Topological extension including quantum jump

Non-Hermitian systems and the Lindblad form master equation have always been regarded as reliable tools in dissipative modeling. Intriguingly, existing literature often obtains an equivalent non-Hermitian Hamiltonian by neglecting the quantum jumping terms in the master equation. However, there lacks investigation into the effects of discarded terms as well as the unified connection between these two approaches. In this study, we study the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model with collective loss and gain from a topological perspective. When the system undergoes no quantum jump events, the corresponding shape matrix exhibits the same topological properties in contrast to the traditional non-Hermitian theory. Conversely, the occurrence of quantum jumps can result in a shift in the positions of the phase transition. Our study provides a qualitative analysis of the impact of quantum jumping terms and reveals their unique role in quantum systems.

Effect of quantum jumps on non-Hermitian system

One among the possible realizations of non-Hermitian systems is based on open quantum systems by omitting quantum jumping terms in the master equation. This is a good approximation at short times where the effects of quantum jumps can be ignored. However, the jumps can affect the long time dynamics of the system, motivating us to take the jumps into account in these studies. In this paper, by treating the quantum jumps as perturbations, we examine the effect of the quantum jumps on the non-Hermitian system. For this purpose, we first derive an effective Hamiltonian to describe the dynamics of the open quantum system based on the master equation, then expand the eigenstates and eigenenergies up to the first and second order in the quantum jumps. Finally, we apply our theory to a dissipative two-level system and dissipative fermionic superfluids. The effect of quantum jump on the dynamics and the nonequilibrium phase transition is demonstrated and discussed.

Latent Group Structured Multi-task Learning

In multi-task learning (MTL), we improve the performance of key machine learning algorithms by training various tasks jointly. When the number of tasks is large, modeling task structure can further refine the task relationship model. For example, often tasks can be grouped based on metadata, or via simple preprocessing steps like K-means. In this paper, we present our group structured latent-space multi-task learning model, which encourages group structured tasks defined by prior information. We use an alternating minimization method to learn the model parameters. Experiments are conducted on both synthetic and real-world datasets, showing competitive performance over single-task learning (where each group is trained separately) and other MTL baselines.

A Practical Searchable Symmetric Encryption Scheme for Smart Grid Data

Outsourcing data storage to the remote cloud can be an economical solution to enhance data management in the smart grid ecosystem. To protect the privacy of data, the utility company may choose to encrypt the data before uploading them to the cloud. However, while encryption provides confidentiality to data, it also sacrifices the data owners' ability to query a special segment in their data. Searchable symmetric encryption is a technology that enables users to store documents in ciphertext form while keeping the functionality to search keywords in the documents. However, most state-of-the-art SSE algorithms are only focusing on general document storage, which may become unsuitable for smart grid applications. In this paper, we propose a simple, practical SSE scheme that aims to protect the privacy of data generated in the smart grid. Our scheme achieves high space complexity with small information disclosure that was acceptable for practical smart grid application. We also implement a prototype over the statistical data of advanced meter infrastructure to show the effectiveness of our approach.
