On the second-order zero differential properties of several classes of power functions over finite fields

Feistel Boomerang Connectivity Table (FBCT) is an important cryptanalytic technique on analysing the resistance of the Feistel network-based ciphers to power attacks such as differential and boomerang attacks. Moreover, the coefficients of FBCT are closely related to the second-order zero differential spectra of the function $F(x)$ over the finite fields with even characteristic and the Feistel boomerang uniformity is the second-order zero differential uniformity of $F(x)$. In this paper, by computing the number of solutions of specific equations over finite fields, we determine explicitly the second-order zero differential spectra of power functions $x^{2^m+3}$ and $x^{2^m+5}$ with $m>2$ being a positive integer over finite field with even characteristic, and $x^{p^k+1}$ with integer $k\geq1$ over finite field with odd characteristic $p$. It is worth noting that $x^{2^m+3}$ is a permutation over $\mathbb{F}_{2^n}$ and only when $m$ is odd, $x^{2^m+5}$ is a permutation over $\mathbb{F}_{2^n}$, where integer $n=2m$. As a byproduct, we find $F(x)=x^4$ is a PN and second-order zero differentially $0$-uniform function over $\mathbb{F}_{3^n}$ with odd $n$. The computation of these entries and the cardinalities in each table aimed to facilitate the analysis of differential and boomerang cryptanalysis of S-boxes when studying distinguishers and trails.

The c-differential properties of a class of power functions

Power functions with low $c$-differential uniformity have been widely studied not only because of their strong resistance to multiplicative differential attacks, but also low implementation cost in hardware. Furthermore, the $c$-differential spectrum of a function gives a more precise characterization of its $c$-differential properties. Let $f(x)=x^{\frac{p^n+3}{2}}$ be a power function over the finite field $\mathbb{F}_{p^{n}}$, where $p\neq3$ is an odd prime and $n$ is a positive integer. In this paper, for all primes $p\neq3$, by investigating certain character sums with regard to elliptic curves and computing the number of solutions of a system of equations over $\mathbb{F}_{p^{n}}$, we determine explicitly the $(-1)$-differential spectrum of $f$ with a unified approach. We show that if $p^n \equiv 3 \pmod 4$, then $f$ is a differentially $(-1,3)$-uniform function except for $p^n\in\{7,19,23\}$ where $f$ is an APcN function, and if $p^n \equiv 1 \pmod 4$, the $(-1)$-differential uniformity of $f$ is equal to $4$. In addition, an upper bound of the $c$-differential uniformity of $f$ is also given.

Infinite families of $2$-designs from a class of linear codes related to Dembowski-Ostrom functions

Due to their important applications to coding theory, cryptography, communications and statistics, combinatorial $t$-designs have been attracted lots of research interest for decades. The interplay between coding theory and $t$-designs has on going for many years. As we all known, $t$-designs can be used to derive linear codes over any finite field, as well as the supports of all codewords with a fixed weight in a code also may hold a $t$-design. In this paper, we first construct a class of linear codes from cyclic codes related to Dembowski-Ostrom functions. By using exponential sums, we then determine the weight distribution of the linear codes. Finally, we obtain infinite families of $2$-designs from the supports of all codewords with a fixed weight in these codes. Furthermore, the parameters of $2$-designs are calculated explicitly.

Infinite families of $2$-designs from a class of non-binary Kasami cyclic codes

Combinatorial $t$-designs have been an important research subject for many years, as they have wide applications in coding theory, cryptography, communications and statistics. The interplay between coding theory and $t$-designs has been attracted a lot of attention for both directions. It is well known that a linear code over any finite field can be derived from the incidence matrix of a $t$-design, meanwhile, that the supports of all codewords with a fixed weight in a code also may hold a $t$-design. In this paper, by determining the weight distribution of a class of linear codes derived from non-binary Kasami cyclic codes, we obtain infinite families of $2$-designs from the supports of all codewords with a fixed weight in these codes, and calculate their parameters explicitly.

Infinite families of $2$-designs from a class of cyclic codes with two non-zeros

Combinatorial $t$-designs have wide applications in coding theory, cryptography, communications and statistics. It is well known that the supports of all codewords with a fixed weight in a code may give a $t$-design. In this paper, we first determine the weight distribution of a class of linear codes derived from the dual of extended cyclic code with two non-zeros. We then obtain infinite families of $2$-designs and explicitly compute their parameters from the supports of all the codewords with a fixed weight in the codes. By simple counting argument, we obtain exponentially many $2$-designs.

Infinite families of $2$-designs from two classes of binary cyclic codes with three nonzeros

Combinatorial $t$-designs have been an interesting topic in combinatorics for decades. It is a basic fact that the codewords of a fixed weight in a code may hold a $t$-design. Till now only a small amount of work on constructing $t$-designs from codes has been done. In this paper, we determine the weight distributions of two classes of cyclic codes: one related to the triple-error correcting binary BCH codes, and the other related to the cyclic codes with parameters satisfying the generalized Kasami case, respectively. We then obtain infinite families of $2$-designs from these codes by proving that they are both affine-invariant codes, and explicitly determine their parameters. In particular, the codes derived from the dual of binary BCH codes hold five $3$-designs when $m=4$.

Linear complexity of quaternary sequences over Z4 based on Ding-Helleseth generalized cyclotomic classes

A family of quaternary sequences over Z4 is defined based on the Ding-Helleseth generalized cyclotomic classes modulo pq for two distinct odd primes p and q. The linear complexity is determined by computing the defining polynomial of the sequences, which is in fact connected with the discrete Fourier transform of the sequences. The results show that the sequences possess large linear complexity and are good sequences from the viewpoint of cryptography.

Linear code derived from the primage of quadratic function

Linear codes have been an interesting topic in both theory and practice for many years. In this paper, for an odd prime power $q$, we construct some class of linear code over finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$ with defining set be the preimage of general quadratic form function and determine the explicit complete weight enumerators of the linear codes. Our construction cover all the corresponding result with quadratic form function and they may have applications in cryptography and secret sharing schemes.

Linear complexity problems of level sequences of Euler quotients and their related binary sequences

The Euler quotient modulo an odd-prime power $p^r~(r>1)$ can be uniquely decomposed as a $p$-adic number of the form $$ \frac{u^{(p-1)p^{r-1}} -1}{p^r}\equiv a_0(u)+a_1(u)p+\ldots+a_{r-1}(u)p^{r-1} \pmod {p^r},~ \gcd(u,p)=1, $$ where $0\le a_j(u) 1$. We firstly study certain arithmetic properties of the level sequences $(a_j(u))_{u\ge 0}$ over $\mathbb{F}_p$ via introducing a new quotient. Then we determine the exact values of linear complexity of $(a_j(u))_{u\ge 0}$ and values of $k$-error linear complexity for binary sequences defined by $(a_j(u))_{u\ge 0}$.
