Availability-Aware and Efficiency-Driven AI Service Chain Provisioning in Multi-Domain Edge Intelligence Cloud

In a multi-domain edge intelligence cloud (MDEIC) managed by multiple network operators, AI services are delivered by chains of virtual network functions (VNFs) executed in sequence, called AI service chains (AISCs). Therefore, achieving an efficient and economical AISC provisioning approach is essential. However, the interaction between the environmental characteristics (heterogeneity, resource constraints and limited information visibility) of MDEIC and the time-dependence of AISCs, introduces various challenges to AISC provisioning in MDEIC. In this paper, we first formulate the AISC provisioning problem as a partially observable stochastic game (POSG). Then, we propose a graph-and-time-based multi-agent AISC provisioning (GT-MAAISCP) approach to achieve the collaborative optimization of AISC provisioning cost, delay and availability. Specifically, each agent uses the graph-time dueling network (GTDN) architecture to extract network topology information and temporal relationships. Finally, the experimental results demonstrate that the proposed approach outperforms benchmark approaches in MDEIC and also illustrate its performance under varying network topologies and different numbers of local EICs (LEICs).

AISC deployment in dynamic UAV-assisted MEC network: a reinforcement learning method based on heterogeneous graph attention neural network

Unmanned aerial vehicles-assisted mobile edge computing (UMEC) can execute compute-intensive and latency-critical artificial intelligence (AI) services, which can be provided by multiple UAVs collaborating in the air to perform inference tasks. Completing an AI service requires multiple inferences, each of which is implemented by an AI service chain consisting of multiple virtual network functions (VNFs). The application of AISC relies on an efficient AISC deployment strategy to determine which UAV to deploy VNF on. However, the UMEC network topology is highly dynamic due to the high-speed movement of UAVs or their departure/arrival, which makes the AISC deployment in the UMEC network challenging. In addition, the intricate relationships between UMEC environment and AISC, as well as between individual VNFs in an AISC, can also affect the effectiveness of AISC deployment strategy. Moreover, under the constraints of energy consumption and load balancing, it is also difficult to optimize the AISC strategy to minimize AISC completion time for enhancing the quality of AI service. To address the above challenges, this paper proposes a double deep attention Q-network based on heterogeneous graph neural networks, which incorporates heterogeneous graph to capture diverse relationships in UMEC and utilizes attention mechanisms to adaptively focus on critical nodes and links for intelligent AISC deployment. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm performs excellently in AISC completion time, AISC completion rate, load balancing and energy consumption.

Radiation properties of a regular black hole embedded in a Dehnen-type dark matter halo with a thin accretion disk

We investigate the shadow, timelike geodesic structure, radiation properties of thin accretion disks, and optical appearance of a static spherically symmetric regular black hole, constructed based on the Dehnen-type density profile. Using observational data from M87* and Sgr A*, we constrain the model parameter $a$ at both $1σ$ and $2σ$ confidence levels. Based on the Page--Thorne model, we calculate the local radiative flux, redshift factor distribution, and the radiation flux received by a distant observer, systematically examining the effects of the parameter $a$ and the viewing angle on the black hole image. The results show that larger $a$ will enlarge the effective radiation area of the accretion disk and significantly enhance the asymmetry and Doppler boosting effects of the direct and secondary images at large viewing angles.

Quantum Simulation of Resonant Transitions for Solving the Eigen-problem of an Effective Water Hamiltonian

It is difficult to calculate the energy levels and eigenstates of a large physical system on a classical computer because of the exponentially growing size of the Hilbert space. In this work, we experimentally demonstrate a quantum algorithm which could solve this problem via simulated resonant transitions. Using a four-qubit quantum simulator in which two qubits are used as ancillas for control and measurement, we obtain the energy spectrum of a 2-qubit low-energy effective Hamiltonian of the water molecule. The simulated transitions allow the state of the quantum simulator to transform and access large regions of the Hilbert space, including states that have no overlap with the initial state. Furthermore, we make use of this algorithm to efficiently prepare specific eigenstates on the simulator according to the measured eigenenergies.

High-fidelity adiabatic quantum computation using the intrinsic Hamiltonian of a spin system: Application to the experimental factorization of 291311

In previous implementations of adiabatic quantum algorithms using spin systems, the average Hamiltonian method with Trotter's formula was conventionally adopted to generate an effective instantaneous Hamiltonian that simulates an adiabatic passage. However, this approach had issues with the precision of the effective Hamiltonian and with the adiabaticity of the evolution. In order to address these, we here propose and experimentally demonstrate a novel scheme for adiabatic quantum computation by using the intrinsic Hamiltonian of a realistic spin system to represent the problem Hamiltonian while adiabatically driving the system by an extrinsic Hamiltonian directly induced by electromagnetic pulses. In comparison to the conventional method, we observed two advantages of our approach: improved ease of implementation and higher fidelity. As a showcase example of our approach, we experimentally factor 291311, which is larger than any other quantum factorization known.

Universal Quantum Control in Zero-field Nuclear Magnetic Resonance

This paper describes a general method for manipulation of nuclear spins in zero magnetic field. In the absence of magnetic fields, the spins lose the individual information on chemical shifts and inequivalent spins can only be distinguished by nuclear gyromagnetic ratios and spin-spin couplings. For spin-1/2 nuclei with different gyromagnetic ratios (i.e., different species) in zero magnetic field, we describe the scheme to realize a set of universal quantum logic gates, e.g., arbitrary single-qubit gates and two-qubit controlled-NOT gate. This method allows for universal quantum control in systems which might provide promising applications in materials science, chemistry, biology, quantum information processing and fundamental physics.
