Scalar Hairy Black Holes with Inverted Mexican Hat Potential

We numerically construct the asymptotically flat solutions of hairy black holes supported by a symmetric inverted Mexican hat potential with a local minimum and two degenerate global maxima of a real scalar field that contains a quartic self-interaction term. The solutions of hairy black holes emerge from the Schwarzschild black hole when the non-trivial scalar field exists outside the event horizon. Therefore, we perform a comprehensive study on the properties of the hairy black holes such as the area of horizon, the Hawking temperature, the innermost stable circular orbit, the photon sphere, etc. We also numerically study their linear stability in the mode analysis, hence finding that they are unstable against the linear perturbation.

Polar modes and isospectrality of Ellis-Bronnikov wormholes

We consider polar perturbations of static Ellis-Bronnikov wormholes and derive the coupled set of perturbation equations for the gravitational and the scalar field. For massless wormholes the perturbations decouple, and we obtain two identical master equations for the scalar and gravitational modes, which moreover agree with the master equation for the axial modes. Consequently there is isospectrality with threefold degenerate modes. For a finite mass of the background wormhole solutions, the equations are coupled. We then obtain two distinct branches of polar quasinormal modes for a given multipole number l, associated with the presence of the two types of fields. We calculate the quasi-normal mode frequencies and decay rates for the branches with l=2, 3 and 4. For a given l the real frequencies of the two branchesget the closer, the higher the multipole number gets.

Properties of Scalar Hairy Black Holes and Scalarons with Asymmetric Potential

In this paper we study the properties of black holes and scalarons in Einstein gravity when it is minimally coupled to a scalar field $ϕ$ with an asymmetric potential $V(ϕ)$, constructed in [Phys. Rev. D \textbf{73} (2006), 084002] a few decades ago. $V(ϕ)$ has been applied in the cosmology to describe the quantum tunneling process from the false vacuum to the true vacuum and contains a local maximum, a local minimum (false vacuum) and a global minimum (true vacuum). In particular we focus on the asymptotically flat solutions, which can be constructed by fixing appropriately the local minimum of $V$. A branch of hairy black holes solutions emerge from the Schwarzschild black hole, and we study the domain of existence of such configurations. They can reach to a particle-like solution in the small horizon limit, i.e. the scalarons. We study the stability of black holes and scalarons, showing that all of them are unstable under radial perturbations.

Non-Abelian Wormholes Threaded by a Yang-Mills-Higgs Field beyond the BPS Limit

We construct numerically the symmetric non-Abelian wormholes which are supported by a phantom field in the Einstein-Yang-Mills-Higgs theory beyond Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield (BPS) limit where the Higgs self-interaction constant $λ$ is non-vanishing. Analogous to the BPS limit, the probe limit is the Yang-Mills-Higgs field in the background of the Ellis wormhole when the gravity is switched off. In the presence of gravity, the wormhole solutions possess the Yang-Mills-Higgs hair where families of hairy wormholes solutions emerge from the Ellis wormhole when the gravitational coupling constant increases. In contrast to the BPS limit, the properties of wormholes change drastically when the gravitational strength approaches a critical value for a fixed $λ$. The hairy wormholes possess two types of double throat configurations. The first type is wormholes that develop the double throat when the gravitational strength almost approaches the critical value for lower $λ$, whereas the second type is wormholes that exhibit the double throat for a certain range of gravitational strength for higher $λ$. These two types of double throat configurations can coexist for a certain range of $λ$ where it is a transition process for first type double throat disappears gradually and the second type double throat becomes dominant.

Traversable Wormhole in Einstein 3-Form Theory With Self-Interacting Potential

We numerically construct a symmetric wormhole solution in pure Einstein gravity supported by a massive $3$-form field with a potential that contains a quartic self-interaction term. The wormhole spacetimes have only a single throat and they are everywhere regular and asymptotically flat. Furthermore, their mass and throat circumference increase almost linearly as the coefficient of the quartic self-interaction term $Λ$ increases. The amount of violation of the null energy condition (NEC) is proportional to the magnitude of $3$-form, thus the NEC is less violated as $Λ$ increases, since the magnitude of $3$-form decreases with $Λ$. In addition, we investigate the geodesics of particles moving around the wormhole. The unstable photon orbit is located at the throat. We also find that the wormhole can cast a shadow whose apparent size is smaller than that cast by the Schwarzschild black hole, but reduces to it when $Λ$ acquires a large value. The behavior of the innermost stable circular orbit around this wormhole is also discussed. The results of this paper hint toward the possibility that the 3-form wormholes could be potential black hole mimickers, as long as $Λ$ is sufficiently large, precisely when NEC is weakly violated.

Regular Black Hole Interior Spacetime Supported by Three-Form Field

In this paper, we show that a minimally coupled 3-form endowed with a proper potential can support a regular black hole interior. By choosing an appropriate form for the metric function representing the radius of the 2-sphere, we solve for the 3-form field and its potential. Using the obtained solution, we construct an interior black hole spacetime which is everywhere regular. The singularity is replaced with a Nariai-type spacetime, whose topology is $\text{dS}_2 \times \text{S}^2$, in which the radius of the 2-sphere is constant. So long as the interior continues to expand indefinitely, the geometry becomes essentially compactified. The 2-dimensional de Sitter geometry appears despite the negative potential of the 3-form field. Such a dynamical compactification could shed some light on the origin of de Sitter geometry of our Universe, exacerbated by the Swampland conjecture. In addition, we show that the spacetime is geodesically complete. The geometry is singularity-free due to the violation of the null energy condition.

Non--Abelian Wormholes Threaded by Yang--Mills--Higgs Field in the BPS Limit

In the Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield (BPS) limit of Einstein-Yang-Mills-Higgs theory, we construct numerically a non-Abelian wormhole supported by a phantom field. The probe limit is the Yang-Mills-Higgs field in the background of Ellis wormhole when the gravity is switched off. The wormhole solutions possess the Yang-Mills-Higgs hair in the presence of gravity; Thus a branch of hairy wormhole solutions emerge from the Ellis wormhole when the gravitational coupling constant increases. We find that the mass of wormholes and scalar charge of phantom field increase monotonically when the gravitational coupling constant increases. The wormhole spacetime possesses double throat configuration when the gravitational strength exceeds a critical value. Surprisingly, the wormholes satisfy the null energy condition in the large gravitational strength. We also briefly discuss the redshift factor.

Ellis Wormholes in Anti-De Sitter Space

We construct traversable wormholes with anti-de Sitter asymptotics supported by a phantom field. These wormholes are massless and symmetric with respect to reflection of the radial coordinate $η\to - η$. Their circumferential radius decreases monotonically from radial infinity to their single throat. Analogous to their asymptotically flat counterparts, these anti-de Sitter wormholes possess an unstable radial mode.

The Interior Volume of Kerr-AdS Black Holes

The interior volume of black holes as defined by Christodoulou and Rovelli exhibits many surprising features. For example, it increases with time, even under Hawking evaporation. For some black holes, the interior volume is not even a monotonic increasing function of its area, which means one cannot infer how large a black hole is by just looking from the outside. Such a notion of volume, however, turns out to be useful in the context of holography, as it seems to be dual to the complexity of the boundary field theory. In this study, we investigate the properties of the interior volume of 4-dimensional Kerr-AdS black holes, fixing either the mass parameter $M$ or the physical mass $E$, whilst varying the values of the cosmological constant. We found that the volume as a function of the radial coordinate features a "double lobe" while fixing $M$, whereas fixing $E$ yields behaviors that are qualitatively similar to the asymptotically flat case. We briefly comment on the holographic complexity of Kerr-AdS black holes.

Euclidean wormholes in Gauss-Bonnet-dilaton gravity

We investigate Euclidean wormholes in Gauss-Bonnet-dilaton gravity to explain the creation of the universe from nothing. We considered two types of dilaton couplings (i.e., the string-inspired model and the Gaussian model) and we obtained qualitatively similar results. There can exist Euclidean wormholes that explain the possible origin of our universe, where the dilaton field is located over the barrier of dilaton potential. This solution can exist even if dilaton potential does not satisfy slow-roll conditions. In addition, the probability is higher than that of the Hawking-Moss instanton with the same final condition. Therefore, Euclidean wormholes in Gauss-Bonnet-dilaton gravity are a possible and probable scenario, which explains the origin of our universe.

Rotating wormhole solutions with a complex phantom scalar field

We consider rotating wormhole solutions supported by a complex phantom scalar field with a quartic self-interaction, where the phantom field induces the rotation of the spacetime. The solutions are regular and asymptotically flat. A subset of solutions describing static but not spherically symmetric wormholes is also obtained.

Scalar and axial quasinormal modes of massive static phantom wormholes

We study the quasinormal modes for scalar, axial and radial perturbations of massive static spherically symmetric wormholes supported by a phantom scalar field, calculating the modes directly and employing the WKB approximation. The spectrum of the quasinormal modes is compared with the spectrum of Schwarzschild black holes. For fixed multipole number $l$ and large mass $M$ the wormhole modes approach their black hole counterparts as $1/M$.

Spinning Wormholes in Scalar-Tensor Theory

We consider spinning generalizations of the Ellis wormhole in scalar-tensor theory. Analogous to other compact objects these wormholes can carry a non-trivial scalarization. We determine the domain of existence of the scalarized wormholes and investigate the effect of the scalarization on their properties. Depending on the choice of the coupling function, they may possess multiple throats and equators in the Jordan frame, while possessing only a single throat in the Einstein frame.

Geometry of Spinning Ellis Wormholes

We give a detailed account of the properties of spinning Ellis wormholes, supported by a phantom field. The general set of solutions depends on three parameters, associated with the size of the throat, the rotation and the symmetry of the solutions. For symmetric wormholes the global charges possess the same values in both asymptotic regions, while this is no longer the case for non-symmetric wormholes. We present mass formulae for these wormholes, study their quadrupole moments, and discuss the geometry of their throat and their ergoregion. We demonstrate, that these wormholes possess limiting configurations corresponding to an extremal Kerr black hole. Moreover, we analyze the geodesics of these wormholes, and show that they possess bound orbits.
