Quantum geometry quadrupole-induced third-order nonlinear transport in antiferromagnetic topological insulator MnBi2Te4

The study of quantum geometry effects in materials has been one of the most important research directions in recent decades. The quantum geometry of a material is characterized by the quantum geometry tensor of the Bloch states. The imaginary part of the quantum geometry tensor gives rise to the Berry curvature while the real part gives rise to the quantum metric. While Berry curvature has been well studied in the past decades, the experimental investigation on the quantum metric effects is only at its infancy stage. In this work, we measure the nonlinear transport of bulk MnBi${_2}$Te${_4}$, which is a topological anti-ferromagnet. We found that the second order nonlinear responses are negligible as required by inversion symmetry, the third-order nonlinear responses are finite. The measured third-harmonic longitudinal ($V_{xx}^{3ω}$) and transverse ($V_{xy}^{3ω}$) voltages with frequency 3w, driven by an a.c. current with frequency w, show an intimate connection with magnetic transitions of MnBi${_2}$Te${_4}$ flakes. Their magnitudes change abruptly as MnBi${_2}$Te${_4}$ flakes go through magnetic transitions from an AFM state to a canted AFM state and to a FM state. In addition, the measured $V_{xx}^{3ω}$ is an even function of the applied magnetic field B while $V_{xy}^{3ω}$ is odd in B. Amazingly, the field dependence of the third-order responses as a function of the magnetic field suggests that $V_{xx}^{3ω}$ is induced by quantum metric quadrupole and $V_{xy}^{3ω}$ is induced by Berry curvature quadrupole. Therefore, the quadrupoles of both the real and the imaginary part of the quantum geometry tensor of bulk MnBi${_2}$Te${_4}$ are revealed through the third order nonlinear transport measurements. This work greatly advanced our understanding on the connections between the higher order moments of quantum geometry and nonlinear transport.

Large-Scale 3D Semantic Reconstruction for Automated Driving Vehicles with Adaptive Truncated Signed Distance Function

The Large-scale 3D reconstruction, texturing and semantic mapping are nowadays widely used for automated driving vehicles, virtual reality and automatic data generation. However, most approaches are developed for RGB-D cameras with colored dense point clouds and not suitable for large-scale outdoor environments using sparse LiDAR point clouds. Since a 3D surface can be usually observed from multiple camera images with different view poses, an optimal image patch selection for the texturing and an optimal semantic class estimation for the semantic mapping are still challenging. To address these problems, we propose a novel 3D reconstruction, texturing and semantic mapping system using LiDAR and camera sensors. An Adaptive Truncated Signed Distance Function is introduced to describe surfaces implicitly, which can deal with different LiDAR point sparsities and improve model quality. The from this implicit function extracted triangle mesh map is then textured from a series of registered camera images by applying an optimal image patch selection strategy. Besides that, a Markov Random Field-based data fusion approach is proposed to estimate the optimal semantic class for each triangle mesh. Our approach is evaluated on a synthetic dataset, the KITTI dataset and a dataset recorded with our experimental vehicle. The results show that the 3D models generated using our approach are more accurate in comparison to using other state-of-the-art approaches. The texturing and semantic mapping achieve also very promising results.

Multiple Symmetry-Protected Dirac Nodal Lines in A Quasi-One-Dimensional Semimetal

Nodal-line semimetals (NLSMs) contains Dirac/Weyl type band-crossing nodes extending into shapes of line, loop and chain in the reciprocal space, leading to novel band topology and transport responses. Robust NLSMs against spin-orbit coupling typically occur in three-dimensional materials with more symmetry operations to protect the line nodes of band crossing, while the possibilities in lower-dimensional materials are rarely discussed. Here we demonstrate robust NLSM phase in a quasi-one-dimensional nonmagnetic semimetal TaNiTe5. Combining angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy measurements and first-principles calculations, we reveal how reduced dimension can interact with nonsymmorphic symmetry and result into multiple Dirac-type nodal lines with four-fold degeneracy. Our findings suggest rich physics and application in (quasi-)one-dimensional topological materials and call for further investigation on the interplay between the quantum confinement and nontrivial band topology.

Dynamic Pricing and Learning with Competition: Insights from the Dynamic Pricing Challenge at the 2017 INFORMS RM & Pricing Conference

This paper presents the results of the Dynamic Pricing Challenge, held on the occasion of the 17th INFORMS Revenue Management and Pricing Section Conference on June 29-30, 2017 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. For this challenge, participants submitted algorithms for pricing and demand learning of which the numerical performance was analyzed in simulated market environments. This allows consideration of market dynamics that are not analytically tractable or can not be empirically analyzed due to practical complications. Our findings implicate that the relative performance of algorithms varies substantially across different market dynamics, which confirms the intrinsic complexity of pricing and learning in the presence of competition.
