The Hermitian-Yang-Mills Iteration on Stable Bundles

In this paper, based on recent results for the prescribed Hermitian-Yang-Mills (HYM) tensor and its twisted variants by Fan-Wang-Yang-Yau, we provide a dynamical construction of Hermitian-Einstein metrics on stable holomorphic vector bundles and its extension to Higgs bundles. Additionally, in the appendix, we use the heat flow method to give a new proof of the existence and uniqueness of solutions to the twisted prescribed HYM tensor equation, as well as its generalization to Higgs bundles.

Hodge Laplacian and geometry of Kuranishi family of Fano manifolds

We first obtain eigenvalue estimates for the Hodge Laplacian on Fano manifolds, which follow from the Bochner-Kodaira formula. Then we apply it to study the geometry of the Kuranishi family of deformations of Fano manifolds. We show that the original K\"ahler form remains to be a K\"ahler form for other members of the Kuranishi family, and give an explicit formula of the Ricci potential. We also show that our set-up gives another account for the Donaldson-Fujiki picture.

A Weil-Petersson Type Metric on the Space of Fano Kaehler-Ricci Solitons

In this paper we define a Weil-Petersson type metric on the space of shrinking Kaehler-Ricci solitons and prove a necessary and sufficient condition on when it is independent of the choices of Kaehler-Ricci soliton metrics. We also show that the Weil-Petersson metric is Kaehler when it defines a metric on the Kuranishi space of small deformations of Fano Kaehler-Ricci solitons. Finally, we establish the first and second order deformation of Fano Kähler-Ricci solitons and show that, essentially, the first effective term in deforming Kaehler-Ricci solitons leads to the Weil-Petersson metric.

On Deformations of Fano Manifolds

In this paper we provide new necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of Kähler-Einstein metrics on small deformations of a Fano Kähler-Einstein manifold. We also show that the Weil-Petersson metric can be approximated by the Ricci curvatures of the canonical $L^2$ metrics on the direct image bundles. In addition, we describe the plurisubharmonicity of the energy functional of harmonic maps on the Kuranishi space of the deformation of compact Kähler-Einstein manifolds of general type.

Curvatures of moduli space of curves and applications

In this paper, we investigate the geometry of the moduli space of curves by using the curvature properties of direct image sheaves of vector bundles. We show that the moduli space $(M_g, ω_{WP})$ of curves with genus $g>1$ has dual-Nakano negative and semi-Nakano-negative curvature, and in particular, it has non-positive Riemannain curvature operator and also non-positive complex sectional curvature. As applications, we prove that any submanifold in $M_g$ which is totally geodesic in $A_g$ with finite volume must be a ball quotient.

On the structure of gradient Yamabe solitons

We show that every complete nontrivial gradient Yamabe soliton admits a special global warped product structure with a one-dimensional base. Based on this, we prove a general classification theorem for complete nontrivial locally conformally flat gradient Yamabe solitons.

Positivity and vanishing theorems for ample vector bundles

In this paper, we study the Nakano-positivity and dual-Nakano-positivity of certain adjoint vector bundles associated to ample vector bundles. As applications, we get new vanishing theorems about ample vector bundles. For example, we prove that if $E$ is an ample vector bundle over a compact Kähler manifold $X$, $S^kE\ts \det E$ is both Nakano-positive and dual-Nakano-positive for any $k\geq 0$. Moreover, $H^{n,q}(X,S^kE\ts \det E)=H^{q,n}(X,S^kE\ts \det E)=0$ for any $q\geq 1$. In particular, if $(E,h)$ is a Griffiths-positive vector bundle, the naturally induced Hermitian vector bundle $(S^kE\ts \det E, S^kh\ts \det h)$ is both Nakano-positive and dual-Nakano-positive for any $k\geq 0$.

Weil-Petersson geometry on moduli space of polarized Calabi-Yau manifolds

In this paper, we define and study the Weil-Petersson geometry. Under the framework of the Weil-Petersson geometry, we study the Weil-Petersson metric and the Hodge metric. Among the other results, we represent the Hodge metric in terms of the Weil-Petersson metric and the Ricci curvature of the Weil-Petersson metric for Calabi-Yau fourfold moduli. We also prove that the Hodge volume of the moduli space is finite. Finally, we proved that the curvature of the Hodge metric is bounded if the Hodge metric is complete and the dimension of the moduli space is 1.

Geometric Aspects of the Moduli Space of Riemann Surfaces

This is a survey of our recent results on the geometry of moduli spaces and Teichmuller spaces of Riemann surfaces appeared in math.DG/0403068 and math.DG/0409220. We introduce new metrics on the moduli and the Teichmuller spaces of Riemann surfaces with very good properties, study their curvatures and boundary behaviors in great detail. Based on the careful analysis of these new metrics, we have a good understanding of the Kahler-Einstein metric from which we prove that the logarithmic cotangent bundle of the moduli space is stable. Another corolary is a proof of the equivalences of all of the known classical complete metrics to the new metrics, in particular Yau's conjectures in the early 80s on the equivalences of the Kahler-Einstein metric to the Teichmuller and the Bergman metric.

Canonical Metrics on the Moduli Space of Riemann Surfaces II

In this paper we continue our study on the canonical metrics on the Teichmüller and the moduli space of Riemman surfaces. We first prove the equivalence of the Bergman metric and the Carathéodory metric to the Kähler-Einstein metric, solving another old conjecture of Yau. We then prove that the Ricci curvature of the perturbed Ricci metric has negative upper and lower bounds, and it also has bounded geometry. Then we study in detail the boundary behaviors of the Kähler-Einstein metric and prove that it has bounded geometry, and all of the covariant derivatives of its curvature are uniformly bounded on the Teichmüller space. As an application of our detailed understanding of these metrics, we prove that the logarithmic cotangent bundle of the moduli space is stable in the sense of Mumford.

Canonical Metrics on the Moduli Space of Riemann Surfaces I

We prove the equivalences of several classical complete metrics on the Teichmüller and the moduli spaces of Riemann surfaces. We use as bridge two new Kähler metrics, the Ricci metric and the perturbed Ricci metric and prove that the perturbed Ricci metric is a complete Kähler metric with bounded negative holomorphic sectional curvature and bounded bisectional and Ricci curvature. As consequences we prove that these two new metrics are equivalent to several famous classical metrics, which inlcude the Teichmüller metric, therefore the Kabayashi metric, the Kähler-Einstein metric and the McMullen metric. This also solves a conjecture of Yau in the early 80s.
