The Devil is in the Details: Boosting Guided Depth Super-Resolution via Rethinking Cross-Modal Alignment and Aggregation

Guided depth super-resolution (GDSR) involves restoring missing depth details using the high-resolution RGB image of the same scene. Previous approaches have struggled with the heterogeneity and complementarity of the multi-modal inputs, and neglected the issues of modal misalignment, geometrical misalignment, and feature selection. In this study, we rethink some essential components in GDSR networks and propose a simple yet effective Dynamic Dual Alignment and Aggregation network (D2A2). D2A2 mainly consists of 1) a dynamic dual alignment module that adapts to alleviate the modal misalignment via a learnable domain alignment block and geometrically align cross-modal features by learning the offset; and 2) a mask-to-pixel feature aggregate module that uses the gated mechanism and pixel attention to filter out irrelevant texture noise from RGB features and combine the useful features with depth features. By combining the strengths of RGB and depth features while minimizing disturbance introduced by the RGB image, our method with simple reuse and redesign of basic components achieves state-of-the-art performance on multiple benchmark datasets. The code is available at https://github.com/JiangXinni/D2A2.

Air-to-Ground Communications Beyond 5G: UAV Swarm Formation Control and Tracking

Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) communications have been widely accepted as promising technologies to support air-to-ground communications in the forthcoming sixth-generation (6G) wireless networks. This paper proposes a novel air-to-ground communication model consisting of aerial base stations served by UAVs and terrestrial user equipments (UEs) by integrating the technique of coordinated multi-point (CoMP) transmission with the theory of stochastic geometry. In particular, a CoMP set consisting of multiple UAVs is developed based on the theory of Poisson-Delaunay tetrahedralization. Effective UAV formation control and UAV swarm tracking schemes for two typical scenarios, including static and mobile UEs, are also developed using the multi-agent system theory to ensure that collaborative UAVs can efficiently reach target spatial positions for mission execution. Thanks to the ease of mathematical tractability, this model provides explicit performance expressions for a typical UE's coverage probability and achievable ergodic rate. Extensive simulation and numerical results corroborate that the proposed scheme outperforms UAV communications without CoMP transmission and obtains similar performance to the conventional CoMP scheme while avoiding search overhead.

Core Collapse Supernova Explosions in Active Galactic Nucleus Accretion Disks

Astrophysical events that occur in active galactic nucleus (AGN) disks are believed to differ significantly from the ordinary in the interstellar medium. We show that stars located in the outer region of the AGN disk would explode near the original migration starting points instead of being accreted by the central supermassive black hole due to the effect of viscosity. AGN disks provide a dense environment for supernova (SN) explosions, which inevitably involve ejecta-disk interactions. In this paper, we investigate the light curves (LCs) of core-collapse SN exploded in AGN disks. In addition to the fundamental energy source of $^{56} \mathrm{Ni}$--$^{56} \mathrm{Co}$--$^{56} \mathrm{Fe}$ decay reaction powering the SN LCs, the forward-reverse shock produced during interactions may contribute significantly to the observed flux. If the stellar winds manage to create a cavity surrounded by a shell near the star before the SN explosion, the ejecta-winds-disk configurations are expected. We present various SN LCs from different types of progenitors and find that the SN LCs are dominated by the radiation of ejecta-disk interaction-induced shocks. The resulting SNe in the AGN disk is a promising transient source for UV and optical band detection by the Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory (Swift), the Ultraviolet Explorer (UVEX) and wide field survey telescopes such as Ultraviolet Transient Astronomy Satellite (ULTRASAT), Wide Field Survey Telescope (WFST) and Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) at the Vera C. Rubin Observatory. These detections could aid in the investigation of AGN discs and the associated high-energy transient occurrences.

In-situ star formation in accretion disk and explanation for correlation between black hole mass and metallicity in AGNs

Recent observations show that the metallicity of the broad line region ($Z_{\rm BLR}$) in active galactic nuclei (AGNs) is solar-to-supersolar, which is positively correlated with the mass of supermassive black holes ($M_{\rm BH}$) and does not evolve with redshift up to $z \sim 7$. We revisit the $M_{\rm BH}-Z_{\rm BLR}$ correlation with more AGNs with $M_{\rm BH}\sim 10^{6-8} M_{\odot}$ and find that the positive correlation become flat in low-mass range. It is known that outer part of accretion disks is gravitationally unstable and can fragment into stars. Considering the star formation and supernovae (SNe) in the outer AGN disk, we calculate the metal enrichment and find that positive $M_{\rm BH}-Z_{\rm BLR}$ correlation can be roughly reproduced if the stellar mass distribution is ``top-heavy". We find that the observed BLR size is more or less similar to the self-gravity radius of the AGN disk, which suggests that the BLR may be closely correlated with the underlying accretion process.

SearchMorph:Multi-scale Correlation Iterative Network for Deformable Registration

Deformable image registration can obtain dynamic information about images, which is of great significance in medical image analysis. The unsupervised deep learning registration method can quickly achieve high registration accuracy without labels. However, these methods generally suffer from uncorrelated features, poor ability to register large deformations and details, and unnatural deformation fields. To address the issues above, we propose an unsupervised multi-scale correlation iterative registration network (SearchMorph). In the proposed network, we introduce a correlation layer to strengthen the relevance between features and construct a correlation pyramid to provide multi-scale relevance information for the network. We also design a deformation field iterator, which improves the ability of the model to register details and large deformations through the search module and GRU while ensuring that the deformation field is realistic. We use single-temporal brain MR images and multi-temporal echocardiographic sequences to evaluate the model's ability to register large deformations and details. The experimental results demonstrate that the method in this paper achieves the highest registration accuracy and the lowest folding point ratio using a short elapsed time to state-of-the-art.

Flow-Sensory Contact Electrification of Graphene

All-electronic interrogation of biofluid flow velocity by sensors incorporated in ultra-low-power or self-sustained systems offers the promise of enabling multifarious emerging research and applications. Electrical sensors based on nanomaterials are of high spatiotemporal resolution and exceptional sensitivity to external flow stimulus and easily integrated and fabricated using scalable techniques. But existing nano-based electrical flow-sensing technologies remain lacking in precision and stability and are typically only applicable to simple aqueous solutions or liquid/gas dual-phase mixtures, making them unsuitable for monitoring low-flow (~micrometer/second) yet important characteristics of continuous biofluids (e.g., hemorheological behaviors in microcirculation). Here we show that monolayer-graphene single microelectrodes harvesting charge from continuous aqueous flow provide an ideal flow sensing strategy: Our devices deliver over six months stability and sub-micrometer/second resolution in real-time quantification of whole-blood flows with multiscale amplitude-temporal characteristics in a microfluidic chip. The flow transduction is enabled by low-noise charge transfer at graphene/water interface in response to flow-sensitive rearrangement of the interfacial electrical double layer. Our results demonstrate the feasibility of using a graphene-based self-powered strategy for monitoring biofluid flow velocity with key performance metrics orders of magnitude higher than other electrical approaches.

Crystal structures and the sign reversal Hall resistivity in iron-based superconductors Lix(C3H10N2)0.32FeSe (0.15<x<0.4)

We report the crystal structure, superconductivity and normal state properties of two iron-based materials, Li0.15(C3H10N2)0.32FeSe(P-4) and Lix(C3H10N2)0.32FeSe(P4/nmm, 0.25<x<0.4) with superconducting transition temperature from 40~46K. The determined crystal structures revealed a coupling between Li concentration and the oritation of 1,2-Diaminopropane molecules within the hyper expanded FeSe layers. Further fitting on resistivity in terms of the Lawence-Doniach model suggests the two superconductors belong to the quasi-two dimonsional system. With increasing temperature, a differences in crystal structures and doping levels. First principle calculations revealed the increase in FeSe layer diatance will restruct the Fermi surface and generate a new hole pocket around Gamma point in the Brillouin Zone. Our findings support that the increase in two dimensionalities will leads to a temperature induced Lifshitz transition in electron doped FeSe superconductors.

Quantum linear magnetoresistance in NbTe2

NbTe2 crystal is quasi-2D layered semimetal with charge density wave ground state showing a distorted-1T structure at room temperature. Here we report the anisotropic magneto-transport properties of NbTe2. An anomalous linear magnetoresistance up to 30% at 3 K in 9 T was observed, which can be well explained by quantum linear magnetoresistance model. Our results reveal that a large quasi-2D Fermi surface and small Fermi pockets with linearly dispersive bands coexist in NbTe2. The comparison with the isostructural material TaTe2 provides more information about the electronic structure evolution with charge density wave transitions in NbTe2 and TaTe2.

Two new parent compounds for FeSe-based superconducting phases

It is well established that the occurrence of superconductivity in iron pnictides is closely related to the tetragonal to orthorhombic structural and antiferromagnetic (AFM) phase transitions. It, however, has not been clear whether the same scenario is appropriate for iron chalcogenide counterparts due to the absence of parent compounds for the latter family of superconductors. Here, we report the synthesis and structure determination of two novel phases in ethylenediamine intercalated FeSe, one is tetragonal and the other orthorhombic in room temperature, which can be stabilized with neutral spacer layers. Both phases can be regarded as the parent compounds for superconductivity as they are non-superconducting (non-SC) in pristine form and superconducting (SC) with Tc up to 38K and 46K, respectively after Na doping, and the switch between SC and no-SC is reversible. Moreover, the two non-SC parent compounds show no evidence of long-range magnetic ordering down to 2K, only with dynamic spin fluctuations at low temperatures, suggesting that no competition between SC and AFM ordering. Our results reveal that undoped iron selenides are quantum paramagnetic in ground state, implying that they are distinct from their pnictide counterparts in pairing mechanism.

Adleman-Manders-Miller Root Extraction Method Revisited

In 1977, Adleman, Manders and Miller had briefly described how to extend their square root extraction method to the general $r$th root extraction over finite fields, but not shown enough details. Actually, there is a dramatic difference between the square root extraction and the general $r$th root extraction because one has to solve discrete logarithms for $r$th root extraction. In this paper, we clarify their method and analyze its complexity. Our heuristic presentation is helpful to grasp the method entirely and deeply.

Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) is an efficient algorithm to compute the Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) and its inverse. In this paper, we pay special attention to the description of complex-data FFT. We analyze two common descriptions of FFT and propose a new presentation. Our heuristic description is helpful for students and programmers to grasp the algorithm entirely and deeply.

Improvement Of Barreto-Voloch Algorithm For Computing $r$th Roots Over Finite Fields

Root extraction is a classical problem in computers algebra. It plays an essential role in cryptosystems based on elliptic curves. In 2006, Barreto and Voloch proposed an algorithm to compute $r$th roots in ${F}_{q^m} $ for certain choices of $m$ and $q$. If $r\,||\,q-1$ and $ (m, r)=1, $ they proved that the complexity of their method is $\widetilde{\mathcal {O}}(r(\log m+\log\log q)m\log q) $. In this paper, we extend the Barreto-Voloch algorithm to the general case that $r\,||\,q^m-1$, without the restrictions $r\,||\,q-1$ and $(m, r)=1 $. We also specify the conditions that the Barreto-Voloch algorithm can be preferably applied.
