect with zero auto-correlation sidelobes, each ZCZ sequence set meets the Tang-Fan-Matsufuji bound with equality, and the maximum inter-set cross-correlation of multiple sequence sets meets the Sarwate bound with equality. Our study shows that these sequences can be sparsely expressed in the Zak domain through properly selected index and phase matrices. Particularly, it is found that the maximum inter-set cross-correlation beats the Sarwate bound if every index matrix is a circular Florentine array. Several construction methods of multiple ZCZ sequence sets are proposed, demonstrating both the optimality and high flexibility. {Additionally, it is shown that excellent synchronization performance can be achieved by the proposed sequences in orthogonal-time-frequency-space (OTFS) systems.

Grid Evolution for Doubly Fractional Channel Estimation in OTFS Systems

In orthogonal time-frequency space communications, the performances of existing on-grid and off-grid channel estimation (CE) schemes are determined by the delay-Doppler (DD) grid density. In practice, multiple real-life DD channel responses might be co-located within a same DD grid interval, leading to performance degradation. A finer grid interval is needed to distinguish these responses, but this could result in a significantly higher CE complexity when traditional methods are used.To address this issue, a grid evolution method for doubly fractional CE is proposed by evolving the initially uniform coarse DD grid into a non-uniform dense grid. Simulation results show that our proposed method leads to improved computational efficiency, and achieves a good trade-off between CE performance and complexity.

The optimal partition for multiparametric semialgebraic optimization

In this paper we investigate the optimal partition approach for multiparametric conic linear optimization (mpCLO) problems in which the objective function depends linearly on vectors. We first establish more useful properties of the set-valued mappings early given by us (arXiv:2006.08104) for mpCLOs, including continuity, monotonicity and semialgebraic property. These properties characterize the notions of so-called linearity and nonlinearity subsets of a feasible set, which serve as stability regions of the partition of a conic (linear inequality) representable set. We then use the arguments from algebraic geometry to show that a semialgebraic conic representable set can be decomposed into a union of finite linearity and/or nonlinearity subsets. As an application, we investigate the boundary structure of the feasible set of generic semialgebraic mpCLOs and obtain several nice structural results in this direction, especially for the spectrahedon.

Multiparametric analysis of conic linear optimization based on the lift-and-project procedure

We study how the lift-and-project procedure applies to the multiparametric analysis of conic linear optimization (CLO) problems. We first introduce the concept of a pair of primal and dual conic representable sets and define the set-valued mappings between them. We then explore a novel kind of duality of mpCLOs, which allows us to generalize as well as treat previous results for the mulitparametric analysis in a unified framework. In particular, we discuss the behavior of the optimal partition of a conic representable set. This leads to the invariant region decomposition of a conic representable set that is more general than the known results in the literatures. Finally, we study the properties of the optimal objective values as a function of that parametric vectors. All results are corroborated by examples having correlation.
