Semi-Supervised Heterogeneous Graph Learning with Multi-level Data Augmentation

In recent years, semi-supervised graph learning with data augmentation (DA) is currently the most commonly used and best-performing method to enhance model robustness in sparse scenarios with few labeled samples. Differing from homogeneous graph, DA in heterogeneous graph has greater challenges: heterogeneity of information requires DA strategies to effectively handle heterogeneous relations, which considers the information contribution of different types of neighbors and edges to the target nodes. Furthermore, over-squashing of information is caused by the negative curvature that formed by the non-uniformity distribution and strong clustering in complex graph. To address these challenges, this paper presents a novel method named Semi-Supervised Heterogeneous Graph Learning with Multi-level Data Augmentation (HG-MDA). For the problem of heterogeneity of information in DA, node and topology augmentation strategies are proposed for the characteristics of heterogeneous graph. And meta-relation-based attention is applied as one of the indexes for selecting augmented nodes and edges. For the problem of over-squashing of information, triangle based edge adding and removing are designed to alleviate the negative curvature and bring the gain of topology. Finally, the loss function consists of the cross-entropy loss for labeled data and the consistency regularization for unlabeled data. In order to effectively fuse the prediction results of various DA strategies, the sharpening is used. Existing experiments on public datasets, i.e., ACM, DBLP, OGB, and industry dataset MB show that HG-MDA outperforms current SOTA models. Additionly, HG-MDA is applied to user identification in internet finance scenarios, helping the business to add 30% key users, and increase loans and balances by 3.6%, 11.1%, and 9.8%.

HGV4Risk: Hierarchical Global View-guided Sequence Representation Learning for Risk Prediction

Risk prediction, as a typical time series modeling problem, is usually achieved by learning trends in markers or historical behavior from sequence data, and has been widely applied in healthcare and finance. In recent years, deep learning models, especially Long Short-Term Memory neural networks (LSTMs), have led to superior performances in such sequence representation learning tasks. Despite that some attention or self-attention based models with time-aware or feature-aware enhanced strategies have achieved better performance compared with other temporal modeling methods, such improvement is limited due to a lack of guidance from global view. To address this issue, we propose a novel end-to-end Hierarchical Global View-guided (HGV) sequence representation learning framework. Specifically, the Global Graph Embedding (GGE) module is proposed to learn sequential clip-aware representations from temporal correlation graph at instance level. Furthermore, following the way of key-query attention, the harmonic $β$-attention ($β$-Attn) is also developed for making a global trade-off between time-aware decay and observation significance at channel level adaptively. Moreover, the hierarchical representations at both instance level and channel level can be coordinated by the heterogeneous information aggregation under the guidance of global view. Experimental results on a benchmark dataset for healthcare risk prediction, and a real-world industrial scenario for Small and Mid-size Enterprises (SMEs) credit overdue risk prediction in MYBank, Ant Group, have illustrated that the proposed model can achieve competitive prediction performance compared with other known baselines.

Cross-Architecture Self-supervised Video Representation Learning

In this paper, we present a new cross-architecture contrastive learning (CACL) framework for self-supervised video representation learning. CACL consists of a 3D CNN and a video transformer which are used in parallel to generate diverse positive pairs for contrastive learning. This allows the model to learn strong representations from such diverse yet meaningful pairs. Furthermore, we introduce a temporal self-supervised learning module able to predict an Edit distance explicitly between two video sequences in the temporal order. This enables the model to learn a rich temporal representation that compensates strongly to the video-level representation learned by the CACL. We evaluate our method on the tasks of video retrieval and action recognition on UCF101 and HMDB51 datasets, where our method achieves excellent performance, surpassing the state-of-the-art methods such as VideoMoCo and MoCo+BE by a large margin. The code is made available at https://github.com/guoshengcv/CACL.

Probing Phase Structure of Black Holes with Lyapunov Exponents

We conjecture that there exists a relationship between Lyapunov exponents and black hole phase transitions. To support our conjecture, Lyapunov exponents of the motion of particles and ring strings are calculated for Reissner-Nordström-AdS black holes. When a phase transition occurs, the Lyapunov exponents become multivalued, and branches of the Lyapunov exponents coincide with black hole phases. Moreover, the discontinuous change in the Lyapunov exponents can be treated as an order parameter, and has a critical exponent of $1/2$ near the critical point. Our findings reveal that Lyapunov exponents can be an efficient tool to study phase structure of black holes.

Poincaré Heterogeneous Graph Neural Networks for Sequential Recommendation

Sequential recommendation (SR) learns users' preferences by capturing the sequential patterns from users' behaviors evolution. As discussed in many works, user-item interactions of SR generally present the intrinsic power-law distribution, which can be ascended to hierarchy-like structures. Previous methods usually handle such hierarchical information by making user-item sectionalization empirically under Euclidean space, which may cause distortion of user-item representation in real online scenarios. In this paper, we propose a Poincaré-based heterogeneous graph neural network named PHGR to model the sequential pattern information as well as hierarchical information contained in the data of SR scenarios simultaneously. Specifically, for the purpose of explicitly capturing the hierarchical information, we first construct a weighted user-item heterogeneous graph by aliening all the user-item interactions to improve the perception domain of each user from a global view. Then the output of the global representation would be used to complement the local directed item-item homogeneous graph convolution. By defining a novel hyperbolic inner product operator, the global and local graph representation learning are directly conducted in Poincaré ball instead of commonly used projection operation between Poincaré ball and Euclidean space, which could alleviate the cumulative error issue of general bidirectional translation process. Moreover, for the purpose of explicitly capturing the sequential dependency information, we design two types of temporal attention operations under Poincaré ball space. Empirical evaluations on datasets from the public and financial industry show that PHGR outperforms several comparison methods.

Emotion-based Modeling of Mental Disorders on Social Media

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), one in four people will be affected by mental disorders at some point in their lives. However, in many parts of the world, patients do not actively seek professional diagnosis because of stigma attached to mental illness, ignorance of mental health and its associated symptoms. In this paper, we propose a model for passively detecting mental disorders using conversations on Reddit. Specifically, we focus on a subset of mental disorders that are characterized by distinct emotional patterns (henceforth called emotional disorders): major depressive, anxiety, and bipolar disorders. Through passive (i.e., unprompted) detection, we can encourage patients to seek diagnosis and treatment for mental disorders. Our proposed model is different from other work in this area in that our model is based entirely on the emotional states, and the transition between these states of users on Reddit, whereas prior work is typically based on content-based representations (e.g., n-grams, language model embeddings, etc). We show that content-based representation is affected by domain and topic bias and thus does not generalize, while our model, on the other hand, suppresses topic-specific information and thus generalizes well across different topics and times. We conduct experiments on our model's ability to detect different emotional disorders and on the generalizability of our model. Our experiments show that while our model performs comparably to content-based models, such as BERT, it generalizes much better across time and topic.

Holographic Superconductors in a Non-minimally Coupled Einstein-Maxwell-scalar Model

In this paper, we investigate holographic superconductors dual to asymptotically anti-de Sitter black holes in an Einstein-Maxwell-scalar model with a non-minimal coupling between the scalar and Maxwell fields. In the probe limit, it shows that the scalar condensate occurs below the critical temperature $T_{c}$, and decreases with the increase of the coupling constant $α$. On the other hand, the the critical temperature $T_{c}$ increases as the coupling constant $α$ grows. We also calculate the optical conductivity of the holographic superconductor, and observe that a gap forms below $T_{c}$. Interestingly, the non-minimal coupling can lead to a spike occurring in the gap at a low temperature.

HCGR: Hyperbolic Contrastive Graph Representation Learning for Session-based Recommendation

Session-based recommendation (SBR) learns users' preferences by capturing the short-term and sequential patterns from the evolution of user behaviors. Among the studies in the SBR field, graph-based approaches are a relatively powerful kind of way, which generally extract item information by message aggregation under Euclidean space. However, such methods can't effectively extract the hierarchical information contained among consecutive items in a session, which is critical to represent users' preferences. In this paper, we present a hyperbolic contrastive graph recommender (HCGR), a principled session-based recommendation framework involving Lorentz hyperbolic space to adequately capture the coherence and hierarchical representations of the items. Within this framework, we design a novel adaptive hyperbolic attention computation to aggregate the graph message of each user's preference in a session-based behavior sequence. In addition, contrastive learning is leveraged to optimize the item representation by considering the geodesic distance between positive and negative samples in hyperbolic space. Extensive experiments on four real-world datasets demonstrate that HCGR consistently outperforms state-of-the-art baselines by 0.43$\%$-28.84$\%$ in terms of $HitRate$, $NDCG$ and $MRR$.

Thermodynamics with pressure and volume of black holes based on two assumptions under scalar field scattering

Recently, a new assumption was proposed in [Phys. Rev. D 100, no.10, 104022 (2019)]. This assumption considers that the energy of the particle changes the enthalpy of the black hole after throwing the particle into the black hole. Using the energy-momentum relation, the results show that the second law of thermodynamics of the black hole is valid in extended phase space. In this paper, we discuss the validity of the laws of thermodynamics and the stability of the horizon of the charged AdS black hole by scalar field scattering under two assumptions, i.e., the energy flux of the scalar field $dE$ changes the internal energy of the black hole $dU$ and the energy flux of the scalar field $dE$ changes the enthalpy of the black hole $dM$.

Multi-modal Identification of State-Sponsored Propaganda on Social Media

The prevalence of state-sponsored propaganda on the Internet has become a cause for concern in the recent years. While much effort has been made to identify state-sponsored Internet propaganda, the problem remains far from being solved because the ambiguous definition of propaganda leads to unreliable data labelling, and the huge amount of potential predictive features causes the models to be inexplicable. This paper is the first attempt to build a balanced dataset for this task. The dataset is comprised of propaganda by three different organizations across two time periods. A multi-model framework for detecting propaganda messages solely based on the visual and textual content is proposed which achieves a promising performance on detecting propaganda by the three organizations both for the same time period (training and testing on data from the same time period) (F1=0.869) and for different time periods (training on past, testing on future) (F1=0.697). To reduce the influence of false positive predictions, we change the threshold to test the relationship between the false positive and true positive rates and provide explanations for the predictions made by our models with visualization tools to enhance the interpretability of our framework. Our new dataset and general framework provide a strong benchmark for the task of identifying state-sponsored Internet propaganda and point out a potential path for future work on this task.

Thermodynamics with pressure and volume of 4D Gauss-Bonnet AdS Black Holes under the scalar field

By using the scattering of a scalar field, we discuss the thermodynamics and overcharging problem in a 4D Gauss-Bonnet AdS black hole in both the normal phase space and extended phase space. In the normal phase space, where the cosmological constant and Gauss-Bonnet parameter are fixed, the first law and the second law of thermodynamics are valid. In addiction, the black hole cannot be overcharged and the weak cosmic censorship conjecture is valid. In the extended phase space, where the cosmological constant and Gauss-Bonnet parameter are treated as the thermodynamic variables, the first law is still valid. However, the second law is indefinite. Moreover, after the scattering of the scalar field, the extremal black hole cannot be overcharged and the near-extremal black hole can be overcharged.

Remarks on the weak cosmic censorship conjecture of RN-AdS black holes with cloud of strings and quintessence under the scalar field

In this paper, we investigate the thermodynamics and weak cosmic censorship conjecture in a RN-AdS black hole with the cloud of strings and quintessence by the scattering of a scalar field. The variations of the thermodynamic variables are calculated in the normal and extended phase spaces. In the normal phase space, where the cosmological constant is considered as a constant, the first and second laws of thermodynamics are satisfied. In the extended phase space, where the cosmological constant and the parameters related to the cloud of strings and quintessence are treated as variables, the first law of thermodynamics is still satisfied and the second law of thermodynamics is indefinite. Moreover, we find that the weak cosmic censorship conjecture is valid for the extremal and near-extremal black holes in both phase spaces.

Minimal Length Effects on Motion of a Particle in Rindler Space

Various quantum theories of gravity predict the existence of a minimal measurable length. In this paper, we study effects of the minimal length on the motion of a particle in the Rindler space under a harmonic potential. This toy model captures key features of particle dynamics near a black hole horizon, and allows us to make three observations. First, we find that the chaotic behavior is stronger with the increases of the minimal length effects, which manifests that the maximum Lyapunov characteristic exponents mostly grow, and the KAM curves on Poincaré surfaces of section tend to disintegrate into chaotic layers. Second, in the presence of the minimal length effects, it can take a finite amount of Rindler time for a particle to cross the Rindler horizon, which implies a shorter scrambling time of black holes. Finally, it shows that some Lyapunov characteristic exponents can be greater than the surface gravity of the horizon, violating the recently conjectured universal upper bound. In short, our results reveal that quantum gravity effects may make black holes prone to more chaos and faster scrambling.

Chaotic Motion around a Black Hole under Minimal Length Effects

We use the Melnikov method to identify chaotic behavior in geodesic motion perturbed by the minimal length effects around a Schwarzschild black hole. Unlike the integrable unperturbed geodesic motion, our results show that the perturbed homoclinic orbit, which is a geodesic joining the unstable circular orbit to itself, becomes chaotic in the sense that Smale horseshoes chaotic structure is present in phase space.

Membrane Paradigm and Holographic DC Conductivity for Nonlinear Electrodynamics

Membrane paradigm is a powerful tool to study properties of black hole horizons. We first explore the properties of the nonlinear electromagnetic membrane of black holes. For a general nonlinear electrodynamics field, we show that the conductivities of the horizon usually have off-diagonal components and depend on the normal electric and magnetic fields on the horizon. Via the holographic duality, we find a model-independent expression for the holographic DC conductivities of the conserved current dual to a probe nonlinear electrodynamics field in a neutral and static black brane background. It shows that these DC conductivities only depend on the geometric and electromagnetic quantities evaluated at the horizon. We can also express the DC conductivities in terms of the temperature, charge density and magnetic field in the boundary theory, as well as the values of the couplings in the nonlinear electrodynamics at the horizon.

We then use it to calculate tunnelling rates through potential barriers under the WKB approximation. Finally, the minimal length effects on two examples of quantum tunneling in nuclear and atomic physics are discussed

The Classical Limit of Minimal Length Uncertainty Relation:Revisit with the Hamilton-Jacobi Method

The existence of a minimum measurable length could deform not only the standard quantum mechanics but also classical physics. The effects of the minimal length on classical orbits of particles in a gravitation field have been investigated before, using the deformed Poisson bracket or Schwarzschild metric. In this paper, we use the Hamilton-Jacobi method to study motions of particles in the context of deformed Newtonian mechanics and general relativity. Specifically, the precession of planetary orbits, deflection of light, and time delay in radar propagation are considered in this paper. We also set limits on the deformation parameter by comparing our results with the observational measurements. Finally, comparison with results from previous papers is given at the end of this paper.
