The Supersymmetry Breaking Soft Terms, and Fermion Masses and Mixings in the Supersymmetric Pati-Salam Model from Intersecting D6-branes

A supersymmetric Pati-Salam model with wrapping number equal to 5 has been constructed in Type IIA orientifolds on $\mathbf{T}^6/(\mathbb{Z}_2\times \mathbb{Z}_2)$ with intersecting D6-branes recently. In particular, the string-scale gauge coupling unification can be achieved due to the intermediate-scale vector-like particles from $\mathcal{N}=2$ sector. We calculate the supersymmetry breaking soft terms, and study the Standard Model (SM) fermion masses and mixings. There are nine pairs of Higgs doublets from $\mathcal{N}=2$ sector. Interestingly, we can explain the SM quark masses and mixings, as well as the charged leptons masses from three point and four-point Yukawa interactions. Moreover, we calculate the supersymmetry breaking soft terms in a previous model with gauge coupling unification since we find a typo in the previous study.

Naturalness and Dark Matter in a Realistic Intersecting D6-Brane Model

We revisit a three-family Pati-Salam model with a realistic phenomenology from intersecting D6-branes in Type IIA string theory compactified on a $\mathbf{T}^6/(\mathbb{Z}_2 \times \mathbb{Z}_2)$ orientifold, and study its naturalness in view of the current LHC and dark matter searches. We discuss spectrum and phenomenological features of this scenario demanding fine tuning better than 1\%. This requirement restricts the lightest neutralino to have mass less than about 600 GeV. We observe that the viable parameter space is tightly constrained by the requirements of naturalness and consistency with the observed dark matter relic density, so that it is fully testable at current and future dark matter searches, unless a non-thermal production mechanism of dark matter is at work. We find that $Z$-resonance, $h$-resonance, $A$-funnel and light stau/stop-neutralino coannihilation solutions are consistent with current LHC and dark matter constraints while the "well-tempered" neutralino scenario is ruled out in our model. Moreover, we observe that only Bino, Higgsinos, right-handed staus and stops can have mass below 1 TeV.

Revisiting the electron-doped SmFeAsO: enhanced superconductivity up to 58.6 K by Th and F codoping

In the iron-based high-Tc bulk superconductors, Tc above 50K was only observed in the electron-doped 1111-type compounds. Here we revisit the electron-doped SmFeAsO polycrystals to make a further investigation for the highest T-c in these materials. To introduce more electron carriers and less crystal lattice distortions, we study the Th and F codoping effects into the Sm-O layers with heavy electron doping. Dozens of Sm1-x Th-x FeAsO1-y F-y samples are synthesized through the solid state reaction method, and these samples are carefully characterized by the structural, resistive, and magnetic measurements. We find that the codoping of Th and F clearly enhances the superconducting T-c more than the Th or F single-doped samples, with the highest record T-c up to 58.6K when x= 0.2 and y= 0.225. Further element doping causes more impurities and lattice distortions in the samples with a weakened superconductivity.

Superconductivity at 3.1 K in the orthorhombic ternary silicide ScRuSi

We report the synthesis, crystal structure, superconductivity and physical property characterizations of the ternary equiatomic compound ScRuSi. Polycrystalline samples of ScRuSi were prepared by an arc-melting method. The as-prepared samples were identified as the orthorhombic Co2P-type o-ScRuSi by the powder X-ray diffraction analysis. Electrical resistivity measurement shows o-ScRuSi to be a metal which superconducts below a Tc of 3.1 K, and the upper critical field μ0Hc2(0) is estimated to be 0.87 T. The magnetization and specific heat measurements confirm the bulk type-II superconductivity in o-ScRuSi, with the specific heat jump within the BCS weak coupling limit. o-ScRuSi is the first Co2P-type superconductor containing scandium. After annealing at 1273 K for a week, o-ScRuSi transforms into the hexagonal Fe2P-type h-ScRuSi, and the latter is a Pauli-paramagnetic metal with no superconductivity observed above 1.8 K.

Discovery of a novel 112-type iron-pnictide and La-doping induced superconductivity in Eu1-xLaxFeAs2 (x = 0 ~ 0.15)

We report the discovery and characterization of a novel 112-type iron pnictide EuFeAs2, with La-doping induced superconductivity in a series of Eu1-xLaxFeAs2. The polycrystalline samples were synthesized through solid state reaction method only within a very narrow temperature window around 1073 K. Small single crystals were also grown from a flux method with the size about 100 um. The crystal structure was identified by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis as a monoclinic structure with space group of P21/m. From resistivity and magnetic susceptibility measurements, we found that the parent compound EuFeAs2 shows a Fe2+ related antiferromagnetic/structural phase transition near 110 K and a Eu2+ related antiferromagnetic phase transition near 40 K. La doping suppressed the both phase transitions and induced superconducting transition with a Tc ~ 11 K for Eu0.85La0.15FeAs2.

Superconductivity in the ternary iridium-arsenide BaIr2As2

Here we report the synthesis and discovery of superconductivity in a novel ternary iridium-arsenide compound BaIr2As2. The polycrystalline BaIr2As2 sample was synthesized by a high temperature and high pressure method. Crystal structural analysis indicates that BaIr2As2 crystallizes in the ThCr2Si2-type layered tetragonal structure with space group I4/mmm (No. 139), and the lattice parameters were refined to be a = 4.052(9) Å and c = 12.787(8) Å. By the electrical resistivity and magnetic susceptibility measurements we found type-II superconductivity in the new BaIr2As2 compound with a Tc (critical temperature) of 2.45 K, and an upper critical field u0Hc2(0) about 0.2 T. Low temperature specific heat measurements gave a Debye temperature about 202 K and a distinct specific jump with delta Ce/γTc = 1.36, which is close to the value of BCS weak coupling limit and confirms the bulk superconductivity in this new BaIr2As2 compound.

Superconductivity at 7.8 K in the ternary LaRu2As2 compound

Here we report the discovery of superconductivity in the ternary LaRu2As2 compound. The polycrystalline LaRu2As2 samples were synthesized by the conventional solid state reaction method. Powder X-ray diffraction analysis indicates that LaRu2As2 crystallizes in the ThCr2Si2-type crystal structure with the space group I4/mmm (No. 139), and the refined lattice parameters are a = 4.182(6) Å and c = 10.590(3) Å. The temperature dependent resistivity measurement shows a clear superconducting transition with the onset Tc (critical temperature) at 7.8 K, and zero resistivity happens at 6.8 K. The upper critical field at zero temperature m0Hc2(0) was estimated to be 1.6 T from the resistivity measurement. DC magnetic susceptibility measurement shows a bulk superconducting Meissner transition at 7.0 K, and the isothermal magnetization measurement indicates that LaRu2As2 is a type-II superconductor.

Superconductivity in undoped CaFe2As2 single crystals

Single crystals of undoped CaFe2As2 were grown by a FeAs self-flux method, and the crystals were quenched in ice-water rapidly after high temperature growth. The quenched crystal undergoes a collapsed tetragonal structural phase transition around 80 K revealed by the temperature dependent X-ray diffraction measurements. Superconductivity below 25 K was observed in the collapsed phase by resistivity and magnetization measurements. The isothermal magnetization curve measured at 2 K indicates that this is a typical type-II superconductor. For comparison, we systematically characterized the properties of the furnace cooled, quenched, and post-annealed single crystals, and found strong internal crystallographic strain existing in the quenched samples, which is the key for the occurrence of superconductivity in the undoped CaFe2As2 single crystals.

A Promising Interpretation of Diphoton Resonance at 750 GeV

Recently, an excess of events in diphoton channel with invariant mass of about 750 GeV has been reported by the ATLAS and CMS Collaborations. Considering it as a tantalizing hint for new physics beyond the Standard Model (SM), we propose a simple extension of the SM with an additional doublet Higgs $H^{'}$ and a singlet $s$. We consider the neutral component $H^{\prime }_0$ of $H'$ as the 750 GeV resonance, and assume that $s$ is lighter than 2.6 GeV. In particular, $H^{\prime }_0$ can be produced at tree level via $q{\bar q}$ production, and decay into a pair of $s$ at tree level. And then $s$ can decay into a pair of collimated photons, which cannot be distinguished at the LHC. We show that the diphoton production cross section can be from 3 to 13 ${\rm fb}$, the decay width of $H^{\prime }_0$ can be from 30 to 60 GeV, and all the current experimental constraints including dijet constraint can be satisfied.

Superconductivity at 3.85 K in BaPd2As2 with the ThCr2Si2-type structure

The single crystal of ThCr2Si2-type BaPd2As2 was successfully prepared by a self-flux method, and the crystal structure was characterized by X-ray diffraction method with the lattice parameters a = 4.489(2) Å and c = 10.322(3) Å. Bulk superconductivity below a Tc (critical temperature) of 3.85 K was revealed in this compound by the measurements of resistivity, magnetic susceptibility and specific heat, and this Tc is much higher than those of other isostructural Pd-based superconductors.

The Super-Natural Supersymmetry and Its Classic Example: M-Theory Inspired NMSSM

We briefly review the super-natural supersymmetry (SUSY), which provides a most promising solution to the SUSY electroweak fine-tuning problem. In particular, we address its subtle issues as well. Unlike the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard model (MSSM), the Next to MSSM (NMSSM) can be scale invariant and has no mass parameter in its Lagrangian before SUSY and gauge symmetry breakings. Therefore, the NMSSM is a perfect framework for super-natural SUSY. To give the SUSY breaking soft mass to the singlet, we consider the moduli and dilaton dominant SUSY breaking scenarios in M-theory on $S^1/Z_2$. In these scenarios, SUSY is broken by one and only one $F$-term of moduli or dilaton, and the SUSY breaking soft terms can be determined via the Kähler potential and superpotential from Calabi-Yau compactification of M-theory on $S^1/Z_2$. Thus, as predicted by super-natural SUSY, the SUSY electroweak fine-tuning measure is of unity order. In the moduli dominant SUSY breaking scenario, the right-handed sleptons are relatively light around 1 TeV, stau can be even as light as 580 GeV and degenerate with the lightest neutralino, chargino masses are larger than 1 TeV, the light stop masses are around 2 TeV or larger, the first two-generation squark masses are about 3 TeV or larger, and gluinos are heavier than squarks. In the dilaton dominant SUSY breaking scenario, the qualitative picture remain the same but we have heavier spectra as compared to moduli dominant SUSY breaking scenario. In addition to it, we have Higgs $H_{2}/A_{1}$-resonance solutions for dark matter (DM). In both scenarios, the minimal value of DM relic density is about 0.2. To obtain the observed DM relic density, we can consider the dilution effect from supercritical string cosmology or introduce the axino as the lightest supersymmetric particle.

The Analytical One-Loop Contributions to Higgs Boson Mass in the Supersymmetric Standard Model with Vector-like Particles

In the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) with additional vector-like particles (VLPs), we for the first time derive the particle mass spectra and the Feynman rules, as well as analytically calculate the one-loop contributions to the Higgs boson mass from the fermions and sfermions. After discussing and numerically analysing a cases without bilinear terms and a case with a (partial) decoupling limit, we find: (i) The corrections depend on the mass splittings between quarks and squarks and between vector-like fermions and their sfermions; (ii) There exists the (partial) decoupling limit, where the VLPs decouple from the electrwoeak (EW) energy scale, even when one of the VLPs is light around the EW scale. The reason is that the contributions to Higgs mass can be suppressed by the (or partial) decoupling effects, which can make the EW phenomenology very different from the MSSM; (iii) The SM-like Higgs boson with mass around 125 GeV gives strong constraints on the VLPs if the top squarks are around 1~TeV. Moreover, we present some numerical analyses to understand these unique features.

Two component dark matter with multi-Higgs portals

With the assistance of two extra groups, i.e., an extra hidden gauge group $SU(2)_D$ and a global $U(1)$ group, we propose a two component dark matter (DM) model. After the symmetry $SU(2)_D\times U(1)$ being broken, we obtain both the vector and scalar DM candidates. The two DM candidates communicate with the standard model (SM) via three Higgs as multi-Higgs portals. The three Higgs are mixing states of the SM Higgs, the Higgs of the hidden sector and real part of a supplement complex scalar singlet. We study relic density and direct detection of DM in three scenarios. The resonance behaviors and interplay between the two component DM candidates are represented through investigating of the relic density in the parameter spaces of the two DMs masses. The electroweak precision parameters constrains the two Higgs portals couplings ($λ_m$ and $δ_2$). The relevant vacuum stability and naturalness problem in the parameter space of $λ_m$ and $δ_2$ are studied as well. The model could alleviate these two problems in some parameter spaces under the constraints of electroweak precision observables and Higgs indirect search.

Distinguishing the right-handed up/charm quarks from top quark via discrete symmetries in the standard model extensions

We propose a class of the two Higgs doublet Standard models (SMs) with a SM singlet and a class of supersymmetric SMs with two pairs of Higgs doublets, where the right-handed up/charm quarks and the right-handed top quark have different quantum numbers under extra discrete symmetries. Thus, the right-handed up and charm quarks couple to one Higgs doublet field, while the right-handed top quark couples to another Higgs doublet. The quark CKM mixings can be generated from the down-type quark sector. As one of phenomenological consequences in our models, we explore whether one can accommodate the observed direct CP asymmetry difference in singly Cabibbo-suppressed D decays. We show that it is possible to explain the measured values of CP violation under relevant experimental constraints.

A Realistic Intersecting D6-Brane Model after the First LHC Run

With the Higgs boson mass around 125 GeV and the LHC supersymmetry search constraints, we revisit a three-family Pati-Salam model from intersecting D6-branes in Type IIA string theory on the $\mathbf{T^6/(\Z_2 \times \Z_2)}$ orientifold which has a realistic phenomenology. We systematically scan the parameter space for $μ<0$ and $μ>0$, and find that the gravitino mass is generically heavier than about 2 TeV for both cases due to the Higgs mass low bound 123 GeV. In particular, we identify a region of parameter space with the electroweak fine-tuning as small as $Δ_{EW} \sim$ 24-32 (3-4$\%$). In the viable parameter space which is consistent with all the current constraints, the mass ranges for gluino, the first two-generation squarks and sleptons are respectively $[3, ~18]$ TeV, $[3, ~16]$ TeV, and $[2, ~7]$ TeV. For the third-generation sfermions, the light stop satisfying $5σ$ WMAP bounds via neutralino-stop coannihilation has mass from 0.5 to 1.2 TeV, and the light stau can be as light as 800 GeV. We also show various coannihilation and resonance scenarios through which the observed dark matter relic density is achieved. Interestingly, the certain portions of parameter space has excellent $t$-$b$-$τ$ and $b$-$τ$ Yukawa coupling unification. Three regions of parameter space are highlighted as well where the dominant component of the lightest neutralino is a bino, wino or higgsino. We discuss various scenarios in which such solutions may avoid recent astrophysical bounds in case if they satisfy or above observed relic density bounds. Prospects of finding higgsino-like neutralino in direct and indirect searches are also studied. And we display six tables of benchmark points depicting various interesting features of our model.

Enhanced superconductivity in F-doped LaO1-xFxBiSSe

The layered compound LaOBiSSe was successfully synthesized by a two-step solid-state reaction method, which is isostructural with the quaternary compound LaOBiS2 indicated by the powder X-ray diffraction characterization, and the crystal lattice parameters are slightly expanded by the substitution of Se atoms. Electrical transport measurement shows that LaOBiSSe exhibits semiconducting behavior similar with the parent compound LaOBiS2, while by F-doping the samples can be much more easily turned to be metallic and superconducting at low temperature with a small amount of F. Under the optimal carrier doping concentration of F ~ 0.5, the superconducting critical temperature of LaO0.5F0.5BiSSe is clearly enhanced up to a value of 3.8 K than the 3.2 K of LaO0.5F0.5BiS2.

Rare B decays in the flip SU(5) Model

In the testable Flipped $SU(5)\times U(1)_X$ model with TeV-scale vector-like particles from F-theory model building dubbed as the flip SU(5) model, we study the vector-like quark contributions to B physics processes, including the quark mass spectra, Feynman rules, new operators and Wilson coefficients, etc. We focus on the implications of the vector-like quark mass scale on B physics. We find that there exists the $\bar{s}bZ$ interaction at tree level, and the Yukawa interactions are changed. Interestingly, different from many previous models, the effects of vector-like quarks on rare B decays such as $B\to X_sγ$ and $B\to X_s\ell^+\ell^-$ do not decouple in some viable parameter space, especially when the vector-like quark masses are comparable to the charged Higgs boson mass. Under the constraints from $B\to X_sγ$ and $\ B\to X_s\ell^+\ell^-$, the latest measurement for $B_s\to μ^+μ^-$ can be explained naturally, and the branching ratio of $B_s\to \ell^+\ell^-γ$ can be up to $(4\sim5)\times10^{-8}$. The non-decouling effects are much more predictable and thus the \fsu5 model may be tested in the near future experiments.
