Geometry of Kirkwood-Dirac classical states: A case study based on discrete Fourier transform

The characterization of Kirkwood-Dirac (KD) classicality or non-classicality is very important in quantum information processing. In general, the set of KD classical states with respect to two bases is not a convex polytope[J. Math. Phys. \textbf{65} 072201 (2024)], which makes us interested in finding out in which circumnstances they do form a polytope. In this paper, we focus on the characterization of KD classicality of mixed states for the case where the transition matrix between two bases is a discrete Fourier transform (DFT) matrix in Hilbert space with dimensions $p^2$ and $pq$, respectively, where $p, q$ are prime. For the two particular cases we investigate, the sets of extremal points are finite, implying that the set of KD classical states we characterize forms a convex polytope. We show that for $p^2$ dimensional system, the set $\rm{KD}_{\mathcal{A},\mathcal{B}}^+$ is a convex hull of the set $\rm {pure}({\rm {KD}_{\mathcal{A},\mathcal{B}}^+})$ based on DFT, where $\rm{KD}_{\mathcal{A},\mathcal{B}}^+$ is the set of KD classical states with respect to two bases and $\rm {pure}({\rm {KD}_{\mathcal{A},\mathcal{B}}^+})$ is the set of all the rank-one projectors of KD classical pure states with respect to two bases. In $pq$ dimensional system, we believe that this result also holds. Unfortunately, we do not completely prove it, but some meaningful conclusions are obtained about the characterization of KD classicality.

Characterizing Kirkwood-Dirac nonclassicality and uncertainty diagram based on discrete Fourier transform

In this paper, we investigate the Kirkwood-Dirac nonclassicality and uncertainty diagram based on discrete Fourier transform (DFT) in a $d$ dimensional system. The uncertainty diagram of complete incompatibility bases $\mathcal {A},\mathcal {B}$ are characterized by De Bièvre [arXiv: 2207.07451]. We show that for the uncertainty diagram of the DFT matrix which is a transition matrix from basis $\mathcal {A}$ to basis $\mathcal {B}$, there is no ``hole" in the region of the $(n_{\mathcal {A}}, n_{\mathcal {B}})$-plane above and on the line $n_{\mathcal {A}}+n_{\mathcal {B}}\geq d+1$, whether the bases $\mathcal {A},\mathcal {B}$ are not complete incompatible bases or not. Then we present that the KD nonclassicality of a state based on the DFT matrix can be completely characterized by using the support uncertainty relation $n_{\mathcal {A}}(ψ)n_{\mathcal {B}}(ψ)\geq d$, where $n_{\mathcal {A}}(ψ)$ and $n_{\mathcal {B}}(ψ)$ count the number of nonvanishing coefficients in the basis $\mathcal {A}$ and $\mathcal {B}$ representations, respectively. That is, a state $|ψ\rangle$ is KD nonclassical if and only if $n_{\mathcal {A}}(ψ)n_{\mathcal {B}}(ψ)> d$, whenever $d$ is prime or not. That gives a positive answer to the conjecture in [Phys. Rev. Lett. \textbf{127}, 190404 (2021)].

Lijiang 2.4-meter Telescope and its Instruments

Lijiang 2.4-meter Telescope(LJT), the largest common-purpose optical telescope in China, has been applied to the world-wide astronomers since 2008. It is located at Gaomeigu site, Lijiang Observatory(LJO), the southwest of China. The site has very good observational conditions. Since 10-year operation, several instruments have been equipped on the LJT. Astronomers can perform both photometric and spectral observations. The main scientific goals of LJT include photometric and spectral evolution of supernova, reverberation mapping of active galactic nucleus, physical properties of binary star and near-earth object(comet and asteroid), identification of exoplanet, and all kinds of transients. Until now, the masses of 41 high accretion rate black holes have been measured, and more than 168 supernova have been identified by the LJT. More than 190 papers related to the LJT have been published. In this paper, the general observation condition of the Gaomeigu site is introduced at first. Then, the LJT structure is described in detail, including the optical, mechanical, motion and control system. The specification of all the instruments, and some detailed parameters of the YFOSC is also presented. Finally, some important scientific results and future expectations are summarized.

Assisted coherence distillation of certain mixed states

In the task of assisted coherence distillation via the set of operations X, where X is either local incoherent operations and classical communication (LICC), local quantum-incoherent operations and classical communication (LQICC), separable incoherent operations (SI), or separable quantum incoherent operations (SQI), two parties, namely Alice and Bob, share many copies of a bipartite joint state. The aim of the process is to generate the maximal possible coherence on the subsystem of Bob. In this paper, we investigate the assisted coherence distillation of some special mixed states, the states with vanished basis-dependent discord and Werner states. We show that all the four sets of operations are equivalent for assisted coherence distillation, whenever Alice and Bob share one of those mixed quantum states. Moreover, we prove that the assisted coherence distillation of the former can reach the upper bound, namely QI relative entropy, while that of the latter can not. Meanwhile, we also present a sufficient condition such that the assistance of Alice via the set of operations X can not help Bob improve his distillable coherence, and this condition is that the state shared by Alice and Bob has vanished basis-dependent discord.

Relating quantum coherence and correlations with entropy-based measures

Quantum coherence as an important quantum resource plays a key role in quantum theory. In this paper, using entropy-based measures, we investigate the relations between quantum correlated coherence, which is the coherence between subsystems [K. C. Tan, H. Kwon, C. Y. Park, and H. Jeong, Phys. Rev. A 94, 022329 (2016)], and two main kinds of quantum correlations as defined by quantum discord as well as quantum entanglement. In particular, we show that quantum discord and quantum entanglement can be well characterized by quantum correlated coherence. Moreover, we prove that the entanglement measure formulated by quantum correlated coherence is lower and upper bounded by the relative entropy of entanglement and the entanglement of formation, respectively, and equal to the relative entropy of entanglement for maximally correlated states.

Coherence of Superpositions

Quantum coherence is important in quantum mechanics, and its essence is from superposition principle. We study the coherence of any two pure states and that of their arbitrary superposition, and obtain the relationship between them. In the case that the two states have support on orthogonal subspaces, the relationship is simple, that is, the difference between the coherence of their superposition state and the average coherence of them is smaller than 1. In other cases, we obtain different and a little more complicated relationships. Furthermore, we also obtain the lower bound of coherence of superpositions.

On $W_{1+\infty}$ 3-algebra and integrable system

We construct the $W_{1+\infty}$ 3-algebra and investigate the relation between this infinite-dimensional 3-algebra and the integrable systems. Since the $W_{1+\infty}$ 3-algebra with a fixed generator $W^0_0$ in the operator Nambu 3-bracket recovers the $W_{1+\infty}$ algebra, it is natural to derive the KP hierarchy from the Nambu-Poisson evolution equation. For the general case of the $W_{1+\infty}$ 3-algebra, we directly derive the KP and KdV equations from the Nambu-Poisson evolution equation with the different Hamiltonian pairs. We also discuss the connection between the $W_{1+\infty}$ 3-algebra and the dispersionless KdV equations. Due to the Nambu-Poisson evolution equation involves two Hamiltonians, the deep relationship between the Hamiltonian pairs of KP hierarchy is revealed. Furthermore we give a realization of $W_{1+\infty}$ 3-algebra in terms of a complex bosonic field. Based on the Nambu 3-brackets of the complex bosonic field, we derive the (generalized) nonlinear Schrödinger equation and give an application in optical soliton.
